Last time we had a writers strike, Pushing Daises got the axe. While thinking about this, I realized the ACOTAR show might suffer a similar fate.
..
..
If I speak.
#LOOK I’m NOT a hater#I’m just saying I used to work in Hollywood#I worked in an acting theater for the a listers#like I’ve met Margot Robbie and Ariana (we helped her prepare for elphaba)#and Mandy moore etc etc#so I’ve seen scripts (I saw the shadow and bone scripts and the new game of thrones scripts before they even aired)#seeing the behind the scenes process made me really disillusioned with the process of things#on top of that it really bums me out when things like this become mainstream and suddenly you’re a loser for liking it#but I really love ACOTAR in an unironic way and just want to protect it lol

quite possibly the worst casting of all time. this makes me so angry.
why is every adaptation of WH bent on deeply misunderstanding the BOOK IT IS ADAPTING???
first of all, heathcliff NOT being white is fundamental to the story and his character, casting a white man to play him changes everything? him and cathy are supposed to be different. the difference between her priviledge and status and his status is supposed to be apparent and obvious and it is reflected in the way they look, right?
also this is the last movie you should cast pretty people in. margot robbie is a literal barbie doll, cathy needs to be WILD and a little evil and Mean. heathcliff needs to be deranged, not look like a popular jock. and these actors are both too old to play these characters
this casting is just so so deeply wrong for this book and i just wish hollywood understood that gothic literature adaptations and period dramas in general mean not casting people who look like they know what an iphone is. this especially would have been the perfect movie to cast messy and ugly and unknown actors in and the least suited for australian hollywood a-listers who have picture perfect faces and NO unhingeness or ugliness or messiness whatsoever
#i was sure i was going to be disappointed by this adaptation when i saw who was directing it#but i did not think they would ever pick actors THIS unsuited to play the lead roles#i think we all need to resign ourselves to the fact that wuthering heights will never get a proper adaptation 💔#wuthering heights

I'm still surprised that WME can't still get Meghan invites to prestigious events. Last weekend there were Balenciaga show in LA and the Academy Gala; all sorts of stars were there. The Color Purple (which Oprah produced) had a premiere a couple of weeks ago!! She only went to Variety event, and it was probably because she couldn't attend last year; even there she couldn't pics with the A-Lister (Margot Robie! Greta Gerwig! were there). She also didn't go to any of the fashion week. Why do you think that is? You mentioned that Baby2Baby gala, which apparently people have to pay? They couldn't afford that or wrangle a freebie invite?
When she attended the Variety event it was confirmed that she was not on the official guest list. She attended as her agents +1.
My best guess is that she isn't invited to events because if Hollywood and the society sets know 1 thing about her it's that she isn't discrete.
She can't be trusted in areas where people are extremely protective of their privacy.

I’ll use my parents as a yardstick. They are true boomers and immigrants and out of the six avengers, they only know RDJ by name.
Neither of my parents particularly like RDJ because they basically know him as guy who was in jail once (sorry Robert) and Ironman. But they do know him.
They know Chris E and Scarlett J by face but not so much by name. I think cap and black widow are more familiar to them and they are not American so they remember the character names and not the actor names.
I would say off the top of my head: true a listers are Brad, Leo, Tom, Angelina, Will Smith, Harrison Ford, George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Meryl, Julia.
Because even without their last names being mentioned, I’m sure 98% of you know who I’m referring to. And so will Gen X, Boomers, and maybe even our grandparents generation.
I’m sorry, this will upset many of you, but Margot and Pedro are not true A list either. Despite the big year they have had, and Ryan Gosling, it’s going to be a few more years before I would have that convo. Emma stone too. For the younger generation yes, but I would argue some people know Scarlett and Chris E more than they do Emma stone or Pedro. Winning awards does not make you A list either. You are respected, yes, but how many Emmy and Oscar winners and nominees are actually unknown by many of the GP? It’s a complicated conversation.
I think people have a false perception of who’s hot right now and trending means they’re A list. But a true A lister doesn’t always have to trend and doesn’t even always have to have an actively hot career. They could more or less go into retirement and or just making alcohol (hi George Clooney) but still be on the tips of people’s tongues.
I do think Chris was getting to the point of pretty A list in 2019. That was a huge year for him and I think he defied a lot of expectations and when I realized my parents knew his face and who he was that was a big step. But he’s not a true A list, nope.
BUT it does not mean he is C list.
I have to agree with all that you said. I’m not sure who is the latest crop of A listers. I think Jennifer Lawrence was on her way. But I don’t see any of them having the “power” that the celebrities of the early 2000s had.
In my job I have so many different age groups, and some will know Marvel, but not the actor. Some won’t know either. I think currently our media is oversaturated. We have a younger generation who influencers are their celebrities.

SAG-AFTRA is a union of 160,000 members, so please don’t focus on the ‘A-lister money grabbing’ dialogue that will be spun by the studios. they are joining the WGA union of 11,000 to make sure that all people in the unions receive fair pay. it’s not Scarlett Johansson and Margot Robbie wanting more money, it’s the actor who’s had three lines in this movie and two lines in his previous and no speaking lines in his first two movies. it’s saving background actors from being reconstructed in other films utilising AI (and thus being intellectual property of the studio, not the original actor) to save the cost of extras.

Here’s an article that mentions Reese and how her having a production company could be a factor
https://twitter.com/vanityfair/status/1684008154688888833?s=46&t=f2glyhD4qVrBP_i4abNJ9A
Thank you!
This last paragraph where they mention Reese, JLaw, and Margot is a little strange—
Other A-list talent may not want to be seen on the picket lines because they’re also running production companies—à la Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, Jennifer Lawrence’s Excellent Cadaver, or Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap, which just produced mega-hit Barbie. “The real place the A-listers can help is donating to relief funds and lobbying the studio heads behind the scenes,” one agent told Variety. Looks like Johnson already got the memo.
It pivots from discussing these three people’s conflict of interest to an implication that they’re doing the most behind-the-scenes. Um we don’t know that, the notion that A-listers should hide out is wrong-headed anyway, and it’s possible that some of these people identify more as owners of the means of production?

'“Barbenheimer” is officially here, and the battle between the bomb and the bombshell is about to ignite the box office.
Greta Gerwig’s cotton candy-colored “Barbie,” starring Margot Robbie as the plastic, fantastic doll, is expected to generate a huge $95 million to $110 million from 4,200 North American theaters over the weekend. Given the omnipresence of “Barbie” (the marketing is practically inescapable, with enough memes and marketing tie-ins to last a lifetime), initial estimates are all over the place. Warner Bros. is projecting a more conservative $75 million to start, while rivals and exhibitors believe the PG-13 movie could make as much as $140 million between Friday and Sunday.
In any case, “Barbie” will claim the top spot over Christopher Nolan’s atomic bomb drama “Oppenheimer,” which is aiming to collect a solid $50 million from 3,600 cinemas through Sunday. Universal is backing the R-rated historical biopic, which cost $100 million.
“Oppenheimer” runs at three hours (“Barbie” clocks in at just under two), which may limit the screenings per day. However, Nolan’s epic will benefit from premium large format screens like Imax, which is dedicating its entire footprint to his film for three weeks.
Together, the seemingly different blockbusters with twin release dates are fueling the phenomenon known as “Barbenheimer.” AMC Theatres, the nation’s biggest cinema chain, reported that 40,000 people have already purchased tickets for double features of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” on the same day — up 20,000 from last week.
The $145 million-budgeted “Barbie” stars too many A-listers to name, but we’ll give it a shot: Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, Dua Lipa, Simu Liu, Helen Mirren, John Cena and Will Ferrell round out the cast of the fantasy comedy, which follows Barbie and Ken as they leave the comfort and familiarity of Barbie-Land on a quest for self-discovery in the real world.
“Oppenheimer,” adapted by Nolan from the Pulitzer Prize-winning book “American Prometheus,” is an equally star-studded character study about theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer. Cillian Murphy plays the man who led the development of the atomic bomb, alongside an ensemble of Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh and Alden Ehrenreich.
The potent combination of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” as well as last weekend’s champion “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” is expected to fuel one of the biggest box office weekends in ages. Summer season has otherwise produced a string of underperforming options, like “The Flash,” “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” and “Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken.”
Tom Cruise’s newest “Mission” looks to add $28 million to $30 million in its second weekend of release, a decline of roughly 50% from its debut. The seventh installment in Paramount and Skydance’s globe-trotting action franchise opened to $56 million in North America and $234 million globally. It cost $291 million before marketing, so Ethan Hunt’s latest death-defying adventure needs to remain a draw throughout the summer to justify that price tag.
Elsewhere, the unlikely box office hit “Sound of Freedom” is imminently crossing the $100 million mark, which will put the film among the top 16 highest grossing of the year. The low-budget, faith-based movie about child sex trafficking has generated a remarkable $85.7 million to date. That’s thanks mostly to the religious and conservative media groups that have rallied behind the film.
Paul Dergarabedian, a senior Comscore analyst, calls “Barbenheimer” a “movie marketers dream come true.” He adds that the craze is “creating a rising tide of interest that should also boost the fortunes of ‘MI7’ and ‘Sound of Freedom’ as moviegoers flood the multiplex in search of movies to catch on the big screen.”'

Australian F1 star Daniel Ricciardo gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at preparations for Met Gala
Daniel Ricciardo gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at his preparations for the Met Gala - where he caused a stir when he met Anne Hathaway Ricciardo does behind-the-scenes Met Gala video F1 superstar says he was out of his comfort zone Aussie made sure custom suit had space for hip flask By James Cooney For Daily Mail Australia Published: 06:16 BST, 4 May 2023 | Updated: 06:16 BST, 4 May 2023 Aussie F1 star Daniel Ricciardo made a surprise appearance at the Met Gala red carpet on Tuesday - and now he's giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at his preparations for the iconic event. The 33-year-old reserve driver for Red Bull rubbed shoulders with celebrities on fashion's most famous red carpet, which was celebrating iconic designer Karl Lagerfeld. Ricciardo sent social media wild with his unexpected appearance at the glamourous event, arriving alone in a stylish Thom Browne three-piece tuxedo and flashing his signature grin. Iconic fashion magazine Vogue put together a video of the eight-time race winner suiting up, where he revealed he was surprisingly nervous about attending. 'You know that expression, "It ain't my first rodeo?" Ricciardo asks in the clip. Vogue magazine put together a video of the eight-time race winner getting ready for the iconic event, where he revealed he was surprisingly nervous about attending 'It actually is my first rodeo.' 'It's funny, because I feel I should get more nervous before a race,' he said. '[But] this certainly feels like I'm stepping out of my comfort zone.' Thom Browne’s Jonathon Zadrzynski was on hand to help Ricciardo get dressed, and told the Aussie that Browne himself was looking forward to him stepping out in his look. 'He (Thom Browne) is really excited about the classic but comfortable look you bring to your style,' Zadrzynski told Ricciardo. Ricciardo explains in the clip that it was important for the suit to have a pocket for him to carry a hip flask. 'When we were going through the jacket, I was like "does it have a place for my hip flask?'" he smiled. The Aussie was then off to the event, navigating fans and photographers skillfully. Afterwards while on the red carpet eagle-eyed fans spotted Ricciardo taking a quick glance at Hollywood A-lister Anne Hathaway as he awaited his picture. Ricciardo joked that a requirement of his custom suit was that it had room for his hip flask Ricciardo stepped out in a custom Thom Browne three-piece tuxedo at the Met Gala The F1 star's appearance at Met Gala surprised many because he'd previously said the event was too formal for him Yet Hathaway was also starstruck as the pair shared a brief exchange before parting ways. 'It's nice to meet you,' she said to Ricciardo. 'Wow, I'm a huge F1 fan.' Ricciardo's appearance at Met Gala came as a shock to many after he said the event was too 'formal' for him in a podcast after fellow driver Lewis Hamilton was invited to the exclusive bash in 2021. 'After seeing some of the images, not really. Look, I mean, the way some of the fashion is now, I think you probably could get away with that,' he said. 'Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it would be an experience, but I don't know. It seems a little formal for me.' The Aussie joined fellow Down Under stars Nicole Kidman, Baz Luhrmann, Hugh Jackman and Margot Robbie. Cinemacon: The Next Generation
I have to say, PR or no PR stunt, I care not:
Glen and Sydney owned Sony Night. They made Margot and Ryan look bland and dare I say a wee bit old for the roles they’re playing, and I literally have not seen anyone talking about JLaw’s movie.
I suspect there are quite a few Hollywood A-Listers truly thinking “Anyone But You” and not with a smile on their faces.

Anyone who’s interested in fashion knows the job of a celebrity stylist is filled with nonstop action. Yes, it is a hard, grueling, and often thankless vocation (in fact, let’s take a moment for those frequently unsung heroes), but it also seems like a dream, in some ways, to style an A-lister. We are not stylists, so we can romanticize it: pulling elegant couture gowns or more whimsical ready-to-wear designs and placing them on your client like you’re dressing up a real-life Barbie doll (Andrew Mukamal, Margot Robbie’s current stylist, is all too familiar with this). So, we thought, why don’t we give it a try: step into the role of stylist in our own way, and pull the pieces we would love to see our favorite stars wear to the 2025 Golden Globes? It’s Fantasy Football, but make it fashion. Below, W editors picked a few of the pieces from the ready-to-wear and couture shows this past year, which they hope to see on some of the Globes’ nominees. Perhaps our choices will even inspire an actual stylist out there. Tilda SwintonThere’s no fashion rule-breaker quite like Tilda Swinton (maybe Rihanna, but in a completely different way. Those two should link up and talk clothes, now that I think about it…). And if anyone could pull off Maison Schiaparelli’s velvet, jet-black, sculptural dress that obscures half the face, it is the British actress herself. But truthfully, I love when Swinton wears something that shimmers—the way the sparkles interact with her porcelain skin and fiery red hair is exciting. This silver Fendi Haute Couture gown (with the bag to match) would shine in all the right ways at the Golden Globes, where Swinton could win Best Actress for her role in The Room Next Door. If Ms. Swinton is feeling more of a noir vibe on the night of the awards, I hope she considers this other Schiaparelli option from the same haute couture show: a sequined, fringed dress with pockets. —Maxine Wally, Senior Digital EditorA look from the Schiaparelli spring/summer 2024 haute couture collection.Photo by Estrop/Getty ImagesA look from the Fendi spring/summer 2024 haute couture collection. Peter White/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty ImagesA look from the Schiaparelli spring/summer 2024 haute couture collection.Photo by Estrop/Getty ImagesCate BlanchettA queen deserves a cape—and Cate Blanchett's should be fabricated from a waterfall of rosebuds. When I saw this confection of a look on Valentino’s Haute Couture spring 2024 runway, there was only one star who popped into my mind: Cate Thee Great, who this year is nominated for Best Actress in a Limited Series for Disclaimer. Even the mint slacks would be the perfect bit of tailoring for Blanchett, who is known to rock a cut crease on the red carpet. Another option skewing in the complete opposite direction: this black gown with a feather accent on the hip from Duran Lantink’s spring 2025 collection. I love the styling on Naomi Campbell, who first modeled the dress: a statement silver necklace and earrings. Hey, if Cate Blanchett can wear a shirt of spoons, she definitely wouldn't balk at such striking jewelry. —M.W.A look from the Valentino spring 2024 couture collection. Photo by Estrop/Getty ImagesMikey MadisonThis year’s Golden Globes might be an important one for first-time nominee Mikey Madison, who is up for the Best Actress trophy. And a big night calls for a big look. Madison, a Los Angeles native who broke onto the acting scene with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and 2024’s Anora (for which she’s been nominated), seems to favor feminine silhouettes that highlight her shoulders, chest, and legs. That’s why I’ve chosen the black Armani Privé gown here, with beaded straps and a slit. Another option from Privé is a shade I’ve seen Madison wear a few times on carpets: this sort of pearlescent column with a major bejeweled neckpiece. The colored stones on the top of the dress would complement the actress’s skin tone nicely. But personally, I think she should wear this nude Schiaparelli Haute Couture voile dress. The black scarf just screams drama!—M.W.A look from the Giorgio Armani fall/winter 2024/2025 haute couture collection. Her Golden Globe nomination is no surprise (though it should debatably be for best actress, not supporting), and it likely won’t be her only nod this awards season. Thus far, Saldaña has used the film’s press tour to show off her sartorial range, moving seamlessly from a sultry Saint Laurent look at Cannes to a chic, sculptural Prada at the London Film Festival. Still, the looks have almost exclusively found themselves in a neutral color range—which is a shame, because Saldaña really can pull off even the most shocking hue. That’s why I, personally, would love to see the actress in something bold at the Globes, specifically Standing Ground. Saldaña moves between designers fairly seamlessly, but she doesn’t often wear looks from emerging talent. The LVMH Savoir-Faire Prize winner creates beautiful jersey dresses that turn the wearer into a statuesque being. Just imagine Saldaña in this long-sleeve marigold number or strapless bubblegum-pink piece. Michael Stewart’s designs have appeared on a handful of red carpets over the years (most recently on Tilda Swinton at the Governors Awards), but it’s time for him to get his Globes moment, and who better to provide it than Saldaña? —Carolyn Twersky, Staff WriterA look from the Standing Ground spring 2025 collection. She has found the perfect balance between beautiful and interesting, always showing off an unequivocally gorgeous look with a touch of whimsy or an unexpected detail. Usually, Edebiri sticks to brands like Loewe and Bottega Veneta, but she is not afraid to venture into the unknown and has worn a range of designers throughout the years. For the Golden Globes, though, I suggest she looks toward the Italian brand Del Core, which just put on a very successful runway show for the spring/summer 2025 season back in September. In particular, I think one of these two looks from Daniel Del Core’s most recent collection would not only look great on Edebiri, but also fit into the actress’s larger style portfolio, which she has expertly fostered with her stylist, Danielle Goldberg. The blue lace dress feels very much in Edebiri’s wheelhouse, and the structured shoulder provides that touch of quirk we’ve come to associate with the actress. But, if I had to choose, I would put her in the white, sleeveless dress that looks to be made of laser-cut leather, paired with almost surgical azure gloves. The perfect mix of artistry and humor—so very Edebiri. —C.T. A look from the Del Core spring/summer 2025 collection. Courtesy of Del CoreA look from the Del Core spring/summer 2025 collection. Courtesy of Del CorePamela AndersonI was delighted to see that Pamela Anderson earned a nomination for her turn in The Last Showgirl. As to what the bombshell should pull for the red carpet? Well, since she’s worn plenty of Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia’s Oscar de la Renta recently, I’d wager that she’ll be outfitted in something custom from the duo. Or perhaps, Anderson will go for a look similar to this minimal butter-yellow design from New York-favorite Tôteme. There’s also Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen’s recent spring 2025 collection for The Row (full of layered office dresses Anderson could easily jazz up) or any of Matthieu Blazy’s work from his time at Bottega Veneta to choose from. —Matthew Velasco, Staff Writer, NewsA look from the Toteme summer 2025 collection. Victor VIRGILE/Gamma-Rapho via Getty ImagesColman DomingoWith an Oscar-worthy performance in his new film Sing Sing, Colman Domingo is coming (again) to reclaim his throne as the best-dressed man this awards season. The actor loves himself a theatrical suit, and Thom Browne’s fall 2024 couture show was full of them—like this layered number that’s brimming with all types of fabrics and proportions. Domingo was also one of the first to wear Alessandro Michele’s Valentino, and the designer’s recent ’70s-inspired spring collection would function nicely at the Globes. However, considering the actor slipped into Willy Chavarria at the 2024 Met Gala, wouldn’t it be great if he popped up again in something from the independent designer? —M.V.A look from the Thom Browne fall/winter 2024/2025 haute couture collection.Kristy Sparow/Getty ImagesA look from the Valentino spring/summer 2025 collection.
