So Shelley Duvall's style and acting style had a lot of influence on how I envisioned Chris. Like I always liked that she could communicate with her eyes so that's why Chris has big expressive almost puppy dog eyes. Not even just her perfomance in the Shining (I'd still slap the shit out of Kubrick for the way he treated the actors) but also Susan Frankenstein in Frankenweenie.

the sheer poetry in tom ripley telling peter smith-kingsley that he keeps all the bad things he's done inside a metaphorical basement, locks it up tight, but sometimes he meets people that he wants to hand the key to so badly. tom giving peter the key to his apartment so he could leave and come back without having to knock, the act itself so insignificant and mostly related to the scene at hand but there's something so tender about the way they said "my key", "your key", gazing at each other as if saying what words cannot, and it seems as if tom is going to open up to peter. tom evidently growing more and more comfortable with peter the more time they spend with each other. tom glowing every time he sees peter, wanting so badly to give him the key to the basement. peter starting to question things about tom who's had to kill two people already to keep living this wonderful life. tom dodging his questions by once again talking about the basement and the bad things he's done and tom not wanting to kill peter but realizing if he doesn't he'll most likely be turned in to the police and lose the trust of the one person he could've bared his sins to. tom asking peter to tell him of all his good traits and peter softly doing so—"tom is talented", "tom is beautiful". tom resting on peter's back, listening to him continue listing all this good—"tom is not a nobody", "tom has someone to love him"—tom hearing peter indirectly tell him he loves him and tom killing him still. tom, for the first time in the past few months, being visibly torn by what he did. and god the poetry in the movie ending with the camera, at first moving around the space, now stopping at the front corner, the dark encapsulating the room, shaped like a door closing, peter gone, and the basement sealed permanently with all the bad, the secrets, the skeletons, and tom inside it.

Quiet evening relaxing in the bath

SFW (kind of???), I also tried gender neutral pronouns for the first time, but bc english isn't my first language, I hope it's not too bad. Would also love opinions on this, I've got a lot of ideas in terms of fanfictions for M. Ripley that I don't know if it's worth posting.

Tom Ripley and Y/N had been staying in Dickie’s house in Italy, a temporary home in the beautiful town of Mongibello. The villa, with its expansive views of the Mediterranean sea, offered a rare moment of tranquility for the couple. It was the evening, and the golden light of the setting sun filtered through the large windows, casting a warm glow over the spacious bathroom. The tub, an elegant antique piece, was already filled with steaming water, a hint of lavender in the air from the bath salts Y/N had added.

Tom stood by the tub, his white shirt unbuttoned, revealing the lean, toned muscles beneath. He watched Y/N as they undressed, their movements graceful and deliberate. There was a quiet intimacy in the air, a shared understanding that this moment was for them, a rare indulgence in their rowdy lives.

Y/N stepped into the bath first, the hot water enveloping them. They let out a sigh of relief as they encouraged Tom to come in. He followed, easing himself in, the heat soothing his body. They sat facing each other, the water lapping gently at their skin, the silence between them filled with unspoken words.

Tom’s eyes met Y/N’s, his gaze intense yet filled with an underlying vulnerability. In the soft light, his usual mask of composure seemed to falter slightly. He reached out, his fingers brushing lightly against their arm.

“Are you comfortable?” he asked, his voice a low murmur.

Y/N nodded, a soft smile playing on their lips. “Yes, very much. It’s nice just to be here with you.”

Tom agreed before his hand moved to their shoulder, his touch gentle yet firm. He began to massage them gently, his movements slow and tender. Y/N closed their eyes, a soft moan escaping their lips as they relaxed under his touch.

“You carry so much tension,” Tom remarked, his voice soft, almost reflective. “You should let yourself unwind more often.”

“That’s funny coming from you...” Y/N countered, their eyes opening to meet his. “When do you ever let yourself relax?”

Tom chuckled softly, amused, but with a hint of sadness in his eyes. “I suppose I don’t really do. But moments like this… they help.”

As time passed, the intimacy between them grew. Tom’s hands moved lower on Y/N's back, caressing them gently, his touch affectionate. He then leaned in closer and pressed kissed on their back.

“Tom” they whispered, surprised by the gesture, but appreciating it. “Thank you for being here with me and for being so tender, it's adorable.” They rested the back of their head against Tom's chest.

His heart ached at their words, a rare feeling of genuine emotion breaking through his usual reserve. “There’s nowhere else I’d rather be,” he replied, his voice sincere yet barely audible.

Y/N turned to meet his lips met in a soft, lingering kiss. As the warmth of the water and the scent of lavender surrounded them, the kiss deepened, a slow exploration that spoke of trust and affection.

Tom’s hands moved to their waist, pulling them closer, their bodies pressed together in the steamy water. For him, this was more than just physical intimacy. It was a moment of vulnerability, a rare instance where he allowed himself to feel something genuine. He cherished the softness of Y/N’s skin, their lips, the way their body fit perfectly against his, and the quiet sighs that escaped their mouth.

The water began to cool as they broke the kiss, their foreheads now resting against each other. Tom’s eyes held a mixture of longing and fear, the ever-present worry that this moment of happiness could be shattered by the mask he always carried.

“Let’s do this more often” Y/N suggested, their voice a soothing balm to his troubled thoughts as they got out of the tub.

Husky among oilsands companies seeking funding from Aberta to build partial upgraders

CALGARY — The Alberta government has been negotiating with major oilsands players Suncor Energy Inc., Husky Energy Inc. and MEG Energy Corp. since late 2018 in a bid to expediently find and fund heavy oil upgrading technology that could help alleviate pressure on existing pipelines, according to documents seen by the Financial Post.

Alberta Energy Minister Marg McCuaig-Boyd authorized the province’s energy department and Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission in November to negotiate with six companies “as soon as possible” to financially support partial upgrading projects that would lighten the province’s heaviest oil grades, according to the documents.

“We’ve always had short, medium and long-term plans to deal with the oil price differential and our need to have more takeaway capacity,” said Mike McKinnon, spokesperson for McCuaig-Boyd, noting that partial upgrading investments were part of a longer-term strategy.

“We have shortlisted six projects and it would be up to companies if they want to disclose,” McKinnon said, declining to comment on specific proposals by companies on the list.

The government has been criticized by the opposition United Conservative Party for announcing major financial commitments for partial upgraders and petrochemical projects ahead of a provincial election. “Why, just before the election, are they signing all of these contracts?” UCP energy critic Prasad Panda said in an interview.

McKinnon said the partial upgrading program has been in the works for a long time, and the government is not rushing through the process despite the documents referencing the need for expedience.

“As with all company negotiations, it takes time to conduct the necessary due diligence,” he said in an email. “We are committed to making sure all negotiations are conducted in a professional way that defends the interests of Albertans at all times.”

In February 2018, the province announced it would provide up to $1 billion in funding, comprised of $200 million in grants and $800 million in loan guarantees, last February to encourage new partial upgrading projects in the province.

The first tranche of that funding was announced in Jan. 2019 when the government signed a letter of intent with privately held Value Creation Inc. to provide a $440 million loan guarantee for a $2-billion facility to partially upgrade 77,500 barrels of diluted bitumen per day.

Calgary-based Value Creation was one of the companies on the short list seen by the Post. The others are Suncor, Husky, MEG, Fractal Systems Inc. and Greenfire Oil and Gas Ltd. The province has yet to announce agreements with any of those companies, but the Post has learned negotiations are ongoing.

“We have been in discussions with the government about possible funding for the project but at this stage we’re unable to provide further details,” Husky spokesperson Mel Duvall said in an email.

The company is currently running a 500-bpd pilot of its “hydrogen-donor diluent reduction” technology at its Sunrise oilsands project along with joint-venture partner BP Plc.

Duvall said the company was “exploring the potential of taking the next step.”

The province is keen to encourage companies with commercial-ready technology to get around the issue of new export pipelines that’s leaving a glut of oil in storage.

Partial upgrading is considered a key technology to ensure the continued growth of the oilsands as it dilutes the viscosity of bitumen — which has the consistency of peanut butter — to the point where it could flow through a pipeline without the need for blending agents.

“There’s a lot of space being occupied by diluent,” Canadian Energy Research Institute vice-president, research Dinara Millington said, adding that partial upgrading is “the lowest hanging fruit” in solving the pipeline crisis in the province given delays to current pipeline proposals.

Curently, oil companies in Alberta blend their bitumen with 30 per cent diluent to make diluted bitumen, more commonly called dilbit. In addition to the cost of buying the blending agents, companies are frustrated that those same blending agents clog up precious space on limited export pipelines.

“Partial upgrading as the potential to generate higher value bitumen products and reduce or eliminate diluent requirements for transportation,” Suncor spokesperson Paul Newmarch said in an email.

He said the company is “evaluating a range of partial upgrading technologies” but did not confirm if the company is currently in negotiations with the Alberta government for funding.

The government documents indicate that three of the shortlisted technologies — by Husky, Value Creation and Fractal Systems — are “commercial ready,” while the technologies proposed by Suncor, MEG and privately-held Greenfire require more testing.

Fractal chief commercial officer Richard Masson declined to discuss negotiations with the province citing confidentiality agreements but said his company’s process has been pilot-tested at a Cenovus Energy Inc.’s oilsands project.

“The demo met all operational and safety milestones and consistently demonstrated viscosity and density improvements that may allow the avoidance of more than 40 per cent of the diluent normally required to transport bitumen,” Cenovus executive vice-president and chief technology officer Harbir Chhina said of the technology in a release.

On Monday, Fractal announced it had signed a non-binding agreement with Cenovus to process that company’s diluted bitumen at a proposed commercial scale facility, which would process 50,000 bpd of bitumen at a cost of $500 million.

Masson said Fractal is in negotiations with other oilsands players and interest in the technology has increased amid recent delays to proposed export pipelines, including Enbridge Inc.’s Line 3 project, TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone XL project and the federally-owned Trans Mountain expansion.

“The way we look at it is, this is something we can do that’s in our control,” Masson said, adding that a commercial scale facility could be up in running in four years.

MEG did not respond to requests for comment. Calls to Greenfire were not returned and emails to the company bounced.

“You’re going to see more interest (in investing in partial upgrading),” said Kevin Birn, vice-president, North American crude oil markets at IHS Markit.

Le groupe Mixicom, qui assure la régie publicitaire des trois youtubers a été racheté pour 75 millions d'euros. Et, au passage, les trois vedettes françaises du web ont touché, chacune, plusieurs millions d'euros.

"Ce boulot rapporte assez pour vivre correctement. Mais mon moteur reste la passion de la création, et non l'argent. Être youtuber, ce n’est pas ce qui rapporte le plus. Faire des vidéos pour devenir riche, ce n’est pas le bon plan", assurait Cyprien il y a un an et demi.

En réalité, être une star de YouTube peut rapporter très gros. On sait qu'au minimum, chaque youtuber perçoit 55% des recettes publicitaires engrangées par ses vidéos. Selon les calculs des Echos, Squeezie toucherait ainsi 480.000 euros par an, et Cyprien 360.000 euros. De son côté, Norman a indiqué gagner 100.000 euros par an.

Mais ces recettes ne sont que la partie émergée de l'iceberg. Car nos trois stars françaises de YouTube viennent de toucher le jackpot dans le cadre de la vente de Talent Web SAS. Squeezie, Cyprien et Norman étaient en effet actionnaires de cette société en charge de la régie publicitaire de leur chaîne Youtube.

Un jackpot en à peine huit mois

Or cette société, faisant partie du groupe Mixicom, a été rachetée en septembre par Webedia, filiale du groupe Fimalac, qui détient déjà Allociné, Jeuxvideo.com, Easy voyage, Puremedias...

Et Talent Web SAS a été racheté pour une fortune: 25 millions d'euros, dont une partie importante a fini dans les poches de nos trois youtubers. Précisément, Cyprien a touché 6,6 millions d'euros; Squeezie, 4 millions; et Norman 2,2 millions. 

D'autres youtubers maison ont touché des chèques plus modestes, comme Hugo Tout Seul (221.239 euros), Natoo (221.239 euros), et Jhon Rachid (110.619 euros).

Mais ce n'est pas tout. Si les résultats de Talent Web SAS sont bons, alors Webedia versera des chèques supplémentaires allant jusqu'à 21 millions d'euros! Cyprien pourra ainsi toucher jusqu'à 5,2 millions d'euros en plus; Squeezie 3,3 millions; et Norman 1,8 million. 

Optimisation fiscale

Ces sommes sont bien plus élevées que les montants investis par nos youtubers dans Talent Web SAS à la création de cette société seulement 8 mois plus tôt: 3.900 euros pour Cyprien, 3.000 euros pour Squeezie et 1.000 euros pour Norman.

Nos youtubers vont donc engranger d'importantes plus-values, qui vont être lourdement taxées: 15,5% de cotisations sociales (CSG et CRDS), plus un impôt sur le revenu allant jusqu'à 45%.

Toutefois, Cyprien, Norman et Natoo ont mis en place un montage fiscal leur permettant de payer bien moins d'impôts. Juste avant la vente de Talent Web SAS, ils ont transféré leurs actions dans une société leur appartenant: respectivement Web born, Mouton Company  et Natoo SASU.

Hervé Israël, avocat associé chez DLA Piper, explique: "Cyprien a réalisé une plus-value de 6,6 millions d'euros. Si Cyprien avait gardé ses actions à titre personnel, alors il aurait dû payer près de 4 millions d'euros d'impôts sur cette plus-value. En apportant ses actions à sa société Web born, Cyprien ne paiera pas cet impôt sur la plus-value, à condition que cette société réinvestisse dans les deux ans la moitié des 6,6 millions d'euros."

Cyprien a donc déjà commencé à réinvestir son pactole: 300.000 euros ont été injectés dans la société ADCI (ex-Narmol), qui appartient à sa compagne Aurélie et qui vend des t-shirts conçus par Cyprien.

Fonds de défiscalisation

Outre Talent Web SAS, le groupe Mixicom comprend deux autres sociétés: Lincom (une agence d'événementiel) et Mixicom SAS (qui édite des magazines pour la Fnac, Leclerc, Casino, But, Auchan... et possède les sites jeuxactu.com, filmsactu.com et musiquemag.com).  

Au total, selon les comptes de Webedia, le groupe Mixicom a été racheté pour la coquette somme de 75 millions d'euros. Une somme record qui n'avait pas été dévoilée lors de l'annonce du rachat en septembre 2015, et qui parait importante au regard des résultats modestes de ces sociétés (cf. c-dessous). Ainsi, Talent Web SAS a été racheté pour plus de 17 fois son excédent brut d'exploitation, un ratio record! De même, Mixicom SAS avait été valorisé seulement 8 millions d'euros en 2008.

Cette transaction a également assuré la fortune des trois fondateurs du groupe, Anne Duval, Thierry Boyer et Laurent Decisy. Mais aussi d'un fonds qui avait investi dans Mixicom SAS, Générations Entrepreneurs. Ce fonds, qui avait apporté seulement 2 millions d'euros en 2008, a multiplié sa mise par 2,2. 

La gestion de ce fonds, initialement assurée par Oddo Asset Management, a été confiée en 2011 à Idinvest. C'est un fonds de défiscalisation: il permet à des redevables de l'impôt sur la fortune (ISF) de soustraire de leur impôts tout investissement dans une PME (ISF PME). "Les souscripteurs ont bénéficié à l'origine d'une réduction d'ISF de 40% et d'une réduction de l'impôt sur le revenu de 5%", explique Idinvest.

Interrogés, Cyprien, Squeezie, Norman, Natoo, Jhon Rachid, Mixicom et Webedia n'ont pas répondu, tandis que Hugo Tout Seul se refusait à tout commentaire.
