Phil Lesh Cancels May 5 Bay Area Gig “Due to Unforeseen Circumstances;” Concerts for April and July Still On

Phil Lesh & Friends canceled their May 5 gig at the Frost Amphitheater in Palo Alto, Calif., citing “unforeseen circumstances.”

Refunds will be issued for the show that was to feature the former Grateful Dead bassist alongside his son, the guitarist Grahame Lesh; guitarist Marcus King; Little Feat drummer Tony Leone; multi-instrumentalist Jason Crosby; and the Trey Anastasio Band horn section.

“Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause,” Lesh’s camp said in a statement.

“We’re sad to miss you all in Palo Alto next month, but we will see you back in the Bay Area soon.”

Lesh’s April 22-23 shows at Skull & Roses Festival in California and his July 20 gig at Great South Bay Music Festival in New York are still listed on his website.

Desperately trying to think of what everyone’s favorite music genre is from the arcane universe.

Vi undoubtedly has a playlist titled divorced dad or girl in her 20s filled with classic rock. Puddle of Mudd, Shinedown and Creed blast through the gym as she practices her combos.

Cait gives Boygenius. Moody, mysterious and yet still soft in certain ways. For Vi. Girl In Red, Gigi Perez. She’s listening as she treks through the woods alone, a sodden path under her boots, she looses herself in target practice and the melodies.

Jayce in a button down, wrinkled and left open, boxer shorts and calf-high socks, slipping and sliding in the kitchen as he belts out Consider Me Gone by Reba McEntire. He listens to anything he can dance to, get lost in. Letting go, he sings off key, using the spatula for a fake microphone and only stopping long enough to flip Vik’s pancakes.

Viktor craves music that tells a story. From Hozier to Sleep Token, he feels each set of lyrics. To Viktor, each song he sends or plays aloud in the lab as he and Jayce work, it means something.

Ekko’s a mix of sorts. Something soulful and gritty, found in the depths of deep rooted ancient forest and swamps. Barefoot in mud that coats and clings, that fills the cracks of your soul. Music that feels like home and heritage. Yeah, Ekko’s listening to Hurricane by The Band Of Heathens. Some Otis Redding, Marcus King too.

Jinx is giving punk teen angst forever. In her feels or just jamming out while she tinkers, it’s definitely Hot Mulligan, Neck Deep or All Time Low blasting through her spray painted speakers.

After the fall of Lucifer and the first humans, before the creation of the replacement population (which similarly went to shit) more and more of Heaven began to grow tempted by the promise of living a unique life. A life they could choose for themselves, regardless if it was good or bad, a life where they didn't have to be a specific way.

Marcus was one such angel - he had a minor position, angelic organ player #573, that was what he was meant to do. Forever. But, Marcus wanted to play the drums, he wanted to be bright and loud. So, Marcus fell to hell, nearly rejoicing when he first felt horns poking out of his skull, knocking off his halo.

Life in hell wasn't particularly good, and he had his fair share of vices, but he played the fucking drums in one of the most popular bands in the fucking seven rings.

Which, led him here.

King Lucifer Morningstar sat across from Marcus, smiling widely, but it was static and he looked almost like a painting. It felt wrong, beautiful, but wrong. And, speaking of beauty, Queen Lilith sat beside him, prim and properly posed, a famous musician in her own right. On his other side, lounged Eve, who acted a bit like an enforcer in Hell. The strongest under Lucifer, she also looked the most demonic, changed from her human form. She didn't have horns, but Marcus had seen a video of many mouths opening across get body and eating a sinner whole.

He looked up to all of them.

"Marcus," Lucifer started, tone presuming friendship between the two, but they'd never spoken. "How are you doing? How's the band doing? The, ah, last gig was in Gluttony?"

"... It was wicked... sir." Marcus said slowly, trying to not upset the King, while reminiscing on the event. It'd been a packed studio, he'd seen so very many flashed tits, and Adam was phenomenal as always. There was no one like him, who had his range, his voice, and his skills across all musical instruments, while carrying an effortless lead man persona. He'd looked stunning too, he was getting more comfortable around people, showing more skin.

"Adam probably told you about it." Marcus added, feeling that was fairly safe. Adam lived with them in the castle, when he wasn't on tour. All the humans seemed fairly close, though admittedly, Adam was the least so.

"He told us something, alright..." Eve said, tapping her sharp fingers on the table, though one hand had noticeably much shorter blunt nails.

"You're fond of him, yes?" Lilith asked, tilting her head, and Marcus realized what must have happened. He'd gotten a bit high, and made a move on Adam, he'd kissed him, gotten a bit handsy, but Adam had just pushed him away effortlessly. He was significantly stronger than Marcus.

"I guess so, I mean... Who wouldn't?" Marcus asked. "He's amazing. I just thought he might want to have a little fun, is all. I know he's not with anyone else right now."

Lucifer's grin somehow got wider, until the split of his lips reached the full edges of his face, and it was hard for Marcus to see any angelic features left in him. "Is that so?"

"That is because of us, and our careful watch." Lilith said slowly, almost condescendingly. "Adam is ours, you see. He is our treasure, he was made for each of us. We will, of course, protect that covenant, whether he likes it or not."

Marcus began to feel a tingle on the back of his neck that he'd never really felt before. Hair standing on end.

"What the fuck are you talking about?" Marcus blurted out, all four eyes wide.

"Adam is a virgin," Lucifer said simply. "He is ours."

Marcus blinked, and suddenly realized he couldn't move, he was pinned to the chair, shadows with teeth and eyes were holding him in place.

"You won't be touching him again." Eve purred, leaning across the table, as the shadows spread around him.

"Don't worry, Adam won't know what happened to you." Marcus looked across the table to where Lucifer had been, and instead found himself looking back at him.

Adam grumbled, falling onto the couch in the castle. It wasn't like he was into Marcus like that, but he wanted to be, fuck he wanted to get laid, but it seemed like every single fucking time someone showed interest in him, they got cold feet and fucked off.

Fingers ran through his hair, and after a few thousand years, he knew they were Lily's. "Problems?" Lilith asked softly.

"My fucking bandmate told me he quits." Adam mumbled into a pillow. "After he acted like he wanted me. Why can't I just find someone who wants with me what you and Lucifer have?"

Adam didn't voice all of his feelings, why couldn't Lilith or Eve love him in that way. He'd been happy to stay with them after coming to Hell, with the idea of finding someone who would love him, not be just assigned to him like heaven had wanted - but, it still stung. Lucifer and Lilith had Charlie not long ago, and he loved taking care of the little ankle biter, but Adam wanted that for himself. He didn't want to complain to them about it though, seem like he didn't want to be here, or make then feel guilty. They'd been open with him on Earth about everything.

Adam didn't think they'd lie to him.

"Sweet man, don't worry." Lilith said in a soft melodic voice that dragged him down into slumber. "You'll be adored and loved, treasured and worshiped, held and never let go... not ever."

Adam closed his eyes, feeling her touch on his scalp, falling asleep to dreams of warm summer night skies.

Discovering Tunes Through Fic: A Rec List

A sequel of sorts to my Discovering Lit Through Fic list from earlier this year (which I desperately need to update)! It's always fun to find mention of a song or musician/artist/band that you love in fic, and I also enjoy how such inclusions can lead to finding new things to listen to (some of these songs made my spotify wrapped entirely because of these fics!).

This list brings together works that I have encountered in my reading travels that have somehow incorporated songs or artists within the work (separate from being inspiration or source of title). Darren Criss Is Betting Big on Maybe Happy Ending, the Musical You're About to Fall in Love With

Darren Criss on the Timelessness of MAYBE HAPPY ENDING

Darren Criss has danced up the corporate ladder as J. Pierrepont Finch, stripped down to his skivvies as a queer East German rock star and tackled the “profane poetry” of David Mamet. And still, he says, there’s one thing he hasn’t done: “I haven’t taken any risks on Broadway.”

That ends this season with Maybe Happy Ending, a new musical on a mission to draw audiences to the Belasco Theatre without the benefit of a recognizable title, popular source material or songs that have already spent time on the Billboard Hot 100. “It's a really, really hard market right now to be making art,” Criss says to Broadway.com Editor-in-Chief Paul Wontorek, chatting at So & So's Neighborhood Piano Bar. And commercial Broadway theater? It’s “tedious, expensive and a gamble.” So naturally, Criss is going double or nothing as both star and producer of Broadway’s next thrilling crap shoot.

Maybe Happy Ending takes the trappings of a classic love story and inserts futuristic robots with outdated software. Criss plays Oliver opposite Helen J Shen’s Claire—a pair of Helper-Bots who, on a quest to contact their former owner, evoke a kind of Millennial-Gen Z mismatch. But rather than getting swept away by love, the two retired machines take the concept itself and try to break it down to its zeros and ones. As Criss explains, “[It’s] two computers trying to computationally synthesize and process what love is and why human beings do this.”

The musical was a hit when it debuted in Seoul, South Korea nearly a decade ago, and now, writers Will Aronson and Hue Park have a crafted an English-language version that Criss thinks has the potential to ascend to the proverbial Heaviside Layer of musical theater. “This is the seminal version that I hope can last in perpetuity for the ages,” he says, adding confidently, “I do feel like this is a timeless piece.”

Original musicals have the most challenging road on Broadway. But when you look to grassroots successes like Urinetown, or Dear Evan Hansen, or even The Prom—which ran in New York for less than a year but inspired a starry film and a slate of regional and international productions—you see how quickly an unknown quantity can become canon. “People are always like, ‘There’s no one creating original things,’” Criss says. “They are. It’s just really, really hard to produce them because you really have to believe in something hard enough to be OK with the risk.”

The fact that Maybe Happy Ending has earned that belief from some of the theater’s heaviest hitters is telling. Director Michael Arden, hot off a 2023 Tony Award for his revival of Parade, chose the piece as his next musical. And producers Jeffrey Richards and Hunter Arnold, with nearly 20 Tony Awards between them, have given Arden free rein to make a capital “B” Broadway meal of it.

The show’s cast is deceptively modest (Marcus Choi and Dez Duron complete the four-hander), but there’s nothing minimalist about Arden’s vision for Maybe Happy Ending or the high-tech space he’s worked out with set designer Dane Laffrey. In short, “They don’t f**k around,” says Criss. “This show is very technologically advanced. I think it's kind of the ace in the hole that people aren't expecting.” He tosses out comparisons to Miss Saigon’s descending helicopter and The Phantom of the Opera’s haunted chandelier—emblems of the bygone ‘80s megamusical. In an era of subtlety and economy (think recent Tony winners Kimberly Akimbo or The Band’s Visit), this, Criss promises, is “a big-a** mother**king spectacle.”

It's another bold, all-in move from the Maybe Happy Ending team, but Criss is determined to hedge no bets this time around. He looks back at his Broadway resume: How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (“Glee was white-hot and I was going in for three weeks after Daniel Radcliffe”); Hedwig and the Angry Inch (“People love that show. With or without me, it would be just fine”); American Buffalo (“A beloved and respected American play”).

“They're all classics to some degree,” he concludes. “This is not that.” Of course, understanding what Maybe Happy Ending is not is less of an issue than getting audiences to understand what it is. Right now, Criss says, there are rumblings around town that it’s “the cute little robot show.” The thought puts a mischievous grin on his face: “You have no idea.”

Hear HALESTORM's Cover Version Of BROOKS & DUNN's 'Boot Scootin' Boogie'

HALESTORM has teamed up with American country music duo BROOKS & DUNN to record a reimagined version of the latter band's song "Boot Scootin' Boogie", which is included on BROOKS & DUNN's "Reboot II" album, released today (Friday, November 15) via Sony Music Nashville. Regarding how HALESTORM got involved with the project, the band's frontwoman Lzzy Hale wrote on Instagram: "Months ago we received an email we were never expecting to receive. @brooksanddunn asking us to create a reimagined version of their legendary song 'Boot Scootin' Boogie'. This, a request too wild to even consider passing on, more than wet our appetite for adventure. We asked if there were any rules for this particular project…and when they replied with a resounding 'NO RULES APPLY', the boys and I knew this was gonna get weird.

"It's such an honor to have earned the trust of these legends, thank you so much to Kix Brooks, Ronnie Dunn, Dan Huff, Juice and the entire B&D team for putting your faith in us and letting us throw a wild party in the beautiful house you built."

"Reboot II" is the follow-up to BROOKS & DUNN's 2019 album "Reboot", which provided the Country Hall Of Fame act with its first No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart in a decade.

In addition to HALESTORM, "Reboot II" features Megan Moroney, Hailey Whitters, Lainey Wilson, Ernest and Warren Zeiders, Morgan Wallen, Jelly Roll, HARDY and Corey Kent, as well as bluesmen Marcus King and Christone "Kingfish" Ingram.

Sasha is a spider monkey with a athletic like build and grey skin with blackish grey fur with light grey spots and has purple hair with light purple streaks on the front to the back of her hair. Inn season 1 + 2, her outfit contains a traditional kung fu outfit light purple shirt and black pants. She also wears causal outfit that contain a black-grey shirtless tank top underneath a blue long-sleeve jacket with a hood and with light blue wrist band on her wrist.

In season 3, Sasha wears, she wears a sleeveless tank top with dark-brown tights with cream belt, wears elbow length gloves with black closed-toed sandals and the wave patterned bandanna she received from her adoptive mother.

Personality

Sasha had a warm, compassionate, and caring personality and often acted as a motherly figure to the group, even acts like aunt figure towards irritated Red Son. She displayed deep affection for those she traveled with and was fiercely protective whenever their safety was threatened. Her inner strength kept MK and their friends together through their most difficult experiences.

When she was young, she was curious and was quite adventurous loving monkey to look around and explore and was closed to her brothers and her adopted parents. Sasha developed fear of water after witnessed her older brother death during the flood, evening refused to go into the ocean. Sasha would bottled her feelings for the sake of others.

Sasha was originally a red Panda but was scrapped into a spider monkey.

Her name means "Protector/Defender of World".

Sasha's backstory was originally was that, Sasha was born form a water stone and the Lady Bone Demon essence was transported into her stone, which make her a descended of her and a vessel instead before Jiang was the replacement included.
