#marchmeetthemaker day 1- Brand introduction I’m doing #marchmeetthemaker2021 by @joannehawker again this year! The past couple of years I have done it over on my art account @thedisc0panda but thought I would do it here on my shop account this year instead for a change, it will help you learn a bit more about me and my business and allow me to post more frequently here. Brand introduction: If I’m to be entirely honest, I’m still working on figuring out exactly what I want my “brand” to look like, and am currently in the process of phasing out some old designs in favor of new things that fit more with what I’d like to make. But, to sum it up- I’m a huge nerd who likes to make cute and interesting illustrations as it says in my bio, and I’m a tad bit obsessed with fantasy...I make pins, stickers, prints, patches (I have one now but am planning for more) and acrylic charms/keychains at the moment in addition to the various things you can find on my redbubble and society6 stores and have plans to expand into more things in the future. #You I started Hannah's Heartfelt Hobbies 1 year and 3 months ago. I draw, felt sculpt and paint, and I love experimenting with all different mediums. I practiced Japanese fencing arts and earned 1st and 2nd degree black belts in Kendo and Iaido respectively. 4-H has played a huge role in my life, and I have volunteered as a 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor for over a decade. I earned my BS in Biological Science with a combined Phys-Chem-Math minor. Now, along with running my small business, I work as a Librarian Assistant for OCPL doing reference work and teen programming. My subjects are almost exclusively scientifically accurate critters, plants and mushrooms. DAY ONE ° It's the first day of #marchmeetthemaker of 2019 and this year I'm going to wing it instead of preparing to see if I can get away with it ;) ° I'm also going to break the rules slightly with the first prompt, which is 'Favourite To Make' by talking about Best-Sellers and Least Favourites. ° Even though the Magic Wand Pencils were-by far-my best-sellers, in the end I came to hate and stop making them. Why? Seems like a stupid thing to do, right. A stupid business decision. But whilst it's really great to have favourite things to make, you also have to sell them, and I bet most people's favourite makes don't sell that well. And that's business. Getting that balance between what sells and what you enjoy is really hard, and sometimes not crying whilst painting hot-gluegunned Pencils is a better income than lots of money. But free if it was lots and LOTS of money I'd put up with it. #marchmeetthemaker Day One: Story I was inspired by @teddybearorphans and found a YouTube video making the exact #gnomes I wanted. This was my very first #handfelted gnome, Tomlin Brumbly. I ❤️ it so much, I made 20 more. I felt the need to keep #felting these little dudes so I needed an #etsyshop so I could afford the wool and to share them. 🍄 I have had my @etsy shop for three and a half years and this last year, I started getting orders on my home site (see link in bio to sign up for my Gnome Army Newsletter). I have been so amazed by the amount of people wanting to adopt a gnome or have me make one special for them. 🍄 I have almost made 100 sales on Etsy and 30 on my site. To date, I have sold over 250 individual gnomes. Especially ones like this, where every paper petal is individually hand folded before being make into flowers, clusters and then together onto the wreath form. #MarchMeetTheMaker day 1: You & your work This is just a small selection of the items I make and it varies from time to time depending on events or how I feel. I mostly make a variety of bags, baby clothes and small gifts made from offcuts, scraps and fabric that no one else wants anymore. I can find a use for most fabrics and hate the idea that any should head for landfill. #marchmeetthemaker day 1 "Brand Intro" well this is me! As my logo says I am Zo and I knit & Sew. I also dabble in lots of other crafty things but sewing has always been my "thing". Knitting is not so much now as I am trying to learn new ways to knit as I have the beginnings of Arthritis in my "throwing finger", the finger used to wrap the yarn around the needle. Crochet and loom knitting are a couple of replacements when I am unable to knit. I make a variety of bags, gifts and baby clothes. #366days day 61. #marchmeetthemaker @joannehawker day 1 theme 'Story' I am Zoe, I knit and Sew a wide range of items! I started sewing from a young age on my 1919 Singer Treadle sewing machine. I used to make my own clothes as a teenager and clothes for my children when they were small. I did needlework classes at school and I did a beginners pattern cutting course at Plymouth College of Art last year. I was only going to be doing this to fill in a couple of years before I could draw my pension but the Government had other ideas so I have at least another 6 years to keep going! I live on the Rame Peninsula and sell at craft fairs in the local area. I sell mostly babies & childrens clothes as they are the most popular lines.
