ALSO for anyone who was asking I had not heard of promstuck! I was like seven when it came out lol (i'm 17 now) but I have since read it. I also tried to find some more stuff from the original marching stuck but it looks like that's been basically scrubbed from the internet unfortuntely.

Here are the guard uniforms for my homestuck marching band au!! The uniforms are based on the god tier pjs hence the hood. Their marching show is sburb themed and sort of loosely follows the same sort of plot as the comic (but nixing most of the meat of it yknow? basically kids fight a bad guy in space is the theme lol)

literally so excited you asked here are some of my faves

Dave played sax for like a month but is total dogshit at playing woodwinds so he decided percussion was cooler

Jade and John can both play a couple instruments, Jade plays mellophone, french horn, flute, and a little sax, while John plays trumpet, piano, and trombone

I think I drew this one a little but Terezi and Vriska each try to play as loud as possible when playing stands tunes so that they're louder than each other

Tavros plays trumpet for concert band but does front ensemble for marching band since my man can't march

He does get to play a trumpet solo their senior year and he fucking crushes it thank you very much

Dirk is the woodwind section leader

Karkat is a drum major so he always has to help put front ensamble stuff away and Dave annoys the fuck out of him while they do

Most of the characters are juniors except for the alpha kids

I hope this was informative, I might continue marchinstuck stuff eventually but probably not any time in the next month lol

every time i'm like delving into my memories of marching band to get inspo for marchingstuck I'm like "wow this is actually something so stupid that it would happen in canon" The homestuck kids are fr so band kid coded it's insane.

Two of my friends started flirting because they were fighting over a dora umbrella. Like I can so clearly imagine dave bringing a dora umbrella to band one day and karkat desperately trying to hide it so he never has to see it again. And then it turns into this big clusterfuck war where karkat keeps hiding it in stupid places or just like straight up throwing it in trashcans and in retaliation dave keeps leaving it in spots that he knows karkat will see it just to taunt him. Terezi and Sollux tease both of them mercilessly about it

okay so their show is like "space" themed in universe but it's basically sburb themed (like super loosely lol) so most of the color guard are dressed in black and white like chess pieces and junk, except for roxy and jake who have their own costumes because they have their own solo thing at the beginning and end.

the chess theme and the space theme are at odds with each other which makes their whole show really weird and kind of hard to understand which some people love (jade & terezi) and some people hate (karkat)

I figure the music would be like classical versions of some of the songs from hs but I don't listen to enough of the music to decide which songs would for sure be a part lol

Hi band kid here!! (Clarinet and tenor sax although I never had the opportunity to march; just concert and jazz for me) I would love to hear more abt ur band au omg tell me anything I’m all ears (particularly I’m curious what does karkat play?) love your art sm!!

ahhhh i'm so excited that you're curious!! it has been less than a year since I did band stuff (clarinet and alto sax lol) and I have so many fond memories of it that inspired this au!

To answer your question Karkat plays clarinet. It was kind of hard to pick an instrument for him since my initial instinct was to stick him with whatever one can be the loudest lol but I remembered in my band years always being so frustrated that all the other clarinets were so quiet and that seemed like such a Karkat thing to do to me. The irony of him playing an instrument that's usually so quiet and just like being as loud as possible is hilarious.

In the marching band he's a drum major, i figure he's one of those kids who starts doing it like sophomore year because he's actually like really good at it. I also just think the idea of him fucking glaring at the whole band while conducting is so in character for him.

I'm also like a sucker for davekat stuff so Karkat and Dave start talking because they both always have to stay late to help out with stuff since Karkat's a drum major and Dave's in drumline!

It’s so funny having people who know more about certain instruments than me in the tags, like yess I totally know what holding four mallets is called and I definitely knew that you’re supposed to have a harness on when playing baritone haha yes I am so intelligent

ur marchinstuck au is very good. I think abt them so much I am spinning them in my head at terminal velocity. the instruments you picked for them are so accurate. you have no idea how they have effected my brain chemistry. in other news, how about that owl house finale

thank you for the praise for my marchingstuck lol, it is very heavily impacting my brain chemistry as well. Though it didn't give me nearly as much lasting brain rot as the owl house finale did. Half of my head exploded in sheer awe at the animation and how well they tied up the story. I will suffer lasting damage and I wouldn't have it any other way, truly an outstanding show
