March 2025 reading wrap up
I was not expecting so many books this month, but I guess those are the consequences of the big return of audiobooks in my life! I had missed listening to audiobooks and my overall lack of energies this month made me pick the habit back up, and I am having a great time! It was overall a lovely month of reading. It was quite chaotic, but I feel like it perfectly represents my goal of embracing whatever feels natural in my reading life. I picked books up, let them go, paused stuff, had some rereads, found my love for audiobooks again, a lot happened, but I am happy. This proves that letting myself be chaotic and just listening to my needs in reading makes a great reading time, which is exactly the point of my yearly goal of no goals, and just going with what feels the most natural.
Books read:
Cultish by Amanda Montell (audiobook)
The Decagon House Murders by Ayatsuji Yukito
A Psalm For The Wild Built by Becky Chambers (audiobook) (reread)
The Lord Of The Flies - the graphic novel adaptation by W. Golding and illustrated by A. De Jongh
Nimona by ND Stevenson (reread)
Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faries by Heather Fawcett (audiobook)
Deadendia: The Watcher's Test by Hamish Steele (reread) (read this for the trans rights readathon)
The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irvin (audiobook)
Deadendia: The Broken Halo by Hamish Steele (reread) (trans rights readathon read)
Dnf:
Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix (when I started it I was having a good time but by the end it became a painful task. I risked a reading slump. This was way too long and slow. I doubt I will attempt to read another Grady Hendrix book in the future)
Paused:
Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White (I read around 60 pages, was loving it, but I realized how emotionally heavy it is going to be, and I am not at all in the right headspace to deal with those kind of emotions. So I decided to pause it and save it for when I'll feel a bit stronger emotionally)
Current reads (books I have not necessarly started on March but I have been reading and haven't finished yet):
Re:carmilla (audio adaptation of Carmilla by S. Le Fanu)
Emily Wilde's Map Of Otherlands by Heather Fawcett (I actually finished it today but it is the new month so I won't include it in the reads for March)

March 2025 Reading Wrap-Up
Two books in March. I struggled a lot this month, both physically and mentally. And they both sucked.
1/10 - Why Did They Publish This?
None applicable.
2/10 - Trash
The Witch’s Guide To Animal Familiars: Spells, Rituals & Recipes For Making Magic With Animal Allies | Madame Pamita
So there are a lot of complaints I have about this book. Ultimately, it comes down to this: I wish the author cared for people of color as least as much as she cares about animals in this text, and I wished she had as much respect for other cultures as she had for nature.
3/10 - Meh
The Magic Of Shapeshifting | Rosalyn Greene
This is technically just as bad as the previous one, but I read this one first and it has the excuse of being published in 2000. I'm going to use it for reference like the other one, but damn, I can't recommend this.
4 to 6/10 - Mid-Tier
None applicable.
7 to 8/10 - Good With Caveats
None applicable.
9/10 - Very Very Good
None applicable.
10/10 - Unironically Recommend To Everyone
None applicable.

Books Read in March, 2025!
I've been really bad with keeping track of my reviews this month (and the end of February), so I thought I'd just share the books I read this month--since it's the end of March!
What did you read in March?
Happy reading!

March 2025: Reading Report
I've got a busy spring both ahead and behind. All good stuff, lots of social events which have been and will be a ton of fun, but it is leaving me feeling a little frantic on the work end of things, scrambling to keep up. Hopefully I can keep up with everything. (Never mind that I'm writing this post to put off work I need to do...) In the meantime, March reads:
Tumblr media
A Companion to Greco-Roman and Late Antique Egypt edited by Katelijn Vandorpe* Sons of Darkness (The Raag of Rta #1) by Gourav Mohanty- 3.5/5 stars I picked this up on a whim and did not realize that it's inspired by the Mahabharata and Game of Thrones. Having read neither of those texts, I thought it was interesting, I do think that's more or less exactly what it is, so you may find it less original than I if you know the source material. Ghost Stories by M.R. James I didn't rate this, as I sometimes don't with short story collections, but I'm really glad I read some more James! (I think before I'd only read "O Whistle". Happy to be at least a little better versed in his work. The Decagon House Murders (The Bizarre House Mysteries #1) by Yukito Ayatsuji- 3.5/5 stars This was fun! And it was not a straight-up Christie retelling like I feared, though the homage is clear and explicit. The explanation at the end was a bit neat, but I had a good time. The Volcano Daughters by Gina María Balibrera- 4/5 stars Powerful story about a piece of history that I previously knew nothing about. I liked the narrative voices a lot, though the in-text interruptions and digressions were sometimes a little much. Dreamland by Nancy Bilyeau- 1.75/5 stars I liked the setting a lot but the main character kind of sucked, imo. Plus, the mystery didn't really hold any tension for me. (Oh, and the cousin thing...highly unnecessary.) The Devourers by Indra Das- 3.25/5 stars There were things about this I really liked and other things that I was over pretty quickly. Some of the messaging felt unnecessarily repetitive, though the framing story in particular was neat.
*read for academic purposes and therefore not rated Currently Reading: Nightmare Movies by Kim Newman (I made real progress! 72% finished!) and The Bone Ships (The Tide Child #1) by RJ Barker

As you can see, there was only one thing on my mind in March. I already said my peace in other posts, so I'm just gonna leave this here.
