Platonic Moxiety

“You’ve been baking.”

It’s a pretty simple statement. There’s no judgemental tone. There’s no attempt to accuse him of anything. There’s barely a hidden meaning, and yet Patton’s shoulders tense.

“Yep!” He grins, far too wide. He doesn’t turn around.

“The kitchen’s covered.” Another gentle observation.

“Well, you know that Roman likes his sweets.” Patton shrugs. The rise and fall of his shoulders feels like he’s lifting weights. He’s surprised he doesn’t stumble.

When Virgil doesn’t offer another remark, Patton continues to knead. Virgil isn’t a very vocal person. He doesn’t need to say the thirty or so words Logan and Roman jam into their sentences. The silence still unsettles him though.

He’s in this weird place of wanting to pound the dough but not having enough energy to do that.

Despite that, he doesn’t stop.

He can sense Virgil’s relentless stare. The back of his neck burns and he raises the back of him arm to wipe his forehead, repeating the same motions over and over.

Useless, a voice hisses in his mind. He shakes his head.

He’ll knead until the cookies in the oven are done. Then he has to put the icing on the cupcakes and actually finish the brownie batter. After that - goofball - he can set the dough aside and try one of the cupcakes. Immature. Roman will probably want one - hindrance - so he can call the Prince down. Then-

“I could help. If you’d like.”

Patton looks down at his motionless hands then at Virgil, who is now by his side. Virgil’s eyes flit around and his hands remain in his pockets but it’s not hard to see that he desperately wants to take over.

“Suppose I could use a break!” Patton answers. He steps back and attempts to wring the tremors out of his fingers behind Virgil’s back.

Whenever the other casts a glance his way, Patton musters up an encouraging smile. It never lasts long.

There’s quite a few sounds now in the kitchen - the oven and Virgil, to list a couple - but Patton’s compelled to strike up a conversation.

“Anything you want to talk about, kiddo?”

Virgil shakes his head. “Not really.”

A minute passes by before he tries again. “I didn’t think you liked baking?”

“I don’t.”

Huh. “Oh. Sorry.” Patton moves to take over. Virgil waves him off.

“No, Pat, just… I don’t enjoy baking, but I like your company and it seemed like you were going to be here awhile so…”

“Oh.” A little piece of his chest warms at the thought. “Thank you,” he adds a moment later.

Virgil catches his eye and offers a hesitant smile before returning to the dough. “I thought you could use a friend.”

Patton beams. His shoulders finally relax. His eyes crinkle and he steps forward to put an arm around Virgil’s shoulders.

“Only my best,” he proclaims. His head is quiet.

and then patton as lup not only serves angst, but also i always love picturing patton who is, yes, nurturing, but also a bit devious??? like typically when i do human AUs (or at least AUs where they aren’t just personality traits), i always like to give patton more of a fiery, playful streak

also i get some sweet logicality AND ALSO some sick best friend analogical AND ALSO ride-or-die sibling moxiety dynamics

except like. all their personalities are basically the same. roman is just as dramatic and couraegous. virgil is just as brooding and biting. logan is super sciency and calculating and a bit stoic. patton is what i put above. like bubbly and playful but also will fuck a bitch up

he is completely convinced that the “mystery man” of the first episode is moriarty (up until the reveal that it’s mycroft)

he loves the cinematography and the music

the deductions? kill him now

he gets a huge crush on benedict cumberbatch, but he’ll deny it to his dying day

patton walks in on him watching it in the commons one time and asks as to what logan’s watching. lo tells him, and then tentatively inquires if patton would like to watch with him?

they end up making it Their Thing to watch together after they catch patton up

logan always asks patton about why characters react as they do, if logically their actions were nonsensical – especially in the baskerville episode. he and patton get into some really interesting conversations about “ends vs means” that would probably be better off happening at one am

moriarty makes logan just. want to scREAM. because he’s such an interesting and well-developed character but he’s so fundamentally wrong but also he’s incredibly intelligent and just?? crisis???

moriarty also reminds patton a little too much of a certain snakey someone so patton gets a tad bit passive aggressive in his comments about moriarty when he and logan are roleplaying sherlock together

and patton has to explain to him that sure they maybe said that, but that he’s, “as you would say”, ignoring variables

there’s just a little amazed glance from logan for that one, to which patton shrugs. hey, he knows sciencey stuff, too

it’s not just their words, right? it’s their body language. how they interact. the subtext. how they talk about the other to third parties. how they. well. feel, more than just how they express those feelings

but of course, patton adds, this could all also be seen as some really close friends

logan appreciates the lesson. he doesn’t appreciate the mental paths it puts him down. but he appreciates the lesson and says as much.

okay also? imagine them watching reichenbach fall together? patton is quietly crying. logan guessed the gist of the ending but is surprised to feel tears slipping down his face when he sees john’s reaction to. well. everything.

imagine them watching when sherlock comes back in season three. logan asks patton how he feels about the morals of john just. punching sherlock. patton shifts a little guiltily at that one, and says that he understands the reaction, even if it definitely could have been better

logan is?? confusion??

but then pat elaborates that, well.

“i just thought about how i would feel if, say, you did that to me. and i.. i felt mad. and of course i wouldn’t hit you, but... well, considering john’s past.. it’s understandable, you know?”

and logan thinks oh. oh.

on an unrelated note: the moriar-tea puns. SO. MANY. TEA. PUN S

oh god, the last episode wrecks them

sure, logan tries to brush it off, tries to straighten his tie and point out inaccuracies in the fourth season, but deep down he and patton both know that they both loved the show. so much.

and one day, when they’re sitting in the commons together, while princess and the frog blasts on the television and roman and virgil try to avoid popcorn the other is chucking at them, logan turns to patton

“you know, you actually remind me quite a bit of watson”

“why? ‘cause i’m the responsible one here?”

“no, not at all. because.. because you’re strong. and that.. is quite admirable”

and patton looks back at logan, a smile practically splitting his face, and he shoots back, “well, you’ve always reminded me of sherlock, ya know”

logan adjusts his glasses, taken aback. “really? why?”

‘because i’m cold? because i’m calculating? because i’m the opposite of everything that you are?’

and patton’s smile impossibly widens, and he says

“because you’re a good man, lo”

and with that, he rests his head on logan’s shoulder, and continues watching the movie

and logan may not say it out loud, but that?

that means everything

Ship: Romantic Prinxiety

a/n: This is my first time writing fanfiction, so I have no idea really how it turned out, so I hope it’s adequate.

Word Count: 1,331

Virgil sighed as he entered his room after a long day of filming for Thomas’ new video. ‘Finally.’ he thought, as he slowly walked to his bathroom, his eyes hurting slightly from having to wear his colored contacts for so long ‘I can take these stupid things out’. He walked into the bathroom and quickly took his contacts out, blinking a few times as he did so. After he was done, he looked back to the mirror, up at his startlingly pale face and at his rich violet eyes.

As a figment of Thomas’ personality, he had no idea how or why his eyes would be different while all the other side’s matched Thomas’, but they are. ‘Just another thing to add to the list of reasons I don’t fit in’  he thought cynically. He sighed and looked away before turning off the light and exiting his bathroom.

The problem wasn’t that Virgil didn’t like them, honestly he thought they were pretty cool. The problem was he didn’t know what the others would think.

‘They had just accepted me as a part of the group, would they still want to deal with me if they knew how weird I am?’  Virgil thought worriedly. ‘No,’  he thought, shaking his head, ‘It’s better this way, they think I’m normal enough and maybe even care about me. That’s worth being slightly uncomfortable for.’

Virgil walked over to his bookshelf to grab his headphones before settling into bed to listen to one of his favorite audiobooks.

Virgil woke up around 11 the next morning and spent about 15 minutes trying to coax himself out of bed before finally getting up to get dressed and put in his contacts. He got dressed, although a bit slower than normal, but before he could make it to the bathroom, he felt a familiar tugging sensation in his gut and before he could register what was happening, he was in the mindspace common room.

His eyes widened and tried to sink back down before they saw him, but Roman noticed him standing there before he had the chance.

“Good morning, Panic! At the Everywhere, I need your-” He gasped suddenly as he finally noticed Virgil’s eyes.

“Virgil, your eyes…” Roman started, an unrecognizable emotion hidden in his voice, but Virgil didn’t let him finish, as he ran out and up the stairs as quickly as possible back into his room and locked the door, forgetting momentarily that he could have just sunk out.

As soon as Virgil got into his room, he sank to the floor as the thoughts started to swarm around in his head.

‘They’re going to hate you now. They know your secret and that you lied to them.’  Virgil sighed and tried to dismiss the thoughts as he tried to calm his slightly erratic breathing and figure out what to do.

“They’re going to come up here in a little while, so I’ve got to focus and figure out what I’m going to say.” Virgil muttered to himself, “Maybe I can convince them that it was just a trick of the light, or maybe that they were contacts.” Virgil pondered these ideas for a moment before shaking his head and continuing, “No, they aren’t stupid, they saw me panic, so they would never believe that.”

Virgil was just about to get up to grab his headphones to listen to some music to calm himself down, when a knock at his door startled him.

“Virgil, may I come in?” Roman called through the door.

“Virgil’s not here right now, come back later.” Virgil grumbled.

Roman sighed before silently saying, “Virgil, please.”

Virgil sighed before reluctantly opening the door. “What do you want?” he asked quietly, looking down at his feet while cringing at the bitterness in his voice. When he looked up at Roman, he saw the princely side staring back at him with a look that was a mix of concern and confusion.

“Virgil, earlier today…”  Roman paused, searching for the right thing to say, “Your eyes --”

Virgil cut him off saying quickly, “They’re just contacts!” but quickly gave up after seeing the incredulous look on his face. Sighing, Virgil said, “Yes, my eyes are purple,” he met Roman’s eyes for a moment, blushing slightly at the look of childlike wonder in his eyes before continuing, “I use colored contacts to cover it up because I didn’t want you guys to… to think I was weird or anything… and now you’re probably angry because I lied to you for so long.” He glanced back up at the royal’s face, trying to gauge his reaction.

Roman looked at Virgil softly before saying, “Virgil, we would never be angry with you for something like this.” he paused before continuing, cheeks tinted slightly pink, “And I find your purple eyes to be quite… alluring.”

Virgil was blushing profusely by now, but somehow managed to stutter out a response. “Y-you don’t really mean that…”  

“Virgil, may I show you something?” Roman asked. Virgil nodded and followed Roman as he entered into the emo’s room.

Roman stopped in front of Virgil’s mirror. ‘Did he really want to come in here just look at himself?’ Virgil thought incredulously, but stopped as Roman shut his eyes before taking a deep breath, and turning back to Virgil, eyes still closed.

Before Virgil could say anything, Roman spoke. “I have a little secret myself, actually.” Roman slowly opened his eyes and looked down at Virgil nervously.

Virgil stood there quietly as he stared at the other side’s face. Specifically his right eye, which was a startling emerald green in contrast to his caramel brown left eye.

Virgil walked closer to Roman and slowly raised his hand to the side’s face, tears slowly forming at the corners of his eyes. Roman looked at him worriedly before blurting out, “I’m so sorry, I made you upset and now you’re crying, oh god, I messed up and-”

“N-no… these are…happy t-tears. I thought my eyes were just another thing to separate me from you guys.” Virgil reassured.

The next words to come out of his mouth were words Virgil never thought he’d get the courage to say. “C-can I kiss you?”

Roman looked at the smaller side, eyes growing wide and his face quickly becoming a deep shade of red. “Virgil… I-” Roman started before Virgil quickly backed away and cut him off.

“Oh god, I’m sorry, I don’t know what made me say that; why did I ever even fathom the idea that you maybe liked me back and- mmph!” Virgil interrupted as a soft pair of lips met his and ‘Oh my god, I’m kissing Roman. Oh my god!’  It only took a few moments before Virgil was kissing him back.

The kiss started out slow, but quickly became more passionate, with Roman’s hands finding their way around Virgil’s waist and the emo’s hands entangled in the royal’s hair.

Unfortunately for them, the kiss was cut short by a knock at the door.

“Hey kiddos, just wanted to tell you that lunch is ready!” Patton called through the door, not wanting to violate their privacy, “I made burgers, so hurry before they get cold!”

Virgil whined as Roman broke the kiss to start towards door before looking back over to Virgil, slowly offering his hand before saying, “Well, My Dark and Stormy Knight, are you ready to go or do you want to put your contacts in first?” Roman smiled slightly as Virgil shook his head.

“How about you?” Virgil said, almost reluctantly, as he didn’t want Roman to be uncomfortable, but he really loved seeing his different colored eyes.

“No, actually.” Roman began, “I think I’m ready to share my ‘secret’ too.” He smirked before continuing, “And purple and green seem to go well together.”

Virgil chuckled at Roman’s reference to one of Virgil’s lines from the new video before taking Roman’s hand as they walked out to join the others downstairs for lunch.

but!!! about the other birds!!!!! i have put so much thought into this so first let me just put everything in the order of which i think forgiveness happens

merle/lup (during s&s)

magnus (during s&s)/davenport (shortly after s&s)

barry (a while after s&s)

taako (a while after s&s)

and now, my explanations:

merle: from the get-go of s&s, we see that merle never treats lucretia with animosity. while taako and magnus are pointing their weapons at her, merle is constantly asking what they’re doing and trying to get them to put their weapons down. also, canonically, i think it’s safe to say that merle doesn’t hold much of a grudge. he appears to like kravitz, even though kravitz almost killed him and had probably some hand (pun intended) in merle’s loss of faith for a little bit. he also greeted john warmly and kindly, even though their last interaction involved merle telling john to “kiss my ass, you sanctimonious bastard.” also, though, maybe it’s just me, but i saw merle and lucretia as two very good friends. in stolen century, he constantly encouraged her and was the one to tell her that she should consider taking on a more leaderlike role. in the bureau, he admired the faith she had in herself. so, i think he would forgive lucretia first because, honestly? that’s just how merle is. not only does he admire lucretia and see her as a good friend, but it’s just in his nature. also, important to note, merle obviously loves his kids, and without lucretia, he wouldn’t have his kids. so, w/ the prior friendship he had with lucretia/madame director, his personality, and what he got after the voidfishing, i think he was always in a state of forgiving lucretia.

magnus: magnus is actually interesting in my opinion because, if it wasn’t for the fact that he found happiness in raven’s roost, i think he would be a lot less inclined to forgive lucretia. during stolen century, magnus learned how to ask for help and really became “the protector” during those one hundred years. he gained a family, and a dear pet, that he swore he would protect. however, this was lost after the voidfishing. he still wanted to protect but he didn’t exactly know who, or what. factor in the fact that he was the first one to start distrusting the director, plus the fact that he was getting very close with the voidfish, who didn’t seem to know how to answer any of his questions about the director, and all of that would add up to a rocky forgiveness of lucretia. except, now we have to consider two things. one being the fact that travis said it’s canon that magnus saw how hard of a decision lucretia had to make and, because of that, magnus doesn’t hold a lot of malice against her. the second thing that i think we need to consider is raven’s roost. after stolen century, i think we can say that magnus got the “happiest voidfishing,” in a way. he had raven’s roost, a stable job. he lead a city through a revolution that they all believed to be a success. he found the love of his life. it is canon that those years in raven’s roost were some of the happiest years magnus has ever experienced. if magnus didn’t have raven’s roost, didn’t at one point have julia, i think it would’ve been a lot harder for him to forgive her, bc what would he have had? he would’ve lost his friends, and who’s to say what life he would’ve made outside of raven’s roost. but, because lucretia was technically responsible for him going to raven’s roost and eventually finding julia (and stephen), i think that also factors into his forgiveness of her (plus the canonical stuff travis said, which i am 100% here for).

davenport: i firmly think that davenport forgives lucretia fairly quickly after s&s. now, you might be saying, “jordyn, what the actual fuck,” and don’t worry, i said the same thing to myself. but play with me in this space, give me a chance. i would put lucretia at lawful good, or at least in the “good” category between lawful/neutral. davenport, i think, falls kinda more around true lawful/true neutral. and this, i think, would factor into his forgiveness of lucretia. in stolen century, i think we saw early on that davenport is a very “means to the end” type of guy. he was the one who suggested destroying the crystal on the robot planet. he suggested blowing up the sacred mountain of the conservatory. by cycle 66, he was angry and tired. in cycle, what, 92? when they voted on the relics? davenport didn’t actually vote! he never expressed his opinion on the matter. he let the majority decide because, with whatever they chose, he would go along with it as long as they could see an end to their journey. then, during s&s, he was the one to suggest leaving. he was the one to suggest killing the voidfish. throughout seeing his actual character, and not just voidfished davenport, we see him constantly pushing towards the gruesome, though some might say “easy way out,” decisions. bc that’s who he is. destroy the crystal bc, even if it hurts people now, it will stop the hunger later. destroy the mountain bc, even if it sucks for this world, we can use the light to save other ones. make a decision between relics and a barrier because, even though we don’t know the results now, it could help later. leave this world, people are gonna die now, but we can try again next cycle. kill the voidfish, because then everyone can fight back. see? very “means to an end.” so, now, how does this factor into forgiveness? w/ the other birds’ forgiveness, it’s hinged on a much more emotional/social level. merle forgives bc it’s in his nature. magnus forgives bc of the bonds he has formed. davenport, though? it’s all… pragmatic, professional, almost? i think he would look at lucretia, at what she had done, and then at the fact that they saved the world, and would think, “well, she did what she had to, because without that, we wouldn’t have saved this world.” i don’t think he enjoyed being turned into just his name, and i still think he and lucretia need to talk, but i think, looking at the results of everything, he kinda sees it as “X had to happen so that Y could.” now, his forgiveness does hinge on saving the world. say they ran to a different plane? i don’t know if davenport would have forgiven her as easily, because then their failure would just look like a halt in their journey. but because they won? i think he would forgive lucretia because, well, they won. they finally got a happy ending and, after looking at all the decisions davenport tried to make, i think it’s safe to say that he understands having to make hard decisions.

barry: barry, like magnus, is complicated, i think. i think he has more notches in the “not forgiving lucretia for a while” category than not. why? similarly to taako, because of lup. except, instead of taako not knowing who lup was until the end, for barry it’s because he knew. when he was a lich, he 1) figured out what lucretia was doing and 2) figured out that lup had been voidfished. he found out that lucretia had made this organization w/ an inherent distrust of magic items and powerful magic users, he found out that lup had been voidfished entirely, and, most of all? lucretia was now actively working against him. i do not subscribe to the idea of lucretia being a villain, but in barry’s eyes, i think she was, just like barry might have been closer to an antagonist in lucretia’s eyes bc he was trying to undo her plan. so, i think barry takes a while to forgive lucretia bc 1) he lost lup, and knew he would forget lup once again once he was “alive” again, 2) lucretia knew he was out there and was now making her organization a place where he could never be, and 3) his friends were now actively working against him bc of the structure of the bureau. i think a huge part of the reason for barry and taako’s reluctance to forgive is so closely hinged on lup (well, for taako, that’s canonical) because i think it’s also important to remember that lup never forgot. sure, she was forgotten, which sucks a whole lot obvi, but she never had to forget her love and her brother. so i think that’s where a sort of rift happens bc taako and barry had to deal with forgetting lup, while lup never forgot them, and though that might be a post in itself if i could think of the right way to word it, i think that also factors into forgiveness a lot. i think, like w/ taako, he and lucretia also have a discussion, except i think that one might be a lot more emotionally charged bc these two were actively working against each other for a time. but i do think that they eventually reach reconciliation and perhaps do actually consider each other friends again.

taako: taako in itself is complicated just bc of how so many people are divided on it, but i think taako’s general rate of forgiveness (and lack thereof for a time) is self explanatory, but i gave my two cents here if you’re interested. tbh, the taako&lucretia situation would be much better told if i actually just wrote a fic on it, bc i feel like my thoughts could be much better expressed in prose than me trying to word my headcanons in a way that people could understand exactly what i have in my head. however, if pressed and given some time to answer and sort out my thoughts in a completely different post, i could probably try to write out all my thoughts on taako&lucretia post-s&s.
