After fervent refreshing for weeks, I found that the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival schedule finally went up this afternoon. I've planned my personal schedule, and I think I'm covering almost all the films I wanted to watch.
I really want to catch अंधारातल्या मशाली [aṅdhārātlyā maśālī] (torches in the dark), which appears to be the only exclusively Marathi-language film in the line-up this year. (Its English title is 'Marching in the Dark').
I could watch it on the 22nd, but if I pick it up, it leaves me with a roughly 1.5 hour gap in the schedule with nothing to do.
On the reverse, if I plan it for the 21st, I won't have time to lunch on that day.
I wish there was one more showing. 😩 There's even a lot of empty space in the schedule for one of the auditoriums on the final day! Come onnnn.

Exploring the vibrant worlds of the Gujarati, Bhojpuri, and Marathi film industries.
Among the oldest and biggest cinema industries around the globe is found in India. A public screening of an Indian movie occurred at the beginning of 1913. It was called Raja Harischandra. Finding someone to play female characters at the time was quite difficult. It has only recently been questioned whether the middle and lower classes still associate acting with a decline in virtue, female chastity, and credibility.
Gujarati Film Industry
Among the important regional and popular film industries in Indian cinema is Gujarati Cinema. The business has reached its best point over the past ten years thanks to sane and competent directors who have won the audiences' high praise. The movies have original stories, excellent acting, beautiful music, and a wide range of genres, including Family, Tragedy, Comedy, Mystery, Sports, Sci-Fi, Historical Drama, Action, and Relationship.
At the 64th National Film Awards, the movie "Wrong Side Raju" won the National Film Award for Best Motion Picture in Gujarati. The next film, "Reva," took up the 66th National Film Award for Best Motion Picture in Gujarati.
The Gujarati film industry's most admirable quality is that it consistently embraces Bollywood stars who are not Gujarati (Bollywood). Amitabh Bachchan, a Bollywood celebrity, and Jaya Bachchan both had cameo appearances in "Carry On Kesar."
The Gujarati film sector has produced numerous films filmed outside of India, demonstrating the sector's rapid expansion. The industry supports artistic filmmaking and its promotion across various media.
More than 8 crore Gujaratis and a global audience have been reached by Gujarati cinema thanks to innovation and art over the years. Gujaratis are wealthy, and the Gujarati movie business will soon reach new heights of development. There are several Gujarati actors in Bollywood as well.
Bhojpuri Film Industry
In recent years, Bhojpuri cinema has seen a significant evolution. This has enticed numerous prominent Bollywood actors to join the Bhojpuri film industry.
Bhojpuri film was fighting for its life and was on the verge of extinction until lately. However, the collaborative effort of the Bhojpuri film industry's creators, directors, and producers brought the sector back to life by turning it profitable once more.
Bhojpuri cinema has established a niche today, and its popularity on the international market has skyrocketed. There is a worldwide audience for Bhojpuri films, not just in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The Indian diaspora living in Brazil, Fiji, South Africa, Guyana, Suriname, Mozambique, and Trinidad & Tobago enjoys watching Bhojpuri films. To know more about this in detail you can log into our Bhojpuri film industry app.
Marathi Film Industry
The Marathi film industry has continuously produced works of art. The business has developed a reputation for being content-centric and important thanks to movies like Fandry, Court, and Kaasav. A few years ago, the phenomenal box office success of Marathi films like Sairat, Natsamrat, and Lai Bhaari gave the impression that the industry was prosperous. But, the reality of Marathi cinema's box office performance could be better. 2019 witnessed 11 weeks where three or more Marathi films were released on the same day, which is unusual in an industry where even a solo movie struggles to maintain at the box office. This gives these movies no chance at the box office.
The Marathi movie business has its work cut out for it as the pandemic effect on the box office fades over time, and the box office throughout languages starts to rebound. It must address some fundamental structural issues for more sustained success at the box office. To know more about this in detail, you can log into our Marathi film industry app.
Bollywood is acknowledged as having the biggest global film production sector. In all, 2961 films were made in India, including 1602 features in 2012. India offers some of the lowest prices in the planet for movie tickets.

Imtiaz Khatri Producer - Bringing Waves In Film, Entertainment, And Philanthropy
Entrepreneur and acclaimed producer Imtiaz Khatri has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the Indian Entertainment Business. Dynamic in his contributions to Bollywood, impassioned about cinema, and a dedicated philanthropic worker, the name Imtiaz Khatri has become synonymous with both artistic and social accomplishment. This enterprising young man, born on September 9, 1989, in Mumbai, has skilfully balanced his entrepreneurial spirit with an intrinsic love for film, offering the industry with newer insights while taking time out for causes close to his heart.
Early Life and Entry into Cinema
Imtiaz Khatri’s journey into the world of cinema began at a young age. Raised in a family where creativity and ambition were encouraged, he developed an early interest in film. His father, Nizar Khatri, has been a major influence in his life, instilling in him the values of hard work and vision. Imtiaz Khatri completed his schooling at St. Theresa’s High School in Bandra before earning his degree from the University of Mumbai in 2004.
Imtiaz was always fascinated by movies, but he wished to enter the entertainment industry to make films that would strike a chord with the masses on a deep emotional level. He was firm about making entry into this industry as an active player, not a viewer, a producer who would push the boundaries and tell new stories. He initially started off as a backstage player in the industry, though his entrepreneurial approach distinguished him and helped him create a niche for himself in Bollywood.
Establishing VVIP Universal Entertainment
Imtiaz Khatri entered the world of film production in the year 2017 by launching his production company, VVIP Universal Entertainment. The aim was vivid-to introduce fresh meaningful cinema to the Indian audience while keeping a high focus on quality. In no time, VVIP Universal Entertainment earned its fine reputation for producing films combining art and commerce.
The company’s first major project was the Marathi film Hrudayantar (2017), a romantic drama directed by Vikram Phadnis. The film received widespread acclaim for its emotional depth, and Khatri’s involvement in the production process helped elevate its success. Hrudayantar starred actors Subodh Bhave and Mukta Barve and featured a special cameo by Bollywood super star Hrithik Roshan. Imtiaz Khatri’s efforts as a producer were instrumental in the film’s positive reception, which resonated with both critics and audiences alike.
Success with Hrudayantar confirmed his position as a producer who could effectively balance both critical and box-office successes. VVIP Universal Entertainment, under Imtiaz Khatri, has concentrated on producing films with convincing narratives and entertaining performances, marking an identity for itself in the competitive Bollywood.
Expansion into Bollywood with Innovative Projects
Ever since Hrudayantar, Imtiaz Khatri continued to expand his footprint in Bollywood with a growing body of works that exhibit a commitment to quality filmmaking. He focuses not only on producing mainstream films but also supports independent films, which may never find an outlet to wide audiences. Khatri's production house works in tandem with talented directors and fresh faces, in the process helping to groom the next generation of filmmakers and actors.
Imtiaz Khatri’s mantra as a producer is to choose stories that are innovative yet relevant and ensure the content connects with the different strata. Khatri says that, whether for commerce or art, he believes in filmmaking that makes a difference-in stories that linger long after one has left the cinema.
The fact that Imtiaz Khatri has been able to choose the right projects has not gone unnoticed in the film fraternity. He has developed an eye for quality and is more often than not seen in tandem with directors that show enthusiasm for telling a story. Having invested in the creative and business aspects of filmmaking, Khatri ensures that each project gets the required attention from pre-production to its release.
A Champion of New Talent
Along with production, Imtiaz Khatri is also a strong propagator of new and fresh talent in the entertainment world. Under the banner VVIP Universal Entertainment, he has given opportunities to fresh faces by offering new actors, writers, and directors a platform to showcase their skills. Through this kind of promotion, Khatri plays a major role in giving a face to the next generation of filmmakers in Bollywood.
This goes beyond the sets of films as, quite often, Imtiaz works with budding filmmakers by providing guidance, resources, and mentorship necessary to make it big in a highly competitive industry. In talent development, his method combines nurturing the creative powers of upcoming stars along with professional growth, and so far, it has clicked wonderfully to bring in the next wave of Bollywood talent.
Philanthropy: Cancer Patients and Social Causes
Despite his successful venture in film production, Imtiaz Khatri has remained humble and conscious about giving back to society. His philanthropic works largely engage in the service of cancer patients, which he has been passionate about for many years. Of his most noted charity initiatives is working with the Celebrity Cricket Team participating in the INK Cricket Blast tournament. This event, unique in kind, offers support for cancer treatment through the money it raises from the evening.
The celebrity tournament is a congregation of who's who in the entertainment world, united for one cause of awareness and fundraising for cancer patients. To that aspect, this initiative by Imtiaz Khatri does prove his commitment to leveraging influence in the entertainment world for social change. Through association with a cause that has touched the lives of millions, Imtiaz Khatri is helping raise awareness about just how essential cancer treatment is while making tangible differences in the lives of those fighting the disease.
Besides cancer awareness, Imtiaz extends his support to other philanthropic projects for healthcare, education, and welfare improvement of the underprivileged in India. His charity basically testifies to the fact that he believes true success is not correctly estimated by professional achievements but by the positive impact one can bring about in society.
Vision for the Future
According to Imtiaz Khatri, the future still retains its commitment to professional success coupled with social commitment. As he sees his vision for the future, he hopes to produce such works in the field of cinema that have dared conventional narratives and pushed the creative envelope. He strives to make films which will entertain, educate, inspire, and leave an indelible mark on the culture. His philanthropic work will also always be growing to support causes close to his heart, which include health and education. This way, Imtiaz also hopes to be able to expand his work with charities as a force for good, mirroring any successes that may come in the world of entertainment.
Conclusion
The sojourn of Imtiaz Khatri in the world of entertainment testifies to his passion, vision, and commitment to both creativity and social change. As a producer, he has brought new meaning to impactful filmmaking: supporting innovative projects while providing opportunities for emerging talent. Further still, philanthropy carried out by him testifies to his belief that success is not just about personal achievement but rather about the effort one puts into improving others' lives using one's platform.
Imtiaz Khatri is one of Bollywood's leading pioneers and definitely has a very bright future ahead in both cinema and philanthropy. His work keeps on inspiring those around him-a proof that with passion and purpose, one can create not just art but a legacy to positively impact society for years to come.

I'll be attending the Mumbai Film Festival in a couple of weeks, and it always heartens me that they dedicate an entire category to Marathi films (as they should!).
Apart from these, there will be Marathi films in the other categories as well. I spotted "A Match" and "Baipan Bhari Deva" there, but there might be more, no doubt.
Anyway, I'm quite excited for it! I might highlight any Marathi films I watch on this blog.
