Awoken (Chapter 2) - A Destiny 2 Origin Story.

Uldren Sov x Original Female Character

Aurora Till is an Awoken born in the distributary and one of the only few female Crow's. She chose to be a Crow to hide the powers nestled inside her. Powers that could destroy everything she holds near and dear. Little did she know the hatred she once held for the Queen's Brother - Uldren Sov, is slowly evolving into something dangerous. Love. Now, not only does she need to hide from Mara, she also needs to navigate these growing feelings while knowing one wrong step could send everything around her crashing down. She needs to choose between her heart and survival.

What else could she want? I picked up the pace, knowing that I was already late. Rounding the corner, I found somewhere waiting outside for me.

“You’re late.” Uldren scoffed. Of course, it was Uldren waiting for me. Jolyon and Uldren were as thick as thieves, but given the choice, I would throw Uldren off a cliff. He was an arrogant asshole whose whole life was being the Queen’s Brother.

“I will be on time if you will let me through,” I growled, pushing past him. 

“When the Queen demands an audience, she expects you to be here earlier.” 

I rolled my eyes before turning back to him. “I will keep that in mind, and when she asked me why I was late. I will tell her you held me up.” I glared at him through my helmet, and he glared back. 

“ULDREN,” We heard, and Uldren got on one knee right away, and I followed suit. “I hope you aren’t holding my Corsair back.” 

“Of course not, my Queen.” I stifled a snicker that I felt building in my chest.

“Aurora, you are just in time,” Mara said, standing before me and holding out her hand. 

“I am sorry for being late.” 

“You are here now; that is all that matters. Come.” I stood, not looking back at Uldren, and followed the Queen into her Throne room. Inside, there are a lot more people than I expected. I thought this was a meeting for just me. Now, I saw this as something more significant. Mara continued to walk to her throne at the tip of the table, and I saw some of my Corsair comrades, so I joined them. Uldren came in a few moments later and took his spot next to his sister.

“Now that we are all here. We can start. Uldren and his Crow’s have intercepted some Fallen transmission recently.” The Queen began, then nodded to her brother to continue. 

“The transmissions are currently broadcasting on all Fallen frequencies. My Crow’s and I are working on breaking the encryption. All we know is that the Fallen Houses were all talking to each other. That was a thing that had never happened before.” Uldren stated, and everyone nodded. 

“With this information, I’ve asked my Techeuns to look into what may be occurring,” Mara added, nodding to Sedia. 

“We have looked earthward—and saw the Fallen there becoming bolder. Tactics suggested they are planning a massive attack.” She explained. 

“What does this have to do with us?” One of the Paladins at the front asked. 

“The City could be an ally for us in the future,” Mara explained. 

“We don’t currently have a way to inform them of what we know. Therefore, we must help them from here.” 

“We have detected a large group of Fallen in the Reef. The House of Wolves. The numbers are in the thousands, if not millions.” Uldren said, bringing up a holographic map on the table. “They are currently making their way to Earth. If they get there, the City will fall.” 

“Then what can we do?” A Corsair beside me asked. 

“We can stop the House of Wolves from joining the fight on Earth.” Sjur Eido interjected. I didn’t even see the Queen’s Wrath arrive. But then again, she would never leave Mara’s side. “Seemingly oblivious to our existence, the bulk of the Wolf fleet stopped to regroup at Ceres. They do not know that it is Awoken territory.” 

“If we attack...” Abra Zire began to say. 

“If we attack the House of Wolves, we will reveal ourselves to any and all enemies.” I said, “Or we stay silent and let the City fall and lose an ally as the Queen said.” I could feel the stares on me. I wish I had kept quiet.

LITERALLY LIKE THEY'RE INSANE. THE DYNAMIC EVER. the fact that majima said he was thinking of going to jail bc he was so bored without kiryu like my g-d the codependency on his part..... like the fact majima said only he could kill kiryu but then their relationship evolves past that!! the fact their fighting is flirting and how they've grown to respect the other soooo much. the fact kiryu said along the lines he trusts majima and that daigo doesn't know him like he does in kiwami 2.... THE WHOLE KIRYU-CHAN BELONGS TO ME. they're in love and they're insane and i love them. also I can make it so fucked up bc they're already like that <3 ALSO THR FACT MAJIMA WAS SOO HAPPY TO SEE KIRYU IN 7... I didn't know their dynamic then but now that I do oh my g-d that makes me smile :)

I LOVE THEM. there aren't a lot of options here that work for them but roguegambit are soo sweet and so in love and im so happy they get to be stably married now and have a new comic together as a married couple I just like them. they're happy and healthy and so flirty and so fun and what's not to like!! also like it's x-men so stupid fun plots are half the fun.

Queen's Wrath is Mara Sov's cold overly dramatic imperial remove way of declaring a woman the Queen's Wife, isn't it?

Sjur Eido set the precedent by being both Wrath and lover. And being fucking awesome but that's a conversation for another day.

At least two Paladins gave each other the cynical oh look look after Petra declared and Mara accepted her oaths.

And between Uldren escorting Petra, Petra getting choked up multiple times, the literal chorus singing in the background, the air being sweet with lavender, hundreds of candles lighting the room, Paladin Hallam being bloody verklempt, and Mara capping off this ceremony with a knife (fresh forged of course), Mara and Petra are practically married.

Mara Sov may be a galactic sized asshole but damn does this space elf have a flair for the dramatic.

The City of Dreams and Crow's (Chapter 9) - A Destiny Universe Story

Uldren Sov x Original Character

Sjur’s fist slammed on the desk, startling me. “You are on a fine line, Aurora. I saw this...Insubordination when you first applied to be a Corsair, but I also saw raw talent. I was hoping you could work past it. I thought you had outgrown the small Awoken child who stole the Galiot, But perhaps I was wrong.” Her words echoed in my mind, a painful reminder of my past actions and their lingering consequences. “You’ll be on probation until further notice. I need to see if you have what it takes to be a Corsair.” I kept my mouth shut to avoid making this worse. “You’re excused. Report to the training ring tomorrow.”

“Yes, Ma’am.” I stood and left without another word. Outside, I lifted a stone with my mind and tossed it as hard as I could in anger. Probation for who knew how long, and I was still at risk of getting fired. Great. I wanted Mara to leave me alone, not jettison me out of the only thing I’d done since arriving on the Reef. The rock crashed against something, and I left before whatever broke could be traced back to me. I was halfway out of the building when I noticed someone following me. I spun around, calling my knife to my hand to see Uldren.

“Tisk Tisk. Threatening the Prince of the Reef.” 

I seethed my knife while rolling my eyes. “Oh, please. How long have you been trailing me?”

“That’s needs to know.”

“Got nothing better to do with your time than to follow a lowly Corsair?”

Uldren smirked, crossing his arms. What I would give to wipe the smug smile of his fucking face. “From what I heard, you won’t be much longer.” 

“Fuck you,” I shoved passed him, but it wouldn’t be that easy. 

“Nah. You aren’t my type. Your brother is, but you were witness to that. Thanks... By the way, You killed that date night.”

My body felt like it was going to burst into flames as I remember the time I walked into my brother and Uldren having sex. “First. Ew. Second EW! I don’t know what Jolyon sees in you.”

“My stunning personality. Or perhaps the way I can make him scream my name.”

I covered my ears and gagged. “Why are you following me? Enjoy tormenting me with my brother’s sex life?”

“Fun.” Uldren snickered, and my anger boiled over. I spun around and, using my powers, pinned him to the wall.

“I don’t give a fuck who you are. Right now, you’re a thorn in my side, and I will remove you with whatever means necessary.”

“Oh, the Sparrow can fight back.”

My eyes narrowed, and I growled. “What the fuck did you call me?” 

“A sparrow. A small bird whose main purpose is to be a bird.” I dropped Uldren, and he dusted off his shoulders.

“You and your fucking birds. Weirdo,” I shoved past him again, and he didn’t follow this time. 

I stayed clear of everyone till the next morning. I only came out of my room when I knew the coast was clear. I knew Mom would be overjoyed that I got my wings clipped, while Jolyon would pity me. I didn’t need either. 

I arrived early at the training ring. Not really sure what I was getting into. I’d never seen a recruit before. Most of the time, I worked alone or partnered with a Corsair that was equal to me. These newbies would be nowhere near where I want them. So, I decided the best way to determine what to teach them would be to see where they stand. I got a bunch of different weapons out and prepared a small area for one-on-one combat. From there, I should be able to get what I was asked to do.

Let's see let's see what I can dig up... I'm not including the one out for submission, but I got original stuff other than it. Also these aren't necessarily going to be in chronological order, they're gonna be what I remember writing (and not Tumblr ficlet stuff, since the full thing is right here anyways).

We're gonna cut it there cuz that last one was reaching back to 2019.

Patterns:

I feel like these are all either really zoomed in or really zoomed out. It slaps one detail down on the table and maybe that detail is immediately about the characters or it's like the first shot of a movie where they're establishing the setting. Big, panning all around, the main character(s) not yet in sight.

Judging from like, Lighthouse Birb, BORHV, and A Puzzle of Myselves, I used to lean more into description, and that's been pared down in more recent works like OFAA, Candles at Night, or Merciful Steel. It's not all the way gone, I see touches of it in the Eramis/Athrys fic and No Winter Could Compare. I think part of it is like, a lot of the more recent stuff is short stories? Except for OFAA and Merciful Steel. APoM was also a short, but Lighthouse Birb and BORHV are/were longer. And, thinking of, I reused the same sort of concept for APoM as the story out for submission...

I think I also tend towards this one bit of advice I saw once, which was to introduce a question in the first line. Sometimes it's who is doing this - who is breathing raggedly, who is saying "Oh no?" That or why - why is Mithrax singing? Why is Sjur now an Eliksni babysitter? Or there's a what or two - what is it that wasn't foretold by doomsayers? What is fifty years and its difference from binary's "even" numbers about?

I kind of want to pull the descriptiveness back into my more recent stuff. That'd be fun.
