So you asked in tags, but I figured I'd send you an ask with my answer. I have so many polypap HCs. I'll try not to get too long and make things messy on you but...

Primarily I polyship Edge/Stretch/Mutt, but adding Rus in to make it a quad is also a thing for me. No matter trio or quad, Edge is the food giver, he will memorize everyones favorite foods and any hard dislikes and make sure that every meal is at least likeable for them all, he makes sure there is ready to heat and eat food for Mutt and Stretch so that even when they are struggling to get moving they can still eat. Rus is the mother hen though, if anyone sniffles, coughs or shivers he is there in a moment, figuring out what's wrong and supplying all the right things (hot tea or soup or blankets fresh from the dryer). Mutt is the most shy/reserved, even in a poly, he flusters easily and he is so in awe that these amazing people all love him... but at the same time he is the best at reassuring the others, no matter if it's self doubt, having been told off or just feeling the blues, he will find them and talk them through it. Stretch is often the glue, most the time he's just around, being happy and funny, or sharing down days with Mutt, but when things get rough in the poly, he is the one who holds things together, he'll talk to everyone and work out what happened, or remind them of the good things, even just give them a safe place to vent about another so they can feel better.

Also, cute little HC I have of early poly days on the surface, all four of them love spicy foods, but different kinds of spicy. So they would take turns finding restaurants and they'd go together, getting spicy dishes and trying each others, sometimes to hilarious results (Stretch, who likes a lot of asian spicy foods, getting overwhelmed by some ghost pepper dish Edge, for example). It was a good time to go out together without their brothers and just... enjoy company.

Very incredibly sweet, I definitely feel they'd all bring smth special that would help each other balance out, though it's funny you specifically identify Stretch as "the glue" and the mediator because that is the exact same "role" he plays in esh ahdjjfjsjdj

I hope it's okay if I share a few thoughts of my own, but you can also just feel free to ignore this, and I'd be happy to hear some more hc for any pair/poly stuff if you'd like to share!

I'd mentioned in the tags that Stretch and Edge would be "the ride or dies" even amongst them, and like, obviously they'd all have unique relationships to each other, but since I hc them as all being some variant of aroaspec, there's definitely a bit of a learning curve for all of them, bc they all wind up kind of...jealous of the relationships they have independently?

Like, I've always been fond of Rus and Edge having a very best friend type of closeness, and Rus and Stretch having a more silly, playful relationship. So Rus seeing how romantic and sweet him and Stretch are, it kind of grates on him a bit, he doesn't understand why Edge isn't flustered like that with him, or why Stretch isn't so tender with him.

Conversely, Edge sees the way Stretch feels more openly cheeky and in tune with Rus, and Rus is more bratty and sort of doting on Stretch in a way he isn't with Edge, and wonders if they feel more at ease with each other, what he’s doing wrong.

Like that one meme of the four people in the square all looking interested in the person in front of them, unaware of the person behind them interested in them, except instead of unrequited feelings, they have to realize that actually, it's okay to have different relationships between each other.

Maybe Stretch and Pup can make each other each other laugh more than Rus and Edge can. Maybe Edge and Rus can keep up with each other in ways Stretch and Pup can't. Maybe Edge and Pup can sympathize with each other over things Stretch and Rus don't understand and never will. Maybe Pup and Rus can comfort each other in ways Edge and Stretch can't. Maybe Stretch and Edge can help each other grow as partners better than Rus and Pup can encourage themselves.

And that can actually be good.

As they get more comfortable and reassured in their own dynamics, it definitely eases some of the friction I'm sure existed in the earlier days. Especially depending on how they all wound up together and who's known who longest etc etc

Hm this isn't a very fun hc.

Uh Edge bites all of them. It's how he shows affection. All of them will bite him back and he thinks it's great.

Pup is fantastically bad in the kitchen. He can do things even Rus wouldn't have thought possible. It's fine it's usually very funny.

Stretch likes to help when he can. He loves to linger nearby for any chores and do any little tasks the others ask of him, sometimes stealing kisses or providing a little easy conversation.

Rus is the bullshit preventer, for the most part. Maybe Stretch is the glue but Rus is the one who sees the beginning of drama and just goes uh uh. Nope. That's stupid, knock it off.

guide to makin cats from my fanclans (and also the wolf one)

ok some history. in my story there are 4 clans but only 3 of them are the descendants of the canon clans. the trip to the territory they're in now hurt the clans a lot and both for their own safety and because there wasn't enough territory, riverclan and windclan decided to become one.

because of a lot of stuff with the number of clans, starclan becomes more prominent (with more ghosts just visiting and regular cats dreaming about it) for a while until badgerclan and wolftribe move in, where it becomes a hivemind. i will write about that another time because it affects a lot of stuff but its too much to write here. this is a guide for living cats

dustclan

they're the descendants of shadowclan, but don't really act like it. dustclan cats live and hunt in a cave system in a mountain, and can't hunt in the forest despite living very close to it because of their proximity to wolftribe camp. there's not much life on the mountain so they're forced to hunt in the cave, which still doesn't have much food so they're pretty much always starving. rabies outbreaks are also common...

dustclan cats are smaller and thinner so they can fit in the little crevices in the cave. they're also generally lighter colors, though darker colored cats (such as the medicine cat) are not allowed very far into the cave, since they would be harder to find.

the leader, olmstar, is a lean white cat. she was born blind in one eye, but lost the other to a cave in. she wears a moonstone in her empty socket, giving her a very strong connection to starclan.

dustclan brings gems and cave animals to the collective knowledge of all the clans, often naming their cats after them. exmples are diamondpaw, beetlestone, amberheart and batpaw.

woodclan

woodclan cats are the descendants of thunderclan, but they act more like shadowclan cats do in canon. this is because they've been hardened by sharing their territory with wolftribe and constantly live in fear. they're very strict and drill their rules into their kits from birth. they're very good climbers because they live IN the trees. kits are often raised in abandoned burrows below the camp to make sure they don't fall out of trees.

woodclan cats are very bulky, with especially large paws. they tend to be browns, blacks and even greens, and decoate their pelts and nests with flowers.

the leader is a large brown tabby named daisystar. he acts angry and strict, but he's actually a very paranoid cat. he spends a lot of time outside the clan negotiating with wolftribe.

woodclan adds the names of plants and especially flowers to the name pool, like chivekit, fernpelt, mapleblossom, tansydust and fruitpaw.

shellclan

the collective descendants of riverclan and windclan, shellclan lives in a beached shipwreck and hunt in the pacific ocean. they're very medically advanced, as one of their medicine cats discovered amputations and prosthetics.

shellclan cats are also big, with very thick fur to keep themselves warm in the cold water. they often don't bother to wash the salt out of their fur, so it's very matted. many shellclan cats are missing their tails, either docked preventatively or lost in accidents in underwater shipwrecks and caves.

the leader, rowstar, is a big grey tabby, and is very friendly with the other leaders. scratchdash got the idea of prosthetics from the twoleg concept of pirates, and rowstar, after losing her leg in a cave, volunteered to test it. he succeeded, and now she has a jagged stone replacing one of her legs.

shellclan mostly brings ocean and beach creatures to the collective knowledge, with names like heronpaw, blueswan, kelpfur and angelpaw

badgerclan

long before the other clans had a policy of letting in outsiders, badgerclan was formed from kittypets and loners who weren't allowed to join the clans. they live in an abandoned twoleg farm, taking care of the animals the twolegs left: jimmy the horse, and three chickens; honeypie, lemoncake and cookiecream. they share their territory with stanley, a loner who lives in the other barn, as well as his "apprentices", maisy and percy.

badgerclan cats come in all shapes and sizes as they most regularly let in outsiders, and they're very healthy from the steady stream of eggs from the chickens and rats from the abandoned silo.

quailstar, a white and yellow cat, is also very friendly. they're much too young for the role, as the previous leader, foxtail, had been forced to retire shortly after appointing them as deputy, thinking he would still be leader for much longer.

all clans have a rule of letting in outsiders: you're welcome to join as long as you get rid of your old name to show your loyalty. badger clan has an exception to it; if you beat the deputy in battle, you're allowed to keep your old name as a badge of honor. that, along with the collective knowledge of more twoleg things, gives badgerclan cats a lot of variety in their names: emmet, pagepaw, charlie, snowbale and rocket

wolftribe

wolftribe is a comparitively small pack of wolves that made its camp in the part of woodclan territory that got ravaged by a forest fire, though they hunt in the rest of the forest.

they have a president (re-elected every two years), a second in command, and a doctor. there isn't a word for a warrior.

wolves value intelligence, so their naming system reflects that. you're name as a wolf is the most of something you've counted at a time. some items are more impressive than others. for example, the president's name, 15 rabbits, signals that they're more powerful than another wolf, 32 pebbles.

they have a peace treaty with woodclan (don't bother us and we'll leave enough food for you) and send a wolf to every gathering to renew it, and also in an attempt to socialize with the rest of the clans. despite being very different to the clans socially, they generally want to be friends.

Summary: A brief look into how Papyrus deals with Slim (SF Papyrus) being hurt.

Warnings: offscreen minor character death, major character injury, PTSD, general angst (but some comfort in the end)

Papyrus hummed along with the radio, the bright tune cheering him up slightly. He swirled around the water in the bowl, then dumped it into the sink. The soap and other substances were quickly sucked into the drain, and Papyrus surveyed the inside of the bowl critically. Hm, it seemed like the third wash had done the job. Papyrus carefully put the bowl into the dish rack, setting it away from the breakfast dishes.

He took his rubber gloves off, and washed his hands again. The soap foamed over his phalanges, a few bubbles dripping down his ulna. Papyrus usually preferred to keep his gloves on and contain the mess of cleaning, but today he was glad for it. He decided to wash his arms all the way up to the elbow, then let the water run over them.

His pearly white bones seemed to glow in the halo of the warm kitchen light. Papyrus turned his hands over, examining his long, unbroken fingers critically. He sighed, shaking his hands off in the sink to keep from dripping water on the counter, and then reached for the hand towel.

“I’m sorry.” Slim mumbled, his voice even quieter than usual. He was slouched in one of Papyrus’ chairs, his face turned towards the floor.

His hoodie was still covered in a mixture of blood and dust, but he’d flinched when Papyrus had tried to remove it. It was bothering Papyrus, but he tried not to let it show. After all, he could always clean the chair after Slim left, or even convince Sans to just scavenge a new one. Slim was more important than his furniture.

“Don’t worry, it’s alright!” Papyrus’ voice was boisterous as usual, but he moved slower.

He telegraphed his motions exaggeratedly as he stepped closer to Slim, and pulled out the kitchen chair across from him. Slim hadn’t been too jumpy to let Papyrus touch him earlier, but still, it was better to be safe and keep Slim from accidentally lashing out. Papyrus had gotten better at that after meeting the ‘fell monsters, but according to Edge, he still sometimes ‘moved aggressively.’

Papyrus reached out, and began putting the supplies back into his first aid kit. Slim had insisted that he use scraps of his own shirt as bandages, so Papyrus had only really needed the gauze and disinfectant. After all, it was impossible to stitch bones back together.

Luckily, Slim didn’t seem to need a healer. He had some worryingly deep gashes on his right radius, but that was the worst injury. He didn’t deign to share any details of his fight with Papyrus, aside from saying that he had ended it, and his brother had insisted that he come here, since their own medical supplies were running low. Well, Papyrus was always happy to share with his neighbours, especially Slim. Papyrus freely admitted to his bias towards the lovely skeleton now that they were dating, and he did so frequently.

“You… you aren’t mad?” Slim was still looking at him with caution, and it made Papyrus feel worse than seeing  than seeing him covered in dust. Did he really not trust Papyrus with this?

“No, why is that so hard for you to believe?” Papyrus felt his smile twitch as Slim flinched, and he realized that his voice had been too loud. He folded his hands in his lap, took a deep breath, and tried again. “Slim, I know that I am a bit… off today, but I promise that I am not upset at you. I know we don’t come from similar universes, and that things like this will happen sometimes. I will always be slightly upset to know that you got injured like this, but you came to me to get fixed up! That’s good! I’ve given people worse wounds in training exercises, and then taken them to the healer right after.” Papyrus reached out, leaving his hand open and palm-up on the table. “I just want to help however I can. So tell me, what do you want me to do?”

“Can we go lie down? My head is killing me,” Slim said. His eyelights were looking a bit hazier than usual, Papyrus had noticed that while he tended to a bruise on Slim’s cheekbone.

Slim reached out and patted Papyrus’ hand, but didn’t try to hold on to it. Papyrus withdrew his hand, understanding the silent gesture. He had gotten better at reading Slim’s body language, and he knew when Slim didn’t want to be touched.

“Of course. Just don’t tell my brother I took a lazy day, he’ll never let me live it down.” Papyrus winked, and to his relief, Slim gave him a smile back. It was small, but it was a start. “Also, you’re staying for dinner. You can invite your brother too if you want, but I’m not letting you go back home without some good, healing pasta in you.”

“That sounds fine.”

“Alright, then let’s go! Here, I’ll get some extra pillows for my bed. You take your time coming up.” Papyrus blew Slim a kiss, then headed out of the room.

He tried to keep his steps quiet, but his boots still thumped on the floor. Well, if Slim lived with Black then he was probably used to it. Papyrus just had to be the best provider he could to make up for it. He’d consult with his brother and properly process his own emotions later. For now, Slim needed a stable partner, and Papyrus was happy to be that.

(Starting a new post so that one doesn't get too long but also wanted to include links so I couldn't send an ask)

Honestly I feel like our hc of these guys overlap a LOT because I'd actually written out this whole thing last night inspired by rereading old conversations abt TrVF, I just posted it so I could link back to it here, but major same hat on Stretch tending to keep stuff to himself, esp about things he worries could either change the way others perceive him or hurt them, too.

It antagonizes him so much how "easily affected" he is by things that happened years ago, he hates the past weighing him down (esp stuff that happened in childhood, like, god, he really should've grown out of this by now (his pov)). Esp when it comes to being with Fell boys, like, his problems were so "insignificant" compared to theirs, why is he so weak that they still cause issues for him well after "overcoming" them?

I've also always preferred "reset memories" to generally be less straightforward and almost more dreamlike, or remembering specific feelings or odd little things here or there, but I actually hc all the Papyri remember! Some better than others, due in part to my hcs on Gaster and whatnot but I will NOT get into that rn or this would be a novel lol, but the hc of Stretch hiding it and also feeling badly for keeping secrets and the others just really being there for him is so so sweet ough 😔🥺

And also SAME about the love notes AUGH. Edge is just too sappy. Except I can't not make it angsty so I wanna share that one time discussing it, got the idea of something happening to him (either a sudden accident or succumbing to an illness) and Stretch and Al finding a few of the notes months or even years later. Absolutely devastating.

But yeah. You're so right about the growing together stuff. It's my absolute bread and butter, the gradual changes, how they really flourish as individuals and together because of love, I guess it's what really drew me to undertale in the first place, the emphasis on love and the forms it takes. Means so very much to me...

It's also easy to imagine Rus doing the matching sets thing, it's very cute!!! It's also easy to imagine the others both unintentionally and intentionally throwing a wrench in his plans by being married to their individual mugs or changing their outfit etc etc to playfully tease him ahdhjsj

And the cleaning thing. I've never really liked the idea of the swap papyri being slobs just because they're swapped, I really feel like they generally prefer neater spaces too, and have their own cleanliness habits, but sometimes the depression or (possible) chronic health problems get in the way. It's so cute to imagine them overcoming that as best they can for the usual homemakers of the relationship 🥺 even if it can get chaotic at times abdjjfjajs
