Okay so I had this idea, what if Palpatine's plan completely backfired on him. The jedi love their clones so much that they refuse to actually fight the separatists XD they just always try to solve everything with as little bloodshed as possible and always try to negotiate and reason with separatist no matter how sticky the situation is.

I had this scene in mind where a separatist is threatening Anakin or Obi-Wan and they look at their men and respond with "how about peace?" "NO?" "We can negotiate" "violence is never the answer" no matter how hard the enemy tries to press them into using violence. Basically they do succeed most of the times at negotiating with them. The jedi are taught how to persuade anyone and in using violence as an absolute last resort for solving a problem. Their love for the clones saves the galaxy.

good question!!! It’s not out of spite, it’s more like….out of protectiveness

When the handler goes to the victors and asks that one of them pick between the two names she accidentally drew, Anakin knows that Obi-wan will a) not look away/back down from doing this and he will not pass the weight of the decision to one of the other victors. But he also knows b) that obi-wan will be devastated by choosing. He’ll feel guilty as hell for the rest of his life because he personally chose the boy’s name. He isn’t just a forced participant in the Games or a forced spectator anymore, for that kid he would be dooming him to die (/maybe to become a Victor but those odds aren’t good) and Anakin knows that Obi-Wan wouldn’t be able to bear it, that it would make his infinite sadness get wayyyyyy more infinite etc etc

so there’s only one thing he can do which is to volunteer - obi-wan chose one of the names the handler presented to him and Anakin said “nvm you don’t get a choice, it’s going to be me and I’m making that choice”, trying to halve the guilt he’ll feel, trying to make it better and protect him

the hatred he feels towards obi-wan at the end is just like. Impotent rage at the situation. At that obi-wan couldn’t just let himself deny the handler, couldn’t let another victor choose one of the names. because he couldn’t, anakin is going into the arena. And that’s because anakin couldn’t just stand by and watch obi-wan take on more grief when he could step in

I'm so glad Unintended has brought you some joy! As far as am I still writing, the answer is a qualified yes. Yes in the sense of I definitely have not moved on from these two, and I am actively thinking about and working on Unintended as well as all my other obidala fic (was in fact doing it this morning). Qualified in the sense of I am a mom who works full-time and this particular season of life is demanding a lot of me, which is leaving less energy and time for my creative pursuits, so the progress is slow. But I am still around.

The footman at the end of chapter 3 is actually my wink and a nod to Jar Jar. I tend to seed my AUs with lots of little references to canon throughout so expect more of that.

I obviously empathize with your preference for the quiet hero. I am very much of the Colonel Brandon, Captain Wentworth, Professor Bhaer camp. Unfortunately, they are not a common kind of romantic hero (I honestly don't know why), so I don't have a lot to offer on that front, hence the fic writing.
