Ok so! I'm the person who said much sadness for not being able to send you rare words from rare languages anymore.
And it's extra painful as a fellow linguistics student.
(part of me is thinking right now that a tournament of unknown words or words from small languages would be pretty neat, but anyway i don't have time for organising stuff unfortunately)
So the language I'm currently obsessed with due to it being my focus throughout a lot of structural courses (AKA it was assigned to me and I grew attached) is Vaeakau-Taumako, which is an Oceanic language spoken by ~1800 people in Solomon Islands (oh I have this intro memorised lmao) and while its phonology is quite simple (though it does have the biggest consonant inventory of that language family, and aspirated consonants!!), its syntax is... So fucked up. Pain and suffering. And yes obviously right now I chose to do a project on more syntax in it.
A very nice, if short word is kovaa (no energy to look for symbol for long vowel in IPA now) which means heron. I am very biased in favour on all bird-related words.
thanumia (where h is the aspiration) means 'to bury' and i just love how softly it rolls of your tongue especially when you combine it with the rather sad meaning
V-T is also one of those languages that have still only one word for blue and green, which is very neat and that word is ['wiwi]
A very specific phrase which I love due to the specificness is 'huatoo oho' (though it's often realised as one [huatoho]) which means 'paddle out to the sea' <3
And they also have reduplication! It can be partial or full, and well it's used for a lot of things but one of them is to express the plurality of the object in a transitive sentence (VT has both accusative and ergative traits isn't it great and cool and messed up <3), but it can also show that something takes place over a longer period of time!
So 'ahangia' (ng is a velar nasal) is 'to open' but 'ahahangia' is 'to open gradually' and it's cool and amazing. Same with 'apihia' and 'apipihia' for 'to close'
And some words (often animal names, but not always and not all of animal names) look like they're made by reduplication but there's no non-reduplicated form in VT so 'lingolingo' (again, ng - velar nasal) is a grasshopper or a similar insect. Maimai is dolphin, manumanu is bird or any animal in general and mongamonga (same, ng - velar) is a cockroach.
It's such a cool language spoken by so few people with only one proper grammar about it (which, granted, is more than most languages have, but still) and ye, just wanted to ramble a lil bit :>
Thank you for sharing, this makes me so happy to read! So many neat features! I really like reduplication and those are nice words! I don't really have much intelligent commentary, just a brain going 'cool language!!!'

The colonial administration then banned trading trips as such. The last of such trading trips was in the late 1950’s where a Lagatoi sank just off the coast of Boera village. Lives are often lost also during these trips. The return trips are usually arduous and dangerous as the wet winds brings with it storms. As a result of this long period of time away from home, it causes uncertainty back home – resulting in wives and partners of crew members re-marrying. The actual trade would take only a few days however the return trip usually took place after 2 to 3 months.ĭuring this long wait repairs are done on the canoes and relationships are strengthened among the traders. Return trips brought a bountiful of sago to last throughout this drought. This trip and subsequent trips were necessary because during these times there was usually drought along the Motuan coastline. With this inspiration, he and his henchman built a lagatoi (double hulled canoe) and made the first trip to the Gulf coastline. Siabo was said to be inspired by a sea spirit after a fishing trip. These winds are called the “Laurabada winds”.Īccording to oral history, the first sailing trip was led by an Edai Siabo of Boera village. After the trade, they returned when the winds changed eastwards. The Motuan (men) sailed westwards during the south-easterly winds known locally as the “Lahara winds”. This is a form of barter trade where the Motuans traded clay pots for sago with villagers along the Gulf coastline. The Hiri Trade expedition was between the Motuan and the Erema (Gulf) people in the Gulf of Papua. See their pictures below courtesy of Loop PNG. In third place and taking the Miss Hetura for 2016 was Maha Asi from Tubuserea village. In 2016, Olive Tau was crowned as 2016 Miss Hiri Hanenamo Queen followed by her Runner- up Boni Bitu from Porebada village. I enjoy this contest and the festival itself and am very proud of the Motuans for continuing to reinforce their heritage to their young women. Above is my own interpretation of the queen. The contest is run to coincide with the PNG Independence celebrations. Sunday is devoted to cultural performances and the crowning of the 2021 Hiri Hanenamo.įellow corporate sponsors of the Festival include Exxon Mobil PNG, Digicel, Trukai, PNG Air, Amazing Port Moresby, House of Gemini, Moni Plus, Black Swan International, and Pacific Industries. The crowning of the Hiri Hanenamo Queen is an annual event in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. This is a two-part program, with races in the first half of the program and the arrival of the lagatoi in the second half of the program. Saturday is dedicated to the Trukai Vanagi Races at Era Kone. It is a three-day festival that commences on Friday, with a Sponsors Night to officially open the Festival. This was part of their Speech Craft program, teaching the young ladies about public speaking.įigHanenamos: LR Manumanu – Nana Pake, Gaire - Asi Kamuta, Tatana - Kaiya Jones, Elevala - Guba Hitolo, Mahuru - Maggie Geita, Pari - Raila English, Boera - Madaha Kevau, Tatana - Pauline Okitai, Gabagaba - Noeleen Nouairi, Hanuabada - Andrea Taraka They had the opportunity to introduce themselves and speak a little about where they are from and their motivations to participate in the Hiri Hanenamo Quest. Serah Vani, the reigning Hiri Queen, and the 10 contesting Hanenamos were present, along with members of the Motu Koita Assembly and the Hiri Moale Festival Committee. The sponsorship goes towards cultural performers, the construction of the Coral Sea Hotels Cultural Performance Arena, and designated catering.įigHiri Hanenamo Contestants, Reigning Hiri Queen Sera Vani, Steamships MD Rupert Bray, and MKA Chairman Dadi Toka Jnr Managing Director, Mr Rupert Bray, announced the sponsorship at a cheque presentation to Motu Koita Assembly Chairman, Dadi Toka Jnr, at Ela Beach Hotel on Wednesday, January 26, 2021. Steamships reaffirmed its support for the Hiri Moale Festival, returning as lead Gold Sponsor with sponsorship valued at K100,000. Our 2017 Top 20 Images on Facebook
Despite the improvement in global economy, 2017 was an unsettling year filled with unpleasant events. Between President Donald Trump, and catastrophic hurricanes wrecking homes and livelihoods, as well as high-profile sexual harassment…. It’s been a heavy year. However, I believe 2017 brought more triumph than tragedy within the realm of street-art. The developer of NYC’s iconic graffiti site, 5…

Beep boop manumanu mun here with a lil unfriendly PSA ! If you are a blog/continuously cater to a blog that starts needless OOC drama in ANY fandom, and I’m aware of you, I will block your blog and refuse any/all interaction. I understand I followed some R6 writers who incidentally follow a known attention seeker in a myriad of fandoms, and I was subsequently blocked by them for no reason other than their self-induced drama. I never interacted with these people prior to being blocked, so I’m assuming it was simply by proxy? Or out of anxiety? I have no idea.  If you think that rping is some kind of status game or race to get x amount of followers, not only are you wasting my time, but you’re wasting other writers time. If you expect people to bend to your OOC drama, guess what? You’re an asshole. Assuming most of you people are adults, you should know better than that.  I’m here to have fun, and write some cool stuff, not deal with immature idiots who spend too much time fucking off behind a computer screen for clout. All of the folks who follow me for the sake of writing, thank you and power to you! You’re who I’m happy to be here for.  My discord is available for any of my mutuals who want to plot or get access to me ooc faster, and please don’t hesitate to shoot me a dm even if we haven’t interacted before! I don’t do drama, and I do rp wayyyy more R6 characters than just Manu! <3
