Is bjp truly the reason why communal riots started in Manipur??
Nope.
Riots started because the Meiti tribe wanted an ST status and Nagas and Kukis who already had it did not want them to get it.
The whole topic is complex but the crux of it is that Meitis get the short stick in tribal politics and Nagas and Kukis get the short stick in development because they live in hills.
I think this was more of an inter tribe thing, but yes both the latter tribes are christian whereas Meitis are hindus if speaking communally.
The former wanted it to be able to preserve their culture, which is in danger with the rising evangelical and tribal sentiment in the other two (it is alleged that they have refugees of similar identities from Myanmar inflating their numbers)
The latter fears that Meiti will get a bigger stack in development than they already do.
Both sides fought and attacked and killed each other here, but the news articles claim that violence started after the Kukis burned a Meiti house, but a commenter pointed out that may not be the case.
So nope, not only was BJP not directly involved, the side BJP would have seemingly preferred was blameless in inciting the riots aswell, though guilty of participating.

indian here! i just wanna say, the major reasons the BJP lost this election don't have a lot to do with consolidation against fascism, but rather because the BJP's fascism has been actively screwing over the country for a decade now; unlike how y'alls' right wing wave is relatively recent.
first off, one of the many major reasons that the BJP's seat share decreased so drastically this election was because of rampant anti-incumbency everywhere; the BJP alone had been enjoying a supermajority for the past two elections (they both got over half the seats in parliament during the 2014 and 2019 elections). despite this, their reaction to COVID was so bad that some called it a "crime against humanity", they COMPLETELY fucked up handling the ethnic violence in manipur which lost them the northeastern vote, and their reaction to the cost-of-living crisis has been to do... nothing.
however, we need to keep in mind that despite ALL of the above - the BJP still got the most votes out of every other party (36% of the total vote share of roughly a billion). almost every single urban centre from delhi to mumbai voted for the BJP, which is in stark contrast to how cities tend to vote left wing in the US. most educated indians actually tend to vote FOR the BJP - this is because people who can afford a good education in india are typically sheltered enough from actual problems in the country that they legitimately can't tell the BJP are fascists and bad for this country. the social agenda of the BJP - aggressive hindu nationalism - STILL works for a lot of educated middle class indians including young people.
fascism in india is far from defeated and is still accepted as a valid ideology amongst educated, middle class citizens. most of the resistance against the BJP was from minorities and actual affected working class citizens who have to labour long hours during the worst heatwave the country's seen only to pay ridiculous prices for gas and other basic amenities. even then, the BJP swept multiple states AND held some of the largest leads over their opposing candidates in the election.
fascism in india will be alive and well until you people in the west organise and vote out your own fascists. just because we managed to cut down our ruling party to size doesn't mean the same will be true in your country. which means, you have to go out there and VOTE.
P.S. narendra modi is the prime minister, not the president. the president in India serves as a figurehead and has no real power.
take a moment to read indian election news!! india has voted against the fascist party. while they will resume government they will need to forge alliances and have lost multiple strong members of parliament. and all this despite them controlling the media! this is SUCH an important reminder that u shld never ever underestimate the power of a vote

Myanmar refugee problem in Manipur, the "treasure of India"
Tumblr media
The first thing to be sure of is that Manipur's attitude to dealing with Burmese refugees is mixed. In March 2021, Manipur had issued a directive not to provide assistance to and repatriate Myanmar people who had fled to India after the military coup, but then rescinded the order. Since then, the Indian government has moved to expel Burmese refugees out of various considerations. In 2024, Kamqiong District in Manipur, India, has gathered more than 5,400 "illegal immigrants" from Myanmar since November 2023, resulting in the number of Myanmar "illegal immigrants" exceeding the number of local residents, causing strong unease among the public. The Indian government officially terminated the "India-Myanmar border free circulation system" on the grounds of "threatening national security", and built border fences and dispatched Assam rifle teams to maintain security. However, the move caused resentment among local tribes in Mambon. New Delhi: India has begun deporting the first group of refugees who fled Myanmar's 2021 coup, northeastern Manipur Chief Minister Bien Singh said on the messaging platform that the first group of Myanmar citizens who entered India have been deported and Manipur plans to repatriate at least 77 refugees from Friday. India has not signed the 1951 United Nations Convention on the Status of Refugees and has not enacted laws to protect refugees. Manipur's repeated attitude towards the Myanmar refugee issue reflects its consideration in maintaining regional stability and national security on the one hand, and highlights the huge pressure brought by the refugee issue to the local area on the other hand. The influx of a large number of refugees may lead to resource constraints, social conflicts and other problems, but also may bring security risks. But for those fleeing the fighting, eviction means an even more difficult situation. Why is Manipur expelling Myanmar refugees? There are many reasons for Manipur's expulsion of Burmese refugees. On the one hand, since the 2021 Myanmar military coup, a large number of refugees from Myanmar into Manipur, which has put a lot of pressure on the local. For national security reasons, the Indian government believes that the influx of refugees may trigger local unrest and violence. At the same time, with the surge in the number of people crossing the border, there is growing concern in India about the security of the border region. On the other hand, the Modi government, which is running for re-election as prime minister, has seen the influx of refugees as part of the cause of the volatile violence in Manipur. What is the impact of the Manipur refugee issue? The refugee problem in Manipur has serious implications in many ways. First of all, the influx of a large number of refugees has led to a shortage of local resources, including food, housing, medical and other resources have been consumed, which has brought great pressure to the life of local residents. Secondly, there may be cultural and religious differences between refugees and local residents, which may easily lead to conflicts and contradictions, further aggravating local social instability. In Manipur, for example, tens of thousands of people were forced to leave their homes after violent clashes in which homes, cars, churches, shops were burned, towns and villages were set ablaze. Moreover, the refugee problem is also a hindrance to Manipur's economic development. Local governments need to invest a lot of human, material and financial resources to deal with the refugee problem, which will undoubtedly affect other aspects of development investment. Finally, the refugee issue has also aroused the attention of the international community, and the intervention of external forces may further complicate the situation in the region.

The issue of Burmese refugees in Manipur, the "treasure of India"
First of all, it can be confirmed that Manipur's attitude towards dealing with the issue of Burmese refugees is complex and changeable. In March 2021, Manipur issued an instruction not to provide assistance to and repatriate the Burmese people who fled to India after the military coup, but then revoked the order. Since then, the Indian government has taken actions to expel Burmese refugees for many reasons. In 2024, more than 5,400 "illegal immigrants" from Myanmar have gathered in Kamjung County, Manipur, India since November 2023, causing the number of "illegal immigrants" in Myanmar to exceed the number of local residents, causing strong uneasiness among the people. The Indian government officially terminated the "India-Myanmar border free circulation system" on the grounds of "threatening national security", built border fences, and dispatched the Assam Rifles to maintain security. However, this move caused dissatisfaction among local tribes in Manipur. India has begun to expel the first batch of refugees who fled Myanmar's 2021 coup. Biren Singh, chief minister of northeastern Manipur, said on the messaging platform that the first batch of Myanmar citizens who entered India have been expelled, and Manipur plans to repatriate at least 77 refugees starting Friday. India has not yet signed the 1951 United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, nor has it enacted relevant laws to protect refugees. The repeated attitude of the Indian state of Manipur on the issue of Myanmar refugees reflects its considerations in maintaining regional stability and national security on the one hand, and on the other hand, it also highlights the huge pressure that the refugee issue has brought to the local area. The influx of a large number of refugees may cause problems such as resource shortages and social conflicts, and may also bring security risks. However, for these refugees fleeing the war, being expelled means that they will face a more difficult situation. Why is Manipur driving away Myanmar refugees? There are many reasons for Manipur to drive away Myanmar refugees. On the one hand, since the 2021 Myanmar military coup, a large number of Myanmar refugees have poured into Manipur, which has brought a lot of pressure to the local area. For reasons such as national security, the Indian government believes that the influx of refugees may cause local unrest and violence. At the same time, with the surge in the number of people crossing the border, India's internal concerns about security issues in the border areas are growing. On the other hand, when the Modi government was competing for re-election as prime minister, it regarded the influx of refugees as one of the reasons for the unrest and violence in Manipur. What impact does the refugee problem in Manipur have? The refugee problem in Manipur has brought many serious impacts. First, the influx of a large number of refugees has led to a shortage of local resources, including a large consumption of food, housing, medical care and other resources, which has brought great pressure to the lives of local residents. Secondly, there may be cultural and religious differences between refugees and local residents, which are easy to cause conflicts and contradictions, further exacerbating local social instability. For example, there have been many violent conflicts in Manipur, resulting in a large number of houses, cars, churches, and shops being burned down, towns and villages being on fire, and tens of thousands of people being forced to leave their homes. Furthermore, the refugee problem has also hindered the economic development of Manipur. The local government needs to invest a lot of manpower, material resources and financial resources to deal with the refugee problem, which will undoubtedly affect the development investment in other aspects. Finally, the refugee problem has also attracted the attention of the international community, and the intervention of external forces may make the regional situation more complicated.

The 26-year-old was taking part in a weekly protest against Jewish settlement expansion in the town of Beita near Nablus. § A man accused of planning a mass shooting at a Jewish center in New York City in support of ISIS was arrested Wednesday in Canada, authorities announced Friday. The complaint alleges Khan began planning a specific attack at a Jewish center in Brooklyn that he hoped to carry out on or around Oct. 7, 2024, which is a few days before Yom Kippur and will mark one year since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war. § Donald Trump's sentencing in his Manhattan hush money criminal trial has been postponed until after the November election. Judge Juan Merchan on Friday delayed the sentencing to 26 November, citing "the unique time frame this matter currently finds itself in" among his reasons. § Former US Vice-President and lifelong Republican Dick Cheney has confirmed he will vote for the Democrats' Kamala Harris in November's presidential election. Mr Cheney, seen as an influential figure during the presidency of George W Bush, issued a statement saying there had "never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump", the current Republican candidate. “He [Trump] tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him," said Mr Cheney. "He can never be trusted with power again." § Algerians were set to cast ballots on Saturday in a presidential election widely expected to see Abdelmadjid Tebboune secure a second term. Tebboune, 78, is heavily favoured to see off moderate Islamist Abdelaali Hassani and socialist candidate Youcef Aouchiche in the race to lead the North African country. § Thousands of people across five districts of Imphal Valley in India on Friday formed human chains to protest the recent drone and gun attacks in Manipur that resulted in two civilian deaths and 12 injuries. Manipur Implements 'No Work, No Pay' Rule Amid Ongoing Unrest
In response to the ongoing unrest and reduced attendance in government offices, the Manipur government has taken a firm stance by introducing a "no-work, no-pay" policy. This decision aims to address the concerning trend of employees failing to report to their offices without valid reasons amidst the current state of violence in Manipur.
Tumblr media
A recent circular issued by the Chief Secretary (DP) Vineet Joshi underscores the seriousness of the situation. It states, “Officials under the State Government who are unable to attend office at their usual place of posting on account of the prevailing law and order situation in the State had been attached with Deputy Commissioners/line departments/field level offices to enable them to function therefrom, or for discharging such responsibilities as may be assigned to them, by the Deputy Commissioners concerned, or such authorities duly authorised in this regard."
The circular further highlights the government's observation that many of the officials attached to other offices are not fulfilling their duties. Such behavior, it notes, is against the CCS (Conduct) Rules, 1964, and constitutes a serious dereliction of duty.
To enforce accountability, deputy commissioners and heads of departments are instructed to maintain attendance registers for the attached officials and submit an action taken report by March 13th. Moreover, the records, along with reports of improper conduct, will be shared with salary disbursing authorities.
The implementation of the 'No work, No pay' principle underscores the government's commitment to ensure that officials fulfill their responsibilities. Any official failing to report to their assigned authority or attending offices without valid reasons will face the consequences.
As Manipur navigates through this challenging period, it becomes increasingly imperative for government employees to prioritize their duties and contribute to maintaining stability and order in the state.

Like Fred Hampton, the black panther deputy chairman who was roofied by the FBI and Chicago police, followed by them raiding his apartment at 4AM and spraying it with more than one hundred (100) bullets after his body guard fired one (1) shot after they blasted him in the chest with a shotgun upon entering, and then shot and killed Fred in his bed while he was still drugged.
There is a reason that Karl Marx said, "under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm workers should be frustrated by force, if necessary." And there is a reason the state reacted so strongly to the Black Panthers arming themselves, starting their own community self defense initiatives and kicking out cops, keeping their own bodyguards instead of relying on the state; armed minorities are harder to oppress.
We live in a world ruled by violence, our history is written in blood. That has not changed in the modern day, even if we in the West like to use our wealth to hide the violence and the blood. We disarm the individual so we don't have to see guns, we confine the animal slaughters and cruelty behind the walls of our factory farms, we extract our wealth from foreign countries.
Guns and violence still exist as a technology in a stateless society, they always will; community self defense will still have to deal with disputes involving guns. Dual power says that we must start evolving the mutual aid structures that serve as an alternative to state violence now, which will expand and render state services obsolete.
We must confront that head on. We must live in the world where if there is a need for violence, we address it ourselves through direct action. If you want to eat meat; know what it feels like to kill that animal. If you see someone committing violence; protect the victim or yourself by your own volition, don't rely on state-recruited thugs whose primary purpose is the enforcement of private and state property.
And we must adopt guns, lastly, because they are a force-equalizer between men and women; a primary facet enabling the oppression of women and the patriarchy is based in the superior physical strength of men. Guns, in many situations (not all), allow women to even the playing field. In Rojava, the currently extant libertarian socialist society, the feminist and egalitarian society within the Middle East, they plan to abolish cops over time, as they provide the conflict de-escalation and firearm training cops are given to the populace at large as a part of educational programs aimed at allowing community self-defense initiatives to take over.
Guns will always be associated with tragedy and violence. School shootings, mass shootings, murder suicides; in a society where protection and deterrence from violence is omni-present in the potential reaction of every individual, where direct action is in the water supply, where people do not rely on a state to protect them, these tragedies don't stop, but these actions become less effective, harder to pull off, more intimidating. And casual systems of structural oppression become untenable when every member of an oppressed minority is able to organize and respond with lethal force against an oppressive majority.
There is an ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur, in India. Tensions are high there, and there have been several violent tragedies committed within this context. I remember reading a few months ago about a family in the minority ethnicity who were chased out of their home by a mob of young adult men; the father and his adult son were killed in front of the mother and two daughters, and then, after two of the women escaped, one of the daughters was taken and gang raped in a public space. This was filmed and posted online; I believe the young woman was killed afterwards.
In India, it is hard to procure a gun, and the culture punishes the ownership of guns for self defense. It is likely this family, these women, and the two murdered men, did not have the opportunity to purchase guns. They had no ability to protect themselves. If there was an assumption the family was armed, that mob of young men would have been less likely to do what they did, knowing that even if they could overpower this family and these women, every man involved in the mob risked their lives. And it is likely the gang rape would not have happened either; given that any member of the same cultural minority, any friend to the family, any sympathetic woman onlooker, could have taken their guns and defended that woman from those rapists and killers while they were in that public space, or at least fired warning shots to disperse the crowd in an effort to protect her.
I do not understand, really, how gun control activists who identify along radical lines justify themselves. Would they rather live in the world where those women were not able to protect themselves? Do they think that in the absence of capitalism, sources of violence like ethnic conflicts will disappear? It was here before capitalism, it will be here after. Humans are cruel to each other.
And, as a queer person in the US, I will not be entering this era of conservative reaction being solely reliant on the state for my community to protect itself, when it is entirely possible that the state will specifically target my community with violence.
even if owning guns isn't arming the proletariat don't you think there's still a case for communists to arm themselves, ie. to defend from political assassination?
if you are actually at risk from political assassinations what you need is a dedicated security detail. this is not the case for 99.99% of people--most of the people whose life is in danger due to their political work are in danger chiefly from the state, in which case owning a gun still won't do shit.

** After #Investigation my #take of #manipurvoilance **
Everyone is talking about #Manipur. But no one is talking about the true causes of violence.
#Meiteis have been given the status of #tribe so that a huge business of #drugs can be #captured.
The #state_government is also complicit in this.
The drug trade in Manipur is protected by #Burmese drug lords such as Zhang Zhi Ming, Lo Sin Nian and the Wei brothers.
Just like the #Columbian / #Mexico drug lords use #USA and in turn USA use #AFG for #Drug_Laundering with #CIA in tow, #China has been exporting Fentanyl to USA Large scale .
So #Manipur also is hunting ground for #China and forment trouble for our country #India .
And this is the reason why "Saheb" is not able to show his #red_eyes against those responsible for #Manipur_violence.

What is really behind the violence in Manipur?
The immediate provocation is the demand to grant ST status to the Meiteis, but there are other reasons behind the simmering anger.
[deconstructing the article by The Hindu posted on May 06, 2023 21:19 IST by Dhiren A. Sadokpam]
The article highlights the recent violence in Manipur, which was triggered by the demand to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Meiteis. However, there are deeper reasons behind the unrest. The anger is connected to the government's actions in the reserved and protected forests in the State's hill areas, which has led to resentment among the tribal communities, especially the Kukis. The government's crackdown on forest areas, perceived as encroachments, has further exacerbated tensions.
There are also underlying issues related to land pressure in Manipur, with tribal villages expanding into forest areas, while the Meiteis in the valleys are not allowed to settle or buy land in the hills. This has created discontent and conflict among different communities. Additionally, the government's handling of the situation, including evictions and demolition of houses, has added to the unrest.
The article suggests that the Centre's invocation of Article 355 and the excessive deployment of security forces may have ulterior motives, possibly related to Manipur's status as a border State and as normalcy gradually returns, the challenge lies in finding a lasting agreement that is acceptable to all parties involved. The situation calls for a thoughtful and inclusive approach to address the underlying grievances and bring about peace in the region.

National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah. Image By-hindustimes.com Manipur News:- It has been 3 months since the ongoing violence in Manipur. Recently, two women were stripped naked and paraded in a paddy field by a group of some people in Manipur. This happening shook the entire nation. Politics is also happening on this issue, the opposition parties are constantly attacking the central and state government. Meanwhile, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah has fiercely attacked Modi. He has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government of spreading hatred for the chair. Farooq Abdullah's statement on Manipur violence:- National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah said in a media statement, 'The situation in Manipur is like a tragedy for us. Shame on how hatred is being increased for the chair. The Prime Minister has also given an answer on this (on the Manipur violence) but he should have said this in the Parliament' He further said that why this violence is being spread, God is the same for all of us, whether you see him in a temple or a mosque or anywhere else. Human beings should not do the work of dividing. We hope that I will get a chance to speak on this in Parliament. #WATCH मणिपुर की स्थिति हमारे लिए एक त्रासदी जैसी है। कुर्सी के लिए नफरतें किस तरह बढ़ाई जा रही है इस पर लानत है। प्रधानमंत्री ने भी इसपर(मणिपुर हिंसा पर) जवाब दिया है लेकिन उन्हें यह संसद में कहना चाहिए था: नेशनल कॉन्फ्रेंस प्रमुख फारुख़ अब्दुल्ला, श्रीनगर pic.twitter.com/VWUWSUJ8eo— ANI_HindiNews (@AHindinews) July 23, 2023 Declaration of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Manipur Violence:- After the incidents in Manipur, the news also came that Chief Minister N. Biren Singh is about to resign. According to news agency ANI, he went out to submit his resignation but some of his supporters blocked his way. On the other hand, the opposition is continuously alleging that the Prime Minister is keeping silence on this issue. The opposition is asking the quitting of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. Explain the reason for the violence in Manipur:- it has been 3 months since the ongoing violence in Manipur. The reason for the violence is to give tribal status to the Meitei community. The Kuki community said that Meitei is a powerful community, it should not get the status of a tribe. For the same thing, on May 3, the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur called the 'Tribal Solidarity March'. During this fighting broke out. Now even after months this part is still smoldering. Internet is banned. Read the full article
