So uhh yesterday I had a debate with one of my friends. We were talking about the exit polls and the elections. He's a bjp supporter, I am Congress supporter. I said that to the common man, it doesn't matter which party win, we're still gonna suffer cuz both parties are corrupt. He started saying that BJP isn't corrupt and it's doing so much good for our country. I called bs on this. Brought up Manipur, agniveer, unemployment in UP and MaHa and how the industries are being shifted to gujrat, how poverty increased, the farmer's protests, Kerala MLA's kid, Ramkrishna cafe attack, mujra and mangalsutra too. He didn't respond to any of these, said I've been fooled by the media, that the opposition is brainwashing me. He tried mansplaining too, saying how he wants to help me get better and be educated cuz I'm uneducated rn. How he wants me to be humbled. I also brought up hindutva, how I am deeply terrified of having to leave my country if hindu rashtra is established cuz I am a minority religion. He said I should be grateful that I get privileges (minority religions don't get privileges, castes do btw). He also stated that bjp is doing good for Indian brotherhood and oneness. The irony.
Just thought I'd share this here lmao. Avg bjp antics

Is India really going to be renamed as 'Bharat'?
Aah you are gonna get me banned from here and red listed by the Indian govt 😭😭😭 buckle up, this will be a long one
So, bharat is already a name for the country. It's the Indian hindi name. So the constitutions Article 1 says 'India that is Bharat shall be a union of states.....' so it's already a name.
Now the government seemingly had no problems with the name ' India' before this month really. Infact in 2016 some conservative nationalist had gone to the Supreme Court petioning that we need to change the name since 'India's a foreign name, colonial etc etc' and back then, the same government had said no need to change it, it's the choice of the people. You wanna call it India you can, or if you wanna call it Bharat you can.
Now it's just rumors at this point but the people have been saying pretty much that the government is going to change the name. Media houses have hyped the rumor up. Celebrities have jumped in etc. Full on political storm at this point.
So the issue comes from the fact that the opposition basically all the opposition parties came together and formed an Alliance for the next elections happening in 2024 and they named themselves I.N.D.I.A. And since the day they formally decided to come together, it's only been political drama. Now you can easily guess where this thing about changing the name has come from. It's nothing but blatant insecurity.
The ruling party is not doing well there's been a lot of issues of their own doing. They're losing state elections. They've lost a lot of momentum due to their mishandling of a lot of things especially the Civil War situation in the state of Manipur, the way they have used religion as a way to divide people all across the country, the very high inflation, the basically non response to the environmental crisis - sinking of Joshimath, flash floods all across the country this monsoon, the washing away of roads, buildings collapsing like a house of playcards basically in the state of himachal. The government's Covid response? Disgusting.
Then there's a lot of other problems like for example the Indian wrestlers were protesting against the chairman of their federation. He's a bjp mp and the atheletes were accusing him of sexual harassment and the government didn't respond for a long time. He resigned but he still an MP in Parliament by the way.
Then the controller and auditor general (CAG) the one who actually audits the govt accounts, all the expenditure on the Indian treasury etc. They've actually released reports saying that a lot of the developmental projects have used excess money than what they were supposed to have used as per the initial estimates so that's another thing. Also there's very little press freedom, almost non exisitent freedom for activists. There's very little transparency especially when it comes to things established by this government.
They also tend to also put the laws in the constitution on the back burner and do their own thing as per their own whims. Don't even get me started on the kind of expenditure they are doing for the G20 summit happening right now. And the other things surrounding it in terms of organization etc, just search about what they've done to the low income areas of Delhi during this time on the internet and you'll find out
These are just a few issues, there's a lot more and I'm not putting them here since it's already turned into an essay. But safe to say that M*di and his govt would have had very stiff competition in the elections next year because a large population of the people are just not interested in their whataboutry now and want the real tangible things to be done on ground in terms of Healthcare, planning, education etc.
And if they actually do it, change the name I mean then it is basically a last ditch by the government to get their ardent supporters back on their side, give them a shot of nationalism and make sure they vote for them next year.
Legally speaking article 1, which I mentioned above it can be amended but till what level can you amend it? That's what I'm unsure about and I have been researching for the past few days, so still in the process of it. Because the thing is that the Indian constitution is both rigid as well as flexible. Basically means that, you can amend the constitution but you can't encroach upon or you can't change its basic structure like the main tenants which make it the document that it is. So I'm not particularly sure over how much the first article be amended to facilitate this name change. It's not even a name change really it's the deletion of one of the names.
The name which is basically what everybody knows the country as. If they do change it then it would be nothing but a political gimmick but also it will be a waste of a lot of taxpayer money. I'm honestly scared to calculate how much it would cost and what all would need to change from people's legal documents, to names of state institutions, their documents, the public sector firms, educational institutions etc.
Another issue is the language, Bharat is the Hindi name and a lot of states might not accept given the fact that their local languages have always been given a lower position as compared to the North Indian Hindi. Then there's the history attached to it the name India and the govt will be basically bulldozing all that has been associated with it if they delete it.
Now people who've never actually opened a book up in their lives say that this is a name given by the British so it's our Colonial Legacy etc, but the thing is the name 'India' is actually related to the ancient Greeks who used to trade with the people of the indus Valley civilization. Locally the indus river was known as 'sindhu' and they in their own language translated it to 'indus' and thus, the word India came into being - the people who lived on the indus Valley were thus called 'Indians'. And then this name India given by the Greeks was later exported to other western cultures etc. So not a colonial Legacy after all.
A lot of other things also but the gist is that the name change/name deletion situation is a very slippery slope to go down.
Once again saying that it's just rumors at its point, but I won't be surprised that they are thinking it. the government is known to take pretty significant and often rash decisions without any prior information to anybody. Still it's just rumors till now.

(JTA) — The temporary shelters that Jews erect during the holiday of Sukkot are meant in part to recall a time when Jews had nowhere permanent to live. In Northeast India, that symbolism is heavy with additional meaning this year.
That’s because large numbers of Bnei Menashe, the Jewish community that lives there, have fled their homes in the state of Manipur since ethnic unrest broke out in early May.
According to the Israeli organization Shavei Israel, about 2,000 people from the Jewish community have been displaced. A different nonprofit that works with the community, Degel Menashe, cites a smaller number, 700.
But either way, the community has been ravaged, with three locations that have been home to large numbers of Bnei Menashe decimated in the violence. Synagogues and homes have burned to the ground, and the number of displaced people has only grown with time.
Now, as the conflict enters its sixth month, what many believed would be temporary displacements in the Manipur hills or the neighboring state of Mizoram are becoming permanent.
“Despite these challenging times for the Bnei Menashe and even in the farthest reaches of northeastern India, they have continued to uphold the ancient tradition of building Sukkot in honor of the festival,” said Michael Freund, chairman and founder of Shavei Israel, which helps “lost tribe” communities return to Israel.
Shavei Israel distributed pictures showing members of the community constructing sukkahs out of bamboo. Their efforts come as their own safety in their areas where they live is in question — or already compromised.
“[For] the Bnei Menashe and the rest of the people who have left Imphal, I don’t think there is any chance of them returning back because there is no security,” said Isaac Thangjom, the Israel-based director of Degel Menashe, which assists Bnei Menashe communities in Israel and India, referring to Manipur’s capital city. “If you ask me honestly, the separation is complete.”
The Bnei Menashe identify as descendants of a “lost tribe” group, tracing their origins to the Israelite tribe of Menasseh. In 2005, a chief rabbi of Israel affirmed their identity as a “lost tribe” group with historic Jewish ties, but researchers have not found sufficient evidence to back the claim. Bnei Menashe Jews began immigrating to Israel in the 1990s, and because of their “lost tribe” status, they all undergo formal Orthodox conversions upon arrival. Around 5,000 remain in the states of Manipur and Mizoram today, and about 5,000 have already immigrated to Israel.
Many have struggled to gain entry into Israel over the past two decades, and they are now asking the Jewish state to expedite the immigration process to help them escape the violence.
Israeli authorities have yet to comment publicly about the situation and did not respond to multiple requests for comment from the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. Israel has recently been seeking to advance its relations with India.
Conflict erupted in May when tribal groups in Manipur launched a protest against the ethnic majority Meitei’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status, which is traditionally reserved for minority tribes. The Bnei Menashe Jews belong to the minority Kuki tribe.
The Kukis (about 16% of the population and majority Christian) say the Meiteis (53% and majority Hindu) already have outsized privilege and political representation in Manipur.
According to local reports, unofficial “but very real” borders have been drawn between what have become Kuki and Meitei areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has been criticized for failing to control the situation. In August, opposition lawmakers called for a no-confidence vote over Modi’s handling of the situation, but it was easily defeated.
Some 190 people have died in the conflict since May, according to local media, including at least one Bnei Menashe community member. Over 60,000 are displaced.
Several other Bnei Menashe Jews are hospitalized with injuries, according to Shavei Israel.
In the face of displacement, the Bnei Menashe Jews have remained religiously observant, even as some fled with nothing more than their prayer books and the clothes on their backs, a Mizoram Jewish community member told JTA in June.
“It was so sudden,” said Ariella Haokip, a Bnei Menashe community member taking shelter in Thingdawl, Mizoram. “Funds were sent to us to buy special items for Rosh Hashanah and now for Sukkot. In spite of our misery, it is comforting to think that we are remembered.”
Some are currently staying at government shelters, others at schools and homes of other community members, or rented homes paid for by nonprofit groups. In Thingdawl, Mizoram, one young member has begun organizing Hebrew classes for displaced members, said Thangjom.
Both Shavei Israel and Degel Menashe have been working since May to provide continued support to the Bnei Menashe Jews through donations of food, mattresses, mosquito nets, infant formula, medicines and other necessities. Both organizations have arranged shelters for displaced families. Additional financial support has poured in from Jewish and Christian organizations in the United States and Israel.
For some, the High Holiday season also represents a new beginning, as Degel Menashe races to construct homes for several Bnei Menashe families. Lalam Hangshing, chairman of the Bnei Menashe Council-India, donated a piece of land of about 200 acres in Churachandpur on which nine homes are being constructed.
“It was hoped that it could be ready by Rosh Hashanah but there were some unforeseen delays and challenges,” said Thangjom. “Each family will be allotted a piece of land to grow or raise something of their choice so that it can be a source of livelihood for them.”

Flying Lifelines: Air Ambulance Services in Imphal
Imphal, the picturesque capital city of Manipur, is known for its rich culture and scenic beauty. However, amidst its serene surroundings, medical emergencies can occur, requiring immediate attention. In such critical situations, air ambulance services in Imphal emerge as essential resources, providing rapid medical assistance. This blog explores the significance of air ambulance services in Imphal and their role in ensuring timely healthcare delivery.
1. Swift Response, Critical Care: Air ambulance services in Imphal are equipped with advanced medical equipment and staffed by experienced healthcare professionals. Their primary objective is to ensure a swift response and deliver critical care to patients in transit. Whether it's responding to accidents, medical emergencies, or urgent hospital transfers, these services prioritize providing immediate medical attention, significantly improving patient outcomes.
2. Overcoming Geographical Challenges: Imphal's diverse terrain and remote areas can pose challenges for ground-based ambulances during emergencies. Air ambulance services overcome these obstacles by utilizing helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft. These aerial units can swiftly navigate through the city's terrain, reaching patients in remote or inaccessible locations, ensuring prompt medical assistance even in challenging environments.
3. Facilitating Access to Specialized Treatment: While Imphal has healthcare facilities, access to specialized medical treatment during emergencies may be limited. Air ambulance services bridge this gap by facilitating rapid medical evacuation and transportation to specialized hospitals in Imphal or nearby cities. This ensures that patients receive timely access to the specialized care they require for their recovery.
4. Collaborative Efforts for Effective Operations: The success of air ambulance services in Imphal relies on seamless collaboration among various stakeholders, including healthcare providers, aviation authorities, and ground support teams. Through effective coordination and communication, these stakeholders ensure smooth operations, timely response, and optimal resource utilization. This collaborative approach enhances the overall effectiveness of air ambulance services, enabling them to save lives during medical emergencies.
Conclusion: In conclusion, air ambulance services in Imphal play a crucial role in the city's emergency healthcare system. Their ability to provide swift response, overcome geographical challenges, and facilitate access to specialized treatment underscores their importance in saving lives during emergencies. Let us acknowledge and appreciate the dedication of air ambulance services and their teams, who work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of the community in Imphal.

Biden’s Flawed Myanmar Policy
As the Israel-Hamas war rages, the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza is grabbing headlines – as well it should. But another armed conflict, in Myanmar, is also causing mass suffering, with more than two million people internally displaced and over a million more streaming into neighboring Bangladesh, India, and Thailand. And it is attracting far less international attention. This is not to say that outside forces are not engaged in the conflict in Myanmar. On the contrary, the United States seems to view supporting the rebel and pro-democracy groups attempting to overthrow the military junta – which returned to power in a February 2021 coup – as a kind of moral test. But its approach is doing Myanmar little good. After the military overthrew Myanmar’s nascent civilian government – to which it had begun ceding power barely six years earlier – US President Joe Biden’s administration re-imposed wide-ranging sanctions, which it has since ratcheted up. But, so far, the sanctions have left Myanmar’s military elites relatively unscathed, even as they have unraveled the economic progress made over the last decade and inflicted misery on ordinary citizens. The Biden administration has also deepened engagement with the so-called National Unity Government that was formed as an alternative to the junta. Though the US, like the rest of the world, has refrained from formally recognizing the shadow government, this has not stopped the Biden administration from providing “non-lethal aid” to its notional army, the People’s Defense Force, as well as to ethnic insurgent organizations and pro-democracy groups, under the BURMA Act. And the US has a history of interpreting “non-lethal” rather loosely. Non-lethal support for Syrian rebels, for example, included enhancing their operational capabilities on the battlefield. The groups the Biden administration supports in Myanmar do not share a common cause, let alone a single political strategy. The shadow government has failed to win the support of all major ethnic groups, and its armed wing lacks a unified military command. The ethnic insurgent groups – some of which have records of brutality – are often more interested in securing autonomy for their communities than in building an inclusive federal democratic system, and some are willing to collaborate with the junta to get it. Complicating matters further, these groups’ territorial claims sometimes overlap. It is impossible to say for certain whether growing US aid flows have fueled more violence in Myanmar. But there is no doubt that rebel attacks have lately intensified, with serious consequences not only for civilians, who often are caught in the crossfire, but also for neighboring states. Just last month, a major offensive – which enabled the rebels to gain control of several border towns and dozens of military outposts – drove at least 72 government soldiers to flee to India in just one week. The junta responded by intensifying its own lethal force, including punitive air strikes and artillery barrages. Meanwhile, more than 32,000 ethnic Chin from Myanmar have taken refuge in India’s Chin-majority Mizoram state, where they live mostly in refugee camps. Thousands more have fled to another Indian border state, Manipur, fueling an increasingly violent conflict between the local population’s two main ethnic groups.

Like Fred Hampton, the black panther deputy chairman who was roofied by the FBI and Chicago police, followed by them raiding his apartment at 4AM and spraying it with more than one hundred (100) bullets after his body guard fired one (1) shot after they blasted him in the chest with a shotgun upon entering, and then shot and killed Fred in his bed while he was still drugged.
There is a reason that Karl Marx said, "under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm workers should be frustrated by force, if necessary." And there is a reason the state reacted so strongly to the Black Panthers arming themselves, starting their own community self defense initiatives and kicking out cops, keeping their own bodyguards instead of relying on the state; armed minorities are harder to oppress.
We live in a world ruled by violence, our history is written in blood. That has not changed in the modern day, even if we in the West like to use our wealth to hide the violence and the blood. We disarm the individual so we don't have to see guns, we confine the animal slaughters and cruelty behind the walls of our factory farms, we extract our wealth from foreign countries.
Guns and violence still exist as a technology in a stateless society, they always will; community self defense will still have to deal with disputes involving guns. Dual power says that we must start evolving the mutual aid structures that serve as an alternative to state violence now, which will expand and render state services obsolete.
We must confront that head on. We must live in the world where if there is a need for violence, we address it ourselves through direct action. If you want to eat meat; know what it feels like to kill that animal. If you see someone committing violence; protect the victim or yourself by your own volition, don't rely on state-recruited thugs whose primary purpose is the enforcement of private and state property.
And we must adopt guns, lastly, because they are a force-equalizer between men and women; a primary facet enabling the oppression of women and the patriarchy is based in the superior physical strength of men. Guns, in many situations (not all), allow women to even the playing field. In Rojava, the currently extant libertarian socialist society, the feminist and egalitarian society within the Middle East, they plan to abolish cops over time, as they provide the conflict de-escalation and firearm training cops are given to the populace at large as a part of educational programs aimed at allowing community self-defense initiatives to take over.
Guns will always be associated with tragedy and violence. School shootings, mass shootings, murder suicides; in a society where protection and deterrence from violence is omni-present in the potential reaction of every individual, where direct action is in the water supply, where people do not rely on a state to protect them, these tragedies don't stop, but these actions become less effective, harder to pull off, more intimidating. And casual systems of structural oppression become untenable when every member of an oppressed minority is able to organize and respond with lethal force against an oppressive majority.
There is an ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur, in India. Tensions are high there, and there have been several violent tragedies committed within this context. I remember reading a few months ago about a family in the minority ethnicity who were chased out of their home by a mob of young adult men; the father and his adult son were killed in front of the mother and two daughters, and then, after two of the women escaped, one of the daughters was taken and gang raped in a public space. This was filmed and posted online; I believe the young woman was killed afterwards.
In India, it is hard to procure a gun, and the culture punishes the ownership of guns for self defense. It is likely this family, these women, and the two murdered men, did not have the opportunity to purchase guns. They had no ability to protect themselves. If there was an assumption the family was armed, that mob of young men would have been less likely to do what they did, knowing that even if they could overpower this family and these women, every man involved in the mob risked their lives. And it is likely the gang rape would not have happened either; given that any member of the same cultural minority, any friend to the family, any sympathetic woman onlooker, could have taken their guns and defended that woman from those rapists and killers while they were in that public space, or at least fired warning shots to disperse the crowd in an effort to protect her.
I do not understand, really, how gun control activists who identify along radical lines justify themselves. Would they rather live in the world where those women were not able to protect themselves? Do they think that in the absence of capitalism, sources of violence like ethnic conflicts will disappear? It was here before capitalism, it will be here after. Humans are cruel to each other.
And, as a queer person in the US, I will not be entering this era of conservative reaction being solely reliant on the state for my community to protect itself, when it is entirely possible that the state will specifically target my community with violence.
even if owning guns isn't arming the proletariat don't you think there's still a case for communists to arm themselves, ie. to defend from political assassination?
if you are actually at risk from political assassinations what you need is a dedicated security detail. this is not the case for 99.99% of people--most of the people whose life is in danger due to their political work are in danger chiefly from the state, in which case owning a gun still won't do shit.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 11 August 23 More power in Delhi to the central government
With reference to Taniya Dutta's report India's Parliament passes bill to give Modi government more power in Delhi (August 08): The passing of this bill was opposed by the ruling Delhi administration as well as other opposition parties. Clearly, this will give more power to the Modi government to control Delhi's incumbent AAP party officials if they bypass norms and do things their own way. It's a smart move for Mr Modi.
Also, Ms Dutta’s other article elaborated how the opposition parties were blaming Mr Modi for not taking care of the Manipur violence. The prime minister is expected to respond to this soon. I hope this issue will be settled peacefully and that there won’t be any further warring of parties and use of unparliamentary words in parliament.

[ad_1] The Prime Minister is responding to a no-confidence motion over the unrest in ManipurNew Delhi: Responding to the no-confidence motion against his government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today predicted that the Opposition will try this again five years later and stressed that India will then be among the world's top 3 economies.Addressing the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister reminded the House of the earlier no-confidence motion brought against his government in 2018 and recounted his remark then that the Opposition will repeat this in 2023. BJP members thumped their desks and cheered loudly as the Prime Minister launched attack after attack on the Opposition. The Prime Minister said the Opposition parties have a 'boon'. "They have a secret boon. Whenever they wish ill for someone, he will succeed. One such example is standing in front of you. Twenty years have passed, only good happened," he said, referring to himself."Whichever institution they speak against, their luck turns around. The country was on the verge of bankruptcy in 1991. But after 2014, India secured a spot in the top five. When you bring no-trust motion in 2028, we will be in the Top 3," he said. The Prime Minister is responding to a no-confidence motion over the unrest in Manipur over the past couple of months, which has claimed more than 150 lives. The Opposition had been demanding that he speak in Parliament over the situation in Manipur, but when the BJP did not concede, the no-confidence motion was moved to force the Prime Minister to address the Lok Sabha. [ad_1] GG News Bureau Imphal, 19th Oct. Fresh violence erupted in the Jiribam district of Manipur on Saturday morning when militants launched an armed attack on a village near the Borobekra police station. The assault, which occurred around 5 am, involved the use of sophisticated weapons and explosive devices, as reported by an official. In response to the attack, personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police engaged in a heavy exchange of gunfire with the militants. Additional security forces have been dispatched to the scene to reinforce the response. As of now, no casualties have been reported, but security forces have begun evacuating elderly residents, women, and children to safer locations amidst the escalating violence. Borobekra, situated approximately 30 kilometers from Jiribam town, is surrounded by dense forests and rugged terrain, making it vulnerable to such militant activities. The area has experienced several violent incidents since ethnic clashes erupted in the state in May last year. This resurgence of violence comes just days after discussions among MLAs from the conflicting Meitei and Kuki communities in New Delhi aimed at finding a peaceful resolution to the ongoing turmoil in Manipur. The situation remains tense as security forces continue to monitor and respond to the conflict. Okay I warned y’all this would be a lot but here we go. As background you should know that for many birders, the hobby is a lot more than just going outside and watching birds. There is a competitive angle where the goal is to spot as many bird species as possible and record these sightings on your personal “life list”. As some bird species can only be spotted in remote locations across the globe, it takes a decent amount of time, dedication, skill, and money to fill out life lists that number in the thousands. As can be expected, many of the individuals with these mega life lists become quasi celebrities in the birding world. Chief among them is Peter Kaestner, a lifelong birder who has been meticulously recording his life list over decades as the de facto top birder. As he has added to his list bird by bird, thousands of interested avian enthusiasts have been following along and celebrating his milestones. Most exciting in recent months is his intrepid journey towards becoming the first birder to ever record seeing 10,000 different species. The entire birding community has been watching him creep towards 10k with growing excitement. Kaestner is deeply respected in the birding community and there is great trust for his well-documented list.
So now the twist. Just as Kaestner was getting closer and closer to 10k, a previously unknown birder named Jason Mann suddenly joined an app called iGoTerra (not the most common app for birding records) and all at once added observations of close to 10,000 birds. Suddenly, Kaestner being the first birder to reach this milestone isn’t such a sure thing, and both he and mysterious newcomer Mann seem to be scrambling to count as many birds as possible as the race narrows.
On February 9th Kaestner announces he’s hit the milestone and seen his ten thousandth bird, the Orange-tufted spider hunter. The birding world rejoices! As a ~crazy~ coincidence, Jason Mann just so happens to announce on the same day that he has also hit the milestone and he actually did it before Kaestner. He writes an article about himself that is somehow both shamelessly masturbatory and also has that weirdly impersonal AI generated article feel.
Well obviously the birding world is a little skeptical of this random ass dude suddenly swooping in to snag this milestone that has been years in making. Naturally, people started looking a little closer at Mann’s list, and it has some… let’s say interesting observations. It appears from his own reports that Mann has casually rediscovered several species of birds and not bothered to tell anyone. Some of the most ludicrous observations include:
New Caledonian Nightjar- has not been seen since 1939
Manipur Bush Quail- only one suspected sighting since 1932
Zapata rail- Unbelievably rare, and largely inaccessible due to environment
Taiga bean goose- Not the rarest goose in the world but Mann’s reported sighting was from North Korea. And it was apparently the only bird recorded there. So he just went to NK, saw this goose, and that’s it? Weird.
These are just a few examples of many, many fishy recordings. The issue here is nobody knows who Mann actually is, and the only places providing information about him (such as his LinkedIn) are really bizarre in a way I don’t have time to dig into here. Mann (or someone claiming to be him) actually took to BirdForum.net to defend himself, where he offered a long-winded and somewhat fumbling explanation for his life list. He claims that all of these mythical bird sightings were erroneously counted by the iGoTerra app, and he hadn’t meant to include them at all. He assures us that the rest of the recordings are entirely legitimate. Mann said in his post that in light of these mistakes he is ceding his victory to Kaestner, but was quick to say he has still totally seen more than 10k birds- even if they’re not all recorded correctly. He sent Kaestner a vaguely condescending email that Kaestner responded to with, in my opinion, far too much grace.
So now the birding community is left trying to figure out this bizarre and unexpected outcome. Is Peter Kaestner in fact the first birder to record ten thousand birds? A shadow of doubt has been cast on a title that everyone has expected to be his for years. Some birders are sincerely congratulating Jason Mann for his accomplishment in the field, and others are suggesting he isn’t even a real person but in fact some kind of artificial intelligence birding psy op. It is absolute chaos, and nobody in my life wants to hear me rant about this
Do y’all wanna hear about some absolutely crazy shit going down in the birding world right now
#long post#birding#drama#some of this might be wrong lol it’s hard to keep track of all the different narratives here
