Hi overthinkers :D

After a really messy gap of three years, I finally red "Boy meets Maria" and I'll never be able to express how much this short story made my heart ache and melt. I can't believe I took so long because it's pure genius how it's written, and it's so SO sad we won't get anymore of it.

Anyways, let me yap a bit about it because I got SO MUCH to say, especially towards Arima's gender. I'll try to be as respectful as I can and use they/them referring to them regardless of the conclusion I take.

Both of the main characters are SO WELL WRITTEN in a way I've rarely seen in media these days!

"Boy meets maria" is a comic novel that makes us question so many things we have barely thought about in modern society, being them specially gender roles and norms, or how abuse comes in all sizes, shapes and colors.

Let's start with Taiga!

In a way, Taiga is the "least complex" character in this mangá. His concept is simple; he lost his mom when he was very young, his dad was irresponsible taking care of a child and drowning on his drinking addiction, and after growing up with all that, Taiga decides he wants to be a hero.

The meaning of a hero to Taiga is, simply explained, to be this great GREAT person. He wants to be a famous actor, succeed in life, and have this beautiful girlfriend to "save".

To be short, Taiga decides he doesn't want to be like his dad. His bright personality is basically his way of getting better, of being happy, and most important of all, of helping people.

I guess we can say Taiga is a very deeply conflicted character. looking for his way to the top on theater, I'd say this is him leaving his past behind and looking ou to show the world he is worth something, looking for something that may bring back to him the feeling of control contrasting how much he couldn't help but just watch his mother slowly die, and how weak he felt not knowing she was already being hurt by his father all along.

Let's say that the reason he's looking for a perfect girl for him to act like this perfect hero also has to do with the passing of his mom and the absence of his father, because to him, this is one unconscious second chance of treating a girl right and having a happy ending.

Then things don't go exactly as planned, and he meets Arima 😍

You see, Arima is a BIG part of Taiga's reality check because boy is completely HEAD OVER HEALS. Mind you, i saw some people saying they kind of cringed because of the way he acted and that he was unrealistic or a "manic pixie boy," and I totally disagree, I disagree even harder because I do know boys like him in real life and I can assure sometimes this big extroverted person is nothing more than a nod to the neglected child they were on the past.

So, yeah, when he chases Arima through the hall, this is basically him saying "don't say no to me, because I need this 😃 um excuse me, 😀 I need to be happy 🙂 dont say no" , and it's so persistent Arima ACTUALLY has to show him their genitals...so...uh...kinda crazy, huh?

But surprisingly, this is not a big deal to them if not for the inconvenience, and I'll say more, They lost all their notion of decency way before their childhood Trauma

Let's talk about Maria...No! Sorry, I mean...

Let's talk about Arima

Arima is a complex character that I appreciate so much due to never seeing a representation like them in media before.

I'd like to say that I'll not get into the sexual abuse too much because this may get too long, and it's sort of a sensitive topic for me, but I might mention it later if I feel like it.

Arima, since very little, was forced to be perceived as a girl by his mom, a type of abuse called forced feminization, where, well, you force a vulnerable individual to use exaggerated accessories that would match better a woman according to the known gender norm.

It was clear, However, that Arima never had a normal childhood being perceived as a girl, since none of what they had was granted because they wished, it was what their mom wished to fullfill HER wishes, and so on Arima felt like a boy but had to keep the image of being a girl solid and intact, after all, it was all they knew.

This is really big on their relationship with Taiga, since they basically reverse roles when they mature

This pannel, for example, is screaming gender roles, with Arima being stuck to pink and girl toys while Taiga is surrounded by all types of boy toys. This pannel has, also, big foreshadowing for their image of a hero when they were little. While Taiga thinks he can be this awesome image of a savior he wished to become, Arima holds on to a hero, shyly showing that not only they need to be who they truly are, since this is also the only toy on the picture that they hold on and that they're trully interested, but they also look for a saviour, someone who could take them out of the feeling of not belonging, someone who could understand what they need. The only thing also separating both of them is a flower, which is much symbolical to their different perspective growing up and the curious impact of Taiga's dad in their lives.

The cover for this mangá is the paralel we get from the back, and honestly, it's so beautiful how it doesn't necessarily mean it is about Arima detaching from their feminity, Rather just how much Taiga helped them realize they don't need to look feminine to be accepted and fullfill anyone's wishes.

To me, at the end of chapter 6, it's most likely that yes, Arima might be a boy suffering from detachment of something that they knew since they were very little, the role of a girl; AND HEAR ME OUT! THE THEATHER CONTEXT WAS GENIOUS!!!

Arima, their whole life, were assigned as this little girl, that deep down, was unhappy with their identity.

Then they go through this horrible fucking abuse and they feel vulnerable and weak,and they say, well, I'm a boy. That's it, that's who I always was.

And then, they go to their first play and they play as a boy, and they act (literally) as a boy, but the second their abuser is there to see them, (motherfucker) they lose it.

They lose it because, in the first place, all that happened to them was because of the rumor they weren't really a girl, and concluding that, they run away from their real them to avoid facing their trauma and their identity.

So Arima only acts as a girl on plays (literally) despite acting so well as a male character, hiding their talent and their feelings from everyone.

Until Taiga appears and never give up on them, which is beautiful.

And then, in the end, we understand that maybe they are not a boy, maybe they are not a girl, maybe they are both, maybe they are neither, but;

1. Their gender is not defined by what they look like

2. It's nobody's business

I can't put into words how well written this whole scene is. The way they mimick how the abuse was, the way they're scared of getting attached to someone again, the way they're mentally destroyed by the doubt and the feeling of weakness and how none of this matters because Taiga love's them.

No matter the gender, Taiga fell in love with Yuu.

And then they feel comfortable again, which seals pretty much this comic.

No matter which role (gender or theather lol) Yuu chooses, they'll always be Yuu Arima, and they'll always be special.

For some people who couldn't believe what they saw! Aoi Kanzaki from Demon Slayer in the Light Novel of anime/mangá, did show that she had a crush on Tanjiro Kamado without being shown in the anime and manga and in a light novel you can see this because the author made it clear that Aoi was in love with Tanjiro but when she found out through Kanao that it was the redhead who encouraged her to make her own decisions without using the coin, it broke Kanzaki's heart just noticing the red blush on Tsuyuri's cheeks, so Aoi gave up at that moment seeing how much Kanao matches Tanjiro and realizes that the girl deserves his affection more than with her, it is explicit in this novel that Aoi liked Tanjiro.

Costumo ir para a cama muito tarde porque costumo passo a noite lendo. Sou uma mistura de produtividade e um pouco de procrastinação. Demoro muito para fazer o dever de casa, mas sempre entrego na hora e tiro boas notas. Não sei como descrever minha personalidade, mas sou uma pessoa que não costuma mentir Na maioria das vezes, sou uma pessoa calma, mas perco a paciência facilmente.

Sou bastante criativo e tenho tendência a me distrair com bastante facilidade. Há um pequeno problema em ter a língua presa, então às vezes é difícil entender o que estou dizendo. Às vezes falo muito rápido, o que torna um pouco difícil entender o que estou dizendo. Sou muito gentil com meus amigos.

No início consigo ficar bem quieto, mas conforme vou avançando tenho tendência a conversar mais, principalmente sobre coisas que gosto.

The First Impression:

Idia didn't really mind you at first...actually he didn’t even notice. Not that you didn't share any classes or anything, he was just never in person for anything except gaming club and even if he was he would have written you off as a normie.

Once Idia did notice due to you constantly being in his circle and Ortho suggesting he make friends you didn't bother him....he actually sorta didn't mind your presence. You had some pretty good tastes, and it was nice to see a anime/manga enjoy-er. After hearing a rather passionate long winded speech about your current obsession he began to sorta respect you.

Why He Fell:

Idia began to slowly fall for you the more he hung around you. He didn't know it but every small ramble, boardgame match you won against a clubmate, notebook he noticed you writing in, manga he happened to notice you reading and glimpse of your screen showing the whatever anime you decided on that day he was slowly falling in love with the Idea of you.

Eventually as he began spending more and more time with you're to bored game meetings, run ins at Sam's, and Ortho's encouragement he slowly but surely began to fall in love with the real you.

Though the shut in wasn't that oblivious to his own feelings and came to the realization after months at trying to gaslight himself into believing he was delusional and that there was no way he feel for you finially had his "Oh fuck" moment after catching himself litterally tripping over himself to pick up his phone when the small ping came from his phone thinking that it was a message for you.

Cursing himself for letting himself become so attached to someone he know would leave and a relationship he knew would fall apart causing himself to lock himself in his room and shut you out.

The Relationship:

If you were persistent enough to break down his walls he could not shake the ach in his soul. Not heart. Soul when you were missing. Eventually caving just a tiny bit, he decided to screw it and be selfish...for just a little bit. Swearing that he would let you go when it came time to take charge of STYX. Promising himself that he would not allow himself to be that selfish and rip away your life so that he could be close to you.

It actually worked out quite well with no drama. The fact you were honest and he was blunt actually worked in your favor. It made things very easy since you didn't hide anything, and due to the two of you both preferred quiet areas and also worked well since you could both hole yourself in his room. It was actually enjoyable since you had relatively similar interests. He was able to rant passionately to you, and you did the same to him. Not to mention there was a mutual understanding of boundaries that you each respect and a fair amount of both us and be time. He often stayed late into the night with you and although refused to do any cuddling until MONTHS into the relationship was extremely clingy once he worked up the courage to be able to do so. You have to initiate though.

He also would often help you with anything you have issues with especially tech related and sent gifts often....he really loves the patients and kindness you share with him and wants to make sure you feel loves as well....for as long as he is allowed to have you. Constantly reminding himself that as painful it will be for him for you to not remember anything about your time together he will one day have to send you down the river.

Personality: I'm a introvert but not necessarily shy. Actually, I'm pretty chaotic and carefree. You could say I'm a rule breaker, I just do whatever I want. People call me wild but I would say I'm just free lol.

I might have a careless behavior, but I do try my outmost to be kind. Just because I'm intimidating, it doesn't mean I have to be outright mean, right?

I also am heavily independent, I think I might actually have a stroke if I ask anyone for help, I just don't like feeling vulnerable lol.

I would say my good qualities are that I'm pretty pacient and open minded. I just don't get angry and don't judge people at all.

My bad qualities are that I might be too nonchalant about everything and have a tendency to be aloof. Like, I don't take most things seriously, it might prevent me from having outbursts but it also makes me look indifferent.

Likes: I really like cats, cold weather and spooky stories, horror movies. I love halloween and visiting "haunted" places.

Dislikes: I'm really afraid of dogs for no reason and hate hot weather. I also dislike spicy food.

Hobbies: My main hobby is deadass spending money, it's so fun buying random things. I might have a spending problem but at least that's my own money, right?

I mean, that's my job, but I like acting. It's always fun performing and decorating lines, it's like living an alternative life.

When I'm free, I like reading novels and mangás. My favorites one are those of fantasy genre. I just love all that magic shit.

Love Language: Since I like buying things, Gift Giving is naturally how I show love. I like buying them clothes, gifts and paying for the meal.

Quality Time is good too. Normally I value my own time alone but when I actually want to spend it with someone else?? You'll know I'm hooked.

Green Flag/Deal Breaker: I like people who are naturally kind and actually know how to show appreciation. That's something I struggle with and I think that would be something they could help me with.

On the other side, I dislike people who are mean for no reason. Like, you should just chill?? Why are being a pain in the ass lol.

I had an idea for a prompt, inspired in an old mangá I read long ago and don't remember the name. It plays with inverting the usual dynamic between them, also. Here it is:

It has been two years since the war and Hermione had done very well for herself. She has a good, respectable job in the ministry, is advancing her career and, although she is not rich, she leads a very comfortable life.

Narcissa, on the other hand, has not been so fortunate. With her (now ex) husband in jail and almost all her riches seized by the government for reparations after the war, life has been hard.

Draco, having become a pariah from most of his friends after the war and not having the best reputation as an ex-Death Eater, couldn't seem to get a job and Narcissa was the same.

After two years with no new income and having had to pawn her house to be able to pay bills Narcissa is becaming desperate. She has been trying her best to hold things together and keep as much of the situation hidden from Draco as possible, but if something doesn't change soon, they won't even have a home anymore.

She considered re-marrying as a way to save her family but having gone against Voldemort at the end most of the Pure bloods want nothing to do with her and she wasn't exactly a prize match for the winning side either.

And that is how she, in a desperate attempt to make enough money for her and Draco to live by, turned to one of the oldest professions of humankind.

Or, well, she tried. She wasn't counting on Hermione Granger, of all people, finding her late at night on Knockturn Alley, in a miserable state, wearing a skimpy dress and talking with a considerably older man. Nor did she count on the golden girl seemig to take offense to what she saw.

"You can't do this! It isn't right that you would have to do this!" Said Hermione, seemingly frantic

"Well, is not like I have much choice, do I?" Said Narcissa, frustrated

"There is always another option. There has to be!" Hermione was getting desperate, searching for anything that could stop this from happening.

"Is there, indeed? Well, and what is it, pray tell? Are YOU going to marry me and take care of me and my son?" Narcissa asked, angry, trying to prove a point, trying to show Granger there was no other way for her anymore.

"YES, YES I WILL! IF THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES, I'LL MARRY YOU!" Hermione yelled, without thinking. Anything to get Narcissa out of there.

"FINE THEN! Let's do it!" Narcissa yelled back, no longer caring what happened.

Silence. Both staring at each other, finally stopping to listen what they just said.

AKIRA - Resumo de uma odisseia cyberpunk

No ano de 1988, Katsuhiro Otomo transmitiu ao público japonês o longa-metragem Akira, baseado no mangá de 1982 que ele escreveu. Segundo o enredo, no ano de 2019, seguindo uma guerra mundial que resultou na destruiu Tokyo em 16 de julho de 1988, a cidade de Neo Tokyo é atormentada pela corrupção, protestos anti-governo, terrorismo e briga de gangues. Há dois personagens marcantes na obra, Shōtarō Kaneda, o líder de uma gangue de motoqueiros, e Tetsuo Shima, um amigo de infância de Kaneda, que recebeu poderes psíquicos após sofrer um acidente motociclístico. Akira foi mais do que um marco na cultura pop japonesa, o filme surpreendeu a todos com técnicas de animação bem avançadas e ousadas na época em que foi lançado, influenciando assim o crescimento da cultura pop japonesa no mundo todo e influencia outras obras até hoje.

Tetsuo se consagrou como um personagem popular, tanto é que a SNK, empresa responsável por The King of Fighters, criou um personagem chamado K9999 e usá-lo em The King of Fighters 2001 e no Dream Match, The King of Fighters 2002, e só para reforçar a ideia, o dublador de ambos Tetsuo Shima e K9999 é Nozomu Sasaki, o mesmo que faz a voz de Yusuke Urameshi. No entanto, como muitos dos golpes que K9999 usa foram adaptados tanto do filme Akira, quanto do mangá, a SNK não pôde utilizar o personagem em continuações de The King of Fighters, considerando que ele era plágio de um personagem já estabelecido(Tetsuo), e quando The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match foi lançado em 2010, K9999 foi substituído por Nameless. Em 2022, a SNK trouxe K9999 de volta para The King of Fighters, no entanto, com outro nome, Krohnen...
