I was laying down in a field of flowers, watching the clouds pass by in the shapes of watercolor animals. They passed by lazily, slowly dancing in the air. I got excited and floated up to join them in their colorful dance. It felt like someone was with me but whenever I looked around I couldn’t find them. It was a calming presence though. It was really one of the most beautiful dreams I’ve had in a long time..

It’s not that I don’t have ideas/the desire to draw, I’m just....really, really tired haha....I actually really want to draw, but the thought of doing anything more strenuous than playing an easy video game is sort of soul-crushing atm

Curly Hair Essentials

Welcome back Kurl Friend! Fall is slowly approaching (YAY) which means cool weather is on its way! Along with heat, cold air can dry our hair causing damage to our mane. Here are a few curly hair essentials to make sure your hair is moisturized to the tee. Whether you’re a vet in the game or newly curly, for the best results of maintaining your mane, you need to have these essential products. Remember less is more and it’s easier to stay consistent with fewer products/tools along your journey.

Moisturizing Shampoo

Shampooing your hair is one of those things you will do very rarely. It can dry your hair out ultimately causing breakage if not properly moisturized. Shampoo should only be used when your hair needs clarifying because build up along the roots of your hair can also be damaging to your growth process. Look for shampoos that are sulfate-free. Sulfate strips essential oils in the hair, leaving hair dry and lifeless.

Moisturizing Conditioner

Conditioner is going to be your very best friend in this process. It will leave your hair soft while restoring the lost moisture. The cool thing about conditioner is that you can simply use only it, to cleanse your hair. That would be called co-washing. It still cleanses your hair while leaving it moisturized unlike using shampooing everyday. It will also act as a slip for easier detangling.

Leave-in Conditioner

Leave ins are different from regular conditioners because well, you leave it in. These products (determining your hair type) won’t weigh your hair down and will define your curls. This is most likely the first step in all of the LOC methods.

Oil and/or Butter

Oil and butter acts as a sealant. It will seal in moisture from the water on your hair after the wash and help maintain the softness of the hair from the leave- in conditioner. Oil or butter should always be used in your every day hair regimen. Using moisturizers and leave-in conditioners won’t hold the moisture for long. Use your favorite oil or butter to seal the deal.

Cream

Cream acts as the ultimate defining mechanism for curly hair. After the leave-in and oil (or before), the cream will ensure the moisture is locked in and leave your hair frizz free.

Spray bottle/ Wide-Tooth Comb/ Denman Brush/ Satin Pillow Case/Scarf

The spray bottle is used for moisturizing purposes; you shouldn’t wash your hair every day, so the water bottle is there to help. The wide-tooth comb is for detangling. Smaller combs can snag on knots causing split ins and damage hair. The Denman brush is used after the wide-tooth comb to ensure there are no tangles left in the hair. Lastly, the satin pillow case and/or scarf is used when you’re getting ready to go to bed. It not only helps preserve your hairstyles but it also helps but snags from regular cotton pillows or scarves that would ultimately cause damage to your hair.

 All of these products can be found at your local beauty supply store, both inexpensive and expensive. They all work great, as long as you find what’s best for your hair. These products are essential in caring for and getting the best results for your hair. So if you haven’t already, add these products to your new hair routine and watch your beautiful curls come to life!
