Hmmm.
Been thinking about Ahsoka staying in the Mandalore system in S7.
Been thinking about her living with mandalorians. Sparring with them. Hunting with them. Scaring the pants off them.
Been thinking about mandalorian clans that have been in strained peace with the jedi for generations finally getting to deal with one for a prolonged period of time and realizing that they are fucking terrifying.
But also hot?
Scary vs hot is a thin line for mandalorians.
Thinking about Ahsoka not trusting jet packs and just free falling out of ships much to the surprise/horror/arousal of nearby young mandos.
Ahsoka who speaks mandoa well enough but doesn't say anything so she can eavesdrop.
Ahsoka who fights with mandakarla and can best Bo in a dual and who carries herself like a soldier.
Whose kind and patient with younglings and generally respectful and peaceful. But can absolutely fuck your shit up.
And Ahsoka who's having emotions about being in a camp of soldiers again because it's so familiar but so different that it hurts.
Ahsoka who speaks with authority and experience. Ahsoka who wears her rank. Ahsoka who's head always turns when someone calls for al'verde.
Ahsoka who embodies mandalorian virtues. Who would make an excellent founding. Who'd make any buir proud.
Ahsoka who always addresses elders with respect and quickly makes friends with them.
Ahsoka who fits in so much sometimes they forget she was a jedi until she pulls some crazy force shit and they all realize that she could probably kill them all. (very much backed up by Bo's account of her escape from Pre's camp.)
Ahsoka who references common mando'a saying but always in basic. Like *sees giant beast too close to camp**shrugs* "well, one big enemy and all that" or "I don't know. His helmet sounds awfully empty."
Ahsoka who's so well like she comes back with a iron heart woven onto her dress.

With a language that exists almost entirely textually, it's hard to know what Mando'a is meant to sound like. Here's a chart we developed to help identify what sounds pair with what letters in Mando'a! (The chart features the MandoAF alphabet.)
You can see this chart and hear the individual sounds in Mando'a Lesson's newest Youtube vid here:

ooh this is where the 'we're being gaslighted!' happened!
well, I'm bored and feeling fighty (personally I am not a pacifist), though i hate to be a pedant (i love to be a pedant) but gaslighting means deliberately undermining someone's sense of reality by convincing them real things are imaginary
it doesn't even mean lying
you're not being gaslighted or even lied to if you say 'cultural genocide' and someone asks where.
you're not being gaslighted or even lied to if you say 'satine banned the language' (yes i've seen this) and someone points out that she's the only character to speak Mand'oa in TCW and that the signage and korkie's class notes are in mandoa (note: i have not personally fact checked the writing one as i haven't learned what mandoa looks like)
you're not being gaslighted or even lied to if you say 'she should have at least tried to talk to/reason with the conservatives' (yes i have seen this one) and it's pointed out that "even extremists can be reasoned with" is an actual line said by her on screen, or if you say obviously she banned traditions and someone screenshots her saying "we are a people of tradition"
or if you say she banned mandalorian religion but deathwatch, her actual canon opposition, are not opposing her on religious grounds and the closest TCW comes to showing any kind of mandalorian religion is when Satine speaks some sort of death rites to a dying assassin
or if it's pointed out that Almec is an unreliable narrator and not a good source for information
or if it's pointed out that Concord Dawn is referred to as an independent province she has a treaty with rather than as a prison colony if i'm remembering correctly (it's been a few months since my last rewatch)
or that TCW is a separate continuity to Legends
or that Maul and deathwatch's plan hinged on the fact that she had popular consensus and that Mandalore had some form of elections
or that there might actually be more to mandalorian culture than open carrying, honor duels, might makes right, and imperialism.
...or that realistically, there's no such thing as a warrior culture where literally everyone can be a warrior and no one is providing for the warriors, so any system that privileges warriors is a caste society by it's very nature, and while TCW doesn't exactly delve into that class aspect, it doesn't shy away from who exactly is providing for deathwatch's warrior lifestyle either (they take slaves)
or that the very foundation of 'tyrannical Satine' is that she must be outright lying about her values the whole time, because she would not actually be able to enforce any of that as an actual pacifist, which interacts very oddly with her role in TCW story as the one who is critical of Obi Wan and the jedi for compromising their values as she, and many fans, perceive them, contrasting her with Obi Wan's more pragmatic approach to peace-keeping
Well I might be done. Or maybe I'm not. I won't venture to analyse what it is going on in the minds of Satine antis, but i'm thinking about what it is that gets to me about her. I like her well enough, sure, but that's not what makes her a hot button. It's all too tangled up in politics for me. [TEXT REDACTED FOR POLITICS AND REAL LIFE] Satine was an activist. Everything she does is twisted out of all proportion. She's not especially charismatic, she's angry, she's caustic, she could be described as 'strident' she is called hysterical in the show, she's 'too extreme' she's too much, she's an archetype of the exact kind of person so many people hate
and i respect that
and like so many activists, she worked her whole life and still lost in the end. but for 15 years mandalore had a peace. Korkie and his friends got to have a childhood and grow up without war. It's never enough but it's still worth it.

Hi!! I hope you're still writing for the clones? Because I'm crushing on Wolffe!! So, reader tells Wolffe they are pregnant? With twins?! Reader is all nervous and not feeling too well and even more nervous when telling Wolffe (but happy end?!) :)
pairing: Wolffe x f!Reader
warnings: pregnancy and brief references to trauma and war
word count: 1309
summary: where you tell wolffe you’re pregnant when he comes back from a campaign
A/N: hi @ortizshinkaroff i hope this meets your expectations and im sorry it took so long for me to get to your request 🥺
Adike
You’re always on his mind but this time it’s different. This time he was secure in the knowledge that he would be with you by the end of the rotation. With each passing minute, Wolffe can feel his excitement growing.
******
When the ship finally lands and General Koon has finished debriefing him, he eagerly makes his way into the hangar where the rest of his brothers are. Not all the clones had someone waiting for them but those that did reunited with them there. Although civilians weren’t technically allowed on base, exceptions were made for occasions such as this. How could anyone deny the clone troopers the very ones who missed them the most when they were off on missions? Especially with all they go through and what they risked, serving the Republic.
Seeing the familiar faces of Rex and some of the 501st, he approaches and asks if they had seen you.
‘Sorry vod. Haven’t heard from your girl in a while.’ Rex shrugs apologetically and pats him on the back before moving on to greet the other clones.
Wolffe can’t help but be worried now. The 501st had been back on Coruscant for a week now and you usually made it a point to say hello at least once.
Distractedly, he leaves the hangar muttering brief goodbyes and see you laters to those who approach him.
*******
The trip to your Coruscant apartment is short. Wolffe doesn’t even remember most of it, too preoccupied by his worries for you. They buzzed around inside his head, nearly driving him mad.
It’s a relief when he finally ends up in front of your familiar door. He rings the bell once, twice and then a third time, bouncing up and down on his toes nervously.
You don’t answer and any relief he felt when he arrived disappears. This wasn’t like you at all.
Hurriedly punching in the code into the keypad, the door slides open and he rushes in.
The living room and small kitchen is empty and he heads into your bedroom.
A faint noise sounds from the joined bathroom and his eyes strain to make out your form in the dim light.
You don’t appear to have noticed his approaching footsteps, remaining slumped against the vac tube.
‘Y/n?’
You jump and manage a weak smile in his direction before a look of discomfort crosses your face.
Wolffe barely has any time to react before you lean over the vac tube and throw up. You brace your hands against the edge, heaving the contents of your stomach into the tube.
******
Familiar warm hands are on your back and instinctively, you relax into his welcome touch. It couldn’t be put into words, the extent to which you’ve missed it. Missed him.
‘Oh cyare.’ Your boyfriend rubs soothing circles into your back as you cough, grimacing at the bitter taste of bile in your mouth.
I’m sorry.’ You whisper into his shoulder before your stomach twinges in discomfort, causing you to throw up the rest of what little remained in your stomach.
Wolffe continues rubbing the soothing circles with his thumb, patiently waiting until you stop coughing before he speaks.
‘What have you got to be sorry for cyar’ika? You’re perfect.’
‘I wasn’t there. I promised you I would always be there and I wasn’t. I’m sorry. I’m so so sorry.’ Your hormones are getting the best of you and before you know it, you’re practically sobbing in his arms.
Wolffe brings his arms up, wrapping them around your body, holding you close to his chest, murmuring, ‘Y/n… I meant what I said. You have nothing to be sorry for. You’re sick and that’s okay.’
Letting out a soft hiccup, you relax further into his embrace, reveling in the fact that he is here. That he is with you. Everything else could wait. Just for a while longer.
Exhaustion is weighing heavily on you now and the last thing you register is the light kiss Wolffe presses onto your hair before sleep blissfully envelops you.
******
Your eyes fly open, hand immediately coming up to rest on your small bump. He didn’t know yet right? In your earlier slightly delirious from exhaustion state, you prayed that you hadn’t let anything slip.
Anxiously getting out of bed, you padded softly out into the living room of your apartment. It’s dark outside, the streets of Coruscant thriving with its nightlife.
‘Wolffe?’ Your voice shakes slightly with nervousness as you sent up another prayer to the stars.
‘In here.’ He calls back, his voice echoing from the attached kitchenette.
He’s standing there in his blacks, two plates of hot food on the counter in front of him.
‘Hi.’ You give him a small smile, fiddling with your fingers when his eyes meet yours.
‘Hi.’ Wolffe responds in like as he comes to stand in front of you. He’s so close now that you can see the flecks of gold in his irises. You always did think he had lovely eyes and wondered how could anyone do clones the injustice of simply saying their eyes were brown.
Gently his hands come up to rest on your waist before he lifts you up onto the countertop causing you to let out a small squeal of surprise.
‘Sorry cyare.’ He chuckles lightly, breath fanning out across your face.
‘Are you feeling better now?’ His voice is filled with concern as he waits expectantly for your answer.
There’s a moment of silence where you simply look at him. The crinkles by his eyes, the slight stubble on his cheeks, the pure love and adoration in his eyes. The last of which seals it for you, causing you to swiftly decide that it’s now or never.
‘I’m pregnant.’
‘What?’ Shock is written all over his features, his eyes locked on yours.
Taking in a deep breath, you continue, ‘I was never sick. Not really. Just nauseous which has been normal for a while now.’
Wolffe is still staring at you blankly and you bite your lip, willing him to say something. To say anything.
Desperately needing anything at all to fill the overwhelming silence you hesitantly add, ‘It’s twins.’
Wolffe’s eyes widen and you begin preparing yourself for the worst, not that you could blame him. One baby was already going to be a handful but two? Two was asking for trouble.
‘I’m going to be a father?’ His voice is raw, trembling with emotion. There’s a slightly fearful look in his eyes like he’s terrified that someone was going to come and take all this away from him. That between one blink and the next everything he’s ever dreamed of would vanish.
Your heart aches for the pain he’s been through but you push it away for now, focusing on what’s happening right now.
‘Yeah.’ You softly confirm, a warm feeling rising in your chest at the sight of the pure joy that lights up in Wolffe’s eyes.
‘Kriff I love you. I love you so much.’ He breathes.
His hands move to your waist, touching your little bump gently. The premature lines of worry on his forehead seem to melt away as he looks back up at you in awe.
‘Our little adike.’
‘Our little adike.’ You whisper back, tears falling from your own eyes.
Mandoa Translation:
adike - plural form of ad’ika meaning little one, son or daughter of any age
cyar’ika - darling, sweetheart
cyare - beloved
vod - brother

Yeah, that seems to be the consensus! I generally got commentary on 'probably one fic did it first, and then others followed suit because people like Obi Whump,' the changeling+space scotland thing, and @jebiknights offered up the Dooku fun fact on discord.
Other responses I got, which include several conflicting "it came from This Specific Fic" reports:
I think the Obi-Wan river thing came from one of Deadcatwithaflamethrower's fics in their super-long Obi/Qui series. It definitely predates Jangobi (tumblr anon)
@ahsoka-ina-hood:
I've seen some references to changeling myths with Stewjon and Obi Wan, though I have no idea if, er, the idea of drowning changelings has any basis in anything. I mean I've heard of the idea that people did horrible things to autistic kids claiming they were changelings, but I don't know if that actually happened.
@bluegreenphotophores:
I feel like it has to stem from the same place as the headcanon that Obi-Wan Kenobi means like No One child of No Clan.
@greenladybug76:
I think it's a combination of head-cannoning Stewjon as Space!Scotland, and force-sensitives as Changeling Children. There's a lot of Changeling Child stories that involve killing a Changeling in order to have the actual child returned.
@lyntergalactic:
there's actually a specific fic that it comes from--which i am not gonna type the title for rn because it's mandoa and i'm on mobile and HAH autocorrect--but it's this one by ziggyzigzagged. from there i think cjwritesnow used it in a fic and it spread from there it's a weird and fascinating bit of fanon to trace, honestly.
Where did the "Obi-Wan's parents tried to drown him in a river" headcanon even come from?
Like. What canon we do have (admittedly Legends), about his childhood is that he was pretty happy, and had a brother, and then he joined the Jedi. Nothing about the river headcanon!

Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we delve deeper into audio and music on Republic Commando, via our interview with David Collins and Jesse Harlin, the audio lead and composer for the game, respectively. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary.
I’m an amateur musician and a fan of film music, so the music development part was really interesting to me.
Other highlights (these start somewhere around 30-35 mins, didn’t look at the time stamp sorry):
“…almost The Hunt for Red October kind of male choir was a strong direction we had early on…” (Me, fanboying: aaa, it’s one of my all-time favourite movies! \o/ \o/ \o/)
“…19th century Russian patriotic music—darkly patriotic…”
“didgeridoo and taiko drums” (Me: my favourite things—besides Mando’a—on the sound track. Incidentally, I’m also a fan of Japanese percussion music lol.)
KASH-yyyk vs. ka-SHYYYK
“They’re all clones, they all sound the same—but that’s not nearly as interesting as what we ended up doing [giving the clones different personalities].”
“The music got reused recently in the Old Republic”
The language part is around 48:00-1:04
Harlin’s wife graduated as a linguist(!) around that time, so he had a handy linguist on standby to ask about sounds in different languages etc.
He did develop “a suite of sounds he liked” (that sounds like “a consistent phonology” to me)
Cody = Kote
Harlin is a singer, so he was very conscious of how to write music that can be sung (I’m also a singer, and I have indeed noted that Harlin’s music is well-written from a singer’s point of view, which is not always the case).
Harlin fanboying about Star Wars and what if we called the language Mandalorian???
Latin vowel sounds (I had made that connection) & Russian diphthongs (but not that one)
“I didn’t want to create Star Wars Klingon. It wasn’t going to be guttural and abrasive sounding language. I wanted it to have a sense of poetry.” (Me: yes! That’s what I appreciate about Mando’a! It’s a language of both warriors and poets.)
I made a transcript of the language part: if you can’t listen to this, hit me up.

It just occurred to me that in aay’han dogma doesn’t know mandoa. He doesn’t even refer to it as mandoa. He just calls them words he hears the arc troopers say. You’re killing me gaeasun.
Haha ok you've misunderstood me 🤣🤣🤣
Heres the passage in question:
“Yeah but they’re” -the next string of words out from Fives mouth Dogma has heard before, even though he doesn’t know their exact meaning. They’re words he only hears from ARC troopers- “ di’kutla decisions!
It's not mandoa, it's a bunch of foreign curses that ARC troopers end up learning through training. Fives is just swearing up a storm and Dogma hasnt been an arc ever so he has no idea what Fives is actually saying.
He knows some mandoa, I promise (he definitely knows vod, vodka and orivod)

hi i’d just like to ask what kote means if you don’t mind. i’ve seen fics that refer to cody as kote and the mandoa dictionary doesn’t offer up any translation other than glory?
hey! i’m not sure about canon but the fandom seems to have collectively agreed on cody naming himself or being named after the word and then anglicizing (or the basic equivalent) it to cody

Hi, I was curious of the 104th with Pong Krell as the General and Plo comes later AU. Is Plo concerned with Wolfpack's nervous attitude? Or if they screw up and the Pack freaks out, but then are confused by Plo's gentle reaction. Or how he risks his neck to save them? Sorry if this is loaded question or if you are done with this AU, I was just curious. Have a nice day/evening. :)
That’s totally ok! I haven’t thought about this in a while and it’s just the creative boost I need! I’ll apologize in advance this might be a lot more than you wanted!
When the transfer happens Plo notices something off about the Troops. Besides that they have no markings on their armor at all or distinctive hair cuts or tattoos..Everything they do is regimented and by the numbers. Sure that’s how Clones are trained but by now most have relaxed their habits especially after the Jedi got wary of saluting nearly 500 Troops a day. And yes there were always the ones that haven’t quite adapted, like Dogma and Echo over in the 501st, but even they weren’t this strict. The 104th marches in precise formation everywhere even to the mess hall and even their they sit by the numbers and eat in a precise methodical way. And Even when Clones from other units are resting or taking a break they’re training. He notices other things too, like how they only refer to anyone or themselves by rank and number. Or how they never speak a word of Mandoa. In combat the higher ranking officers have a habit of asking for orders or instructions when they should be obvious or when they would know better than him what to do. Wasn’t the advantage of a Clone army that they could think creatively and problem solve? But what Plo finds most disturbing is whenever he walks in the room with them he can feel their adrenaline and heart rate sky rocket so fast, if they weren’t so well disciplined, he was sure they would all be screaming. They weren’t just well trained, they were terrified.
He decides to try and ease their hearts and minds. He asks a Trooper how his day was going, hoping to show genuine concern and interest. What he got instead was a minute by minute detail of every single task and activity performed by the trooper from the moment he woke up to the present. He decides to ask a different way
“Did you do anything you enjoyed or that made you happy?” He can see the query has baffled the Trooper. That’s when his Commander steps in, CC 3636.
“You made record time on the obstacle course today, isn’t that right? That must have felt good?”
“Y-Yes Commander”. The Commander is standing oddly close to his Trooper, almost as if protecting him..
Clearly this will take some time.
I should stop there before this becomes a novel! Sorry I hope that wasn’t too much. Thanks so for the ask!

Tell us about Miss Bevii!!
I LOVE MISS BEVII
Bevii (pronounced bay-vee) was a Mandalorian foundling, she’s of the Nagai species (known for being twink-like and having big hair) and the name Bevii is a play on the Mandoa word “bev” which means needle because she’s a skinny, lanky lady. She was invited to be part of Jango’s Cuy’val Dar to train clones. Bevii was assigned to Tau Squad when they were about 6 (like 12-13 in clone years) after they lost one of their original squadmates and before Salvo joined them. Kal Skirata probably recommended her for the position of Tau Squad training sergeant/mom because of Bevii’s notoriously cold personality, and working with did Tau melt her icy heart a little - though she’d never admit it. She’s the clone mom I mentioned before who referred to Rooster as a stupid, pompous cockerel, but if she heard someone insult her boys she’d kill them with her bare hands.

That doesn't make any sense though parts of mandoa aren't gendered but it still is a gendered language
//Okay so this got me curious enough to double check what I thought I remembered, and anon if you see this please do send me some resources because what I found is largely what I have pictured below or mentioned in my previous post.
So Mando'a, which I admit to knowing little of though I have been trying to learn more, is a largely ungendered language when it comes to people. This is according to three or four sources I looked at. Just below I took a couple of pictures from one resource.
The first shows nouns, and as you can see it shows that it is often context or if the gender must be referred to. Since jedi are usually only willing to begin training for young children I doubt that sort of context would not really be used often so if Revan (as in my headcanon) heard it the words would seem less likely to be referring to them.
Tumblr media
The second highlights that pronouns are entirely gender neutral so he/him or she/her would be odd to someone raised in a primarily Mando'a speaking home. Not unheard of just odd.
Tumblr media
So going by this it seemed possible to me that as a child Revan could have not known or really understood pronouns as being gendered for a time and then not really cared or felt concerned by being called either until eventually it simply felt wrong to be called 'he' or 'him'.
That is just based on the research I have done, which I admit in not to the same extent most undoubtedly have done, and I am definitely interested in learning more or seeing other resources.

Robin
Robin couldn't stop glaring as he watched a group of civilian men spit on his captain and commander as they hauled new wood. He would kill to be able to punch those smug looks off their faces, but for now glaring would be fine.
He sifted through the cargo trying to find specific nails at a 3.6 inch size, used for a nearly completed house. He dug around for a moment longer, procrastinating going back to the demanding woman. He finally mustered the will power to go back and finish the roof.
" well it is about time! You clones are so slow, taking months to free us from those separatists-"
He sets the nails in his nail gun, the two other clones, DK and Buzz, shot him irritated looks. The woman loudly prattling on and on about how she would do things, as she has been doing for the past 6 hours.
" She hasn't shut up." DK whispers near tears.
" we've asked her to leave twice sense you left." Buzz adds.
Robin makes a gesture with his nail gun, " no one has to know," he says softly.
They grin back at him, Buzz nodding excitedly.
" -are you even listening to me?!"
They all look back down at her, " yes ma'am."
" what was the last thing I said?"
" are you even listening to me?!" Robin imitates her voice and tone and begins setting the boards in place.
" well I never have seen such disrespectful behavior from you... You... meat droids!"
The trio stops looking and stares at her, DK in shock, Buzz in disbelief, and Robin in fury. He clenched his jaw and starts to pack up their tools.
" where do you think you're going?"
Buzz hops down and helps pack muttering to himself in mandoa, DK follows face becoming calm. The woman raises her hand to grab one of them, robin swats her away. Turning on her, angry.
" listen up you pathetic excuse of a-" he starts.
He's grabbed by two pairs of arms, one covering his mouth and clutching his torso, the other toppling him over and lifting his legs. Buzz patted his mouth, " sorry ma'am he's a little angry. We will need to report this incident to our general however-"
" no. That won't be necessary just finish up my roof."
Robin squirms, and muffles out a retort. Buzz shakes his head, " we have direct orders to report any insult towards us."
On that final statement the duo carried robin back to recovery.
Robin fumes as he's lifted up, squirming around angrily. He starts to feel his chest clench.
" calm down robin"
" I'm calm! I'm perfectly calm." His breathing becomes heavy and labored, heart rate starting to escalate
Dk drops his feet as Buzz swings him into a bridal carry, starting to sprint full speed to the ship.
"try not to have another heart attack. Please." Buzz pants.
Robin wheezes, clutching his chest, struggling to time his breathing, " s' not that" he manages to get out.
Buzz skids into the med bay, whiskers taking robin and setting him on one of the beds, pushing an inhaler into his mouth. Robin sucks in, starting to get his breath back, he starts to relax as he gains the ability to breathe.
" hey birdy how are we doing." Whiskers says softly, rubbing his back.
He elbows him in response, " shut up loth cat."
Whiskers smiles, grabbing his data pad, " so this was either an asthma attack or anxiety attack. Were you mad."
Robin looks down, " only a little"
" were you yelled at?"
He seems to shrink, " She called us meat droids."
Whiskers hums and takes robins pulse, " this is the fourth time this week birdy."
" please I'm begging you call me robin"
" no. I'm reporting this to tha'hali. You're out of recovery missions for now"
" but-"
Whiskers flicks his nose, " no buts you're stuck right here."
Robin turns to fuming, whiskers pats his shoulder, "you and I both know that you can't handle stress like this, it's not good for your heart."
Robin groans, his reason for being in recovery. His heart was weak, he couldn't run for long due to breathing issues, and he had a trick knee, needles to say he was not good for battle. In fact he had died twice already sense entering recovery, whiskers reviving him both times. He shifted on the bed, feeling the exaustion set in.
" I'm going to hook you up to the oxygen."
He grimaces, " can I not?"
" not a choice."
He hands him the tubes connected to a small cart, robin begrudgingly sets them in his nose as whiskers turns it on.
" stay put birdy."
He grumbled in response as whiskers stepped out. Whiskers stormed over to the jedi, " we need to talk about Robin."
" what's wrong?"
" he's having breathing issues. Triggered by-"
" by what buzz was telling me. Don't worry, we're handling it."
Tha'hali gestures to the now empty cargo bay, " we've finished one house, that's our minimum. We have no obligation to stay, and I'd rather leave soon." Her ear twitches irritably, " we'll be leaving in 5 minutes."
Whiskers raises his brow, " did they-"
" I was refered to as a glow stick wielding war monger."
Whiskers snorts and turns back to the ship, " I'll start securing the med bay."
