every time i get a new fic idea i get more jealous of people who do things like have character spreadsheets and Actual Plot Outlines and beautiful accompanying playlists of the songs they listened to while writing. for my last fic i wrote and edited 42k words entirely non-linearly in my iphone notes while watching project runway repeats

your takes and explanations are always so nice and refreshing to see on my dashboard, thank you for giving a bit more insight into these things and explaining why obey me is the way it is! a lot of criticism is valid but sometimes i think people just don’t actually understand what kind of game they’re playing which makes reading the same takes rather tiring…
Thanks so much 🫰
I haven't ever really talked about it in much detail (mainly because I'm not contractually allowed to post very much company-specific info, aha) but working in the industry, particularly with live service mobile games, has given me a good amount of lived experience with how these games work and how they're made. So I like being able to offer a different perspective from the development and writing side of things!
You're right, there's always going to be valid criticism for any game or media, and OM is no exception. However, while it's no one's fault, you do sometimes see criticisms and complaints about things that don't actually have anything to do with Solmare. A common thing I see is people having grievances with the live service model, or the fundamental mechanics of gacha systems. While that's totally valid, a lot of people will misplace blame on the actual game itself (in this case, Obey Me! and OM: Nightbringer) instead of looking at the genre or medium as a whole.
And I don't blame anybody for that, especially when it's not common knowledge! But something I find myself telling people a lot is "well, that's an aspect of all gacha games, it's not unique to OM" or "that's an issue on an industry level, you'll find that happens with every live service game and not just OM"
But I'm really grateful that people like to read my long, rambling posts about game development! It means a lot to me 😅

When studying to code, especially as a beginner, it’s super nice to see how far you’ve come in the future, so wouldn’t it be nice to have a way to track your coding progress? I think so! I have some ideas as to how you can~
Keep a journal 📔
You can use a physical or digital journal to write down your coding goals, summarises what you worked on each day, and any challenges or successes you encountered! I have a physical bullet journal to add goals but I also have a Google Sheets spreadsheet to track the challenges I do and any moments of big achievements like when I finish a major project at work!
Use a task or project management tool 🔨
I work on a lot of projects in one go so I find these very useful! There are many tools available that allow you to create tasks and track your progress. Some popular options include Trello (which I personally use the app), Asana, and ATracker.
Use version control 🖥️
As you get into coding projects, you might of heard of version control - sounds huge but it isn’t! If you're working on a software project, you can use version control systems like Git to literally track your code changes and be able to see the history of your code! Mix that with GitHub and you have a real image of how your project has progressed!
Use a code timer ⏱️
There are tools out there that allows you to track how much time you spend on different tasks or projects - in minutes, hours, days and even the past month! This can help you identify areas where you're spending too much time, and identify ways to be more efficient. I’ve shared on here using Wakatime which even allows you to set daily coding time goals! It definitely helps me! Other timers include Toggl, Study Bunny and Focus Quest-Study Timer!
Share your progress with others 🤗
Consider sharing your progress with a mentor, friends and families, colleague, or an online community. Online communities are my best choice! Tumblr, Twitter, YouTube, your own blog website, anything! Discord is another fav, I’ll probably make a post of some Discord servers you could join that help people on programming! They’ve helped me a lot and I got to meet cool people, get inspired for new project ideas and just get to talk to people about programming, technology and even tech jobs!
━━━ ⋆⋅☆
Well, that’s all I have to share! Whether you're working on a personal project or part of a team, tracking your progress will help you stay on track and make the most of your time. Happy coding and have a nice day/night! 💻🤎

I've been very busy the last days but I'm happy to say that my project group and I finished our semester project and handed the main part in today. A few documents and such are still left to be finalised and submitted, but thankfully another guy from my team offered to take care of that😌 Next week we have project exhibition at our university which requires a bit of preparation but I think it will also be fun! I'll still have to work on my dreaded thesis so I might occasionally be absent or slow to respond but it feels good to get such a big thing out of my mind.
Honestly I've been feeling all over the place during the past months because even though it was fun, the project was a good amount of work. Also the thought of my thesis kept freaking me out and on some days I was feeling just straight up awful. I felt like I had barely time left for my hobbies like drawing or cosplaying which made me sad, on top of that guilt because I sometimes felt like I didn't have enough time for my friends. But I feel like it's going uphill again and things seem more manageable, I just need to stay on track now💪

i need to bitch about my job for a minute in the tags
#ok so a senior role was made available in my team that i could’ve applied for#and there’s two of us in the team so. yknow pretty certain that one of us would get it#it was sort of replacing someone who left who handled a fucktonne of work across two other teams i work with#and ultimately i decided not to apply for the job because 1. the other guy on my team has been there two years longer than i have#and 2. my health is fucking precarious#mental and physical. i already work slightly reduced hours to try and manage my chronic fatigue but even then i have frequent crashes#and whenever my workload gets too much i just shut down. like the worst stress response ever#so my coworker got the job and a hefty pay rise and im like good for him :)#and then he went on leave for 6 weeks so i got handed 60% of his workload#and when you get handed people’s projects you get a good insight into how they work and how they coordinate shit/write documents etc#and not only are these projects a piece of piss compared to the aid programme stuff i’ve been doing#his actual work is like?? not great#i know i’m a perfectionist and i put way too much effort into my documents and reports but#there’s no way this guy is being paid $30k more for this!!#so now i’m like why didn’t i fucking interview for the senior role!!#i have this terrible impostor syndrome even though i’ve been there a year and get good feedback on my projects#part of it because i’m 22 and i am constantly like how the fuck am i here with an arts degree. i don’t know Anything#but shit man. if this guy’s mediocre work is worth a senior role#i have had a couple of job offers with a decent pay bump which is still wild to me. you want to pay me WHAT#<- well aware this is a great ‘problem’ to have#anyway i think i need a pay rise. we’ve just had a mass exodus from our team. i reckon if i threatened to leave they would lift my salary?#but i don’t know if i want to blackmail my manager lmao
