A Single Album as a Grand Picture Story
Malice Mizer is finally releasing their 1st album “memoire.” This work is a complete concept album. What is the aim they have set?
In the visual rock scene numerous works are continuously released each month. However, the reality is that most bands releasing works in the form of CDs or videos are either affiliated with various labels or rely on the support of those labels to release their works operating under what is known as a sponsored system.
For example take Malice Mizer. They believe that the best way to express themselves is to cultivate their own field so they have been regularly hosting an event called “The Tragic Dinner” at Shinjuku Loft since last November involving themselves and young bands around them in the creation of a new scene. The guitarist MANA who responded to this interview saying: “We want to make Malice Mizer a brand. To do that it’s ideal to create everything by our own power.” This statement left a deep impression on me.
To further expand their field Malice Mizer will finally release their 1st album “memoire” on July 24 through the label they established, Midi:Nette. Moreover they have completed this album as a grand concept work where various landscapes are interwoven based on a single theme.
“Our aim is to evoke the sadness that lurks deep within humanity through our music. To achieve this, we established the concept of ‘nostalgic memories of the past’ as the basic theme of the album.”
Recently more indie bands have started to create concept albums. However in their case the total story across the six tracks is obvious and each track contains various situations, settings, and devices. For example, just considering the introduction of the album:
“In the first track, a piano piece, the same phrase is repeated over and over. The aim here is to have a repetitive phrase that resembles going round in a spiral staircase, serving as an introduction to the album's story, indicating that the journey into past memories is beginning.”
As mentioned earlier all six tracks included this time are crafted into a story as a single narrative. Moreover, “Each track establishes various scenes of memories from different countries, and to clearly express each member's image, each member plays the protagonist of the story for each song, reflecting it visually in the jacket.” This demonstrates their thorough commitment to concept work.
This is a truly remarkable product, where sound, visuals, and story are all beautifully intertwined into a single narrative.
PROFILE
Malice Mizer consists of five members: TETSU (Vocals), MANA (Guitar), KOZI (Synth), YU-KI (B), and KAMI (Drums). For inquiries regarding “memoire,” contact Midi Nette at 03-3781-6674.

"It's a damn good day to be alive." - Michael Clifford.
[Bahasa.]
Notes: You know the drill, this is for OA's mission.
---
[English.]
As the much-anticipated night approached, Michael eagerly prepared, carrying his beloved guitar as he stepped onto the stage. From his perspective, his eyes swept across the audience, stirring a mix of emotions that ranged from poignant to fervent spirits. The sudden illumination of stage lights, casting a glow on his enthusiastic face, promptly interrupted his brief reverie. There was no doubt that he was fully awake and ready for the moment.
Following Luke's warm greeting to the audience, Michael adeptly initiated the performance with the opening melody, creating tension and evoking emotions in the air. The pauses between the notes allowed for a moment of emphasis on the song "Ghost Of You," as it commenced resonating with the melodic vocals of Luke.
During that instant, a delighted expression lit up Michael's face. A deep sense of pride and gratitude surged within him as he sensed the positive energy emanating from the 5SOS Family, harmonizing together in the rendition of "Ghost Of You," seamlessly becoming a part of the enchanting musical journey.

Listen seeing the video of that girl recording herself learning the flute or what it was is just so inspiring bc you can see her getting better just through practice.
And like I’m def not getting in as much practice as I should or could but I can STILL feel myself getting better. And there’s something very satisfying of finding songs you love and slowly learning to play them just a little more.

Alright! I just finished about 4-5 hws and I'm tired. Anyways!
This is a continuation from the previous post "Types of Yuus".
(I should really start making that as a tag cause I suck at doing links)
Now then, We have Bnha!Yuu- I honestly like the thought of mind reading yuu and hearing stupid thoughts from the boys haha. Or other quirks. It's still not magic as it's part of their body and ability technically.
Time for me to explain! Basically, the plot is about how we have abilities, or rather "Quirks". Quirks have helped humans grow and advance in the society. But it mainly have three jobs once you have a quirk. The "Heroes", The "Support" and the "Villains".
And our main protagonist is a male who has no quirk but dreamed to become a hero.
I'll stop here, if you want to k ow more, watch "Boku no hero academia"/"My hero academia".
Witch!Yuu- I'm still new to the twst fandom but NRC is basically a wizard school at this point. And what I meant by witch!yuu I meant by "Wandering Witch: The journey of Elaina". I'm sorry but to this day, I'm a literal fan of her. Too bad I haven't read the novels yet.
This is about a story of a girl who idolize a witch author, who writes all about her journey around the world and published them into a book.
Wanting to be like her, Elaina works day and night to be like her idol. In which, she became a genius.
Being an apprentice, to a professional witch. Well, a traveling one. As her journey continues, as a spectator, her journal also grows. Wishing to be like her idol.
And I'll stop right here.
I'm still debating if I should even do this but!
Musician!Yuu- in which music is their magic. This is a completely, well. Somewhat original au? I mean, I found one on quotev and well, I don't wanna say that I copied their idea when I already talked to my friend about it for 5 months ago. I'm also pretty decent on quotev so yeah-
Using music as their magic meaning they will be types as well.
For singers, I can say that their vocals is their mana. For how long they can sing, or how strong their vocal is.
For instrument users, I can imagine that they use their stamina or rather, control on how long they can play or how strong their passion for music is? To be completely honest I'm still thinking about it but then again, imagine playing the violin for 4 hours straight seems to be not my cup of tea. (This is also because all those wonderful designs of instruments I saw on Pinterest and Google, damn you guys, I'm tempted into painting my guitar with stickers now.)
And well... Rappers. I saw on tiktok how rappers would be the strongest in the fantasy au cause of how fast they can chant out spells and they ain't wrong. If anything, I'm terrified. Imagine someone rapping "Ice blizzard", "Wind blade", "Raffire" and "Bind" at the same times while also saying "Black hole". How are we supposed to beat them?- their too fast- but I think how their mouth or vocal will last will be their "Mana". And how strong they will be if they clearly pronounced the spell in English (seeing as Japanese is Twisted wonderland's main language and they use English for their unique magic. Also because of those post about English is a dead language?) Hypothesis mic(?) Is gonna win haha- still scary-
And DJs. Their basically mages at this point. Using their own sound tracks, other voices (if there's consent) and etc. Instead of a floating book, it's a floating screen or CD disk. If they are more and more creative, their Mana. And if the song is really really good, that's how strong they are.
I'm just thinking about how sad songs are gonna be water spells, pop songs being wind, love songs being earth or nature, Rock and roll is fire, this concerts explains a lot. Then we have metal which is ice. And etc.
Pretty much like that so yeah- and I don't think this is magic considering that their not using Mana but rather their own "Mana".
Tokyorev!Yuu- ...deuce, epel, please— I can already see the chaos.. and lectures.. ha.
I can't really say much seeing as this is a new manga and not everyone have watched it yet.
A crybaby who gone back in time. Is also a delinquent. Gangs, Gang fights, and action.
Yup, that's all I can say. (I don't want my friend seeing me accidentally spoiling others and smacking my head-)
Dimensional Traveller!Yuu- I've once read a book about two pair of teens going through dimension to dimensions. Or Universes in this case seeing as they went from anime to anime.
I'm not really sure if this is accurate, but I'll try to make it as accurate as possible!
Dimensional Travellers are basically ppl who can go from dimension to dimension. They either change the plot or world, or they stay as a spectator and leave things grow or fall.
There's also skills and such, but that's supposed to be earn by experience. You could say, a constant static check?
I'm just saying that them walking out from the dark mirror while someone sorting themselves infront of the dark mirror is really funny and chaotic.
...I need sleep. Scratch that, I need to finish at least 3 chapters of this module aaaaa

Sorcerer "Kids World"
https://open.spotify.com/album/37ro4kbgaYMX7ffxPG1Zhj?si=D9dAlmgeSWWrctFUel7JVw&dl_branch=1
File Under: West Coast Vibes / Dancing On Waves
Release Date: June 24th, 2021
Working his mellow magic on the Growing Bin, Sorcerer entertains your inner child with eight tracks of instrumental west coast pop suitable for dancing, dreaming and surfing a wave or two.
While Basso sat in a Teutonic treehouse, feeding his head with the sounds of the woodland, Dan Judd danced on the sands of San Francisco’s Baker Beach. Stretching between them, like the world’s longest tin can radio, was the Dream Chimney. This legendary forum, run by Ryan Bishop, better known as The Beat Broker, helped to launch a thousand labels, and the Growing Bin is one of them – all hail the Chim!
Here, Dan, naturally mystic in his Sorcerer guise, satisfies all our sensory needs with a Kinder Surprise of sweet melodies, coastal cool and playful rhythms inspired by his children’s earliest responses to music. Following his feelings and avoiding overthinking, he creates open, enticing and accessible cuts; each living and breathing that mellow magic you only get on the West Coast.
‘Kids World’ kicks into gear with the spheric bass of ‘2000 Studio’, a bouncy embodiment of that spacious San Francisco sound. There’s a nod to nu disco but the dreamy dubiness takes the track much deeper, especially as those surf guitars start to detune in the summer heat. The breezy fretwork continues on ‘Disco Drums’, topping a wriggling groove tailor made for the terrace. Shades of rave refract through a healing crystal at the midpoint, encouraging al fresco dancing from sunrise to sunset. The A3 sees Sorcerer get into the groove of ‘Bahia Brothers’, rolling that rubberised B-line out of his own Paradise Garage before putting the top down for the carefree Balearic pop of ‘Spray Paint.’
The B-side glides into being via the night dubbing grooves of ‘Fire Feel’, a reverb laden journey though glassy tones, off beat perx and gorgeous chord progressions. Next up, the new wave inspired ‘Crunchy’ translates Sheffield’s daring synth pop into a wide eyed blast of psychedelic house, boosting our mana ahead of the loose limbed and light footed ‘First Wave’. Ringing guitars reference Ghanaian highlife, shimmering in the heat haze as Dan funks up the drum kit ready for the broken beat and blissed out energy of sundowning set closer ‘Escape Route’.

My favorite soundtracks from video games
Monkey Island: Main theme
What a suspenseful beginning. The slow buildup, the soft bongo, light percussion, and then.....BAM!!! All these beautiful instruments come together to create one of my favorite video game intros. It perfectly encapsulates the Monkey Island games and their aesthetic. In a humorous game inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean theme park ride, what better soundtrack could there be than this, a so-called “pirate reggae” style of music?
Secret of Mana: The Color of the Summer Sky
Fun and sweet town tunes are a staple of RPGs, Dragon Quest, Illusion of Gaia, Super Mario RPG, etc, they all have them. But what makes Secret of Mana’s special to me is nostalgia. This was one of the first games I played and actually got really far in it without my siblings' help. All of its music and locations are so special, but the first time i heard the town theme stands out. Going from the wild fighting monsters to this warm and colorful village feels great, it immediately puts you in a cheery mood and even the shopkeepers can’t help but dance to it.
And it becomes even more special when contrasted to Phantom and a Rose, the sad theme that plays when you’re forced to leave the village.
Katamari Damacy: Katamari Mambo
I recommend this soundtrack for when you feel tired, I'm almost 100% sure it will give you energy.
The whole Katamari OST is something truly unique, and that’s because that was the intention of the music director Yuu Miyake. He and his team had complete control of the sound design in the game, so they focused on making whatever sounded good and fitted best. This resulted in a shibuya-key style album with jazz and samba influences that features vocals by many j-pop artists and anime voice actors.
I love this album so much, every song is so different from the last one, but they still all feel cohesive. My favorite has to be Katamari Mambo, something about it is so addicting to listen to. Ka-tama-ri Mambo de~
Doom: All of it
You are the Doom Slayer, woken from your slumber and in a mission to brutally destroy every demon that crosses your path. The soundtrack that accompanies you in your journey? Industrial Metal.
It’s just perfect.
Breath of the Wild: Stables and Kass‘ Theme
Breath of the Wild is probably my favorite game of all time, and the sound design is one of the many reasons why I love it.
The stables theme is so soothing and comforting, when you hear it you immediately know that you’re safe and there are people around. Every time I traveled to a new location and suddenly heard the guitar and bongo I got so excited because I didn't expect a stable to be there. Like when i was in the snowy mountains, low on health and thinking that i was all alone and about to die, but then i heard the stable theme and rushed to get there. It really helps cement the idea that while it seems like Hyrule is desolate, there are still small communities here and there, doing their own thing.
Super Mario Galaxy: Rosalina in the Observatory 2
This game makes me emotional, even though it’s not very plot heavy (because it’s a Mario game), Rosalina’s backstory impacted me a lot when i first played this game years ago. Going into the observatory and hearing this song before knowing the whole story is nice, but listening to it knowing what happened adds something more emotional to it for me. The fact that the ship and the Lumas became Rosalina’s home make this song bittersweet. The observatory is where she tells her story of being left alone in the galaxy which is very sad, but it’s also where the Lumas gather around and remind her that she’s not all alone after all. And i think this tune encapsulates that feeling, a little melancholic but hopeful and uplifting, and i really like it.
Life is Strange: Mountains - Message to Bears
Every time I play this part of the game and this song starts playing I tear up. I love this song not because it makes me happy or feel good, but because of the pressure it puts on my chest. The rapid beat and overwhelming instrumental simulate the anxiousness you feel when desperately hoping that Rachel is alive. And the lyrics only add to that feeling; they repeat, over and over, a promise to run away to something better or at least different, but in the end it stays as only an unfulfilled promise.
Ib: Game Over
The song’s name is actually El Sueño de la Muñeca by Agustín Barrios. I just think it’s so random that the creator of the game decided to use this as the game over theme. It’s such a nice guitar composition and i’m glad i found out about it through Ib.
Silent Hill 4: The Room: Drops of shame and The Suicidal Clock Chime
Paranoia in song form. Two great compositions by Akira Yamaoka for a pretty good game (in my opinion). The atmosphere in these songs is so suffocating, it emanates despair and the feeling of someone being near. The soundtrack of Silent Hill is a pretty big reason for me not finishing the games, I get too scared. But I love listening to the OST whenever because it makes for good background music.
Animal Crossing: K.K. Metal.
Of course, animal crossing is known for it’s amazing songs, especially the ones by the humble superstar K.K. Slider. He’s given us bops such as Bubblegum K.K, Stale Cupcakes, Rockin’ K.K, among others. All of them performed on guitar and accompanied only by his beautiful vocals.
So what does he do when performing a metal song and he needs to shred like on an electric guitar but he doesn’t have one? He sings the arpeggios. And it would be the cutest thing ever, except him howling right after wins the prize.
Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja 5: Opening Theme
In the beginning I said the opening of Monkey Island might be my favorite game intro, but actually, the Ultimate Ninja 5 OP is a strong contender for the top spot. That piano and ominous deep vocals in the very beginning used to be my favorite thing about this game, and i would actually close and open the game just to see the intro cutscene with naruto emanating red light and transforming into his four tailed fox. And then there’s of course the explosion of classic naruto action music, but mixed with something darker and some beautiful piano melodies.
Pokemon Sun and Moon: Abandoned Thrifty Megamart
This was a really cool part in Pokemon Moon. The song by itself would sound good, but very normal and typical, so the effects make it so much better. The background supermarket static effect is great, and also the fact that from time to time the sound will stop working in one of your earbuds is a fun touch. It all makes for the perfect song to a spooky part in the game where at the end of the section you find the best pokemon of all creeping on you, Mimikyu.
Touhou Project 8: Imperishable Night: Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke and Immaterial and Missing Power: Doll Judgement
Touhou has too many good songs, but for the sake of not making this 4k words long i decided to only include two.
Fujiwara no Mokou is my favorite Touhou character and her theme song is equally as cool as her. A little soft and forgiving in certain parts, but fast and exciting in others. Like all Touhou enemy songs it perfectly fits her attack patterns and is incredibly rhythmic and catchy. I also really like the arrangements fans make of this song, they’re so talented and transform these themes into something so different.
And speaking of arrangements, IaMP’s Doll Judgement is a jazz version of Alice’s original theme exclusive to the fighting game. When i first played IaMP and heard this version i had to search for it on youtube because i liked it so much. It’s so smooth and a little theatrical, and it keeps the sound that made the original such a classic for fans, so much so that i might even like it better than the original.
There are many other songs from video games that i love, but i don’t think i can mention them all without making this post 10 pages long, so i’m going to leave it to here.

Hello there. I don't know if you all check this inbox, and this is a long shot...But I want to find some good soundtracks to listen to, and you three have good taste. If you have one, could you share a list of your music collections or some general recs?
Hi, thanks for keeping in touch! We stopped posting right when we went off to college, and since then, we haven’t really had the time to upload anything to Tumblr. That, and tumblr’s file size & FLAC restrictions make it a bit of pain to upload anything efficiently... Anyhoo. Happy to share my album collection! This list is a little bit of a mess, and seems to be organized half alphabetically and half in the order in which I added them to my hard drive, since I just pulled the folder list off my computer. I’ve bolded the albums that I really enjoy in their entirety and I tried my damndest not to highlight half the list. But just send me (EpsilonGenocide) a message if you wanted recs for a specific sound that you’re looking for. Hope this helps!  EpsilonGenocide’s Album List:

Trials of Mana Demo Impressions
The Bad
Hoo boy, this voice acting is something. I’ve become a lot softer on criticizing voice acting over time, accrediting the majority of bad performances to bad direction, but in this case I really think it’s a mix of lackluster direction and performance. I think Kevin is the prime example, where the actor is attempting to do the stilted caveman speak, but isn’t committing all the way. Reisz’s voice actress also has a handful of lines that sound like they were her reading the script for the first time and wasn’t sure how to inflect. The Japanese audio sounds a little better in terms of “feel”, but considering Square-Enix’s track record with good voice acting, this is slightly disappointing.
The new soundtrack is hit or miss. Some of the songs got the love and attention they deserve, like Where Angels Fear to Tread and Powell, but Left-Handed Wolf and Nuclear Fusion use some really crappy sounding electric guitar samples. I don’t feel compelled to switch over to the original soundtrack, but I’m glad the option is there.
I’ve done a lot of bitching about FE3H since its release for lackluster animations, but Trials of Mana is right up there with it. It’s a problem I notice in a lot of anime styled games where the way the characters move just doesn’t match up with the way they look, and that’s certainly the case here. What’s most confounding is how little facial emoting there is, but so many close ups on characters faces, highlighting exactly how little facial emoting there is.
All of these complaints are tied to the fact that this is definitely a medium budget game. It probably had more money to play with than the last few Tokyo RPG Factory games, but less than something like Octopath Traveler. I can’t really even be too mad about this considering the way the Secret of Mana remake turned out, because I was utterly convinced the options for a Seiken Densetsu 3 remake were something like that or nothing at all, but it is noticeable. But I can tell you where they probably spent the bulk of that money:
The Good
Combat is REALLY good!
All characters share a universal combo system. You have a weak and a strong attack, and they can be combined to either perform a repel attack (knock away a single enemy and interrupt them from attacking) or an area attack (self-explanatory). You can also string together three weak attacks, or charge up a single strong attack, and you even have some basic air combos. It’s simple, but it feels very good.
Because there’s now a proper combat system in place, your class skills are now essentially Super Moves. In the original, three/four hits would charge your meter enough so that you could do a slightly stronger attack. In the remake, you have a minor risk/reward system where using power attacks that require a little more commitment (especially charged power attacks) will reward you with more meter, but they also leave you prone to taking more damage. It’s terrifically implemented.
One of the biggest and best things about the combat system is the integration of MMO-style warning indicators. When an enemy is preparing to use a special ability or spell, a bright red indicator appears on the ground. They come in different shapes and sizes, and they gradually fill themselves in. Once full, the attack happens and if you’re still standing in it when it does, it’ll deal a ton of damage. This is where your dodge comes in: as far as I can tell, the dodge in Trials of Mana doesn’t have any invincibility frames like other action games, because the dodge is literally just to help you quickly evacuate from standing in bad. I’m thrilled to see MMO-style warning indicators make their way into something other than MMOs, and an action RPG feels like the perfect fit. Like, as much as I enjoyed the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo, it really feels like it could use something like this.
Not sure if this is limited to Hard Mode, but some enemies will be shielded, requiring you to use charged power attacks to break the shield before you can actually start dealing damage. I’m hoping it’s featured in at least Normal Mode, because it forces the player to not just mash weak attacks.
Now that I’m done gushing about combat: the character designs and general aesthetic of the game is also great. The main character designs all look great in 3D, and I’m glad a lot of minor characters have had their designs tweaked to make them stand out more, like the Beast King, Ludgar, and Bil & Ben. The environments are designed to match the characters in terms of color saturation, which makes every feel right.
The addition of a jump button has expanded out exploration to include some very light platforming. You’re incentivized to explore every nook and cranny not just of the wilderness but towns and cities to find treasure chests and loose items. The jump is a teensy bit floaty, but considering you don’t go very high and air combos don’t require precision positioning it all works perfectly well.
The map and objective markers are really welcome additions to the game, especially since multiple areas are considerably larger by virtue of being combined into one. However, if you’re a masochist, the game also includes the option to turn both of those off, so if you want to fumble around in the dark like the Super Nintendo original, you’re more than welcome to.
Finally, I love what they’ve done with the level up and skill system. You get exp bonuses in combat for fulfilling certain goals, like beating all the enemies within a certain timeframe, not taking damage, or using your class skill, which is another incentive for skillful play. Leveling up earns you points you can allocate towards your stat of choice, just like the original, but now hitting certain point totals will give you actual bonuses. The bonuses are either character specific- Charlotte gets one that causes her to gain meter whenever she uses a healing spell, for example- or “chain” bonuses, which you equip to one character but apply to the entire party. None of these (at least for the base classes) are tremendous and game changing, but I imagine these are going to be substantial for class changes.
The Rest
As expected, the Switch version runs worse than the PS4 and PC versions. I’m not an expert at distinguishing resolutions, but since the art style isn’t super photorealistic, the game looks quite good on the Switch outside of a handful of instances where textures popped in late. More importantly, the game is locked to 30 frames per second, compared to 60 on PS4 and up to 120 on PC. This isn’t as huge a deal as it could be since the game isn’t super reflex based the way other action games like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta are- even on hard mode you have adequate time to respond to enemy attacks- and I didn’t notice any severe framerate drops even during crowded battles or the boss fight, but the game definitely feels better at 60 FPS+.
The default movement speed feels a little slow, but you do have a dash. I get the impression that the game’s speed was designed around the combat first, which was probably the right decision.
I expressed a little concern after watching one of the gameplay demonstrations about the voice clips, and I hoped there wouldn’t be a voice clip after every combat encounter. Thankfully that appears to be the case. There are also different possible voice clips, and divided amongst three characters it seems like it won’t be grating, or at least not immediately.
Another thing I was worried about was the length/amount of disruptive animations, but in addition to only occurring on class skills and summons, there’s an option to disable animations entirely.
Some enemies will still explode into a pile of bones, which is just terrific.
You’re given the option to actually play through the unique opening segments of your chosen party members, as opposed to just seeing them in a brief flashback scene.
Speaking of the introductory segments, I love that they altered Kevin’s journey to Jadd so that instead of taking a boat he tries to swim across the ocean.
With the exception of some inter-party banter during gameplay, the script is exactly the same as the original version included in Collection of Mana, confirming my suspicion that the only reason we finally got CoM was because they were bringing this script over anyway. I’m ultimately glad that’s the case because I’m glad to have CoM, but there are certainly moments I wish they would have massaged out the script to accommodate for the fact that they can do much more with the story than on the Super Nintendo. It’s got me really curious about whether or not that newly announced post-game story is going to stick out like a sore thumb against the rest of the game.
If the opening credits are anything to go by, it looks like this game is being developed for Square-Enix by a company called “Xeen”. I can find literally no information on them whatsoever, so if they are a brand new studio, fucking big kudos to them.

TERRANIGMA ~SNES~ 1995
Tumblr media
For some games, it was no wonder why they never saw the light of day in America. For others, it was a true shame. Terranigma was the latter.
There are hardly words to express how wonderful and captivating this game is. A lost brother in the tides of Chrono Trigger, Illusion of Gaia, and Secret of Mana. Terranigma is simply beautiful. A treasure from beginning to end.
Tumblr media
The hero, Ark, must leave the comfort of his village and essentially resurrect the world from darkness and decay, one task at a time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The world is lush and vibrant. Capturing the SNES in all it's glory. I found myself more and more eager to traverse each area and find out what awaited me. A top quality soundtrack pushes you on towards new and magical places.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Personally, the real time fighting aspect is always a welcome change. You don't feel bogged down and the game feels more free flowing. There are plenty of nifty little moves to keep you happy.
Tumblr media
Bosses provide a fair share of challenge along your journey. Did I mention that they are simply legit cool?
Tumblr media
A peculiar yet interesting twist. You dive into a box to access your items, equip, etc. It adds another layer of charm to the gameplay. Pop out of the box and continue on.
Tumblr media
I felt engaged for hours. From wandering villanous towers, to scaling unforgiving cliffs, and to every beautiful crack in between. I couldn't help but wish I had been young again. To experience this tale in real time. I can only imagine the joy that would have consumed me. Or was I already too far into guitar and weed at that point? I doubt it.
Thank the stars that all of us can easily dive into Terranigma today still. I highly recommend that you do.
RATING- 9 (out of 10)

Digital Thoughts - Grandia Xtreme - PS2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Evann, our main protagonist, is recruited by the local Army to join a special task force designed to fight the “elemental disorders” currently threatening the world. The team sets off and journeys to the four ancient ruins in hopes of quelling this danger.
Tumblr media
Along the way Evann and the team encounter many friends and foes, including Kroitz, Evann's childhood rival. Kroitz (voiced by the one and only Mark Hamill) has his own intentions for obtaining the slabs in order to awaken a power he believes will give him absolute control. It’s up to you and your friends to prevent the world from falling into an elemental catastrophe and awakening the worst evil the world has yet to witness.
Tumblr media
Xtreme is bright, colorful and vivid. Each zone is full of vast detail from the basic interior designs of the hub town, to the vast monster filled dungeons. Enemy designs are fantastic and follow similar types from previous Grandia games such as goblins, floating starfish, beastmen, etc. Each are highly detailed polygons and have their own respective animations.
Tumblr media
Character models are also so well done – from the wild beast girl, a young Elvish thief, to the military brute, each offers a style that fits their personality. Special moves and magic spells are absolutely top notch here. Grandia games have always been great with over the top spells and moves and Xtreme does not disappoint.
Tumblr media
You can even go into a 1st person look around mode that allowed me to truly admire the wonderful art design and color work programmed into this game.
Tumblr media
Xtreme is a dungeon crawler at heart and a damn good one. Most of the core loop will be spent raiding elemental dungeons in search of loot, smashing enemies for experience, and defeating each end boss. Along the way you will discover rare items, light puzzles and environmental traps. Weapons and armor are vast and varied with many dropped or stolen with special properties and elemental bonuses.
Tumblr media
Each playable characters have their own special moves called “Arts” which can be combined into double, triple and even quadruple techs. Mana Eggs return once again and are better than ever: Each egg can be combined with another to create exciting and rare combinations which not only unlocks higher tier or new spells but stronger versions that cost less time to cast, more hits and area of effect.
Tumblr media
Xtreme also has a deep skill system through the use of skill books. With this, you can unlock a massive variety of helpful support abilities to equip on your characters. Skills such as attack boost, increased stealing chance, movement speed increase etc allow you to truly customize your team to your personal tastes.
Tumblr media
“Theme of Xtreme” is quite fitting for such a grand adventure. It has a sweeping and grandiose melody that fits right into the opening cinematic while retaining that signature Grandia sound.
“Theme of Rocca” will be heard quite often as it’s the main theme of the hub town. It has a funky, jazzy, high energy bossa nova sound that goes through quite a few variations along the life of the track. It never got on my nerves and was always refreshing to come back to after a long dungeon grind session. “Good Meal” is the Xtreme’s version of the classic dinner time theme known throughout the Grandia series. I have to say this is my least favorite version of it, but it does have some merits. I’m just glad to see its tradition continued even in this game.
Tumblr media
Let’s talk combat. Grandia Xtreme has absolutely fantastic battle themes! “Combat 1” is a flamenco guitar mixed with trumpets, horns, snappy drums, and wonderful backup guitars. It’s so great that even if I hear it over and over and over I never tire as it simply prepares one for an energetic fight against any kind of beast. It ranks quite high in my personal echelon of greatest fighting battle themes of all time. “Combat 2” is played when your team is ambushed by the enemy. It has a rock guitar lead, with great synth leads. “Combat 3” is wonderful. A fitting and high energy boss theme. Riffing guitars, pulsing drums, and a gritty synth that has an excellent solo mid-way through the song. “Combat 4” “Illusory Meadow” is a strange departure from most dungeon themes. It’s a somber, soothing and reflective piece that is absolutely beautiful.
Tumblr media
There is an Xtreme (ha!) amount of content post-game; extra dungeons, searching for rare weapons, armor, mana eggs, skills and techniques, mini games, and maximizing each party members’ levels. This is a game that truly gives you things to do!
Tumblr media
Grandia Xtreme is a fantastic game. It currently sits at the top of my all-time favorite in the Grandia series. It may not have the deepest story, but what it lacks in plot is made up by the sheer staggering amount of content within. You can lose hours upon hours while dungeon diving in search of eggs, weapons, armors, skills, discovering new technique combinations, spells and farming endless enemies. Combine that with the cheesy over the top voice acting, beautiful saturated colors and a wonderful soundtrack and you have a game that will keep you playing for quite a long time.

Kovacs The Hun - Mirror World (The Content Label)
8DPromo · Kovacs The Hun - Mirror World (The Content Label)
The Content Label travels to Budapest to enlist Kovacs the Hun, for an evocative new album titled Mirror World. Born Nándor Kürtössy in the northern Hungarian town Balassagyarmat, Kovacs is known for his Mana Mana Records imprint, his groundbreaking album Five Finger Discount under the name Savages, and his projects Savages y Suefo and Vega Ass. A talented trumpet player, Kovacs dips into a well of varied musical styles for Mirror World. In his sonic palette, hip hop, jazz, and eerie soundtracks mix colorfully with experimental treatments and European musical influences. The Mirror World reflects all of Kovacs' fascinations — sounds and genres coming together on a collective surface. At times, the Mirror World resembles chamber jazz — or, perhaps, ‘murder jazz’ — with brushed drums, lurking horns, and cunning keys providing the backbone. Flavored drops of percussion, turntable scratches, or rhythm hints glimpse at contemporary roots, but Kovacs presents something that’s outside-of-time. He stretches out on the instrumental tracks, displaying moods that move freely from ominous to reassuring. Guest artists add to this bubbling concoction: jazz musician Andras Wohorn adds instrumentation to the creeping strut of “Manimals” and “Glimpse of Hope,” The Audible One drops urgent verses on “Phoney,” guitarist Marton Suto plays spacious guitar on the worldly “The Countdown,” and MC/poets Guante and See More Perspective inject social commentary into “Long March.” Kovacs' Mirror World is a distinctive statement, not quite sounding like anything else. The album’s ten tracks, impeccably produced and musically proficient, are an adventure in listening. Embark now on a sonic journey.
Danny Ward (Moodymanc) – “I really like this release. Great vibes all around.” Jaymz Nylon (Nylon Recordings) – “This LP is a crucial piece of music.” Kid Loco (Flor) – “Brilliant & Haunting. This is a really good record.” Mr. Bristow (Subtek) – “Dusty & Crunchy – just the way I like it. Great work!” Quincy Jointz (Ibiza Global Radio) – “Nice one. I like Phoney and New Dawn Coming.” Crate Invader (Point Blank FM London) – “This is a work of genius.” Floored Capri (Kane FM) – “This has an almost spiritual, cosmic jazz kinda vibe. Really feeling it.” Dr. Best (Radio Z, Germany) – “Wow, this is a really nice album.” Linos Pascal (Linos On Canvas Radio Show) – “Full support from Greece!” Jon Fugler (XLNT Radio Show) - “This is good, quite outstanding actually. Almost impossible to date, it’s quite unique, and has been on repeat here.”

"Real bands save fans, real fans save bands." - Michael Clifford.
[Bahasa.]
Notes: You know the drill, this is for OA's mission.
"Real bands save fans, real fans save bands."
---
[English.]
As the morning descended, Michael sat serenely on his porch, accompanied by his dependable guitar. This time, he chose the acoustic guitar, intending to unwind before diving into the excitement of the festival night ahead with his fellow 5SOS members. Memories from Michael's youth suddenly emerged, transporting him back to an era when the desire to become a skilled guitarist completely captivated him. The journey to reach this point was undoubtedly a long one, but every stride played a role in shaping him into the person he is now known as.
Disrupting Michael's daydream, his phone chimed with a notification. The message in the 5SOS group chat, courtesy of Ashton, suggested an early arrival and the idea of spending some enjoyable moments together before the evening event. Michael responded promptly and positively in the group chat, swiftly preparing himself for the journey to the location Ashton had recently shared.
On this occasion, Michael chose to take the wheel solo, deliberately creating a space for introspection and personal time. The car resonated with songs by 5SOS, spanning from their initial releases to the most recent, evoking a deep sense of nostalgia. A gentle smile graced his face as he reflected on the challenges and triumphs that brought him to this juncture.
"Real bands save fans, real fans save bands."
The tweet flashed into his mind like a sudden memory. It was a statement he had previously shared, initiating discussions and holding significant meaning regarding the bond between a band and its fans. Michael contemplated once more on how both entities contribute to each other's salvation, as they rightfully should. He felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the support and acceptance extended by the 5SOS Family and 5SOS themselves.

So I decided to turn my New Year’s resolution of learning an instrument into reality... and got a guitar.
I know nothing of music.
But I practiced for an hour (including tuning it best I could) with the help of youtube videos and I’m pretty excited for everything, ngl. I can’t wait to be able to play my first song, no matter how basic. Even if all I know now is four chords.

memorable and overall funny camp camp quotes
well…after 8 HOURS, i’ve finally rewatched the camp camp series for almost the 5th time. and boy, was it agonizing to say the least. nevertheless, it felt very rewarding after i finished gathering all the quotes together.
ill be updating this as new episodes are released but these are the ones out to the public so far (not including the new ones released on the rooster teeth website as i will wait until its posted on youtube).
it’s under the cut because, oh boy, is this LONG;
Episode 1, Escape From Camp Campbell
“Can you believe it, Max? We’re getting not one! not three! but two new campers today!” “Yup! it’s really truly horrifying.”
“I’m not here to make friends, David! I’m here because camp is where kids are sent when their parents don’t wanna deal with them. Why do you think we return the favor when they hit seventy?”
“Hang on a sec, what are you even doing out here?” “Well, it’s definitely not because the bus only comes from the city to drop off and pick up campers and so far seems to be my only reasonable method of escaping this fucking nightmare of a camp. Definitely not that.” “Heeey…language.”
“Suck a dic-” “All I want is for you kids to have as much fun as I did when I was a Campbell camper! Is that really too much to ask?” “I refuse to believe someone as happy as you can possibly exist.”
“No, silly! This is adventure camp! Ad-vent-ure! My mom said so! Unless she was lying…again. Sorry about that hand by the way, just exerting dominance, you know how it goes.”
“Max, you are not leaving my side for the rest of the day!” “We’ll see about that, CAMP. MAN.”
“Tell ‘em just how much you love it, Max!” “See, that’s the sad thing…he still actually thinks that I love it.”
“Gooood morning, Gwen!” “MOTHERFUCKER!”
“Nurf, you don’t crank shit! Get down from there Space Kid!”
“What about that astronaut kid?” “Astronauts, the wannabe jocks of the scientific community? Please.”
“Yeah, so far every attempt to answer our questions just raises more questions.” “Hey, good for you! You’re starting to catch on!”
“[Pulling out guitar] Well, I’m glad you asked, because I have a little song that I can sing–” “No.” “[Putting back guitar] When Gwen’s not around.”
“You are the bane of my existence.”
“This is bullshit!” “Woah, check out the balls on new kid.” “[Looking down at her crotch] Where?”
“Oh god, it’s coming back, the crippling anxiety and regret.”
“Why would you help us?” “I’m an agent of chaos.”
“Oh no. I hope YOU learned, David! I hope you learned that before today, you only had one little bastard to deal with. But now you’ve got three."
Episode 2, Mascot
"Oh, he talked! Did you hear that?!” “Are you a gypsy?” “Uhhh…”
“[After just flinging the camp mascot to the next island with a huge rock instead of hitting David] Aw, man…That was supposed to kill you.”
“Well, Max, we were going to make hand-made ice cream, but someone killed our mascot and now we need a new one BECAUSE EVERY GOOD CAMP HAS A MASCOT, MAX!”
“Lady-sickness. My mom used to get that all the time.” “How do you cure it?” “EDGE CLOSER TO DEATH.”
“Calm down, it’ll be fine. Besides, anything’s better than hanging with DAVID."
"Sorry everyone, just…really overwhelmed by all this friendship right now.”
“What’s WRONG?! I wanted to spend my summer in an air conditioned laboratory! Not walking around a future Wal-Mart parking lot!” “Aw, come on, Neil! Nature can be your friend if you just give it a chance!” “…There’s a raccoon trying to scavenge Nerris.”
“It’s resistent to charms!” “Nerris! Play dead!” “I’m out of mana!"
"Uh…this looks like the place teenagers go to get stabbed.” “…Probably.”
“Hey, so, how’d you lose that hand anyway?” “[unintelligible mumble] JEWS [unintelligible mumble]” “…I feel like you should be more specific.”
“[Sigh] Well, I guess Nikki was right. Enjoy wearing my skin.”
“[After killing a squirrel] Mascot.” “DUDE! YOU FUCKING KILLED IT!” “…Oh.”
“[Aggressively killing animals] I AM THE KING NOW! THE THRONE IS MINE!"
"Wh-Where’d it go?! Bring it back!” “Oh…I don’t know how. This is kinda why I’m here.”
“Where do we go now?!” “I don’t know! This was a really bad idea in hindsight!”
“I WANT A VIKING’S FUNERAL! LIGHT ME UP!”
“…Why do you always have to make things weird and complicated?” “Well, I mean, I think this is all pretty normal…”
“Does this mean we’ll be the Camp Campbell Platties?!” “No, I don’t think so.”
"…What about the pussies?“ "Definitely not!” “Yeah, I like that!” “Pussies for life.”
“…So what’s with the Quartermaster and Jews?”
Episode 3, Scout’s Dishonor
“Ah…another wonderful day at Camp Campbell. All that’s left to do now is recharge with a full eight hours of lying in bed…awake! Waiting for tomorrow!”
“Alright, guys, our first attempt to bust out of this god-forsaken hellhole didn’t work.”
“So…what are you gonna do on the outside?” “Probably live with the animals. Try and get raised by wolves, maybe work my way up to alpha. Pee on stuff.”
“I think I’ll go to my dad’s house and tell him that mom sent me to an abusive summer camp. Pretend to like him more so she’ll try to buy back my love." "That’s really dark, Neil.”
“Where are we?” “Where happiness goes to DIE.”
“WHY DO YOU KEEP HITTING ME?! AND WHY IS IT ONLY CLOUDY OVER YOUR SIDE OF THE LAKE?!”
“God, your face is gross.” “…What…?” “Oh, sorry, that just slipped out…” “Dude…” “Sorry… I know… That was mean.” “It really was…”
“Oh, we don’t kidnap campers. That’d be immoral.” “THAT GUY LITERALLY STABBED ME IN THE BACK!”
“Neeancy, boys are supposed to be tough.” “And rugged.” “And if they pee in you, you get pregnant!”
“Y'all are some ignorant fucking cunts!”
“[Dreamily]…he can pee in me anytime.” “Tabii seriously, what the fuck?!”
“That was super gay.” “We JUST learned a lesson about stereotyping!”
“You know, maybe I don’t hate Camp Campbell, maybe I hate EVERYTHING."
Episode 4, Camp Cool Kidz
"This sucks…This is the kind of peasant work my parents left their home country to avoid."
"That’s fucking stupid, nicknames don’t make you cool.” “Pssh, spoken like a true first-part nicknamer.”
“No one’s TOO cool to talk to. Even cool kids take giant, uncomfortable shits from time to time. Helps remind you that we’re all equal.”
“Oh, maybe he’ll give us a raise! Or, tell me I’m like the son he never had!” “…Or explain why he’s wanted by the government.” “Or that. Yeah, there’s that."
"WE GOT OURSELVES AN UPRISIN’!”
“Max! I am very disappointed in you for this behavior! But I’m also torn, because you were clearly paying attention during knot-tying class!”
“This is just like Le Mis! Ah, I love it!” “Don’t make this lame, Preston.”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold the hell up! Did you nerds forget who revolutionized this place?! I should be leading you! Not "x-treme sports barbie” over here!“
"Rage-against-the-machine-fight-the-power-9/11!” “Progressive buzzwords can’t save you now.”
“Like the minutemen of the Revolution, we will fight for our independence!” “Minuteman…mommy calls daddy that when they argue.”
“I’m not sure I’m comfortable with this. It’s only been a few hours and we’ve already gone shirtless!”
“Aw, man! Sooo uncool.” “MURDER HIM!”
“What are you kids doing?!” “We’re gonna kill Space Kid!”
“You guys are here to rescue me?!” “No! Shut up David!” “Aw…”
“No fighting! Violence never solves anything!” “STAB HER, BITCH!”
“OH GOD! SOMEONE STOP-DROP-AND-ROLL ME!”
Episode 5, Journey to Spooky Island
“I was VERY innocent and impressionable back then!” “…So, last week?”
“What’s scary is how much I wanna kill myself right now.”
“So help me if this involves vampire romance.” “I-It could’ve been werewolves. You don’t know!”
“Here’s a horror story, go look at the job market you’re dealing with after this camp shuts down!”
“[After a squirrel jumps out of Space Kid’s spacesuit] Wait a minute! How is it that you aren’t even phased by that?!” “Might’ve helped if I hadn’t put it in his suit to begin with.”
“Wh-what do you think about that moaning and wailing?” “Pssh, it’s just teenagers from that church camp working on those repressions again. Not that I know anything about it, just being a kid and all.”
“So…No dead campers then?” “Nope! We’re good!” “Damn.”
“What’s with space case?” “Squirrel-splosion.”
“Ah…So the revolution has begun…”
“Pssh, ghosts don’t exist. You die, and then you’re faced with eternal nothingness. It’s gonna be great.”
“HOW DO YOU KNOW?! YOU’VE NEVER DIED!”
“We’ll see who’s yawning when we’re all DEAD!” “Why would we…?”
“That seems redundant.” “Yeah, and I think endangered…”
“I AM NOT ABOUT THIS SHIT, NIKKI! SCIENCE HAS IT’S LIMITS!” “Don’t be so naive, this is mild experimentation at best.”
“You know what this is? Proof that the founder of Camp Campbell is a rich piece of shit with terrible morals and who also potentially kills people! …ALL THINGS I WAS ALREADY PRETTY SURE OF!”
“But the monsters! The wails! You can’t explain that!” “Actually…” “THE HELL I CAN’T!”
“Guess that goes to show that sometimes, the only thing scarier than monsters and ghosts…is real life. Specifically old people having sex. Weird, kinky sex. In a dungeon. Boy, that is…that is some dark shit.”
Episode 6, Reigny Day
“Under my rule, I WILL MAKE CAMP CAMPBELL GREAT AGAIN” “[Thinking] This is probably fine.”
“WHAT DID YOU DO WITH NEIL, NURF? SHOVE HIM IN A LOCKER? MAKE HIM PROM QUEEN, ONLY TO COVER HIM IN BLOOD?”
“You seem pretty confident about that. Where were you on the night of-” “Shut up, let’s go find him.”
“Yeah? What did you think I meant? I’m not some kind of secret police or something.”
“[Nervously] All right kiddos, why don’t we take this conversation somewhere else, like another room! Or another camp!”
“We shall make an example of him! Let the hunt begin!” “[Thinking] This is still fine.”
“[After Preston destroys the floorboards with a crowbar] This has escalated quickly.”
“[Thinking, after getting nervous about the judges] This is no longer fine.”
“[Thinking] I can’t believe I lost to Dolph, he isn’t even a counselor!” “[Thinking] Plus he really looks like Hitler.”
Episode 7, Romeo & Juliet II: Love Resurrected
“Please, the theater demands your utmost respect-” “[Through megaphone] SHUT YOUR YAPS, IT’S TIME FOR THE PLAY!” “Ahem, thank you Gwen.” “[Through megaphone] DON’T MENTION IT!”
“Y'know, Juliet should’ve done karate instead of kissing boys. HIYAH! Maybe she wouldn’t have died then.”
“Has anyone seen my phone? I must have dropped it while doing my smile exercises.” “Don’t admit to that…”
“Guuys, you’re just adding to my anxiety! If you don’t return the phone, I’m going to have a panic attack, and that’s on you!”
“Yo, did someone say black magic?” “[Facepalming] Amateurs!”
“Thanks for your contribution, an inanimate object stuffed with hay could have acted better! [Turning to the platypus] Platypus, you’re doing great! Stole the scene! Keep it up!”
“Alright people, get your SHIT together!”
“You’re up next, break a leg, buddy.” “You’re right! If I’m injured, I can’t preform! Hit me! Hit me hard! It’s gotta look convincing!”
“Our love is forbidden just like Romeo and Juliet’s but we will be together even if it costs us our lives. UGH! It’s so romantic, I wanna die!” “He called us cunts last time he saw us.”
“I’m gonna make that kissing scene so hot, it’ll be rated TV Y 7.”
“It appears, my son, in her sorrow, she killed herself.” “Nooo! [Seinfeld music]”
“Ugh. Why is he so sweaty? Robots can’t sweat. THIS ISN’T CANON!”
“I don’t know who this BITCH is, but she is KILLING IT! AH!”
“I need to stop this!” “Why? This is awesome! Whoo! You go girl!”
“The theater! The cruelest mistress of all! My career! Like the mistakes of so many teenage girls, has been aborted.”
“Oh, nobody plays Bonquisha like that!” “[In distance] Kick his ass!”
“What about me? Where’s MY apology?” “I’m gonna be honest, I’m not sure who you are.”
“[Holding up a picture of Cameron Campbell] Have you seen this man?” “Oh, uh, I’ve been told to tell you no.”
“They don’t give Oscars for stage performances.” “That’s how good it was.”
Episode 8, Into Town
“What did I say? I said don’t do fire safety camp and political history camp in the same day unless you reeeeaaally want it to turn into riot control camp."
"You’re still on fire, btw!” “Thank you.”
“Eyy, we’re talking here!” “The moon landings were a hoax filmed in Area 51 orchestrated by the government as a publicity stunt designed to humiliate the Russians in the space race!” “Noooooo! No! I can’t hear you! I can’t hear you! I can’t hear you!”
“Ah! Sweet 22.2 degrees Celsius, here we come!” “You idiot! This isn’t about air conditioning!”
“Just what exactly do you think he’s into?” “Hookers and blow!” “[Simultaneously] WHAT?!”
“Neil, you go be Neil in the nerd shop. Just stay here and keep an eye on the wagon. Get ready to haul ass if you see David about to leave.”
“Eeny-meeny-miny-mo, what lame place did David go…in?”
“Don’t serve your kind here.” “Your kind? Your kind?! Care to be more specific, sir? I’m calling you out!” “Kids.” “Oh, well that’s totally understandable.”
“Him? Yeahh, he’s a bit on edge now, isn’t he? Kept saying something about how it was all some kid’s fault.” “I know what you’re thinking. You’re totally right.”
“So, he come here often? Is he a sad drunk? Happy drunk? Gay drunk?”
“He beat a women?! David, you unbelievable bastard, I didn’t know you had it in you!”
“[Coughing] Max? I think I’m dying.”
“[To Max] Don’t come back. [To Nikki] Come back when you’re 18.”
“Yeah, but I didn’t wanna drive him to murder! I just wanted to show him that his entire philosophical outlook on life is flawed and that the fundamental beliefs and ideologies he holds so dearly are trivial so that he’ll start crying himself to sleep like the rest of us! I’m not a monster!”
“You sick bastard! Your getaway from the camp is TO GO CAMPING?!”
“Just. Kill us!”
Episode 9, David Gets Hard
“FUCK YEAH, SCARE ME STRAIGHT!”
“Well, we’re gonna learn that little shit some manners, David! Because we are contractually obligated to!"
"After all, there’s only one camper at Camp Campbell worse than him, and it’s me.”
“What do you want?” “Double desert, no activities for a week, and David’s social security number.” “Done.” “Gwen!” “SHUT UP, DAVID!” “Okay…”
“Today’s the day I get hard!” “Okay, maybe we don’t phrase it like that…” “Oh no! Rule 1: no backing down! Look out, world! I’m hard and I’m coming! Whether he likes it or not, Nurf is gonna let me in!”
“…So does he want to help Nurf or fuck him?"
"You’re pathetic.” “And getting blood on my boot.”
“No, no! You’re being positive again! Gwen’s the fucking worst! She slacks off, reads garbage and has no idea what she’s doing with her life!” “[Angrily] What?”
"There’s no time-travelling doctor coming to save you Gwen! Get your shit together!“
"Right! I know that’s probably hard to hear!” “No.” “And may have even been a little too far!” “Not at all” “But by golly, it seems to me you’ve never been very polite to anyone!” “[Muttering] God damn it.”
“Man, he is…way more fucked up than I thought.”
“[Sarcastically] Oops, didn’t see you there! [Normally] Just kidding, I was fully aware of the situation. I’m just acting out for attention. That being said, I do think I need corrective lenses, my mom just won’t take me."
"Oh, so we’re doing the whole Freudian thing now? Everyone wants to fuck their own mom, get over it!”
“So, what are you gonna do now?” “STAB MY DAD!” “NO! What?! Why?!”
“What do you expect? I’m just a kid! Eat my farts, butt-nut!”
“Well, I guess it turns out at the end of the day…sometimes you just gotta hit kids.”
Episode 10, Mind Freakers
“Sure, Harrison, that’s it. It’s certainly not because I believe in the fundamental laws of everything in existence which goes against the slightest chance of magic even being possible.”
“Get rekt, Harrison. Why don’t you do a real magic trick if you’re so good.”
“Oh! You just got Abraca-OWNED, Max!”
“Yes, and it would’ve been even better if it had happened to Neil as I intended, but you get the idea. Magic!”
“I do NOT feel okay!”
“It’s not like I’m gonna loose sleep over it. [Later that night] Shit.”
“Yeah! I believe! Cut me in half! I’ll be fine! …I’ll be fine? I’ll be fine!”
“Okay, Neil. I got you, fam.” “I don’t know what that means, but thank you.”
“How does Harrison have the Gaul to do something so hurtful, ya know?” “Yeah, it’s kinda shitty. I feel-” “It’s like he doesn’t even care how this affects ME!” “You?!” “Yeah! How can he be so selfish?”
“I don’t know, Neil. There’s still so much I need to learn. I gotta reach level 4 and I haven’t even been sorted into a house yet.”
“Just proving that any idiot with half a brain can do that trick you pulled off yesterday.” “Wait, are…are you calling yourself an idiot, Neil?” “SHUT UP SPACE KID.”
“YOU SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH, HARRISON!”
“The only thing I’m killing is your hocus-pocus bullshit, Harrison!”
“And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the greatest trick of all. Getting a cynical, close-minded asshole to believe in magic!"
Episode 11, Camporee
"Guess who’s got two thumbs, diplomatic immunity and is here to host the annual Lake Lilac CAMPOREE?! This guy!”
“David, what the hell! No one told us about this!” “We’ve literally been telling you about it everyday for weeks.” “Yeah, but we never listen to you guys! Put up flyers or something.”
“Darn it, Teddy, you KNOW I’ve got a crippling gambling addiction!”
“Yo, David! I think I speak for all of us when I say that I don’t wanna become some fascist military peon!” “[Raising his hand] He does not speak for all of us.”
“BOO! Give us actual advice!”
“[Nervously] We just, uh, you know gotta believe in ourselves!” “Nope, we’re boned.”
“Oh, Jesus Christ! Campers, we are winning that FUCKING trophy!”
“[Innocently] Kill.”
Episode 12, The Order of the Sparrow
“Gwen, why is David dressed like a turkey?” “Because he’s fucking David, Nikki, you’ve been here long enough to figure that out.”
“Wow, that is racist.” “Seriously, are you offended?”
“[Whining] Do we have to?” “No, but-” “WAIT! Nevermind! It’s mandatory!”
“Tell us now, turkey man!”
“I can be nice! I’m the nicest!”
“David! You know me! You know I love nature! You know if I could, I would have BABIES with nature!”
“Resistance is futile, turkey man!”
“David. Witness me. Witness my love for nature! [Tries kissing platypus but it bites him instead] Ow! You whore! Let me love you, god damn it!”
“I can’t believe I frenched a platypus for this!”
“Life sucks. And we live in a world of desensitized, apathetic assholes. Why don’t you just get with the program and stop giving a shit.”
“That’s why I’ll never stop trying, because somebody fucking has to.”
“Wake up, buttercup!” “Nikki! No more arrows!” “You can’t control me, white devil!”
“Alright, I fixed it. Everybody hurry up and…ah, shit, he’s awake.”
“Max? Did you-” “DO NOT look too deeply into this. You suck, this world sucks, and one day we’re all gonna die and none of it will matter but if we didn’t do this, I’m pretty sure you’d kill yourself or something.” “[Sniffling] Oh, Max…” “Or shoot up the camp. I dunno, it was a possibility.”
Season 2, Episode 1, Cult Camp
“[Bursting through the door] Goooood morning, David!” “Goood morning, Gwen! Wait, this feels backwards.” “Yep!”
“But today’s the day!” “[Gasp] You’ve realized your love of Camp Campbell and everything it stands for?” “[Happily] HELL NO!”
“Ha, are pulling my leg?” “No leg-pulling here, but we are keen on handshakes!”
“You know, I think now is the perfect time to use my vacation days.” “[Simultaneously] Aw, Gwen. Are you sure?”
“[Picking on Max after he raises his hand] Yes, Max.” “[Points at Daniel] Who the fuck is that?” “Why, what an excellent question!”
“You’ve got to be shitting me.” “Whoa, watch the language there little fella!”
“I don’t really know what you’re selling here, Daniel…but I am BUYING IT!”
“Oh my fuck, he’s ACTUALLY- [Banging on David’s door] A CULTIST! YOU HIRED A FUCKING CULTIST, YOU IDIOT!”
“Again with these cult jokes, Max? Please.” “He gave everyone a "de-toxification” diet then started spouting off Latin from a book with a pentagram!“ "He’s bilingual AND cares about nutrition?!”
“[Sweetly] Hey, David?” “Yes, Nikki?” “WAKE UP AND SMELL THE KOOL-AID!”
“I would just like to point out the fucked-up implications of specifically YOU [points at Dolph] putting specifically ME [points at himself (Neil)] into a gas chamber.”
“I love you, Daniel!” “[Gasp] But…That’s not right! Max doesn’t love anything!”
“Poor guy, must have been some bad fruit punch.” “[Sigh] You’re a moron.”
Season 2, Episode 2, Anti-Social Network
“Nurf, leave me alone, or so help me, I will post photoshops everywhere of you kissing guys!” “Woah! Hey, somebody’s a little tense. You might want to look into some agression therapy. Besides, maybe I already tried to explore my sexuality…you don’t know. [Sniff] Chris, why did you leave me?”
“Oh my fucking god! Is it always just adventures with you two?!”
“It’s a chat bot.” “What do you mean?” “I mean, it’s a programmed, repetitive, humorless, inhuman, simulation of a person.” “Yeah, Neil!”
“Okay, okay. So maybe a couple of you might have critical thinking skills. Good for you, but other than that it’s all going according to plan.” “And what plan is that?” “The "get everyone to leave me the hell alone” plan. I’m a genius!“
"What could possibly go wrong?” “Everything, but until it does, I’m gonna go plug David into this thing and see how it plays out. Have fun doing…whatever.”
“Damn, Neil, you did that with graphing calculators?”
“This doesn’t make any sense. Every calculator’s running an updated version of my chat bot, but they’re all acting different.” “Yeah, I’m about three seconds away from removing the batteries from David’s.”
“Well I guess it’s a good thing we got them all. Can you imagine if someone impressionable and naive enough to believe everything they heard from a chat bot had-” “[Simultaneously] Oh my god, Nikki!”
“I can only hear about "shipping” people’s “bae’s” for so long.“
"Calculations complete. My analysis is…absolutely fucking not! You humans all suck.”
Season 2, Episode 3, Quest to Sleepy Peak Peak
“Get rekt, Mr. Waffles.”
“Actually, we’ll take whatever we can get, preferably we wouldn’t be talking to either of you.”
“[After kicking the ground and supposedly making the Earth shake] Oh no, my anger has manifested!” “Get to a door frame!”
“How do you know so much about it, Gwen?” “Yeah, I thought you had a…liberal arts degree.” “[Sighs] Associates degree.” “Oh, that is so tragic.”
“You coming too, Max?” “Still got those dice?” “Yep!” “[Grabbing the dice and walking away] Nope.”
“You can be the dwarf, because they’re dumb and ugly, just like your face.” “Aww, yeah. That one hurt. But my mom says I’ll grow into my looks.”
“Oh god! It’s chirping menacingly at me!”
“Anyone else want a twenty-sided asskicking?”
“Big deal, so you threw a bunch of dice at some animals. Kind of a dick move, to be honest.”
“This is a level 1 cave at best. There aren’t even any fire-breathing dragons or even a dang ol’ goblin!"
"Oh, well, I guess that will work.” “[After the volcano starts to shake] IT FUCKING BETTER!”
“[After seeing the lava] Woah! Okay, well, saw the volcano, think it’s time we head back!”
“You’ve angered the mountain, Harrison! Gosh, you suck!” “I do not suck! You’re the sucking one!” “[In background] You both suck!”
“Oh, this is gonna be goood! Neil, are you seeing this?” “[Angrily] I’m going to hit you, Nikki!”

Reviews 221: Gaijin Blues
Naphta and The Shamans blew me away last year as they explored volcanic psychedelia, prog funk, and jungle exotics across a full-length LP. Now, Naphta teams with PlayStation Yoga Music for a new project entitled Gaijin Blues. Released on Shapes of Rhythm and inspired by time spent in Japan and playing classical RPGs, the Gaijin Blues 12” sees the duo weaving ambient disco and tropical fusion together with forest flutes and joyous voice cascades across four transportive tracks. Airs of traditional music intertwine with turn-based RPG and manga OSTs…all over a panoramic mix of organic and electronic percussion, storming basslines, euphoric pad breaths, spaghetti western choirs, vernal string orchestrations, ecstatic guitars, live and sampled folk instruments, and an irresistible sense of fantasy magic.
Gaijin Blues - Gaijin Blues (Shapes of Rhythm, 2019) Strange percussive textures and rolling hand drums give way to stuttering ambient loops and anxious kick drum pulses in “Secret of Mana” while fragile string instruments execute flowing chord motions beneath fantasy flute orchestrations. Energetic drum tapestries charge through forbidden forests and lo-fi clattering textures completely suffuse the background and at some point, a spiritual choir of child-like voices weaves ancient folks incantations over a deep bass jam out…the dreamworld melodies evoking some forgotten strand of old-world magic. After floating through an expanse of sunbeam rhythms and woodwind mysticisms, the track morphs into an charging epic with hypnotic shakers and journeying fusion basslines holding down the groove as echo-soaked flutes wrap around the heart. Elsewhere, the rhythms break down, leaving behind percussive smacks, shambling kick patterns, orchestral strings, and dazzling flute movements. And as militant kicks and deep aerophone enchantments fade back in, the track works towards one last of blast of fairy choir spiritualism before ending with an extended funk fusion freak-out comprised of liquid basslines, ecstatic shaker motions, and woodwinds moving between pastoral adventurism and scatting solo fire.
“Cafe LeBlanc,” presumably named after the coffee shop from Persona 5, sets ritualistic hand drums afloat on starshine percolations while a dreamy chord motif repeats. Ride cymbals and boogie basslines lock in over a clap-led jam, the vibe wild and wooly as staccato flutes mimic birdcalls. Tambourines and golden-toned sleigh bells shimmer and shake as violins and violas trade off dust-caked Americana melodies across the stereo spectrum, all while hand drums roll and tumble like rocks in a stream. Later, we smash cut into a chaotic rainforest drum ceremonial led by anxious cymbal taps and harmonizing string fantasias…these unidentifiable and otherworldly tones of etheric light descending onto the mix with strange rhythmic flutters as the rest track works itself into a climax of exotic dream mesmerism.

In “Metal Gear Rex,” primordial bass rumbles and pillowy kick drums lead a stoned desert gallop…like riding a charging steed through a spaghetti western expanse where the air is suffused by psychedelic reversing fx, jangling tambourines, and chirping woodblocks. Mysterious string instruments let loose shimmering folk riffs as ecstatic voices are looped above finger-rolling hand drum layers and heady bassline pulsations. Imagine the theme from Rawhide blasted through a wormhole and ending up on an alien planet, where minimalist string cascades work themselves into a hillbilly stomp over jazz cymbal taps and chain-off snare hits. Watery drum tones join dark descending basslines as nightmarish string orchestrations hover at the edge of the mix, all while anthemic claps work the rhythms into a loved up disco groove. Jungle funk basslines swing vine-to-vine while the mystical desert folk instruments devolve into dissonant plucks and feverish slides and the way the ecstatic toms fills add forward motion and cosmic propulsion recalls the rare yet blistering live drum work of Klaus Schulze.
Having already visited the world of Secret of Mana, we now shift to Chrono Trigger with “Guardia Castle.” The vibe is of dusty jazz house, with neon keyboards filtered into bleary vapors. Splattering kicks smash away and dubwise basslines work the body while infinite shaker layers surround zany melodies that cycle ever upwards. Eventually things give way to a passage of fevered synth atonality and skittering guitar weirdness as layered loops work together while also never quite aligning. Then comes a jaw dropping transition, with Morricone mermaid voices soaring and flutey electronics swirling at impossible speeds around smeared out orchestral atmospheres and extra-terrestrial piano jam outs. Airs of symphonic majesty and regal beauty are subverted into a paranoid prog jam and towards the end, glockenspiels dance alongside radiant voice movements as everything is smothered in a haze of cinematic magic and ethereal wonderment.
