the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

can i confess something else that will absolutely get me stoned in the town square since im dropping my unpopular opinions. I don’t like altean broadsword Lance. i already disliked red paladin Lance. the broadsword was like rubbing salt in the wound. why couldn’t he have his own niche. why was his character development just making him keith. i understand that it was like “he accepts that he doesn’t have to be a leader and excels as a co-leader and you can find happiness that way yada yada yada”. but you could’ve done that without making him keith. also now give him something unique, cool, that falls in line with his sniper bit. i’m not saying just give him another gun, im saying give him something quiet and lethal. like a garotte. yeah i want garotte lance.

I'm actually unbelievably unwell about Etoiles character you don't understand. He's always been a sword, protecting by attacking first, by fighting back, offense as the best defense. He jokes a lot about dying for the island, dramatic and half sarcastic, but there's truth in his jests. He would kill, and he would die, for his daughter, for the rest of the eggs, for the safety of everyone on the island. He does not hesitate, for what good would that do him?

Then he gets the shield, and it changes the entire game. And while he can still kill to protect the island, he can no longer truly die for them.

His role is functionally the same - he draws attention to himself, he's just as ready for a fight as he's always been, he fights the codes to protect the island - but its the difference between a sword and a shield, because of his literal shield.

He's the only solid defense between the codes and the island, and all the eggs. The only one who can tank the hits and negate the effects of their crazy powerful swords.

A sword cannot hesitate, but a shield must consider it - he cannot take risks when he’s fighting in the Colosseum, because if he dies he’d lose the shield. He cannot risk attacking the fake Pomme without hesitation, not until he’s sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that it’s not his real daughter.

A shield must be sturdy. It must hold up under pressure. It must stay strong and reliable, no matter the circumstance - as the eggs go missing and everyone else crumbles, Etoiles cannot follow suit. He will play his part and defend the island, shouldering what the others cannot, because who else will do what he does?

To lose the shield would not only mean to lose himself, but to lose his family. He cannot fall without failing the entire island, his loss would mean disaster, for who is he if he’s not standing between the ones he loves and the monsters that threaten them?

He's as much a shield as the one he carries.

Had a thought yesterday

I had an urge to torture myself with angst by reading some Numenor-era fanfics—and I almost cried from the emotions they awakened in me. It’s so bizarre to think that this part of Mairon’s life is still very much Angbang-flavored, and it’s nearly impossible to stop Melkor from haunting the narrative—even though he’s been in the Void for so long. I mean, THE TEMPLE. THE HUGE, FUCKING TEMPLE THAT MAIRON BUILT FOR HIM, WHERE HUMAN SACRIFICES WERE MADE IN HIS NAME. DO I EVEN NEED TO SAY ANYTHING ELSE?

It’s so easy to get swept away by all the possibilities of exploring what Mairon thought and felt. Did he laugh in his heart, eagerly anticipating the punishment that would be cast upon those nasty, stupid humans—those who believed him, bought the lies he told them, and sought immortality only to bring their entire nation closer to ruin? Did he feel anger and impatience at having to maintain a façade of obedience for the king he despised? Did he feel even a spark of hope when he killed the humans in Melkor’s temple—hope that it might somehow bring his lover back to him? Did he feel despair when he remained alone in the temple, praying to Melkor because it was the only way to say something other than lies and empty flattery? Those were the moments when he could be himself, even if the pain and grief inside him never faded. And did he plead Melkor to answer him, even though he knew there was no chance?

I could go on and on—but it’s as if every sentence breaks my shipper’s heart a little bit, just as Mairon’s heart was broken beyond repair.

I don’t think I’d ever write a fanfic with a plot like this myself because I’m too weak—I’d just end up crying like a little bitch. Still, I also like to imagine a scenario where Mairon is somehow rewarded for his crimes efforts and reunited with Melkor again.

to say exactly what he means in a short sentence, with recurring pauses and a clear pronounciation. to prefer periods(.) over commas(,).

not to be needlessly verbose – much the opposite; because this vocabulary serves the purpose of clarity, organization and to hold the attention of the listener.
