When the pilot first dropped, I was a teen who shipped Chaggie only because it was canon and it was cute. But now that I'm older and watched the series, I realize how... simple and dare I say it, flavorless this ship is. They don't have that much in common, I can't really think of at least 3 things they have the same interest in. Their viewpoints are different and sometimes it can really broaden the perspectives of the couple for the better, but for Charlie and Vaggie, it only serves to clash in a way that doesn't amount to a lot in the long run, considering how Charlie often disregards Vaggie's caution and Vaggie shuts down most of Charlie's ideas. Not to mention that the whole "exorcist reveal" was poorly handled and did no service to their characters, only butchering these two further.
For me, I cannot see Vaggie providing any essential and substantial development to Charlie's growth in the series because of how bad the show makes her out to be only the love interest. Also, what is Vaggie's purpose to the hotel and for redemption as a whole? Simply being the manager and supporting Charlie doesn't really help much especially when she seems not to care all that much aside from her girlfriend. She cannot relate with all these sinners she was originally tasked to kill because she is most likely a heavenborn angel so what can she offer?
While I don't ship Chaggie anymore, I wish the show would take this ship seriously. They are doing their fans a disservice by failing to make their main pairing mean something more than scoring sapphic points.
My sweet nonny, you took the words right out of my mouth. Like, I feel that most charlastor shippers don't have an actual issue with chaggie being canon in and of itself, they have a problem with it being canon and yet it not meaning anything. Which isn't to say shows can't have main characters with stable queer relationships going on in the background. I think Kipo and the wonderbeasts did it? The new She-ra DEFINITELY did that, Steven Universe walked, and I'm guessing had it not been canceled after like 2 seasons Ok Ko let's be heroes would have developed lord box man and processor venemous' relationship in the background with major plot points being their on and off again dynamics (side note please watch it it's made by Rebecca sugar's spouse and it's so good!)
The problem with chaggie, is that they're BOTH main characters. Charlie is essentially the titular protagonist. Vaggie is one of the core six. Them being together in a relationship can be casual while not being missable. Let's look at a straight example of this being done right; Kim Possible. Nothing about Kim and Ron's dynamic as friends/heroes changes once they're in a relationship. Sure, fears and concerns that drive plots change, but the fundamental characters and dynamics do not. Moreover, we see the casual displays of affection between them that definitely indicate they're not just friends. (Then again KP did an awesome job of establishing that Kim and Ron both have this weird attachment to each other long before they got together. They had an official Kim/Ron night on Fridays).
Chaggie at least as far as season 1 is concerned, is not the focus. And yes, I know, "it's only 8 episodes!" Okay, but tell me if every episode counted why did we have one focused on introducing the Vees? Why did we have an entire episode focused on Huskerdust? These are not complaints in and of themselves but it makes you wonder when the big season 1 plot twist is that Vaggie's been an Angel the whole time.
You're also right about Vaggie not... really having a place there? She's just kind of there, and it's very glaringly noticeable. She's manager in name but Alastor handles all the facilities work and is by his own admission (believable or not) that he's there to watch people fail for his own entertainment, Charlie's the one involved with lesson planning and activity development and she certainly doesn't lack for cash to fund the place, Husk and Nifty both have positions within the hotel but are very obviously only there because of Alastor. Angel and Pen are guests. So what does Vaggie actually do besides wrangle sinners and tell Charlie no?
And part of why I'm so annoyed by this is that I think everything we do know about Vaggie's character could make her super compelling if it wasn't so heavily dependent on Charlie. A fallen angel and former exorcist who was cast out because she did the right thing rather than follow orders? Awesome! Injured in the process losing both her wings and eye? Badass! Believes that people can better themselves long after the lives they've lived? Cool! Is constantly fighting against her own self hatred and projects that out onto other people without meaning to? Feels she's utterly useless if she's not being of service to someone or something? Like this is barely scratching the surface but it's all there and it's all super interesting!
Except for the fact that tying it to Charlie negates all of it. Vaggie doesn't seem to have a character outside of Charlie, which is why they aren't really separated. Think about it, even when Vaggie's confronting Carmilla is on Charlie's orders. And while I'm sure vaggie always means well, her way of helping Charlie involves Charlie changing herself to be more acceptable to others. Alastor's way of helping Charlie involved him bringing her to a place where he knew her natural inclinations would actually be welcomed with open arms.
Alastor and Charlie just make too much narrative sense to not be together. They're foils, dark reflections, and they have so much chemistry it's honestly insane. People said that shippers got shafted when dad beat dad came out but all I saw was the greatest "your daughter calls me daddy too" joke of the last like 20 years. Alastor, who is canonically only in people's spaces to piss them off, who makes even his closest female friends wait for permission to touch him, both climbs over Charlie like ivy on a brick wall and lets her touch him on prompted without recoiling. Alastor always offers something useful to Charlie, even if he delivers it in an insult, and more importantly; not once has he ever laughed at her. He wants to guide her and watch her reach her full potential; malicious intent or not he's in it for the long haul. Again I say this not to bash on Chaggie but to emphasize how WEIRD it is that there's this dynamic isn't present in the canon ship.
I'm with you on your last point nonny, I can not actively ship chaggie and want better for it. I cannot tell you the rage that filled my body when I watched the last episode and saw that out of 8 episodes Chaggie got 1 30-second song and not only was it a REPRISE it was a reprise of the FATHER-DAUGHTER SONG!!! If that creative decision doesn't tell me everything I need to know about the ship's treatment going forward, I don't know what would.

🏳️‍🌈
(Drop a 🏳️‍🌈 in my inbox and I’ll respond with a queer media recommendation!)
Everybody who follows me already knows that The Dragon Prince is my favorite TV show in the whole world. Created for Netflix by Aaron Ehasz (an alumnus of Avatar: the Last Airbender) and Justin Richmond, it's an epic fantasy series that kicks off with a trio of plucky protagonists who are determined to return an egg kidnapped from the dragon queen by a dark mage, because the kidnapping of the dragon prince (hey! the title!) puts the entire world at risk of war.
One of the fundamental themes is exploring the cycle of violence and abuse, and how that cycle can only be broken when people commit to it wholeheartedly. It also shows that, even when someone wants to break the cycle, there are others who are invested in continuing it, and peace takes incredible and painful work.
The worldbuilding is phenomenal, the character and creature design is incredible, the story is gripping, and the writing is...*chef's kiss.* Every season is better than the last, and the increase in animation quality across the years is unreal. Season six was utterly ethereal.
Phase one of the series spanned seasons one to three, and we are currently in the final stretch of arc two ("Mystery of Aaravos"), encompassing seasons four to seven. Season six just dropped, and according to the official Instagram account, it's been #1 on Netflix for the past five days! That's really great news, because they're trying really hard to get greenlit for arc three--so now is a really, really great time to get into the show! You want to do it, you want to do it so bad. Use the hashtags #TheDragonPrince, #ContinueTheSaga, and #GiveUsTheSaga if you do! Please, for the love of fuck! 😭😭😭
Currently there are six seasons of the tv show, several books (including novelizations, original comics, and art book, and in-universe guides), a tabletop roleplaying game, a board game, and a brand-new video game that launched this week. This world is huge, and it's so fun to explore!
Here's the trailer for season one of the show:
youtube
Here's a trailer for the most recent season, for those who saw the early seasons but didn't keep up:
youtube
And here's the trailer for the mobile game:
youtube
As far as why I'm recommending it as a queer show, there are so many queer characters. The show prompted some griping early on because it had a pair of tragically dead lesbian queens, but in the seasons since, they've introduced a gloriously alive lesbian battle couple who get married on-screen, a married pair of gay men, three different trans characters (one of whom joins the main cast in season 4 and remains a major character), and a general lovely air of casual queerness in a high fantasy setting. The tabletop roleplaying game has multiple canon queer characters, too, and the show's cast and crew have made it clear that they have queer people among them, they fully support queer people in the fandom, and they want to include queerness in their world. It's awesome.
(And I'm still sticking with "when one man looks at another man and says 'our baby was so cute,' that's canon enough for me." So there's some fantastic queer villainy that's, like, the perfect icing on the cake for me personally. The Dragon Prince: for all your unholy dark magic mpreg bug baby needs!)
Also, this show has my poorest, saddest, littlest, wettest meow-meow babygirl of all fucking time: Lord Viren, (former) High Mage of Katolis, the most turbo-divorced man in all existence. If you follow me, you've seen that motherfucker. You know who he is. You have seen his sad miserable little face. You know who I am and what I'm here for. This paragraph is not a surprise to you. You know.
Here's a picture of me in Viren cosplay, as both a shameless cosplay self-promo and a reiteration that, no, seriously, this is my favorite TV show ever:

violence? WOOO!! lifesteal.
Tumblr media
so, you heard about a silly little server called lifesteal. maybe u wanna try watching it. well what if i told u that we here at lifestealblr have put together a helpful guide to help you succumb to the poisons start watching the server?? join us we are very normal
so! lifesteal! first, a summary. lifesteal is a server where when u die, you lose a heart off your permanent health bar. when you kill another player you gain a heart. heres a list to sum it up:
dying loses you a heart
killing someone else gains you a heart
losing all your hearts = dead and gone from the series, unless youre revived
you can revive dead players through gay sex crafting a special item
you can withdraw hearts from your healthbar and give them to other players
still have questions? heres a better explanation. ok moving on
lifesteal smp has FOUR seperate seasons so far!! the players are the same, give or take a few people. so, where to start?
first, you don't need to watch the seasons in order. you don't need to know anything about previous seasons to watch lifesteal. start with whatever season you want!! that being said, i'd advise starting on season three or season four (the current season) as they are the most popular.
anyways, if you want to just start watching: here is the link to the playlist containing every lifesteal video on youtube, seasons 1-4 here is the link to the playlist containing every season 3 lifesteal video here is the link to the playlist containing every season 4 lifesteal video
[thank you to @a4g and @aroaceacacia for creating and maintaining the lifesteal s1-4 & lifesteal s3 and the lifesteal s4 playlists, respectively]
HOWEVER
if you'd like to start out slow, pick one lifestealer and start watching them!! honestly, the best way to get into it is just to find a guy (or ten) that you like watching and watch their videos!
a note- i am tagging the user who created each propaganda post so that if people change their urls, you will still be able to find the post. theyre definitely NOT the lifestealers themselves lol. also, some of these are not finished! however this has been sitting in my drafts for six months and i need to post it for my own mental health
i should make this a google docs actually. might do that sometime if i get motivation. but anyways, without further ado:

Enzo St John x Reader- Christmas Shopping
So this is my first Enzo story courtesy of the wonderful @withmyteeth (and can I just say a huge thank you for sending in this request I enjoyed writing it so much!)
I hope you all enjoy this latest story for my Christmas Writing Challenge! 💛
Prompt - You really love Christmas, huh?
“You really love Christmas, huh?” Enzo asked, his British accent laced with a teasing tone, a smile spreading across his lips as he glanced over  at his girlfriend, who had nothing but excitement in her eyes as they approached the shopping mall.
“I do,” she answered back, with a beaming smile. Y/n had always loved Christmas, but her family never really did, so there were very few Christmas decorations in her house growing up.
Though she certainly made up for that now that she had her own apartment. As soon as Thanksgiving was over the Christmas decorations slowly started to come out.
Enzo didn’t mind. He knew Y/n loved Christmas, it was evident given how their apartment was currently looking; even though it was still quite early in the month, their apartment was beginning to look a lot like Santa’s grotto. All that was really needed was some love Reindeers and he was pretty sure it could pass for the grotto of the man in the red suit.
He just loved seeing her happy.
That’s why he agreed to go shopping with her. Because he knew how happy it would make her.
It was also their first Christmas together as a couple so he wanted to make it special.
~~~~
“Love, put it down,” Enzo chuckled softly as he wrapped his hand lightly around Y/ns, trying to move her hand down so that she could put another festive decoration she’d found back where it belonged.
“But…it’s so fluffy,” she pouted back, trying to fight against Enzo's strength (and failing).
The Christmas decoration the two were arguing about was a red and white Christmas pillow that was in the shape of a Christmas tree.
Enzo didn’t have a problem with Christmas.
And he didn’t have a problem with Y/n buying things to celebrate the festive season.
But so far they already had three bags full of just Christmas decorations, not to mention the decorations that Y/n had purchased after Thanksgiving.
He hated saying no to her, especially when she looked at him with her puppy dog eyes and pouty lip.
She had him wrapped around her little finger and they both knew it.
“We already have three Christmas pillows,”
Not to mention the other three that were already on the couch. Granted none of them were in the shape of a Christmas tree but still the point stood. They couldn’t fit any more pillows on the couch.
He was trying so hard to stand his ground, but he couldn’t resist her puppy dog eyes
“Fine,” he sighed in defeat, letting go of her hand as she quickly ran to the till, with a triumphant smile on her face.
~~~~
Two hours and six shopping bags later, they had finally finished Christmas shopping for the day.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been so exhausted after shopping,” Enzo stated as he practically collapsed on the couch.
“You should go shopping with Caroline, that is exhausting,” Y/n replied, causing a small chuckle to leave Enzo's lips as she began unpacking the bags with the decorations in.
Little did Y/n know there was a little Christmas present in a bag Enzo had kept out of her sight that he would continue to keep it hidden until Christmas Day.

The Wayfarer: Halloween Special Pt. 1
(This was something I had wanted to do since starting the fan fiction almost a year ago and wanted to do this as a special thank you for everyone who has been enjoying the story so far. I will warn there are some mild spoilers as to how things will go in the story. With that out of the way, I hope everyone enjoys the Halloween Special!)
It was a cold Halloween in Walden of 1989, pumpkins outside were frosted with fresh snow as they glowed softly in the pale night sky. The proud Mancer household was dressed from head to toe in Halloween decorations of paper skeletons and cats with eyes a glow with mischief as the smell of caramel being warmed lingered in the air. The homunculi, Dolly, the horrible clay assholes, and an aged Freddy were looking after the family four year old as horror movies played on the television to fit the mood. It was clear that the humans spawned in the Mancer family bloodline were considerably more feral than the adults were, thus the four year old was having her own little Halloween party at home. Envy glared from their spot on the couch at the elderly Freddy. How dare this asshole end up aging into looking like an awesome wizard was one of the things that ran through Envy’s mind as they fixed their overly fancy vampire top hat for the night. Freddy was, in short, nineties and thriving at this point with no clear indications of him passing away any time soon as Freddy smugly rocked in his chair. Envy got up from the couch, straightening up their costume, and decided to go to the kitchen to bother Dolly and her horrible lions.
The kitchen was busy with caramel apples being dipped and popcorn balls being rolled up as the dread monstrous creature called a four year old was attempting to snatch a piece of caramel on the table. It had been Tanya’s idea to host a Halloween party at the grand old household since her grandchild wouldn’t be allowed to trick or treat just yet given some past issues. Ernest and Dorian, being the horrible creatures they were, started injecting the apples with the chocolate blood sauce. Clearly those two were still trying to give Freddy a good scare in hopes one of them would make the screeching wonder pass out. Dolly couldn’t help but shake her head at this as she took the latex gloves off after finishing making the popcorn balls. Like the others, Dolly was dressed as a vampire for the occasion with a Victorian looking, knee length black dress she normally wouldn’t have worn had it not been the advent of the lint roller. Perched upon Dolly’s head was a headband with little vampire wings on top. Envy, couldn’t help but smirk as they took up a seat at the kitchen table to be a giant pest. Halloween was, afterall, a season to cause as much mischief as possible and make some certain people miserable in the process like the Face Fur, Freddy. Clearly, Envy had to make the indestructible old man suffer in some way for still continuing to exist and looking awesome while doing so. Dolly took a chance to glance to notice Envy was now in the kitchen with her, the clay lions, and the four year old that decided licking the window was an excellent way to pass time.
“Wayfarer, did you get tired of being around Freddy?” Dolly asked as she placed the plate of popcorn balls ready for decorations.
“It was sickening to look at him rocking in his chair so smugly there, Fairytale.” Envy admitted as they shrugged, they truly hoped to have had one night without Freddy around. “Well then, you’re welcome to help decorate the popcorn balls with me. I don’t think little Carmilla is much interested in helping out with that part.” Dolly gestured a bit towards the feral child by the window.
“I swear, that kid is more feral than her grandmother was at that age.” Envy raised an eyebrow as the feral child continued to prove that Freddy was the more reasonable child at that age.
“Carmilla will hopefully mellow out by the time she’s six, then she can officially go trick or treating without being a terror towards the other kids.” Dolly went to get the ice box image cookies from the fridge to bake next.
“Don’t you think you’re being a bit optimistic there? Carmillia’s parents are still paying off the settlement suit after Carmilla’s little debut with physical assault on the other kid with a pencil.” Envy gave Dolly a look as Carmilla continued the disgusting slurping of the glass.
“Okay that’s fair, she did leave a chunk of graphite still embedded in that kid’s upper thigh over a toy.” Dolly paused for a short moment to reflect on just how violent this young child was already before getting the cake pan.
“Exactly, Carmilla will likely be able to go trick or treating at like twelve given what she’s been doing.” Envy caught wind of the slurping meatbag larva by the window as they carefully redirect Dolly’s eyes to the scene.
“...Damn it, Carmilla, stop licking the window or your tongue will get stuck in there!” Dolly stopped what she was doing as she watched the child for what actions would be taken next.
Carmilla gave a soured pout at being told no as she attempted to remove her tongue to the window to only find out that it indeed had gotten stuck. There was a sigh from Dolly as she went to rescue little Carmilla, the violent one from the window. Envy was laughing from their little throne in the kitchen as Dolly had to carefully pry Carmilla’s tongue from the prison known as freezing glass. The very moment the little terror was freed from her glass based prison, Little Carmilla ran screeching out of the kitchen, likely to follow Envy’s lead of tormenting her great granduncle to bits. With the distraction taken care of, Dolly went to wash her hands and then get the latex gloves back on so she could slice the cookie dough. Envy went back to loafing about in the kitchen, their horrid little ears trained for the ruckus that would likely erupt from the other room with glee. At least there would be one amusing thing for Envy to enjoy after being subjected to having to do a Halloween party for a mutant half pint. They just needed something, anything, to spice up Halloween night with and damn it, Envy was going to do just that. It truly didn’t take too long for Envy to cook up something in their mind and it’d be easy enough to confirm to make this little stunt work smoothly. Ernest and Dorian looked up from their handicraft of bleeding apples to notice that look on Envy’’s face before knowing they too wanted in on this.
Envy, being the monarch of all bad role models, led Ernest and Dorian into the other room, leaving Dolly much confused by this. Of course, Dolly had to see what the resident eternal booger was up to, and began to follow Envy out to see what’ll happen. It didn’t help the situation when Carmilla pounced on the about ready to fall asleep Freddy in his own rocking chair, earning a gasp and a wheeze from the impact. Gluttony looked up from watching the horror movie marathon on the tv, dressed like a vampire too to fit in with the group theme upon hearing the wheezing fit from Freddy. Envy was laughing their little ass right off over the stunt Carmilla pulled right in front of them. It was Lust who came to the elderly Freddy’s aid as she carefully picked up the monstrous child. It was clear on Lust’s face that she was going to place Carmilla in time out for that stunt, much to Envy’s distress.
“Come on Lust, you don’t have to place Carmilla in time out, do you?” Envy asked, trying to hide their true motive.
“Envy, I don’t care if you dislike Freddy, but Carmilla will have to go into time out for it. She could’ve seriously harmed Freddy given his age.” Lust looked over Envy very carefully given that tend to avoid this particular child the most.
“But it’s Halloween Lust, it’s the time to pull pranks.” Envy protested on Carmilla’s behalf who was kicking about and making inhumane sounds for a small child.
“Envy, that wasn’t a prank, that was literal harm to an aged Freddy. Carmilla will have to take time out.” Lust stayed very firm with her decision as she wondered just what Envy was up to this time.
“Fine then let me take her to time out instead!” Envy relented, though still determined to implement their own Halloween misdeed. “...I’m going to have to monitor you if that’s the case. Last time I let you do that, you tried to steal from her parents’ luggage.” Lust’s gut was crying out at the suspicious behavior from Envy as they made grabby hands for the human version of a troll.
“I can’t help it if they don’t compensate us for the trouble this booger gets into.” Envy admitted since Carmilla was a handful monster child.
“My point exactly.” Lust still wasn’t going to let Envy take Carmilla to time out by themself given that past incident.
“I’m still taking Face Fur Jr. to time out.” Envy snatched up the flailing bratty child, their mind made up on the action.
“Not without…god damn it Envy!” Lust was annoyed when Envy just ran off with Carmilla the Terrible, not giving Lust a chance to monitor them.
“Am I going to have to be concerned with the aftermath?” Dolly asked as she just watched this scene unfold and was not even sure how to react to this.

I have to say that in both seasons so far of Shadow and Bone (and especially in Season 2), the parts of the show based on the “Six of Crows” books are much more interesting than parts based on the “Shadow and Bone” books. Both series are written by Leigh Bardugo, and take place in the same universe. But the Crows are SO entertaining!
They’re a gang of thieves operating in the Barrel underworld, and they’re so much FUN! I quite liked the parts from Shadow and Bone in S1, but those parts were a mess in S2. And the thing I liked best about the S&B plot in S1 was Alina and Mal’s devoted but non-sexual friendship. They were both heterosexual, but they’d grown up together at the orphanage and were basically siblings. It was really nice, and unusual, to see a close friendship between a straight man and a straight woman that wasn’t sexualized.
I haven’t read the books. I understand from other Tumblr users that Book!Mal is kind of a dick. But I liked Show!Mal, at least in S1. And then in S2, the show decided to make Mal and Alina a couple, and I was all, “Eeewwww, I know they’re not biologically related, but they grew up together. It feels incestuous. Also, Jessie Mei Li and Archie Renaux had WAY more chemistry when Alina and Mal were best friends than when they got romantic.”
And evidently, the show agreed with me about the lack of romantic chemistry, since Mal/Alina did NOT end up being endgame in S2. But did we really need to spend so many episodes on them as a boring romantic couple, if the show was always planning to split them up by the end of the season?
Fortunately, the Six of Crows characters picked up the dramatic slack left by the S&B characters. Their heists were awesome! And they had great snappy dialogue, and engaging characters. Kaz, Inej, Nina, Jesper and Wylan are a bunch of criminals, granted, but entertaining and watchable criminals.

Tulane: 2022 American Football Champions
Tumblr media
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — As Tulane receiver Shae Wyatt watched jubilant fans streaming onto the field, he couldn’t help but reflect upon how far his team had come since finishing last season 2-10.
“It’s definitely surreal,” said Wyatt, whose two touchdown catches were no small part of why a celebratory scene so hard to conceive of a year ago was unfolding around him. “Seeing all the other schools with their success, and having their fans storm the field — eventually, everybody wants that.”
Michael Pratt accounted for 442 total yards and five touchdowns, Tyjae Spears highlighted his 199 yards rushing with a 60-yard score and No. 18 Tulane beat No. 22 UCF 45-28 on Saturday night in the American Athletic Conference championship game.
The victory virtually assured Tulane (11-2) would play in the Cotton Bowl — its first major New Year’s Day bowl since the 1939 season.
A full hour after the game, Tulane players were still in uniform, walking back to the field from the locker room to pose for photos with teammates, some with cigars in hand. Spears joked that his elbow was sore from fans pulling on him for a congratulatory embrace.
“It was an amazing feeling, man,” Spears said. “That’s something that will stick with us for the rest of our life.”
And Wyatt suggested that Tulane’s remarkable turnaround should serve as a lesson. “They were just throwing dirt over us and for a while it was hard to bounce back,” Wyatt said of last season, during which Tulane was displaced by Hurricane Ida to a Birmingham hotel for a month, and plagued with injuries to prominent players.
“If you keep your faith and you believe in your brothers that are next to you, flowers will grow. I promise you,” Wyatt said. “I hope this is a testament to anybody out there.”
Pratt passed for a career-high 394 yards, including touchdowns of 73 yards to Duece Watts, 60 and 10 yards to Wyatt and 43 yards to Lawrence Keys. Pratt also ran for a pivotal 18-yard touchdown with 4:04 left.
“It was awesome to close out that game and have those fans so fired up,” said Pratt, named the game’s most outstanding player.
Spears electrified the record crowd of 30,118 at Tulane’s cozy, on-campus Yulman Stadium with his long scoring run, on which he broke two tackles near the line of scrimmage, made two other defenders miss and hurndled his own fallen teammate after cutting back inside.
The Green Wave, which earned the right to host the title game by ending Cincinnati’s 32-game home winning streak last weekend, avenged a 38-31 regular-season loss to UCF (9-4) on the same field on Nov. 12.
But UCF was not quite the same team because of QB John Rhys Plumlee’s nagging hamstring injury, which appeared to rob him of the explosiveness he displayed by running for 176 yards in the previous meeting.
Plumlee struggled enough early on that coach Gus Malzahn pulled him in the second quarter in favor of Thomas Castellanos. But with Tulane up 24-7 in the middle of the third quarter, Malzahn put Plumlee back in as primarily a passer — and he nearly led the Kights all the way back.
“He’s one of the toughest players I think I’ve ever coached,” Malzahn said. “John Rhys just kept telling me, ‘Coach, give me another chance.’ … He really gave us a spark.”
Plumlee led UCF quickly for a touchdown to make it 24-14, converting a fourth-and-10 pass along the way and capping the drive with a 17-yarder to Kobe Hudson.
“You work all year to play in a game like this,” said Plumlee, who completed 29 of 39 for 209 yards and one TD, but finished with minus-7 yards rushing as Tulane had six sacks. “I didn’t want to sell myself short or sell this team short.”
Tulane responded when both UCF safeties froze on a play-fake to Spears and Pratt found Watts running free behind the defense.
UCF cut it to 31-21 when former Virginia QB RJ Harvey took a backward pass from Plumlee and launched a 49-yard TD pass to Hudson.
And the Knights got the ball right back when Spears fumbled after a catch on the Green Wave 30. Isaiah Bowser’s 10-yard run shortly after got UCF as close as 31-28 with 9:48 still left.
But Pratt again found a way to lead the Wave down the field, connecting with Wyatt for the longer of the receiver’s two TDs, and UCF didn’t threaten again.
It was a dream end to week that got off to a less-than-ideal start with reports out of Atlaata that head coach Willie Fritz being pursued by Georgia Tech.
“Well, I sure am glad I stayed,” Fritz said. “I made a commitment to these kids and the last thing I ever wanted to be was a distraction. So, I’m just proud to be here.”

Chapter 7: Part 1: Two's Company, Six Is A Crowd
Raining Hellfire: Season One | Season Two
Tumblr media
Raining Hellfire: Season Two
Word Count: 3291 words
Warnings: swearing, mentions of trauma, illusions to ptsd, demodogs
[A/N: I'm sorry that even with all of the mentions of eddie, the story has drifted far from an eddie x reader storyline. I wanted to create something that would make sense and season two didn't offer many opportunities for eddie to be included so I hope that you all like the story regardless but pls feel free to let me know your thoughts]
Tumblr media
Two's Company, Six Is A Crowd
“This isn’t what I should be doing with my life.”
Steve was muttering, unloading buckets of meat from the trunk of his car. Your new-made plan to take care of Dart was to lead it to the abandoned junkyard. That way, you had lots of open space to deal with the creature without anyone getting hurt. That was what you were hoping for, anyway.
You continue your silent streak, grabbing a pair of marigold gloves.
After Steve and Dustin had found you standing alone in the darkness yesterday, you barely uttered five words to the boys. Another hallucination, another living nightmare that no one but you could see. Another terror that no one else could feel.
“Dustin! This is Lucas. Do you copy? Dustin?”
You could hear Lucas’ voice blare through Dustin’s radio, Dustin taking his chance to reply by stepping away from the car.
“Hey.” Steve softly bumps your shoulder, grabbing your attention. “You’ve been quiet for a while.”
You risk a glance at your hands, as if the burns were still there. But it had all been a dream. You hastily pull on the gloves.
“Just tired.” You finally respond, swinging the bat over your shoulder and grabbing the gasoline.
You walked away before you let it all out and made him think you were crazy.
“Alright, let’s go.” Steve called to Dustin, grabbing a bucket and following you.
Tumblr media
You led them onto the old rail track, calculating your pace so you could walk in front of them as they spread the chunks of meat along the trail. You’d rather not step in whatever meat Dustin had managed to get his hands on.
“All right, so let me get this straight.” Steve breaks the silence, talking to Dustin while you continued walking ahead of them. “You kept something you knew was probably dangerous in order to impress a girl who… who you just met?”
You discretely shook your head. Dustin liked Max. Normally, you’d be happy to hear that and root for him. But you knew Max. And you haven’t missed how much time she’s been spending with Lucas lately. Sadly, you knew Dustin didn’t have a chance.
“All right, that’s grossly oversimplifying things.” Dustin responded, continuing with the trail.
“I mean, why would a girl like some nasty slug anyway?” Steve pondered.
Weirdly enough, you would find it fascinating. If the slug was just a scientific discovery and not another blood thirsty monster wanting to eat you.
“An interdimensional slug? Because it’s awesome.” Dustin said, smiling.
“Well, even if she thought it was cool, which she didn’t, I- I just… I don’t know. I feel like you’re trying way too hard.”
“Well, not everyone can have your perfect hair, all right?”
You held in your laugh.
“It’s not about the hair, man.” Steve sighed, “The key with girls is just… just acting like you don’t care.”
This time, you couldn’t hold in your laugh.
“What’s wrong with my advice, huh?” Steve asked you with an irritated look.
“We like guys who don’t care? Yeah right.” You scoff. You’d been with someone who didn’t care when you were younger and look how that worked out.
“What is Eddie like?” Dustin chimed in, looking to you as if you’d have every answer to his girl problems through your ‘successful’ relationship with Eddie.
“He… uh…” You stumble over your words. “He was himself, I guess. He… he cared.”
You look away from the boy, staring ahead while your eyes fogged. You truly had lost a good one. Wanting nothing else to do with the conversation, you swung your bat down to your side and trudged on, quickening your pace to gain some distance once again. But you weren’t far enough that you couldn’t hear them.
“What’s up with her?” You hear Dustin question and you hold your breath.
“Look, acting like you don’t care…” Steve changes the subject and you sigh with relief.
Maybe if Eddie acted like he didn’t care, you wouldn’t feel this broken. He was always there for you while making sure you had your space. He was perfect. And you had broken his trust all because of the Upside Down. You just had to admit to yourself that having Eddie further from you and this mess would be the only way to keep him safe.
“It’s like before it’s gonna storm, you know?” You tuned back into their conversation, Steve still relaying his advice, “You can’t see it, but you can feel it, like this, uh… electricity, you know?”
The more he explained, the easier it was for you to agree with his words. Maybe Steve was onto something after all.
“Oh, like in the electromagnetic field when the clouds in the atmosphere-”
“No, no, no, no, no.” Steve cuts off the misunderstanding Dustin, “Like a… like a sexual electricity.”
“Oh.” Dustin sounded.
“You feel that and then you make your move.”
For advice about girls… Steve wasn’t too bad at it. Sure, you couldn’t agree that treating someone as lesser would guarantee a date but the electricity… that was something you’ve definitely felt. It just didn’t work out for you.
“Nancy’s different.” You hear Steve say and you drop your head, focusing on your footsteps.
You just wanted to snap him out of whatever trance he was in. You knew he loved her, that much was clear, but it felt like he was still holding onto a relationship that burned out months ago. You just didn’t want to see your friend get hurt.
“Was Nancy the first girl you felt electricity with?” Dustin queried.
“Uh… no, I guess. Not really.” Steve’s voice became quieter which was unusual to hear.
“So you feel it with all the girls?” Dustin’s little questions kept bringing a smile to your face. Not because they were humorous; he and Steve were forming a little bond of their own. It was good to see him looking up to a male figure, especially after everything that happened in his family. You knew it was something you couldn’t help with.
Steve was silent from a moment and you wondered if he was genuinely putting thought into the question or if he just didn’t want to answer.
“No.” Steve finally spoke. You could almost hear the frown in his voice, “There was only this other time. But, uh, that ended before it could even start.”
“What happened?”
“We… we drifted apart, I guess.”
You lower your head again, swinging the gasoline can along to the beat of your footsteps.
“Hey,” Steve coughed, “You’re not falling in love with this girl, are you?”
“Uh, no. No.” Dustin stammered. You knew he was lying. He just wanted to impress Steve.
“Okay good. Don’t. She’s only gonna break your heart and you’re way too young for that shit.”
A long moment of silence hung in the air. You didn’t have to turn around to know Dustin was upset, feeling like the way he felt was wrong. You would have ran to him and cheered him up if you didn’t also know that Steve would easily feel guilt for his words.
“Fabergé.” Steve finally spoke and you smiled. You knew he wouldn’t be able to resist trying to cheer up his new found friend.
“What?”
“It’s Fabergé Organics.” Steve sighed. “Use the shampoo and conditioner, and when your hair’s damp… It’s not wet, okay? When it’s damp...”
“Damp.” Dustin repeated.
“You do four puffs of the Farrah Fawcett spray.”
Another smile crept onto your face, your mind drifting to the exact spray currently residing in your bathroom.
“Farrah Fawcett spray?” Dustin’s smile was easily heard through his comment.
“Yeah. Farrah Fawcett.” Steve paused for a moment. “You tell anyone I just told you that and your ass is grass. You’re dead, Henderson. Do you understand?”
“Yup.” Dustin replied.
“Secret’s safe with me, hair-head.” You call out, looking over your shoulder.
They both stare at you in shock, Dustin’s eyes glancing to Steve.
“What?” You continue, laughing, “You seriously think because I’m a couple steps ahead of you I can’t hear you?”
Steve clears his throat and you send a wink, turning back around and leading the way once again.
Tumblr media
Once you all arrived at the junkyard, you stop just at the top of the hill, scanning the landscape.
“Oh, yeah. Yeah, this will do.” Steve shares, causing you to look his direction.
“Jesus.” You whisper, rolling your eyes at the sunglasses he had managed to sneak on for no reason.
“What?” Steve glances at you.
“Nothing.” You dismiss as Steve walks away.
“Good call dude.” He says to Dustin, making his way down the hill.
You see Dustin smile at his comment and nudge his shoulder in support. His smile only got brighter.
You find an open space, gesturing to where they should dump out the buckets and you survey the area.
“We could easily turn that bus into a fortress, border it with some of the metal sheets laying around.” You suggest, Dustin nodding along to your idea.
“I said medium-well!”
Lucas’ voice echoed, and you instinctively laugh at his joke. Your smile faded just as quick as it came when you saw Max stood next to him.
“Who’s that?” Steve asked, frowning when he sees both yours and Dustin’s expressions.
Neither of you reply, both staring at the duo coming closer.
Once Lucas got closer, Dustin grabbed him by the shirt and dragged him down behind an old car. His head briefly popped back up to motion you to join them.
“What-” Max started but you just shrugged, walking over to where the boys crouched together.
“For the love of God, why did you bring my sister?” You whispered harshly.
“Because she’s a part of the Party now. You guys brought Steve!” Lucas argued, gesturing to the tall boy currently grabbing scrap pieces of metal.
“He had a car.” You said simply, Dustin nodding in agreement.
“How is that fair?” Lucas complained. You hear a grunt and see that the other two are struggling.
“If she gets hurt, I will murder you.” You glared at Lucas, standing back up and walking over to Steve who was struggling to lift a large sheet of metal.
“Hey,” Steve speaks up after you both dump the metal against the bus, “You alright?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” You give a brief smile, grabbing any boards you could find.
“When Dustin mentioned Eddie back there-”
“I’m fine.” You lift something heavy and grunt under the weight. This was not as easy as you planned.
“Hold on.” Steve quickly walks over to where Dustin and Lucas were still crouched, lowering his fist onto the top of the car to get their attention. “Hey, dickheads. How come the only ones helping me are Y/n and this random girl?”
The boys quickly jump up, moving towards Max to actually participate. When Steve joins you again, he is met with a bitter laugh.
“What?” He raises his brow at your reaction.
“Not a random girl, Steve.” You say, Max turning her head as she overhears.
“What does that mean?” He asks before he sees you and Max both simultaneously purse your lips from irritation.
Steve’s eyes widen with realisation, but you’re already walking away.
Tumblr media
Your hands restlessly twiddled around the bat as you leant back in your seat. Everyone was inside the bus now, the night darkening the sky outside as you waited in silence.
Lifting your head, you notice how uncomfortable Dustin is. He was glancing at Max and Lucas every now and then, cringing at how close they sat beside eachother. You decided to give him a break.
“Wanna put those binoculars to use?” You ask Lucas, pointing to the roof. He nods happily, jumping up in excitement to have an important role.
Once he disappears up the ladder, you shift your glance to Steve who was focused on the flame in front of him. He kept flicking the lighter, just for something to do. You made the mistake of looking directly at the flickering flame.
You saw Jonathan run towards the creature, flicking open the lighter in his hand and throwing it to the ground. You watched as the flame met the gasoline, travelling toward the creature in a fiery blaze.
Suddenly the creature was in flames, screeches of pain filling the room.
You must have flinched at the memory because Steve stopped his actions, looking to you with guilty eyes.
“So you both really fought one of these things before?” Max’s voice fills the silence, raising an eyebrow as if she didn’t really believe there was some supernatural creature lurking out there. You didn’t blame her, it wasn’t exactly an easy thing to wrap your head around. In fact, you were still trying to figure it all out.
Steve just nods at your sister, noticing that your gaze has drifted to your leg. The scar felt hot beneath the material of your jeans.
“And you’re, like, totally 100% sure it wasn’t a bear?” She questions, arms crossed as she slumped into her seat.
“Shit. Don’t be an idiot. Okay? It wasn’t a bear.” Dustin retorts. Max raises her eyebrows at him.
“Bears don’t open their faces.” You mutter under your breath, not realising that Steve was close enough to hear.
“Why are you even here if you don’t believe us?” Dustin continued, angrier than you’d expect him to be. “Just go home.”
As much as you wanted Max to be anywhere else, you knew home for her was just as dangerous as sitting in this bus. At least if she was here, you could protect her.
“Hey, dickhead.” You tear your eyes from your leg, looking to Dustin, “Don’t talk to her like that.”
Max sends you a quick smile before walking past Dustin and heading to the roof. “Geesh. Someone’s cranky. Past your bedtime?”
“Definitely sisters.” You hear Steve mumble as Max disappears, joining Lucas.
“That’s good. Just show her you don’t care.” Steve comments and you scoff.
“I don’t.” Dustin says with a small voice. He looked heartbroken.
“It’s terrible advice.” You share, twisting the bat in your hand again.
“What’s your problem with my advice?” Steve sighs, cocking his head at you.
You were too tired to be nice.
“Are you asking me if making a girl feel like she’s nothing to you after you clearly showed interest in her for months is a good way of getting her to like you?” You stare him down and Steve starts to shift uncomfortably.
Dustin looks between the two of you before shaking his head.
“It does sound bad when you say it like that.” Dustin ponders, pursing his lips.
“That’s because it’s shit advice.” You knew you were digging into the past, bringing up issues you had buried long ago. But you were tired, confused and mostly angry. You didn’t mean to take it out on Steve.
“What would you suggest?” Dustin shuffles into the space next to you, sitting down and looking up at you, innocence in his eyes.
“I’m… I’m not really the person to ask.” You try to smile, ruffling his hat.
“Right,” He chuckled, setting his hat back into place, “‘Cause you have Eddie.”
You sigh, face dropping at the mention. No more hiding it. “Actually-”
A loud roar suddenly echoes through the junk yard, your flight or fight instincts kicking in immediately as you jump to your feet, bat held at the ready.
“You see him?” Steve asks you both as you all peer out of the window.
“No.” You and Dustin reply. You just kept staring at the bait. Dustin calls out to Lucas for eyes.
Take the bait. Take the bait, you think repetitively, knuckles white as you gripped the bat.
“I’ve got eyes! Ten o’clock! Ten o’clock!” Lucas yells out and you see Dart enter through the fog.
“What is he doing?”
“I don’t know.”
Dart creeps around, completely avoiding the pile of meat and as you stare out of the window, you swore you could almost sense it. It already had plans for dinner. And it just so happened to be sat in the bus.
“He’s not taking the bait. Why’s he not taking the bait?” Steve asks quietly to no one in particular.
“Maybe he’s not hungry?” Dustin suggests. Your throat tightens. It was most definitely hungry.
“Maybe he’s sick of cow.” Steve says and a breathy laugh leaves your lips, causing him to glance back at you for a moment, completely oblivious to the plan circulating in your head.
With Steve and Dustin still staring out the window, you swing the bat down into your hand and head to the door. One push of a barely functioning button opens the door with a creak.
“Y/n?” Steve questions, looking to the door. But you were already jumping off the bus and pulling the door shut behind you. He scrambles to his feet immediately.
You had to admit that the fog truly added to the eerie tension in the air. You were almost scared to move, having to force one foot in front of the other, trying to make as little noise as you could.
The door creaks once again behind you but you keep your focus on dart, creeping forward.
“Really, Harrington?” You whisper, not risking the glance over your shoulder.
“You’re the one with a death wish.” He replies, just as quiet.
“You have no idea.” You mumble just as Steve falls in line next to you, matching your stance.
Any care that you had for your own well-being was already lost. You didn’t really have anything left.
Nancy wasn’t your friend anymore, Steve easily takes care of himself, Eddie hates you and the Party will always have eachother. Max… you saw how Lucas looked at her. She was in safe hands. You had no doubt that if things became too hard to handle at home, she would find your uncle and he would gladly accept her into his home.
You might be wanted, but you certainly weren’t needed.
The sound of chittering became louder as you both crept toward the fog.
“Come on, buddy.” Steve calls out with a whistle, trying to get its attention.
“You realise it can’t understand you, right?” You shake your head, holding your breath.
“How would you know?”
“Fair point.”
With Steve next to you, the fear subdued; surely both of you could easily take on Dart.
“Guys! Watch out!” Lucas shouted from afar. You turn at the warning, your breath leaving your body.
“Steve…” You gasp, turning around so you were back to back with him.
He finally peels his eyes off Dart and glances behind him. You almost feel his heartbeat stop.
More shadows emerged from the fog, slowly approaching, ready to pounce. Dart wasn’t alone.
“Abort mission!” Dustin screams from the bus, doors open and ready for your escape.
And that was when they decided to attack.
Steve immediately rolls put of the way as one pounces at him, stepping back up to swing his bat straight into its head. The creature landed heavily on a scrapped car. Another attacks, leaping onto the grass. But its sights were on you.
Snapping into action, you hit it with enough force to throw it across the yard and you stumble slightly from the impact.
“Y/n, move it!” Steve yells as he kicks another monster, heading to the bus.
He makes it to the doors, one foot lifting him onto the step as he turns to pull you in with him. But you’re not there.
In his break for freedom, he hadn’t seen that you couldn’t do anything. He didn’t realise that the creatures worked as a pack, picking off its prey.
Because they had decided to surround you instead.

Sometimes I forget that Leo is 19 and can’t drink in the states. I think he would get away with stealing drinks from the boys or having someone on the team order for him in public for a while but once the season’s started and people are actively watching the games, the bartenders and wait staff start to figure out who he is and catch him being sneaky
I only write drunkenness on a case-to-case basis because it squicks me out sometimes, but something about this ask really stuck with me. To @lalalasocks, I hope your sinuses feel better! Have some outside perspective of Coops to soothe the soul <3 SW credit goes to @lumosinlove!
TW for a drunken rookie (no explicit alcohol)
“Pots and I are going to take it up the left,” Sirius said, never taking his eyes off his whiteboard as he drew out the lines of the play. iPads were generally the more conventional tool, but he had a thing for tradition and Sirius Black’s flair for the dramatic never ceased to amaze. “Knutty?”
Leo nodded and leaned forward, swiping a drop of sweat off his temple with a glance toward the game as Talker flew past. “I’ll be in for the rest of the period as soon as Coach calls it.”
“Bien.” He tapped Remus’ shoulder pad with the end of his pen and marked a path up the other side. “Loops, the puck is coming to you fast, so you need to keep eyes on us. Once you get it, turn on the jets and get it in. Good?”
“Good,” Remus confirmed, bumping fists with James. Leo watched them with no small amount of surprise—even though Remus had only been a player for six months, their line was rock-solid. James was the powerhouse while Remus flashed down the ice; Sirius counterbalanced them both in the middle. He was grateful he wasn’t the one to see them coming at him on plays.
“1, 6, 7, 12!” Coach barked. Leo clenched his teeth around his mouthguard and got ready to hop the boards. A swish of skates, a bump of Kasey’s shoulder, and it was game time.
-----------
“I love you,” Leo hiccupped, plopping himself down in Logan’s lap and tangling a hand in his dark curls. He went to kiss his cheek, then frowned. “Oh.”
“Hi,” Sirius laughed with a gentle pat his side. “Good night so far, Knutty?”
Leo made a face. “Where’s my Canadian?”
“I have no idea.”
His lip slid out even further into a pout. “He told me I could sit on his lap,” he whined plaintively, resting his head in the crook of Sirius’ shoulder with a heavy sigh. The bar was warm—a little too warm, actually—but it felt nice to be sitting on something soft rather than feeling the sticky floor under his sneakers. And there was one more reason he needed to find Logan, one other highly important thing… “An’ I gotta give him a kiss.”
“Do you want to go look for him?”
Leo made a noncommittal noise and swung his leg under the table absently, letting the alcohol in his system lift all his post-game tiredness away. His head hurt a little from being awake so long. “How ‘bout I stay here and wait?”
“I think it’s about time to get you home.”
Leo sighed again, picking at a string on the knee of his ripped jeans. “Am I squishing you?”
“Non.”
“Mmkay.” A bright square of light half blinded him and he squinted. “Who’re you texting?”
“Finn.”
“Why?”
“So that he can pick you up and get you home before you fall asleep on me,” Sirius said, quite amused for some reason. “Comfy, rookie?”
He shifted even closer into the warmth and closed his eyes. Usually he got horny when he drank, but that feeling had already passed and a nap was sounding awful nice. “I like it when you call me that. Hate when other people do it, but it’s different with you.”
Sirius gave his upper arm a light squeeze. “Glad to hear it.”
“Used to drive me nuts,” he snorted. “Those first couple’a weeks on the team were rough.”
“…why?”
“Cause I had a huge crush on you.”
Cozy silence fell between them until Sirius moved to look at him. Leo blinked sleepily. “You what?”
“Well, Kasey was my first crush, right? I had his jersey an’ his poster an’ he’s fucking hot, but you’re the captain.” Sirius was so nice to him. Not everyone would have let a 6’4” hockey player sit on their lap and wait for their boyfriends. At the moment, though, Sirius looked a bit like Leo had thrown ice water in his face. “And obviouslyFinn and Logan are my boys and I love them so much and they were sopretty when I met them but, y’know, it’s the thrill of the captain vibe.”
“Am I interrupting something?” a new voice asked through poorly-suppressed laughter.
Leo turned his head to look up with a smile. “Hey, Loops, how’re you?”
“Pretty good.” Remus shared a look with Sirius, grinning, before taking the seat next to them. “You two look…content.”
“Oh, fuck off,” Sirius said immediately, though Leo felt his chest hitch with a laugh; he tapped Leo lightly on the elbow a moment later. “Finn’s heading over, d’accord?”
“But I just got here,” he mumbled.
“You’re in my spot,” Remus teased, sliding a glass over. “Drink up, bud.”
Leo narrowed his eyes. “What is it?”
“Water.”
He thought for a second—he wasn’t thirsty, but his mouth was getting dry—and yawned, sitting up enough to stretch before grabbing it. In two gulps, it was gone. “Aw.”
Remus bit his lip and passed a different glass over. “You can have mine too, it’s okay.”
“How are both of you so nice?” he asked, looking between them in something like distress. The music was getting too loud, but they were both watching him intently. “It’s not even fair, man. Can’t you just be an asshole for once so the rest of us don’t look bad?”
Sirius shook his head and pressed the water cup into his hand. “Been there, done that. Do not recommend. Besides, the designated drivers don’t get to be mean.”
Leo felt a little better once the water was gone; he blinked slowly, scanning the crowds for any signs of Finn’s hair or Logan’s ass. Both were identifying features he would never get tired of. “Loops?”
“Yeah?”
“Why is your hair soft?”
“I—” He tilted his head to the side in confusion. “Have you ever touched my hair?”
He leaned back against Sirius, stretching his legs out until his knees popped. “No, but it looks soft. Like Finn’s, if Finn was blonder and had curls. Fluffy.”
“It’s very fluffy,” Sirius confirmed, pulling him up a little more.
“Hey!” Leo protested. “Watch the hands, your boyfriend is right there!”
Sirius rolled his eyes with a huff. “I was making sure you didn’t slide off the bench.”
“Sure,” Leo said with a suspicious glare. “Just ‘cause I won MVP for this game—”
“Okay,” Sirius groaned, standing and detangling his limbs to transfer Leo’s weight onto Remus. “I’m going to go get your boyfriends from wherever they got distracted, and then you’re going to go home and sleep so you’re not dying at practice tomorrow. Oui?”
He disappeared into the mass of people without giving Leo time to respond, wiping his hands on the thighs of his jeans as he craned his neck to see over people’s heads. “Rude,” Leo sulked, cuddling up into Remus’ side instead.
“I know, right?” He took a sip of something lemony and Leo pulled a face. “What?”
“Aren’t you DD?”
“Last I checked, DD’s are allowed to drink lemonade,” he laughed, patting the top of his head. “That was an awesome save in the third, by the way. You could’ve got the hat from that one alone.”
“Which one?” Leo yawned again, licking his lips to rid them of the stickiness he could feel forming.
“The splits one.”
“Mmm, yeah, that was pretty badass.” More people darkened his periphery and he scooted over to make room. “Hey, mes amours.”
“I hear you were bothering our dear captain?” Finn asked, kissing his cheek with a grin. There was no alcohol on his breath, only the mint from the peppermint candies he always stole from the little container by the bar. “Come on, baby, time to go.”
“But Loops and I were talking,” he whined, though it only took a small tug on Finn’s part to get him to snuggle up into his soft shirt. “He was telling me how good I did in the game.”
A warm hand stroked his hair out of his eyes; warmer lips brushed his forehead, and he felt Logan’s hand on his knee. “Bedtime, love,” he said in a quiet voice, almost too soft for Leo to hear over the noisy bar. “Wanna be in the middle?”
Leo looked up in hope. “Really?”
“Ouais. C’mon, Knutty, up you go.”
He wobbled a little as he stood, but got his feet under him within a few moments with the help of Finn’s arm around his waist and waved off everyone else’s offered help. “Gonna be fine for practice,” he promised, patting Sirius’ hand with a nod. “Totally fine, don’t worry. Go—hic—go grind on your boyfriend, ‘kay? You both need it.”
“Sweet Jesus,” Sirius muttered. “I pity your head in the morning.”
“I’m fine,” Leo scoffed. He was already sleepy—there was no way he would have a headache, not after he had two whole glasses of water. “G’night.”
“Drive safe,” Sirius and Remus chorused as Logan fit himself under Leo’s other arm to kiss his neck twice, sending butterflies through his stomach. The outside world was nice and quiet; Leo barely got himself buckled into his seat before dozing off with his head against the cool passenger window.

Daddy goldie gimme some good manga recs im bored waiting for drifters update😭
as long as you gib me one back; i need help to cope with drifters too :'[
I'll start with the most recent series I picked up and am en-joying: Ayashimon. Shonen. Youkai. Yakuza. Have your ears perked up yet? It's got a promising premise so far and fantastic art. I like it! (P.S. You might notice the art style is very similar to Chainsaw Man— that's because Kaku Yuji and Tatsuki Fujimoto have worked together before!!!)
Hell's Paradise. Created by, again, the same person who created Ayashimon, the genius Kaku Yuji. And my. oh. my. I haven't seen much traction for this series anywhere, but this one had me HOOKED. Each page had me reading up down sideways. THIS IS PERHAPS MY NO 1. RECOMMENDATION ON THiS LIST. It has a unique concept and awesome plot twists. And, spoiler alert, I found the ending to be very satisfying, which comes rare when we're talking about shonen series. Quality, quality, quality.
Natsume Yuujinchou. Slice of life, youkai, and Pure Hot Soup for da Chilled Soul. This had me on that reminiscing shit, reminding me to cherish the wonderful things in my life. Honestly, please, I lied because this is my number one recommendation on this list. You won't regret it. I prefer the anime, because oh great heavens, the soundtrack, the aura— everything amplifies everything. There's a reason why it has six season. But I've read the manga and love everything to bits. Natsume Yuujinchou is so special and very dear to my heart.
The Morose Mononokean. We are on the grind for youkai series todayy. I haven't finished this one yet, but it's cute and fluffy. Love!
Sakamoto Days. A very nice and light ongoing read. The series follows an ex-assassin-turned-family-man-who's-given-up-on-the-trade-but-the-trade-hasn't-quite-given-up-on-him. 'Nuff said— please check it out!
My Home Hero. Oh my god. Oh. my. god. Now, I don't usually look at seinen, but this one... so masterfully done. It's a thriller and it had me on the edge of my seat, sweating bullets. Crazy. Crazy good. Just about an average father who is willing to do whatever it takes for his daughter. w

I was just here thinking about how I've been in this fandom for roughly three and a half years now and how it all came to pass and how life is a bitch, you know.
I was just minding my own business, lalala, and then a freaking vampire teen show on the CW decided not to give me my promised endgame, and that made me so ??? indignant ??? I had to start reading and writing fanfiction. And now three and a half years later I'm still here, more obsessed with the pairing than I had ever been while the shows were airing, all because they wouldn't deliver on this basic promise.
I mostly dislike everything that happened to the TVDu after S5 of TVD. Few scenes here, few characters there, whatever. But I didn't enjoy it anymore. It didn't SPARK JOY. And yet I was really chill about it. I see people getting legit mad at showrunners and stuff, and while I understand the feeling, I never really shared that hatred because I was always willing to accept that TVD was just going to be bad. And there's nothing wrong with that! lol I enjoy the bliss of crappy TV. Bad, absurd, nonsensical shows can make for really great entertainment. Not everything has to be Six Feet Under, you know. And when I started watching TVD, I think mid-season 3 was already airing, or maybe s4 was about to start, so I had a pretty good idea what I was getting into, never had any expectations about what a teen drama on the CW was or was not going to deliver. I was chill.
So when it went from bad-but-actually-good to just bad, I was just shrugging, rolling my eyes and going 'ok', because all I wanted was my endgame. That's the only reason I was watching it. I was never drawn to TVD as a whole, the storytelling was never that compelling to me, the world building never truly gripping, and while the first 3 seasons were REALLY good (S2 and 3 are awesome, come on), what kept going back every week was Klaroline. And I figured, even after S4, one day the crossover will happen, they will bring those two back together. There's no way they're just gonna throw this out. I was willing to wait patiently for it. However long it takes.
Not really though, because I ended Marie Kondo-ing the shit out of that and quit TVD on S7 and couldn't make it past the beginning of TO S3, so I dropped both. But every six months I would hop on Google and type 'Klaroline crossover'. Something told me one day it would come. When S5 was finally announced, I felt PEACE, man. I was like YES, FINALLY. I KNEW IT. I felt REWARDED. I EARNED this.
And here's the thing about me: all my ships die. It's just a curse I carry with me that I'm sure I will pass on to my children, and my children's children, and their children after that. The curse of being eternally heartbroken and frustrated over fictional characters. It's awful here, guys. Real life sucks and then THIS, you know. So unfair.
It's so, so rare for me to actually have a ship that gets me INVESTED. Even when I like characters/a show/a pairing, for me to have PERSONAL FEELINGS towards them, it takes mountains moving and planets aligning. And so far, whenever it has happened, someone died. I NEVER got my endgame. EVER. And when I wrapped myself around Klaroline like a snake around a little calf it wants to devour, it was because I, fool that I am, thought there was NO WAY a teen vampire show wasn't going to give me my endgame, especially when they had been hinting at it for YEARS. TVD LITERALLY ends with them saying Klaroline was endgame. I had just had my heart ripped apart by The Good Wife and Homeland. Torchwood, my OG fandom and only other time I ever got into fanfiction, killed my soul. Cowboy Bebop, my baby Yokie ship? Dead. Beautiful, poetic, I fully support it - but also, consider my heart.
I saw these two vampires, VAMPIRES, and I thought: wow, I'm finally safe. It's the BASIC understanding of teen shows that ships need to happen. You don't cheat teenagers, dude. You don't break their hearts. That's just mean. And then when S5 was announced, I knew I had been right all along. I watched that mess and I was like "They have Nazi vampires in this season and Klaus is out there saying shit like 'They hate me because of what I am' [a hybrid, not a mass murderer psycho who's also essentially an asshole *affectionate*], but hey - it'll be fine. Klaroline will be endgame. Nazi vampires don't matter. Klaroline matters."
I was chill, dudes. I was very chill. Compared to how vitriolic people have been about TVD over the years, I was just CHILL.
And then they betrayed me. While I will argue that Klaroline ended up being *the* endgame pairing, since Elijah essentially worked to get Hayley killed (hahahaha dude wtf), and Caroline and Klaus were *it*, as we always knew they would be, I was just... Livid. I could not BELIEVE what those bitches had done to me.
This was me:
Tumblr media
They put me through NAZI VAMPIRES, YOU GUYS. Klaus was like 'Oh no, they are killing wolves, because they are LIKE ME' when he basically spends his entire TVDu career HATING and KILLING wolves himself. And it was all for NOTHING.
I can take shows like The Good Wife killing my ships. I was destroyed, but I can take it, because shows like TGW aim to be 'superior drama'. They are going for the awards. I don't feel cheated by them. But The Vampire Diaries? Are you effing kidding me?
I had been watching TVD for years before that fateful day in August 2018 when Klaus turns to glittery dust without having ever felt like reading fanfiction. But I remember I finished that episode, got my computer, and went straight to AO3. From the ashes of my indignation, an urge was born. And I've been here ever since.
I wasn't even asking for a *good* finale. I had long abandoned any notion that this show, which featured Nazi vamps and a snowflake baby that grows up to kill the mom who basically raised her all by herself, was going to give me *good*. I just wanted it to BE, period. All I wanted was to collect my fan service and be done with it. I'm easy to please, I'd be happy. If they'd given me that, I would probably not be here right now. AND YET.
Why am I writing all this? I have no idea. I was just thinking about it. Life, huh? Just as pointless as this post.

Tumblr media
It was a terrible idea, really, to work the night shift at a gas station alone. Even more so when you’re a young woman whose only defense is the pepper spray on her key chain and 911 on speed dial. Alas, college bills don’t pay themselves and every spare opportunity to get cash was one I had to take.
The digital clock sitting on the counter next to me briefly flashed, indicating another hour had gone by. It was currently four a.m. and it was safe to say I was losing my mind. I’d worked for five hours now, and not a customer had come in. That was the only advantage, really. So long as no one was around my boss let me finish any assignments I had, which came in handy on more than one occasion.
I was only six paragraphs into a five page report and had been staring at my laptop screen for over an hour, feeling beyond brain dead. I was assigned the topic of financial statements and country trade deficits, and wanted to cry every minute I thought about it. I was half convinced to pay someone to write the report for me.
The ringing of a bell indicated a customer opening the door and I closed my laptop to peer around the counter, ready to greet whoever entered. The first man to catch my attention was wearing sunglasses which fazed me, but I tried not to stare. The man that followed had black hair with blond underneath, a combination that I strangely liked. Both men were donned in all back, their faces stoic. They were attractive, I had to admit, but neither were my type.
And then, the last man entered. He looked over to me as he walked through the door, giving me a nod and a slight smile. His slicked back black hair matched his black ripped jeans and highlighted his red leather jacket. He was so handsome he looked like he jumped out of a magazine and I had to suppress a ‘wow’. A string of butterflies fluttered in my stomach and I did my best to ignore them, not even knowing his name.
The three of them wandered through the aisles until I could no longer see them, and I scolded myself for being so thrown off that I forgot say any form of a greeting. I sighed and turned my attention back to my laptop, opening it and blankly staring at the screen. My ears perked when I heard the men’s hushed voices.
“Y’oughta get that girl’s number. I saw the way you looked at her.”
“Yeah, Jongho. She’s pretty cute. If you don’t get her number you know I will.”
“Shut up.” One of the men, Jongho apparently, responded with a laugh, “Let’s just get some snacks, okay? It’s gonna be a long night. Also I’m buying tonight so get whatever.”
A smile crept on my face and I looked down, fiddling with my thumbs.
They think I’m cute. Maybe Jongho’s the one in red?
I heard the bell ring once more and a girl entered who I vaguely remembered from high school. She was popular but for good reason, probably being one of the nicest people I’d ever met. Our circle of friends overlapped slightly so I’d spent a fair amount of time with her. She was smart as a whip and gorgeous all the same, which seemed to stay with her. She looked bright, long red hair falling around her face, freckles still prominent as ever.
We met eyes and she smiled, “Hey y/n!”
I smiled and waved, “Hey Annabelle. How’ve you been? I haven’t seen you in awhile.”
“Good! I got into my dream college and it’s been great, although I’ve had to take some pretty hard classes.” She giggled, walking towards me. It’s honestly not too far from here. You go to Westgate University, right?”
I nodded and I put my laptop aside. She spoke again, genuinely excited for me, “That’s awesome! Congrats!”
“Thanks,” I smiled, “I’m taking it you got into Orholt?”
“I did! I was really-”
One of the men that entered earlier—the one still wearing sunglasses—shouted the redhead’s name and caught her attention, “Hey Anna do you want a Redbull or a Five Hour Energy?”
“Redbull! I’m not a monster.” She laughed.
The man nodded and walked toward us with several drinks and snacks in his hands.
“Oh! I want to introduce you to my boyfriend!” Annabelle turned to the man still wearing sunglasses and reached for his arm, “This is Minho. I met him at Orholt.”
Minho gave me a slight nod as I introduced myself and he placed the food and drinks on the counter. I began to scan the items, the mindless routine that I was used to by now. The loud sound of laughter made me look up, seeing the two other men approach us and place their snacks down as well. I watched them long enough to notice the way two-tone—my new affectionate name for the man with blond and black hair, I decided—shamelessly checked me out, a cocky smile on his face when I caught him. I just let out a small laugh before resuming my task, watching his confused reaction in my peripheral vision.
“Oh my god I totally forgot to introduce you to my friends.” Annabelle giggled and pointed to two-tone, “This is Wooyoung.”
“Hiya, Wooyoung.” I said with a confident smile, enjoying the way he still had a slightly confused look on his face.
“And this,” Annabelle nodded towards the man in red, “This is Jongho. Both him and Wooyoung go to Orholt, too.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Jongho. I’m y/n.”
“Very nice to meet you.” The man smiled before he sent me a wink.
I had never been a particularly shy person, but as he did so my eyes darted down as I felt my face flush. I didn’t notice the gears turning in Annabelle’s head as she put the pieces together.
I placed the final items in the bag, raising my head as Annabelle addressed me,  “You know I’m having a bonfire tomorrow night at my place and you should totally come!”
I stopped to think, first trying to remember if I worked the next day, then wondering if I was willing to go the bonfire when I realized I didn’t have to.
She sensed my hesitancy and her face fell, “Aw do you work tomorrow night? It’s a Saturday!”
“Oh no, I don’t. I...” I stopped to think for a minute. Although I likely didn’t know anyone else who would be there, I was familiar with Annabelle’s house, which brought me a bit of comfort, “Are all of you going?”
Annabelle gave a knowing smile, “Yes. All of us will be here.”
I nodded, accepting the credit card Jongho gave me, quickly after handing them the bags, and returning his card, “I’ll go.”
“Yay! We’ve gotta head out but I’ll send you the details. You’ve still got the same number, right?”
“Yeah I do.”
“Alrighty! I’ll see you tomorrow then!”
Annabelle left with a wave, her boyfriend on her arm and Wooyoung behind her. To my surprise, Jongho didn’t leave with them, the cocky look on his face all but telling me why he stayed.
I looked at him with wide eyes, playing innocent. “Can I help you?”
He placed an arm on the counter, his dark eyes seeming to put me under a spell. The confidence he was radiating was almost palpable and I felt myself being pulled to him. It was intimidating, to be honest.
“You’re really cute and I want your number.”
I let out a surprised laugh, “You really don’t beat around the bush, do you?”
“No, not really,” He propped his other arm on the counter, leaning towards me and raising an eyebrow, “So what do you say, doll?”
A smile crept on my face as I mirrored his actions and leaned towards him, “You gonna memorize my number? Or do you have a phone I can put my number into?”
Jongho’s smile got brighter as he reached to grab his phone, handing it to me. “You’re a firecracker, aren’t you?”
I shrugged, “I’d like to think so.”
When I handed his phone back, our fingers brushed and I could’ve sworn I felt sparks shoot through me at the simple interaction.
“Well I need to head out before the rest of them get too annoyed,” He nodded towards the exit where Annabelle, Minho, and Wooyoung left, “But it was enchanting to meet you, y/n.” He bowed, drawing a laugh from me.
“Ah yes. You as well, absolutely delightful.”
He gave me a smile, “I’ll text you later.”
"Sounds good. I’ll hold you to your word.”
“I’d expect nothing less.” And with that, he was out the door, leaving my heart a fluttering mess.

Me [8:37pm] So is there a dress code for tonight?
Annabelle [8:42pm] Nope! Wear whatever you’re comfortable with. I’m wearing this if it helps at all!
Annabelle [8:43pm] 1 Image Attached*
Me [8:45pm] So leather jackets and crop tops?
Annabelle [8:48pm] Haha sure! We can match!
Me [8:51pm] Lol bet. See you at eleven :)
Annabelle [8:51pm] See you then!
I started the process of slipping on a white cropped top followed by my light washed ripped jeans. I knew I was getting ready far earlier than I could have, but something about new events made me anxious and I had to make sure I looked nice. I giggled at the black leather jacket I was throwing over my shoulders, not having worn it since high school. In the middle of debating whether or not I should add another layer of mascara to my lashes, my phone dinged.
New Number [8:59pm] Y/n this better be you. This is Jongho and I’m texting you for a really important reason and I need you to reply quick
Me [9:00pm] Yeah it’s me. What’s going on are you okay??
New Number [9:02pm] I’m gonna go grab some food before I head to Anna’s. You wanna come with?
Me [9:02pm] Oh my god don’t do that to me, you buffoon. You scared me so bad rip
[New Number name changed to A Cute Buffoon]
Me [9:03pm] But sure I’m down lol. Here’s my address btw
Me [9:03pm] 1 Location Shared*
It occurred to me perhaps a bit too late that I was sharing my address with someone that I’d met only once and in a gas station.
I mean, he’s friends with Annabelle so he’s gotta be good right? God I hope so. I thought to myself.
A Cute Buffoon [9:04] Then it’s a date :) I live pretty close so I’ll be over in 10. That work for you?
Me [9:06pm] Fine with me!
A Cute Buffoon [9:06pm] Sounds good. I’ll see you soon ;)
I set down my phone and thanked myself for already doing my makeup. I checked myself out in the mirror, satisfied with my appearance and proud of how well my makeup turned out. I grabbed my bottle of perfume and spritzed the liquid in the air, letting it gradually fall on me so it wouldn’t be too overpowering.
You look beautiful, babe.
The waiting game was harder than I thought, not knowing what to do except awkwardly sit around and play an assortment of phone games. When exactly ten minutes had passed I heard my doorbell ring and I lifted myself from my couch, grinning at his punctuality.
I opened the door to see Jongho holding a bouquet of flowers, a smug look on his face. “Lovely to meet you here, stranger.”
I wanted to make a joke back but I couldn’t seem to think of anything, too surprised by the flowers in his hands. It wasn’t anything extravagant, the small bouquet of violets, but I felt my heart swell.
It’s perfect. He’s perfect.
My voice was small when I spoke, “No one’s ever given me flowers before.”
His eyebrows furrowed as a confused look painted his face, “Really?”
I nodded, taking the flowers from his outreached hands and smelling their sweet fragrance, “They’re beautiful.”
My eyes flickered to his, the tender look on his face making me feel as if I was melting on the spot, “You’re beautiful.”
I squealed, my face undoubtedly turning pink while my mind short circuited. I’d never become so shy around someone before and the only thing I could think of to say in response was another ‘thank you’ followed by ‘I’ll go get a vase for these.’
I opened my door further, rummaging through my cabinets for a vase when I noticed Jongho was still standing by the door, “You can come in, you know? That’s why I opened the door.”
He laughed nervously, “Sorry about that. Force of habit, I guess.”
I raised my eyebrows in a teasing manner, “What? Are you a vampire? Can you only come in if someone invites you?”
I thought I saw a flicker of shock on his face for a moment, but it was gone before I could register it and I shrugged it off, my eyes finding the perfect vase for the flowers.
“It’s just how I was raised.”
“I get that.” I placed the flowers in the vase, giving them a bit of water before walking up to Jongho and gently patting his cheek, “Your good manners are appreciated.”
He laughed in surprise, full gummy smile on display as he playfully swatted my hand away from his face, “Alright, alright. Let’s head out already.”
I made a sound of agreement before noticing a slight pink on his ears. I was temped to tease him, but ultimately decided to save it for later. If I could fluster him once I knew I could do it again.
-
The diner we went to was one I’d never heard of before, let alone been to, and I was beyond frustrated that I didn’t even know about it’s existence. It was an adorable fifties style diner and even the attire the waiters were wearing fit the theme.
“This is the cutest place to ever exist, I’m convinced.” I said as we sat down on the same side of a bright red booth.
“I really hoped you would like it. This is my favorite restaurant ever and they have fantastic milkshakes. If you’d like to share one for desert, I’m all for it.” A wink.
I bit my lip and hid my face in the menu that was placed in front of us, thankful for any method of escape.
“You’re so cute.”
“Ahh no don’t say things like that.” I giggled from behind the menu.
His hand grabbed the top of the menu, pulling it down so he could see me, “Why’s that?”
“Because you make me nervous. Like a good nervous!” I tried to explain, which only resulted in becoming even more embarrassed, “I-I mean I’m excited to be around you but I’m also nervous. I hope that doesn’t sound weird.” I cringed at myself. Never in my life did I think I’d be blushing and stuttering over some man, but my god did he prove me wrong.
“Not at all,” he reached over to take my hand in his, “because I feel it, too.”
Before I could properly react our waitress came over, taking our order and effectively saving me from becoming a human tomato.
We handed our menus back to her after ordering and she looked at us with a soft smile, “You two make a cute couple.”
While I was a bit too stunned to say anything, Jongho didn’t seem to have the same problem and went along with it, “Thank you, ma’am. That’s kind of you to say.”
When she left, Jongho leaned closer to me, “I hope I didn’t make you uncomfortable by saying that we we’re a couple. I thought that-”
“No, I didn’t mind it!” I bit my tongue after likely saying that way too fast with far too much enthusiasm, but I meant it, “I didn’t mind it,” I said again, softer this time.
The tips of his ears once again turned a faint shade of pink, “Good to know.”
The food was as wonderful as it possibly could’ve been, their fries alone being one of the best things I’d ever consumed. Just as Jongho suggested, we shared a milkshake, which led to shy eye contact and laughter and my crush becoming stronger by the minute.
Just as Jongho paid and we were about to leave, a certain song began to play and he looked at me with an air of mischief, holding out his hand to me, “Dance with me.”
I took his hand, trying to hide my smile but failing. He led me away from the table and next to the jukebox. The area surrounding it was more open, probably with the intention for people to dance near it. He grabbed my waist, holding the hand of mine that wasn’t placed on his chest and looking at me in a way that could make any woman fall in love on the spot. We swayed to the music and I couldn’t help but feel full. Like I’d found all that I’d ever need.
Put your head on my shoulder~
“Do you know this song?” He asked with a smile.
I scoffed, “Of course I do! It’s one of my favorites.”
“It’s one of mine, too.”
Hold me in your arms, baby~
I mouthed along to the words as I felt the need to prove it to him. As if to one up me, Jongho began to sing along, his gorgeous voice amazing me.
Squeeze me oh so tight, show me~
That you love me, too~
I blushed as he looked at me while singing along, becoming a bit flustered himself when the lyrics clicked with him.
Put your lips next to mine dear~
Won’t you kiss me once, baby~
As if we were in sync our eyes darted to the other’s lips at the same time. I could feel Jongho’s breathing becoming heavier before he said in a hushed tone, “Can I kiss you?”
“Please.” Was all I could respond before I pressed my lips to his, fireworks igniting inside me when he kissed me back. His lips were so soft and warm and as crazy as it sounded, he felt like home. I felt him smile against my lips as the music continued to play.
Maybe you and I will fall in love~
-
The fire was loud, crackling and lighting up the faces of all those crowded those around it. It was essentially the only source of light in the dark of the night, except for the distant lights still on in Annabelle’s house. My hands were interlocked with Jongho’s as we sat around it’s warmth, both of us finding it hard to separate from one another.
Conversation was flowing all around us, and I was relieved to find that everyone I had talked to was kind and welcoming. I was more nervous than I realized, but having Jongho next to my side alone calmed me. Someone around the fire mentioned an old story involving Annabelle and I began to wonder where she was, having not seen her since Jongho and I first arrived. I mentioned I was going to look for her and he nodded, at first wanting to join me but then getting pulled into conversation with one of his former classmates. I told him I’d head off on my own and he nodded again.
I looked around what seemed to be the entire property and still there was no sight of her. At that moment I heard yelling coming from her house, startling me. I felt my blood run cold when I recognized one of the voices as Annabelle’s. The yelling didn’t sound like it was out of fear, but instead more aggressive, out of pure anger. Without thinking I ran inside, hoping to calm the situation but instead found what seemed to be out of a work of fiction.
An unfamiliar man was on the ground, obviously trying to get away from a hidden figure before him that seemed to be cloaked in darkness. He let out a sound that I’d never heard a human make, one that I couldn’t even compare to something I’d heard before, and a shiver ran down my back. As the figure took a step forward I recognized it as Annabelle, or what seemed to be some version of her. Her normally grey eyes were now bright red, sharp fangs on display as she snarled at the man. A group of people were surrounding them, alarmed looks on their faces but hardly trying to intervene.
“What the hell?” I whispered, my eyes wide as I tried to back away without anyone noticing. But of course, I just had to step on an empty soda can, all eyes pointing my way. As I looked at the people around me, their expressions seemed to mirror mine and I swallowed, suddenly feeling immensely claustrophobic.
I met eyes with Annabelle and she seemed to change in a flash, her eyes returning to their former color and fangs disappearing. She looked more panicked than I had ever seen her which only scared me more. She was always able to keep her stressors under control, but as she stared back at me, I saw a version of her I never had before.
I was barely able to form a sentence, adrenaline coursing through me at a rampant rate, “Um...”
Annabelle slowly walked towards me, “Oh—hey! Sorry I disappeared for a while but how’s the party going? Are you having fun?” Panic was still evident in her voice but I knew she was trying to keep a hold of the situation.
“I...I don’t-”
A stern voice came from left, and I nervously turned to meet Jongho, an unreadable expression crossing his face, “Y/n.”
“Yeah?” My voice squeaked as I began to regret agreeing to come along in the first place, still hyper aware of all the eyes on me.
“Come with me.”
His eyes softened at my panicked state and he held out a hand, “Please?”
I was hesitant, but being anywhere away from the crowd and whatever Annabelle turned into seemed to be a good idea. I took his hand and watched as he exchanged a look with Annabelle that seemed to calm her. Turning on his heels he led me back to the bonfire, sitting in a chair and motioning for me to do the same. Seeing no one around us gave me a feeling of both anxiety and comfort, and I wasn’t quite sure which feeling was winning at the moment.
“Well I’m sure you have plenty of questions.” He started, “I won’t lie to you and try to convince you what you saw wasn’t real, because it was, but I need you to know that no one is going to harm you. That guy is Anna’s roommate and they get into an argument at least once a week. Sometimes it can be nasty, but they never get physical and neither would ever hurt anyone unprovoked. No one here would.”
I was silent for a few minutes, trying to process what I saw on top of the time bomb of information he dropped on me. “Is she...is everyone....are you a vampire?” I whispered the last words, almost too stunned and afraid to say out loud.
He smiled slightly, his kind eyes making me feel safe. “Yes. We’re what you’d call vampires.”
I took a breath, almost afraid to hear the answer to my question, “Am I in any danger by being here?”
“No, everyone here is good. They don’t pose any threat. There are plenty of dangerous vampires but we stay away from them. Besides,” He placed an arm around my waist, playfulness in his eyes, “If there were, I’d protect you from them.”
“Oh? And how don’t I know you’re not dangerous?”
He leaned closer to me, clearly enjoying this, “You don’t, I suppose. Doesn’t that make it fun?”
“That’s very much debatable,” I smiled for a moment before a frown took over, “Everyone just seemed really...I don’t know, startled I guess?”
Jongho let out a loud sigh, looking down at the ground for a few seconds before looking back up at me, “Humans aren’t normally invited to these parties. It’s assumed that everyone here is a vampire. The perfume that you’re wearing, whatever the hell it is, is masking your scent. If I didn’t meet you before today I wouldn’t have known you were human. I guess Anna didn’t tell everyone, either.” He placed a hand on my knee and looked at me with kind eyes, “How are you feeling?”
“Surprisingly calm considering that I just learned vampires exist.”
Jongho laughed, “Yeah I’d say you’re taking it pretty well. Like I said earlier though, I’m sure you’ve got plenty of questions, so fire away.”
“Yeah I have a few.” I hesitated, hoping he wouldn’t be offended by my question, “Exactly how old are you?”
“Oh are you gonna age shame me?”
“No but it’s probably an important thing to know...since we kissed and all.”
He laughed again and leaned back in his chair, placing his arms behind his head,  “How old do you think I am?”
I used his question as an excuse for my eyes to wander over his body. He was beyond attractive, very clearly fit and he knew it, which equal parts pissed me off and turned me on. As hard as I tried, I kept finding myself being pulled to his thighs. Even through his jeans I could tell he had strong thighs and I had to press my fingernails into my palm to keep from drooling. “From your appearance? Early twenties. From what age fiction usually tells us vampires are? I’d guess you’re a hundred and three.”
Jongho nodded with a smile, “I’m not quite that old but that’s a fair guess. You had it right the first time. I’m a pure born and we actually age, but we don’t age as quickly as humans. I’m twenty.”
“Pure born?”
“It means both of my parents are vampires.”
I nodded as another question came to mind, a smile on my lips. “Do you sparkle in the daylight?”
“Oh my god,” He covered his face with his hands, a mixture of a groan and a laugh escaping his mouth, “No, we do not sparkle in daylight, “His hands came to rest on his knees, “But it sucks that we really shouldn’t be in direct sunlight for over two hours a day. That’s normally the rule to go by. It’ll burn us if we’re in it for much longer than that.”
“So do werewolves and witches and everything like that exist, too?”
“Yeah pretty much. We don’t all get along, but we have to coexist. It’s something we’ve struggled with for a while, unfortunately. Basically everything you’d believe to be supernatural exists.”
I was silent for a while, not really knowing what else to say.
“Y/n? Are you doing okay? If you’re not comfortable being here I can drive you home right now or if you’d rather be alone I can call an Uber or—”
My heart skipped a beat at his kindness. “No, I’m okay. I guess I’m just surprised I’m learning about this just now.”
“We do a good job of hiding it. Also it was probably a given, but keep this as a secret if you can. Having a lot of people know about our existence can be risky.”
I gave him a silent nod, unintentionally leaning closer to him. The sound of approaching footsteps made me jump into Jongho’s arms. I didn’t know why I found comfort in him, knowing that he could be dangerous as well, but he’d been nothing but sweet to me. I had no reason to fear him.
Annabelle approached us but stopped, taking a few steps back when she saw how I was buried in Jongho’s arms.
“Hey y/n.” She rubbed her arm, looking down as if she’d done something wrong.
“I guess Jongho probably told you everything at this point. I’m really sorry if I scared you and I understand if you don’t want to be friends anymore.” Even in the dark I could see tears beginning to stream down her cheeks and I felt a pain in my chest.
I got up from Jongho’s hold and wrapped my arms around her, feeling her stiffen, “I trust you, Annabelle.”
Those four words seemed to relax her and she returned my hug, still sniffling, “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. We aren’t supposed to tell anyone and I thought you might hate me—”
I pulled back, “Why the hell would I hate you? You’re still you.”
She laughed through tears, gripping me tighter, thanking me over and over for not pushing her away.
We’re gonna be okay. It’s all gonna be okay.
-
Not too long after, Jongho drove me home. The ride was more silent than when we were headed to Annabelle’s house, but the air wasn’t heavy or uncomfortable. Feeling tired, I laid my head on Jongho’s shoulder, faintly hearing ‘sleep well, baby’ before drifting asleep.
When I woke, I was in my bed. I reached for my phone on the bedside table and found a little note placed next to it that read:
I hope you don’t mind that I carried you inside. I tried to wake you for like five minutes but you were out cold. Anyways, I had a really good time with you yesterday and I hope you had fun too :) Text me when you wake so I know you’re okay. -J
I looked at my clock and saw that it was still early, but I texted Jongho anyway.
Me [3:00am] Not sure if you’re still up, but I really enjoyed yesterday, too. I’m exhausted so I’m gonna go back to sleep but I just wanted to say I’m okay and everything is good :))
A Cute Buffoon [3:00am] Sleep well, darling. We can talk in the morning
-
It had been roughly a month since Jongho and I started dating, and while I felt like I knew him pretty well, we had only known each other a little over a month, on top of the fact that he was a vampire which was essentially an entire separate culture. I’d asked him most questions I had early throughout our relationship, but one in particular kept replaying in my mind.
We were currently sitting on the couch in my apartment, cuddling each other. The TV was on but neither of us were really watching it. I was far more interested in the warm body in front of me, and based off of how Jongho was looking at me, the feeling was mutual.
I bit my lip, anxiously mulling over the question I’d wanted to ask him for weeks. I didn’t know how he would take it, let alone how I would bring it up, but I needed to ask at some point. Knowing he could probably sense my nerves, I gave in. “Jongho, can a human turn into a vampire?”
He hummed, turning to face me. “Why do you ask?”
“I just...I didn’t know if it could happen or not.”
Jongho chuckled, “Yeah it’s possible. It’s a long ass process to go through though, and there’s a lot that can go wrong, so it rarely happens.”
I shifted in my seat, trying not to appear overly interested. “Why is that? What can go wrong?
He smiled and raised a brow, his cocky persona resurfacing, “You sound so eager to know, dear. Do you want to become a vampire?” His eyes briefly flickered towards my lips before he tilted his head, dragging his soft lips across my neck. I let out a gasp when I felt the tips of his teeth lightly scraping the skin, “Or maybe you’re just looking for an excuse for me to put my mouth on you?”
Like with anything that exuded him, I felt myself becoming quickly overwhelmed, my mind now hazy and distant. I shut my eyes in an attempt to gain some semblance of control over myself.
“Your thoughts are swirling, doll.” Jongho began leaving gentle kisses along the side of my jaw, “Don’t think too much. Just let me take care of you. Okay?”
“Okay.” I said through a short breath, knowing we’d just have to have the conversation another time.
We’d had sex before, so it wasn’t like this was new territory for us, but every time felt like the first, leaving me just as out of breath each time.
He lifted me and placed me on his thigh, dragging me across his flexed muscles. I felt my eyes roll back at the simple motion, my need growing at an embarrassing rate. I grabbed his shoulders as I began to drag myself against him, whines and whimpers spilling from my lips.
“God you’re hot,” Jongho said through hot breaths, beginning to kiss my neck, no doubt leaving marks.
“Thanks I try.” I managed to say, pleased when Jongho laughed.
“You don’t even have to, and it’s completely unfair.” His hands moved under my shirt and danced along my skin, “It’s like you’re an angel come to life.”
I let out a loud moan, feeling tears well in my eyes from his praise, “You always make me feel so beautiful when I’m with you.”
Jongho responded with a smile, carrying me to my bedroom and laying me down on the bed while hurriedly discarding both of our clothes.
“You’re always so eager, babe.”
He nuzzled my neck as he climbed on top of me, his hands finding my own and holding them, “As if you’re not.”
“I never said I wasn’t.”
He then moved in between my thighs, teasing me with his fingers as he ran them along my wet slit, occasionally rubbing my clit, drawing small whines from me.
“Jongho please just fuck me already.”
“Sweetheart, do you even think you’re wet enough for me?” He cooed.
Feeling frustrated, I pushed my fingers inside myself with ease, pulling them out and spreading them so he could see my essence dripping down my fingers, “I don’t know you tell me.” I said with far more sass than I intended.
Jongho’s eyes widened at the sight and wasted no time positioning his cock at my entrance, pushing in and letting out the most beautiful groans.
Neither of us ever bothered to use protection because, to put it simply, vampires couldn’t get humans pregnant. It was only possible when both partners were vampires, and we took full advantage of that.
“Fuck—baby you feel amazing. You’re so warm and tight ohmygod.” Jongho moaned as he began to move, thrusting in and out of me at a steady pace.
I clenched around him, loving when he was vocal. His sounds helped get me off just as much as his actions, at times it seemed.
“You feel...really good...too.” I said through heavy breaths. And as much as I wanted to last longer in bed, with Jongho, I never could.
“I don’t know if it’s because you’re a vampire and you’ve got like magic powers or something or maybe you’re just a sex god—but holy shit...I’m close.”
He threw back his head and had the audacity to laugh, something I really couldn’t stay mad at with how good he was making me feel. “Babe it’s been like six minutes.”
“Don’t be an asshole.” I joked, my laugh turning into a moan. It only spurred Jongho on, making him angle one of my legs up higher, hitting deeper inside of me.
“I know you’re close, baby. I can feel it. Cum for me, baby girl. Let go for me.”
He reached down to tease my sensitive nub, drawing quick circles until I was seeing stars, chanting his name like a prayer.
After Jongho came down from his high, he disappeared into the bathroom as he always did, coming back with a warm towel. As he pressed the towel to my thighs I tried to ask again.
“So...about the human to vampire thing?”
“Well,” Jongho sighed, “I didn’t think I’d be able to distract you forever.” He smiled, “It’s mostly done because couples want to stay together. The thing is though, the vampire obviously gets a taste of the human’s blood and it can be hard to stop once you’ve marked them, especially since smell is such a big allure for us.”
He took a long breath, “Then the human will almost always pass out, and needs to be taken care of for the next couple days because they’ll be so weak. Another problem is that the scent of their blood will be amplified during those days and it’ll be harder for the vampire to not, you know...” He looked away, not able to say the words. I knew what he meant, we both did. In some cases, vampires would kill their human partners for of their blood. Sometimes it was beyond their control. Just a primal need that would betray them. “Then their scent is more easily detected by other vampires and the whole thing is just kinda a mess. I think I’ve only heard of five attempts and only one of them was successful.”
I nodded, not really knowing what to say.
“And then on top of it all, it can be harder for the human to adjust and it can put a lot of pressure on the relationship. Human and vampire relationships are dangerous.”
His face was serious as he ran a hand through my hair. I looked up at him and leaned into his touch.
He cleared his throat and averted his eyes, a shy behavior I hadn’t seen from him before, “I guess it’s important for you to decide then.” His eyes met mine again, “Is this still something you want to continue?”
“Our relationship?”
“Yeah.”
“Of course, are you crazy? You mean the world to me.” I swallowed, realizing he hadn’t voiced his own thoughts, “What about you? Do you want this?”
“I think you have a pretty good idea of what I want.” He smiled and pressed a quick kiss to my forehead, his eyes sparkling.
“Hey Jongho?”
He hummed, looking at me.
“I want to spend forever with you.”

I Have Some Feelings
To start let me just emphasize how much I love and adore this show and always will. This was my covid show. Both of my kids loved “Lucifer” and always said I should watch so at the start of covid I binged it and when I say binged, I mean all 4 seasons in a few days and have rewatched so many times I’ve lost count. I think it is timeless, engrossing, original and all around amazing. The writing and the cast were all excellent. The writing was smart and consistently strong and that is so rare.  Funny, sad, poignant, it hit all the notes with very few plot holes or missteps. There is not one episode in the entire series that was not engaging. Even if I didn’t like an episode, it was still well done. What a rarity.
The cast is scary good. Completely underrated. Just all phenomenally talented.  I don’t remember the last time a cast was this strong.  From the core group to both reoccurring and guest stars, the cast was just fantastic.
Tom Ellis, no words.  The man deserves to choose whatever he wants to do acting wise. He should have people breaking down his door. He can truly do it all and do it all well. He took a character that if portrayed by a lesser actor could have come off as a complete asshole and made him one of the most sympathetic and loveable characters in recent history. Ellis made a crime solving devil, a promiscuous man-child that occasionally breaks into song and the evidence room into a beloved character that has become an icon.
Lauren German, WOW.  She is just so damn good. She can break your heart one second and have you laughing the next. She makes Chloe real, and people don’t realize how hard that is. Chloe is smart, kind, tough and gorgeous but she’s also an insecure dork.  She’s us and German just brings it.
DB Woodside I’ve loved since “Buffy”.  He is a phenomenal actor and who knew he could bring the laughs so well? His expressions were classic. Clueless angel indeed. Amenadiel could have been very one-dimensional but because of Woodside’s talent he became fully fleshed out and full bodied.
I have no doubt Lesley-Ann Brandt has a huge career in front of her.  She took a character that very well could have been hated, a demon and made her into one of the most human characters on the show. Kudos to her for taking a tough role and making it her own.
Kevin Alejandro is another actor I’ve loved for a long time.  He also took a character who if we’re going to be honest here did so many unlikeable things that he should have been truly despised but because of Kevin’s portrayal he was beloved. Great actor and a terrific director.
Rachael Harris IMO is the downlow MVP.  She was literally the rock and again, with a lesser actress the role could have been a throwaway. The normal human, the sounding board but Harris imbued her with so much more.  Her spit takes, sarcasm and her obvious compassion was what made Dr. Linda an unforgettable character. Once again just perfect casting.
Aimee Garcia was a great addition. She made Ella a fan fav and put so much heart, joy and sincerity into Ella never once did you doubt that she would prevail no matter what was thrown at her.  Garcia was just fantastic, and I want her skin care regime.
Scarlett Estevez pulled off the one thing I thought almost impossible.  She took the role of a young child and made it so I didn’t want to cringe. She portrayed Trixie so beautifully from day one that she was a true pleasure to watch.  Even though Trixie was super precocious Estevez never made her obnoxious. I loved Trixie and I have never said that about any child character in an adult show.  She was wonderful and has an amazing career in front of her.
That said, I’ve got some feelings now that I’ve seen the finale and have had some time to digest it all.  I love that Chloe and Lucifer had eternity and I agree that they had to be separated for Chloe’s lifetime. Didn’t like it but it’s the logical path. She’s human, he’s not. The ageing thing alone necessitated them not being together long term on earth and that’s just to start the list. They had to had to be apart for the short term to get their eternity but the duality of Lucifer's ending and Amenadiel's didn't sit right. Amenadiel as God got to have it all. His calling, his family etc. while Lucifer had to give up everything.  I also don’t buy the “If he came up from hell, he could never leave them again” defense.  I call bullshit.  Amenadiel managed, plus, missing out on the day to day is a huge sacrifice and by Lucifer missing out on the day-to-day Rory could still have had the hatred she needed to drive the story.  Popping in for birthdays, graduations, weddings, etc., the big stuff does not a father make.  Not being there for skinned knees, first heartbreaks, and all the little things a daughter needs her dad for can build up tons of resentment.  Boom, absentee father, just like his dad was. That provides all the millennial angel angst you could ask for. I have a daughter; it doesn’t take much.
The Trixie issue was huge for me. Can Chloe see her in Heaven? Will she be able to travel to Heaven and visit Trixie, Penelope, Dan, her father?  Chloe hesitated leaving Heaven in 5x16 because she couldn’t bear saying good-bye to her dad again. It seems as if Chloe sacrificed everything for Rory including Trixie. I want to preface this by saying. I liked Rory and loved the actress. I didn’t however like how it was as if she were their only child.  When Lucifer spoke of family Trixie was not mentioned. Their family day, the same thing. She didn’t need to be there, I get that the explanation regarding Rory would have been way too much to get into but just a mention of her, how awesome it would have been to share this day with her would have worked. It seemed as if Lucifer went from, “I would do anything to protect that little Urchin” to “Trixie who”. Trixie was a character that we watched grow up and she meant something to us. I hate to say this, but the writers did Trixie and the viewers dirty in this regard.
This show was built around a few premises.  Free will, honesty, redemption, sacrifice and family, both blood and made. The ending completely negated almost all of these.  Chloe and their entire family were made into the one thing Lucifer abhorred the most which are liars. Their daughter was brought up surrounded by lies. What did they tell Trixie?  The poor kid just lost her dad, and she was pissed at Lucifer when he went back to hell the first time. Did she grow up hating him because as far as she knew Lucifer left her mom again without saying good-bye and this time it was even worse because Chloe was pregnant.  I get that the actress who plays Trixie had limited availability but seriously. A quick good-bye.
“Hey Urchin, you won’t understand why for a long time, but I have to leave. You know I never lie so I can’t explain why but know that I love you and your mom and one day I hope you can forgive me.”
A 30 second scene would have worked.
As all the characters learned throughout the series, omission of the truth is just a form of lying and there are always repercussions i.e., Chloe and Father Kinley, Dan shooting Lucifer, Maze finding out about Lilith and even Ella not being told. As far as free will, both Chloe and Lucifer had their free will taken from them in the end. By Rory forcing them to abide by her wishes, their free will was forfeited. It was a huge manipulation on Rory’s part and considering how much Lucifer hated manipulations it just didn’t sit right.
Parents making huge sacrifices I get. Chloe and Lucifer sacrificed everything for their child. Unfortunately for me this sacrifice, the way it was written seemed contrived to pull out maximum and IMO unjustified angst. I love angst.  Hell, this is my favorite show.  I thrive on the angst. But as I wrote earlier, all the anger, angst and hatred towards Lucifer could have been achieved without having Lucifer completely out of the picture. I have two kids and my husband, and I have made huge life altering sacrifices for them as many parents do but being there for the day-to-day little things was what made the difference in their lives and cemented the close relationships we have with them.
“Yeah, dad you were great. Showing up for the fun stuff, always swooping in for the big finish to play the hero then ditching us when things got tough. When Grandma was dying where were you?  Nice that you showed up for the funeral but the six months leading up to it…we needed you and once again you weren’t there. When T got sick, when Jen broke my heart, blah, blah, blah…”
Even the whole Chloe dying scenario. They could have written it that rage Rory traveled minutes before Lucifer got there. Have him pop in right after Rory comes back. There were so many ways to achieve the end game they wanted other than the way they went. It seemed contrived and as if they took the easy way out to get where they needed to go. The Rory rage that was the catalyst for her traveling back in time and Lucifer finding his calling could still have been accomplished without the whole Lucifer disappearing storyline.
Now that I’ve finished my diatribe there’s a couple of additional things I would like to say.  Lucifer is and always will be one of my favorite shows of all time. There are not enough words to describe the comfort and enjoyment this show has brought me. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the producers, cast and crew. You truly created something special.
To the fandom. Please do not let a polarizing conclusion rip apart the fandom. The only other fandom I was a part of tore itself apart so badly that the FBI got involved.  Hence why I waited for 15 years to dip my toe in again. Everyone invested in this show has the right to their feelings.  Debate is fine, baiting and bullying are not. The Lucifer fandom like the show is very special. Without the fandom we wouldn’t have gotten any conclusion so don’t let opposing viewpoints tarnish what has been a magical journey.
