#unscientific aside#newmann#pacific rim#thinking about them again today#it's very easy to read hermann's animosity during the movie as him being pissed off at newt for his 'completely crazy'#theories getting attention + being a massive nuisance in general#that's exactly what it looks like if you just listen to WHAT he's saying#however if you pay attention to WHEN he says it & pay attention to his face when no one is looking it's very clear there's more going on im#like the kaiju entrails comment. newt has all these tables with guts set up right next to the line & has clearly been working there for age#theres a big pile of intestinal-looking tubes over on hermann's side of the floor already! not a peep from hermann!#but then when newt tries to join the conversation he happens to throw another little squidgy bit & suddenly hermann jumps on him about it#brings up in front of the marshall how CONSTANT this unprofessional conduct is while also cutting newt off#he physically puts himself between newt & pentecost#interrupts newt every time he tries to talk#starts making snarky little personal comments AT newt to discourage him - 'don't embarrass yourself' 'yes [just get to the point]'#'this is the point where he goes completely crazy' [significant look at newt]#keeps hovering in the background looking between newt & pentecost#like. ok he is SO MAD that newt is getting pentecost's attention here. obviously#the thing that does it for me though is how sad and resigned he looks when newt finally does get to the point#this is not the face of an angry rival#this is the face of a man with ulterior motives for his animosity#i dont think newt has any ulterior motives hes aware of lol he thinks hes in a movie about 2 geniuses vying for scientific superiority#happens to be in love with hermann but hasnt realized because hes so mad at him all the time#he only realizes how much hermann cares when he offers to drift with him

I think the feelings they have for the director cloud their view (I don't even know how either of his names). You got a 1:30hs movie vs a 2hs movie (I'm cutting the 10 minutes of credit for both) where in one you are never bored and are gripped by emotions and the other where you sit waiting for anything to happen. I genuinely want Peter to have like a story that’s all about him healing as an adult. Not completely, that would take forever but like finding someone he can feel normal with, a desire he constantly complains about in almost every iteration. Someone who he can do normal things with that is also helpful if not supportive of his life as Spidey (You can tell I really liked Chat)
He wants a life he can truly live and it would be nice to have an issue have that as a subplot. Whatever Spider-Man is doing is completely separate from what Peter has going on. His partner, friend, whatever, gets he practically has two separate lives and is truly patient. They would wait for him after a scouting or fight. Be okay with less lavish planned dates and get he is going to miss things. They signed up for this when dating a hero and they understand it.
Peter deserves for once to have someone consistently and overwhelmingly be in his corner. To be ready to sacrifice like him but at the same time remind him that he is Peter before he is Spider-Man, not only for them but for himself.

i watched the 2007 rgg movie tonight just to see what its like and i have a lot to say about it but for now i just doodled my favorite scene bc i could not handle it
#ryu ga gotoku#yakuza#overall my thoughts about it were that it was very funny but mostly in the ways it wasnt supposed to be#the casting was.... mostly bad honestly#kiryu's actor's face made me SO MAD he just pissed me off every time i saw him#he looked like some slick asshole i hated him#he didnt move or emote like kiryu either like that was straight up a different man#majima looked... not good. and sounded worse. BUT. his actor really fucking gave it his all#he was acted very well and conveyed majima perfectly i think. many good majima moments this was but one of them#funniest part by far was the nishiki reveal tho. MY GOD. he looked SO EXCEPTIONALLY BAD.#i was laughing for five solid minutes i had to pause and take a picture#my cheeks fucking hurt laughing at nishiki. dear lord. im very sorry to his actor he just. LOOKED. REALLY BAD.
