fossil_librarian It’s a rainy #mammalmonday here in Montana. So here’s a specimen of Titanothere or Brontorhere cheek tooth that was collected probably on a lovely warm day in June 1964, from Madison County, Montana. These large perissodactyls roamed MT between 42-38 million years ago and this specimen was found in the Renova Formation

As long as leopards have adequate food, water and cover, they can survive in nearly any habitat, from steamy rainforests to rocky deserts. To aid in the hunt for food, leopards have useful spots that help conceal them. Their colorings differ based on their surroundings, with leopards in open plains having spotted golden coats and woodland leopards, like the one pictured, having darker coats for better camouflage in the forest. These cats will eat virtually any animal they can overpower, and will go so far as to store the carcasses of their prey in trees, if other predators are around. #FieldMuseum #NaturalHistory #MammalMonday #taxidermy #leopard http://ift.tt/2FdQAyq

#Repost @oceana ・・・ For this #MammalMonday, we're celebrating the sperm whale, the largest toothed whale in the world. Surprisingly, these otherwise gentle giants are active predators capable of devouring large squids, bony fish and even sharks in the deep sea. Large conical teeth and powerful sonar abilities give the sperm whale an edge over the competition when searching for prey, and they can even dive incredible depths that other whales cannot. Learn more about the sperm whale and other mammals in our Marine Life Encyclopedia at Oceana.org/marine-life. 📷: Shutterstock/Shane Gross #spermwhale #oceans #whale #marinemammals
