Note
They're also up to something, judging by the way they look at each other.
Poppa/Momma body type, pls?
Tumblr media
They're both short(ish) and stout. Still very strong tho! They've got an entire career of hard work behind them.

"Len! Welcome home, sweetpea. Where's my Jimmy?"
Leonard McCoy knows better than to roll his eyes at his mama, less he'd like a strict talking to. That doesn't mean he won't do it behind her back as she swallows him into a hug. He melts into it without shame, 'cause it's been too damned long since he's gotten a well and proper hug from his mother. She's smaller than she used to be, he thinks, her head tucked perfectly beneath his chin; and hell, if he hasn't missed her.
Then, as if God and his mama were both out to embarrass him, Jimmy himself peers into the kitchen wearing a wide grin. His mama leans away and delivers Leonard one of her knowing smirks, one that seems to say that of course, as soon as they landed themselves a shore leave close to Earth, he'd be at her front door with none other than Captain Kirk in tow.
"Emily, it's been like, a million years!" exclaims Jim, who practically elbows Leonard out of the way to wrap his mother up in a hug of his own. No surprise there. The two of them have always been as thick as thieves, ever since Len had introduced them that first year in the academy. That was the day Len knew he was lucky to have such a woman as his mama. She had taken one look at Jim and had decided right then and there that she'd love him heart and soul--since no one else had seemed to put in the effort.
(He doesn't let himself think about how he'd done the same, on that fateful shuttle ride out of Iowa.)
"You better not be callin' me old, Jim Kirk," his mother teases, cupping Jim's face with all the care in the world.
"You? Old? C'mon, you know you don't look a day over nineteen."
Jim's smile is warm, holding her delicate wrists steady. Len leans against the counter, his own smile too complicated to express with words.
He could try with feelings, maybe.
Pride. Love.
"Always such a charmer, isn't he Len?" asks Mama, who swats at Jim's chest. She's then got that fond look on her face, the one she saves for when she's especially proud of her children. "And a Captain now, to boot. Oh, I knew you'd make it, darlin'. I am so damned proud of you, Captain Kirk."
And oh, something in Len's heart cracks at the expression on Jim's face. Jim's eyes, as blue as the sea, start to flood with unshed emotion, and his smile trembles into something fragile. Len remembers meeting Winona Kirk properly only once--a huge contrast in comparison to Jim and Emily McCoy, who bought each other Christmas presents and emailed back and forth regularly.
It'd been at their graduation ceremony, albeit briefly. Winona Kirk had shaken Jim's hand as if he were some one-off cadet, rather than her youngest baby, then had done the same to everyone assigned to the bridge under Jim's command.
Thank God for Emily McCoy, he thinks, just as Jim shoots him a look. Words can't describe that one, either, but if Len were to try and guess with feelings again... He'd say it ain't nothing short of love.

wolfstar raising harry au where harry goes to muggle pre-k and keeps trying to correct the other kids/teacher when they say “mommy/mama” and “daddy” because doesn’t everyone have a “moony/moomoo” and “paddy”
“Hello, you must be Harry’s father. I’m Katie McCoy, his teacher. Won’t you have a seat?” Ms. McCoy smiles kindly at them, so Sirius doesn’t bother to correct her that he’s not Harry’s father. They’ll have to eventually, but he lets it pass, for now.
“Thank you, Ms. McCoy.” Sirius sits next to her. “Harry adores your class. He tells us all about circle time and—what is it, foam paint?.”
She laughs. “Yes. it's just shaving cream and food dye, but the kids love it.” She crosses her hands over her knees. “Are we waiting for--?”
“My partner will be a few minutes late.” Sirius glanced at the clock on the wall, knowing Remus was hurrying from work to be here on time. “We can start now.”
“Alright, though I don’t mind waiting.” Sirius waives her on, and she begins. “Harry is really a wonderful boy. So inquisitive and funny. You’ve done a great job with him.”
Sirius smiles, trying not think of the fact that Harry is inquisitive like his mother and funny like his father. Their loss still hurts. Instead, he says, “We think so too. He’s a great kid.”
“He is.” Her face clouds for a moment, and Sirius wonders what could possibly be coming next. “I do have some concerns though.”
Any number of things rush through Sirius’s head as to what could bring on that comment. Harry is still mourning the loss of his parents, not really understanding why he can see his mum and dad the way other kids could. It’s possible he said something a bit darker than expected for a child.
Or, perhaps he’s had some accidental magic that the school hadn’t reported to them. They’d so far managed to keep Harry’s peculiar abilities under control, but it was possible that things were slipping by. Merlin, he didn’t want to call the Ministry tonight.
“Concerns? What is wrong?” Sirius tries to keep his voice light.
“Well, we’re concerned he may have a bit of a speech impediment.”
That makes Sirius pull back. In the entire world of problems he has, the talkative, exuberant little boy having a speech impediment was not one of them. His diction was impeccable, and Remus was always saying he’d be a natural at Transfiguration because of it. Just like James.
“I don’t think we’ve noticed that.” He says slowly, not sure what else to say.
“Well, it’s a very subtle difference, and I don’t think that we’d have noticed so much, except he keeps correcting the other kids to his pronunciations as well.” Her brows crease, and she gives her head a small shake. “On correction, he insists that he is correct.”
“What words is he getting wrong?” Sirius asks.
“Daddy and Mummy. He says it like—”
Before she can finish, the door opens and Remus sweeps in, a kind smile on his face. “Sorry, I’m late. Traffic was a nightmare getting here.” Sirius nearly snorts, knowing Remus apparated directly there. “What have I missed?”
Sirius looked at him as he sat down in the seat next to him. “Apparently, Harry might have a speech impediment.”
Remus looked surprised. “I certainly haven’t noticed anything like that.”
Ms. McCoy looked between them. “I’m sorry, who are you?”
Sirius bristles at the question. “This is Remus. We’re Harry’s guardians.”
“His guardians?” She looks more confused. “But he talks about going home with Mummy and Daddy?”
Sirius tilts his head as she asks the question. “I thought you said he was saying Mummy and Daddy wrong?”
“Yes, well.” She squares her shoulders, clearly thrown off. “Well, he’s been saying it something like Paddy and—”
“And Moony?” Remus finishes with a smile. “Yes, that’s what he calls us. Not Mummy and Daddy, but Moony and Paddy.”
Her face rounds out into an O. “I’m so sorry. I had no idea. Bit of unusual names for his—did you say guardians?”
Sirius nods, unable to speak, and Remus squeezes his hand. “Yes. Harry’s parents are—” he clears his throat “—were James and Lily. They were our friends, and now we are Harry’s guardians.”
“I’m so sorry for your loss, and for Harry’s. I had no idea.” She begins flipping through pages in front of her making notes. “His file didn’t mention anything about it.”
“We didn’t mention it when we enrolled him,” Remus says, squeezing his hand a bit tighter. “We didn’t want him to have to answer a lot of questions on it, and we still don’t.”
“Of course,” she looks up from her notes, meeting both of their eyes. “I’ll keep it quiet.”
“Thank you.” Remus smiles, with a raised eyebrow. “So no speech impediment then?”
“No, no I think that clears that up.” She looks at her notes again. “Let’s see what else I have on Harry.”
***
When they arrive home, Remus handles seeing Mary out while Sirius heads back to the kitchen where Harry is coloring. Sirius pulls up a chair next to him, grabbing his own piece of paper and a purple crayon. “Heya, Haz.”
“Hi, Paddy.” Harry doesn’t look up from his coloring. “Did you see my teacher?”
“I did, buddy.” Sirius draws the outline of an elephant, which he starts coloring in. “Do you know that not every kid in your class has a Paddy and a Moony?”
Harry looks up and beams brightly at him. “I know. I think I’m the luckiest boy in the world.”
Sirius chokes out a laugh, and mostly manages to hold back a tear. Harry looks down at his page, coloring again, and Sirius catches Remus’s eye as he walks in the room again, leaning against the door frame. “You know, I think you just might be.”

Heartbeat - McCoy x Reader
Prompt: Hear my Heartbeat? Just focus on that.
TW: Readers friend dies during labor, leaving the couple with a child to take in.
Tumblr media
“Hear my heartbeat? Just focus on that.”
Your face is pressed against Leonard’s chest as you force yourself to breathe in tune with him.
His heartbeat seems to sound through you, the only thing in the world that matters.
Five hours earlier your best friend has gone into childbirth. And you had not been there with her.
Four hours earlier there had been complications. And you had not been there with her.
Two hours earlier your best friend had given birth to a healthy boy. But she had not been conscious, had not been able to meet her son.
One hour earlier the doctors had fought for her life. But they had not won the fight.
“Two to beam up,” Mr. Scott calls from his place behind the glass wall, sending you an encouraging smile when the transporter room vanishes from your sight.
You appear in a transporter room that looks almost perfectly alike. Only Mr. Scott is not there, in his place sits a dark-skinned woman that sends you a comforting smile.
“Welcome to the USS Bradbury. Dr. Hagen is awaiting you in med-bay.”
You’re unable to speak, unable to walk until a warm hand finds a place on the small of your back.
“Come on, darling,” Leonard tells you, before thanking the woman working the transporter.
- It takes you fifteen minutes to get to med-bay. You want to turn around and bolt every single one of those fifteen minutes, but you can’t. This is about your friend.
“Did she tell you that she was pregnant?” The elderly CMO asks and you force a nod.
“Of course.”
“I assume you’ve been informed that the father died in an ion storm three weeks after the child was conceived.”
“Yes,” you croak, thankful for Leonard’s arms holding you upright.
“Are you aware that you are the noted as next of kin and therefore the first to be asked to take the newborn?”
“What?” You whisper in shock. Your body moves and just moments later you fall into a chair, your own weight pulling you down until you’re unable to get back up.
Leonard’s the one speaking now.
You look at his lips, trying to read from their movement.
He’s not angry, but he looks like he cares about whatever the answer to his questions will be.
The doctor raises his hands and you still wonder who he is waving too when a nurse appears on your side, handing you a bundle.
The boy looks just like her. Her skin tone, the color of her hair, the curve of her lips are all the things you see at first.
You hold the baby close.
- “What are we going to do?” You ask hours later, you head resting against Leonard’s chest, “They want us to decide..”
“Darling, she was your best friend. You were like sisters. I don’t think you would ever be able not to keep the boy.”
“I’m sorry. You said you did not want another kid.”
“Don’t be sorry,” he tells you, kissing the crown of your head, “I wasn’t planning one, not wishing for one either, but he needs us.”
“I’m scared,” you whisper, unable to tell him how thankful you are. That he is here. That he loves you. That he is who he is.
“Hear my heartbeat? Just focus on that,” he tells you and you do as he asks.
- Days later you step into the room that is now the nursery only to find him holding the little boy.
You stop to lean against the doorway, watching him stand there in old sweatpants and a grey shirt that has been washed exactly the right amount of times to be comfortable and unsightly.
“And your last name’s going to be McCoy, which is a good name, I can tell you. As soon as you’re old enough, I’m going to tell you about your grandpa, the man I got my last name from. And look,” he reaches out one hand to pick up the holo picture you’ve placed close to the crib, holding it out for the baby to see, “That’s your mom and your mama. Both in one picture. As soon as you’ve gotten your naptime, I will tell you a few things about those two.”
He carefully lays the boy down, before turning around, freezing for the tiniest moment when he sees you standing there.
“You were watching?”
“I didn’t want to interrupt your conversation,” you answer and get on your tiptoes to kiss him.
“Wasn’t a conversation,” he tell you, guiding you out of the room, “He didn’t seem very interested in what I had to say.”
“And what did you say?”
“Hear my heartbeat? Just focus on that.” He whispers in your hair.

“Well, hello.” Raze definitely is looking Henry up and down with no discretion whatsoever. He likes big furry mutants by the name of McCoy, almost universally. “You worked with my Mama once. With Obsborn. And I hear you’re really good at genetics. You take commissions?”
Tumblr media
It wasn't every day that McCoy caught someone looking at him like he was the test subject. That meant that the conversation was probably going to be interesting. And interesting amused him greatly. Especially when said party probably had little idea of his full capabilities.
McCoy slid away from his desk and studied the blue mutant. Even if McCoy knew nothing about this man, decerning his parentage was absurdly simple.
"Ah, so you're the time-traveling young man. Raisin, is it?"
Tumblr media
"Yes. I remember working with your mother. It was a cushy job with ample resources and the worst teammates I could have ever asked for. Osborn's lackluster reputation and less-than-savory goals had him asking me to be his lead scientist, because -- as you so eloquently put it -- I'm 'really good' at genetics."
At the sound of 'commission,' the gray man's ears perked.
Tumblr media
"It depends on the work. My time is very precious to me. When I am given something interesting to work on, something I can really sink my teeth into...you'll find that I am very flexible with my compensation. But if you ask me for something tedious, I may still say yes, but it will cost you."
Henry's grin widened into something far more terrifying than the bits of blood splattered on his lab coat.
"Tell me, just how attached are you to mommy dearest?"

Continued from (x): @gutrage
It's a chilling look that Logan shoots him, all primal animality and vehemence, charged and annoyed, the kind of glare that would have the students running for the hills . . . but Henry P. McCoy is, by now, as much an expert in blithe indifference to those who could kill him as he is in genetics, biophysics, electrical engineering, etcetera, etcetera.
So, off the look plinks into the alien underbrush, deflected by the eccentric genius' knowledge that Logan is merely being his cantankerous self - and the silent assurance that, if it does come down to a scrap, he can more than hold his own.
Tumblr media
"In case you needed a reminder, my exacts words were, 'don't be surprised, Logan, if you find something cute and defenceless that attaches itself to you while we're out there. If it happens on Earth as often as it does - and it happens very often - then there's no reason it shouldn't happen out there, in that final frontier.'"
His tone is one of idle amusement and merriment - in the days following Charles' death, smiles have been in very short supply indeed, and while he doubts Logan appreciates him smiling at his discomfort, well, he can't really help it.
The Wolverine simply cannot help but pick up strays. Some things are noted constants, regardless of the planet you happened to be frequenting at the time.
Tumblr media
Flicking open his translator, Hank thumbed through all the major galactic languages that he'd downloaded from the S.W.O.R.D database, wondering if he might get a ping for whatever the little tykes were speaking. Galactic Basic, no; High Skrull, more like Highly Unlikely; Debased Kree, perhaps? Shi'ar Prime, definitely not, although? Merchant-Slang Majesdanian . . . he'd leave that one running, just in case. It had come in useful before, after all.
"You may not be mama, but have you considered that you may, in fact, be papa? Not the step-papa, but the papa that stepped up, so to speak?" Hank's entirely too amused at Logan's discomfort with the beasties swarming him, even as he consults his X-PDA to cross-reference their location with the map.
Tumblr media
He's capable of multi-tasking, he can laugh and be useful at the same time.
"Besides, it may not have crossed your mind just yet, but does it not occur to you that you're fulfilling the X-Men's mission statement right now? The promotion of mutantkind, the protection of the innocent and the defenceless . . . granted, I don't know if Charles ever thought it would quite look like this." He gestured up at the incredible alien flora and fauna that surrounds them, dearly wishing he had time to conduct a full xenobiological survey and take samples - but, they were on the clock. And they needed a direction in which to head.
Tumblr media
"🎶 There's no earthly way of knowing, which direction we are going, there's no knowing where we're rowing, or which way the river's flowing, is it raining, is it snowing . . . 🎶"
Tumblr media
He clicked his fingers, pointing east.
"Our destination, Logan. Give or take fifty meters, I'd say."
