As I Darklina myslef, I have to disagree with this.

Yes, the show is pushing MalxAlina, but I don't thing they are reducing the depth of DarklingxAlina. If anything they added to the Darklina relationship by making it more equal form the start. They gave Alina agency in thier 'courtship', Aleksander's feelings are much more explicit then they were in the books, and we've gotten a real romantic arc with these two.

I understand people are mad with the early name reveal. I, too, think they could have done it better. However, I think that Aleksander giving Alina his name earlier was actually a smart choice on the part of the writers. It humanises th Darkling's character and makes the Darklina relationship more genuine. The Darkling is not a nameless man to Alina and to the audience anymore. He's a man named Aleksander. Alina doesn't fall for the figure of the Darkling, leader of Grisha, but for a man named Aleksander. And so does the audience. When Alina makes a move on him and then makes out with him on on that war room table it's Aleksander that's she persuing. Her and his feelings are cannot be so easily dismissed. She can't be called stupied or naive for going after a man without a name. It makes their relationship more real. And I love that because now that they are enemies you cannot dismiss the fact that they were once lovers. I would say that in the books thier relationship in was much more ominous, partly because Alina had no agency in it, and knew nothing about the Darkling. In the show she already knows intimate details about him (yes, for the Darkling his name is a intimate detail).

That scene form ruin and rising can still be included in the show, albeit it's going to be somehow different.

My only problem with the name reveal in the show, really is that they decided to give the name to Mal too. And I don't like it.

I think the show is just trying really hard to force Malina but they know majority of the stans ship Darklina and that’s why they’re reducing the depth of most of their interaction and moments. Even after the revelation of the darkling, they still had some beautiful moments and Alina still cared for him (I won’t take criticism) and the show just wants to erase that narrative.
