Rhyol’s opinion differs with different trees’ sap, cedars and pines make more palatable wine for example, but they think it’s mostly garbage. Sap wine isn’t for enjoying the flavor, sap wine is for PARTYING

I wonder if anyone’s tried making a sauce/stew with sap wine….. maybe that would be a tastier way to have it!

Absolutely getting in a sass fight, they’re no more of an airhead than the next amphibian and they stand by it! What they lack in self preservation they make up for in a combination of competitive pluck and an impressively competent blind panic mode. And they have no issue speaking their mind to basically anyone, even if it gets them in trouble. But they also lean on Slate’s good side because they have more confidence in Slate’s engineering than is probably warranted- but hey, this stuff is state of the art! If you think you could do better, be Slate’s guest, as they always say; and Rhyol is sure no one else actually could, so that makes it good enough for them.

Beyond Solanum (cause that’s the obvious answer), they had a fondness for Pye and Idaea and their discussions. They love Pye for her enthusiasm about blowing up the sun—Rhyol’s FAVORITE science ALWAYS has an element of thrill and risk, and it doesn’t get any more risky or thrilling than that!—and Idaea for how, while objecting the whole time, he still did his work and even shared the disappointment in the eventual failure. It was touching to see how even in major moral disagreement, the Nomai still share a common sense of pride, community, and connectedness.

Similarly to Pye, they also love Avens and Mallow for their love of explosive high power experimentation and disregard for “safety”. In exploring all the Nomai ruins and piecing together the story of the lost colony for the first time, they were drawn to the couple more out of horror; before they understood better the connections between different objects and happenings around the solar system and the progression of their story, they had only heard mention of unknown severe “consequences” that would come from overpowering the orbital probe cannon. Not knowing exactly what it was doing or just how significant the alleged consequences could be, they became quite paranoid that the exploding cannon was actually somehow the cause of the time fuckery, the extermination of the Nomai, or even the sun exploding; they dreaded learning more from Mallow and Avens with a strong feeling of “oh god what have they done”. After more of the mystery was cleared up, they could only admire them for their rebellious spirits and overenthusiasm and how they apparently had quite the reputation for it to the other Nomai. Rhyol would’ve loved to introduce Feldspar to them.

Just some silly art I drew of Mallow and Geno

Tbh, I don't know a whole lot about Geno since I only just started the game, I've just picked up things here and there from the Smash Bros community and comic dubs from Gabaleth. So, take this Geno as my interpretation of him. An AU if you will.

Geno is a 1000 year old wish guardian who doesn't know much about the current day because he's always up in the stars. He's like a 40 year old dad who doesn't know what a meme is but listens anyways and makes terrible jokes. He's quite tired but pushes it aside when he's around Mallow. They have a Father-son dynamic since his adopted Grandfather is a crazy old frog and his real dad wasn't in his life for 90% of it, neither of his parents were.

Mallow is an emotionally distraught teen (don't really know his age soooo) who tries his best to make others happy, to really no eval. He often tries to cover this up leading to him bottling emotions and making him rather sensitive in tough situations. Since he can, yk, control the weather through his emotions, he tries to stay positive so he doesn't accidentally cause a major flood.

My Thoughts on Wish 💫💜🌳🐐🫧

FUCK I’M SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG

First of all, this review is dedicated to that one Wish stan on Twitter who said I have "no media literacy" when I tried to say that Magnifico wasn’t really threatening, but wasn’t trying to start off a big fight or anything.

I hope that person is having a wonderful day, and I hope this review proves that I do actually have media literacy 🥰🥰

Now, back to the film:

I really wanted to like this movies guys. A film about the origins of the wishing star sounded amazing!

And after I saw the film TWICE in theaters, I was in love. I thought surely my opinion wouldn’t change.

But…the more I thought about the movie, the worst it got.

For example, the songs. I don’t think I need to explain to you guys why "I let you live for free and I don’t even charge you rent" and "throw caution to every warning sign" and "watch out world here I are" DO NOT WORK.

I don’t blame the songwriters for this, because I’m sure they are very talented people.

But they were clearly not the people who should have been in charge of the music.

Not to mention the fact that Julia Michaels was given TWO WEEKS to write “This Wish”….

The Characters

Asha 💜

I like Asha’s design enough, like her braids. But her personality is as bland as a scoop of vanilla ice cream (jk, vanilla ice cream is goated).

Lots of people have complained that the “adorkable” leading lady trope has worn out its welcome.

I used to disagree since those “quirky” characters were some of my favorites (Like Rapunzel, Mirabel, and Moana), but Asha has definitely reached my limit with them.

Rapunzel, Anna, Moana, and Mirabel all feel like distinct characters from each other (yeah stfu ModernGurlz), but Asha feels like an imitation of them, like the cheap Walmart version.

And she’s not really interesting either, she has a passion for art, but the film doesn’t do anything with it. In fact, nothing about her feels genuine. She feels so hollow and like she only has two personality traits: Quirky and the protagonist.

Like, during “This Wish” (which is probably the worst Disney “I want” song ever) I never felt connected with her. It just felt like, oh this is the Disney “I want” song because this is a Disney movie.

I didn’t understand what Asha wanted, “something more for us than this”? Okay…what about you? What do you want?

With all the other Disney “I want” songs, I could feel a connection and what the character wanted.

So yeah, Asha is probably the worst protagonist in the modern era of Disney. At least in terms of writing.

And while I did say I like her design, I prefer her concept arts.

King Magnifico 🫧

Chris Pine seems like he is having a blast in the recording booth, and I gotta say his performance was pretty good. But it wasn’t enough to save this character :/

So, the main problem with his character is that I can kinda agree with him on the whole wishes thing. But, I also barely found him threatening.

The most threatening things he does in this movie is crush a bunch of balls (that’s what she said) that make people feel sad and chain everyone to the ground.

Not only that, Magnifico’s use of his magic is SO LAME! Another major reason I was never intimated by him is because he never did anything really scary or threatening with his magic, all he could do was create giant hands and chain people up. Like…ok? Is that all you got? Really? 😑

Also, I don’t think I need to tell you that his villain song SUCKS ASS. You know it, everyone knows it. I’m not getting into it. Go listen to a real villain song like "Hellfire" or “Friends on the other side" instead.

As for the other characters, I don’t have much to say about them unlike Asha and Magnifico.

Star ⭐️

The Star was really really cute, even tho they were just a Luma/marketable plushie. And also REALLY reminds me of a squish mallow, am I the only one who sees that?

I should definitely mention how he was originally gonna be a StarBoy, but we’ll get to that later don’t you worry. That is a VERY important element in our discussion.

The Other Characters This Movie Has

Amaya is so BORING! She barely has a character outside of being the queen and Magnifico’s wife, she was just…there. You could remove her from the movie with very little tweaking and nothing would change.

I would’ve preferred it if she was also a villain like Magnifico, which WAS originally in the script. But like StarBoy, that is something we will get to later.

The Teens are fine, but really forgettable. I like how they are all based off the Seven Dwarves, that’s cute. But it feels like they didn’t have any character outside of that.

Yeah, Dahlia is Asha’s bestie, but there wasn’t enough scenes between them to show me their dynamic to make me feel like their friendship was genuine.

Simon ended up snitching out on Asha and betraying the Teens in the middle, but I literally couldn’t have cared less because what do we know about this guy other than he’s sleepy and gave his wish to Magnifico?

As for the other Teens, just like Amaya, they could’ve been removed from the script and barely anything would change. The grumpy one had some sassy moments, and he’s voiced by Harvey Guillén (Perrito’s VA) so that’s something I guess. The shy one had this one gag that had comedic potential, but wasn’t really expanded.

And as for the other Teens…uh…I can’t remember a single thing they did honestly.

And then there’s Valentino…fuck that goat man. 😑 I love Alan Tudyk and his roles in other (better) Disney movies, but yeah Valentino is definitely my least favorite role he’s ever done.

All of his jokes were unfunny, and were mostly butt jokes. Which is probably my least favorite form of comedy ever that I cannot stand for the life of me.

Speaking of which, this movie just was not funny. None of the jokes made me laugh or chuckle or even smile.

Raya and the Last Dragon is a Disney movie that I really don’t like, but there were some jokes that got a chuckle or smile out of me. Wish didn’t even have ONE good joke.

Uhh…Asha’s grandpa was build up as someone important but he just peaces out in the middle of the movie with Asha’s mom, who did not do a single thing other than a ball getting shattered making her sad.

And that’s all the characters in this movie.

Legacy Nods, why they do not work

Alright, what else is there to talk about?

Maybe the endless amount of Disney references? I get it’s the 100th anniversary film and all and Disney has had Hidden Gems like that in their films. But the difference is the ones in previous films were subtle and hidden in the background, and it would probably take you a rewatch to see it.

But in Wish? They all feel shoved down your throat. It’s like: “HEY REMEMBER THIS MOVIE??" “REMEMBER THAT??” “DON’T YOU WANNA WATCH THAT MOVIE???” It’s so exhausting.

When I heard the movie was gonna have “legacy nods” as they liked to call it, I was excited and thought it would be so much fun to point them all out and to pay closer attention to the background.

But instead every nod was thrown at my face and was heavily obvious. Disappointing 😔

The Animation

Let’s get to the animation now. It’s probably (one of) the most discussed things about this movie, especially when the teaser first dropped last year.

Lots of people were complaining it looks like a Disney Junior show or Ai and said it looks unfinished. Even one of my best friends who was just as excited for this movie as I was admitted it looked weird.

At first, I loved this art style and thought it was beautiful. And I was determined it would look even more beautiful on the big screen.

And now? I…actually still like it. I definitely don’t hate it, and thinks it gets some getting used to. I think it’s actually kinda pretty.

Apparently it’s supposed to be watercolor and combined with 2D animation, which is neat.

But compared to the films like the Spider Verse films or Puss In Boots 2, yeah it’s not the best.

I personally would’ve preferred it if the film was in 2D, Disney’s 100th anniversary would’ve been a PERFECT time to return 2D animation! But, nope 😒

Yeah it’s bad, but…

I know I’m making it seem like I hate this movie, but I really don’t. I’m disappointed in it more than anything.

If anything, I’m thankful this movie was still made.

Why?

Well, easy.

It allowed many people to be able to tell their own version of the story.

I’m sure we’ve all heard of StarBoy and the cut Evil Amaya.

And yeah, these concepts could’ve made this movie 1000x better.

But because of these concepts, so many amazing people have been given the opportunity to rewrite the movie and give amazing stories.

I have read so many wonderful Wish rewrites, which are so much better than the film.

At the end of the today, Wish is a bad movie.

But, I’m glad it exists.

Without it, we wouldn’t have gotten so many amazing stories.

I’m gonna give Wish a 4/10, still bad, but I appreciate its existence for the rewrites alone.

Let’s do the fooka-fooka!

I finally did it! I made my Mallow plush! I didn’t have a pattern but i managed to do it! It was sorta-kinda kitbashed together from other patterns, but actually after some trial and error, there was only one part that was taken semi-directly from an existing pattern, and even that had some pretty significant mods before I was done, so I kinda made it myself? Kinda. Not entirely I guess. Shoulders of giants, maybe. But I basically never crochet freehand at all, so this is huge for me!

so story time! When I was in fourth grade, one day I decided that I Wanted To Do A Sewing Project. I had no plan, no meaningful experience, no pattern, and not really enough supervision to actually make anything come together. I made some sock dolls of Mallow and Geno (SMRPG had come out a year or so prior, and I was still obsessed with it… some things never change, I suppose!) by just stuffing old socks with polyfill, putting enough stitches in them to make them slightly shaped, daubing them inexpertly with fabric paint, and tacking on a few bits of felt here and there for details. This is exactly what you’d expect from an inexperienced 9-year-old with unmedicated ADHD, of course! They were the UGLIEST things you’d ever seen. Special in the way that all sincere handmade crafts are special, but hooooo boy they were ugly buggers, lol. I wish I had some pics of them… I hung into them for a couple decades but they were lost in a flood a few years ago. Ah well.

anyway, I started crocheting almost exactly one year ago, and my goal when I started was to make Nice versions of Mallow and Geno. I eventually found a pattern for Geno (though it took some drama and a lot of searching), but I COULD NOT find a pattern for Mallow! I even had a couple Fiverr artists bail on me as I tried to pay them to make it (I’ve had great luck in Fiverr for cross-stitch patterns, guitar tabs, and general art, but I’ve had awful luck with it for crochet patterns), and so I eventually just decided I would make my own. Or at least make my own plush if not my own pattern. I wrote down what I was doing for all the paired parts (boots, arms, cheeks) to make them consistent, but maybe not the rest of it. Perhaps I’ll be able to write it down enough to help the next person who wants a Mallow plush? Maybe?

anyway I’m so proud of the fact that I finally made my Geno and my Mallow! He’s super squishy and soft, and I used special alpaca yarn for his body so he’s just extra cuddly. Size 3 yarn, size C hook, except for the belt buckle, which was six-strand embroidery floss (the whole six strands, not just one) on a size 10 hook (1.10 mm, I think? Whatever size 10 is).

Mallow Kingdom was founded by Queen Auburngem After she felt she was meant for something greater. Her eloquent speaking skills allowed her to easily gather cats together to start her new kingdom.

Mallow Kingdom is located inside a large crystal cave; The cats of Mallow Kingdom use these crystals to adorn their pelt, both as decorations and to show their status in the kingdom.

The founder of Mallow Kingdom, and the current queen. she is ambitious, creative and snobbish; she left her previous Kingdom to begin her own when she decided she was meant for something greater. the idea of wearing crystals upon their pelts was her idea, and she also created the collar that she wears and will pass down to her heir. She is clever and an eloquent speaker; she used this to her advantage to gather cats from her travels to create her new kingdom. She is also her house head.

Bramblesplash:

Bramblesplash is Queen Auburngems mate, making her royalty. She's loving and loves to tell stories to anyone who will listen, especially the kits. she's often found looking after the heirs, even though the consort is supposed to take care of that. she enjoys to read as well as telling stories, and is creative, just like her wife. she keeps a satchel with her to collect anything interesting she comes across, like crystals, rocks, bones, sticks or any other interesting item she finds.

Graykit:

Graykit is Queen Auburnstar and Bramblesplash's daughter, and one of Queen Auburnstar's heirs. She looks up to Bramblesplash a lot, and loves to listen to her stories. She's impulsive and tries to follow in her parents footsteps by creating art pieces around the walls of their home.

These guys are too young for me to have figured out their personality but! the rest of her kits, born recently :)

this links to royalty and the crystals they use to portray their status. the blue background of the sigil links to the families tendency to be smart and use their heads rather than their claws.

Foggytuft:

technically the consort but shes more of a companion to Queen Auburnstar; she advises her in certain decisions and takes on a babysitter role to her heirs, with help from Queen Auburnstar's mate, Bramblesplash. She has a loving personality and loves to teach Auburnstar's heirs.

Plumenewt:

Foggytuft's mate; They are a retired soldier and despite being retired can still often be found training with the other soldiers, or, telling them what to do. They're very set in their beliefs and think that their way to do anything is the right way, and will make sure you know that.

Jaggedrun:

jaggedrun is a really tired single dad to his two kids (hopefern and flareswipe) and is also trying to manage a whole town at the same time. poor guy needs a break. His mate (unknown) died not long after their kits were born, and he's had to manage everything by himself ever since. he loves his kits but with looking after them and his town, hes tired!!!

Hopefern and Flareswipe:

Hopefern (left) and Flareswipe (right) theyre sisters and are the same age, however hopefern had her warrior ceremony first due to excelling at every task. Theyre inseperable and are both confident; if you see one without the other something is seriously wrong and you should call for help immediately. Hopefern enjoys to paint, and flareswipe enjoys sewing plushies; Flareswipe almost always has her mouse plushie her mother made for her before she died with her.

the black background links to strength and confidence. the yellow claw marks link to their strength and optimism, as well as their ability to overcome their weaknesses.

Bearspeckle:

hes ambitious, bloodthirsty and a little paranoid. He enjoys fighting and training his soldiers and, although he pretends he doesnt, enjoys collecting herbs and flowers for his wife, Siltthud. He worries a lot about their kingdom and worries that they wont have enough experienced soldiers should war break out, although all of HIS soldiers are incredibly strong and powerful of course.. its the other house's soldiers that he has to worry about. totally.

Siltthud:

Siltthud, bearspeckles mate; She collects flowers, herbs and crystals, which, when shes not busy with her job as doctor, she turns into paint and dyes that she sells to the other cats in the kindgom as a side job. she also dabbles in making and dyeing clothes when she has the time. Shes incredibly charismatic and well liked by the cats in the kingdom, which she uses to her advantage when shes working in her shop.

Ash - Still traveling the world, on a journey to become a Pokemon Master, cuz ofc he is. He's changed his approach and focuses more on learning about Pokemon, but will still never say no to a good battle. Fights hard to stay World Champion. Occasionally still works for Cerise

Misty - She's still the leader of the Cerulean City Gym but she's slowly working up her way to becoming a Kanto Elite Four Member

Brock - Pokemon Doctor! Has been all over the place helping out at different Pokemon Centers over the years

Gary - He's a Pokemon Professor! Well known for all kinds of insane discoveries. He works under his Grandpa and eventually takes over the Lab. Still has a rivalry with Goh.

Tracey - He's Garys assistant now, make sthe lab very chaotic. Started taking art commissions on the side

May - Well known Top Coordinator who has won multiple Grand Festivals! But she still comepetes in contests and travels with the hoen coordinator gang

Max - Gymleader, he's taken over the Petalburg City gym! Dunno what his type though is, he can mix em if he wants to

Dawn - Also a well known Top Coordinator with multiple wins, and she still occasionally competes in contests. I like the idea of her getting into fashion and designing.

Paul - Either a Gym Leader or an Elite Four member, maybe even Sinnoh Champion, but definitely still battles

Iris - Contiunes to be Unovas champion, trying to snatch Ashs world champ title and learning about dragon types on the way

Cilan - S class connoisseur! Still likes traveling but also stays in Striaton a lot to help out in the café, though he doesn't act as gym leader anymore

Serena - Reining Kalos Queen and Pokevision influencer! Also her and Lisia are a pop star duo

Clemont - Not a gym leader anymore either, he's focused more on his inventions and becomes pretty well known for it

Bonnie - New Lumiose Gym Leader! I like to think she tried out both gym battles and showcases when she was old enough to go on her own journey, but ended up being drawn towards batrling a lot more. I also like the idea of her beconing Kalos champion eventually

Mallow - Pretty much took over Ainas Kitchen and started branding out their name to other Alola Islands

Lana - I kinda like the idea of her getting interested in acting after the gig she and the other sm girls had, still fishes with her dad for fun

Kiawe - Akala Islands newest Kahuna! Contributes to keeping the Alola league tournament alive as well. He doesn't have much time to help with the farm anymore but still delivers milk every morning

Sophocles - Works at Pokemon NASA, far off from going to space but he'll get there

Lillie - I am very attached to Lillie being a teacher at the Pokemon school, but I also like the idea of her writing books. Either way she does something booksmart tm

Gladion - Works at the AF, got sucked into the family buisness and researching UBs after Lillie the Nihilego

Goh - Cerises assistant still working for his own Professor title and more than mildly upset at the fact Gary managed to get there before him, he specialices researching species that were discovered more recently and has an always increasing of his own Pokemon to look after

Koharu - Since she doesn't have a canon long term goal, her story line was moreso about figuring out what she wants to do, that kind of makes her a catch all character. I can see her do anything really she works with whatever. Ik she helps out her dad as a research fellow at the end of the series and I also like her getting more into contests but I don't really think she does either of those forever? I like the idea of her doing photography, it's artistic in the opposite direction of what her mom does

Saerii always looks at the positives and stays mindful of her actions.. Do good and good will come.. be kind, but be ready. She lives by these words and tries to spread that to others around her. Even if they may not agree, she wishes good onto most people.

Cavern life was.. a bit of a struggle, being a pale blood in Lustrous' caverns is a coin flip.. perhaps she was lucky that she left unscathed for the most part.

Her grubtube career is something new for her, posting DIYS + vlogs + free yoga courses- She really doesn't know what to do with all the newfound attention!

- Saerii owns two ferrets, noodle and bean.

- She always has fresh flowers from the farmers market, Mallows flowers always seem to last the longest.. So she keeps thrm around and uses the left overs to make bath salts

- A sucker for a good hand pie.. prefers savory over sweet

- Has a small garden where she grows veggies and berries.

- Often goes thrifting and purchases second hand! Loves antiques!

- Has a small free community library box outside her home

- Occasionally babysits her neighbors kids/wigglers!
