“kinda seems unfair you want me to pick one,” she retorts. she knows it’s childish and not even that great of a comeback, but he’s really under her skin. without giving him a verbal answer, she grabs a fistful of his shirt and tugs him towards her so she can kiss him.

“okay, so i know it’s a little cheesy and it actually got a little fucked up on the journey here because i hit a pothole, but i made this for you for valentine’s day.” she sets the cake carrier on the counter and takes off the lid to reveal a heart shaped cake that’s mostly okay, but the frosting has definitely seen better days.

"She's made it abundantly clear that she would literally rather die than work for me. She really seems to think the work is beneath her. If she lives, I think she might turn out quite a bit like your mother." If she lived and Alexi didn't break her first. But she certainly seemed to have inherited Charlotte's judgement attitude.

leo:

it’s only been a few hours since he left, but she already misses him. it’s like a dull ache that never goes away when they’re apart. she always thinks she’ll get used to it, but she never does. and it’s always worst right after he leaves. she checks her phone, sees that she has something resembling a made it home text, and gives the screen a sort of sad, small smile. 

text: happy you’re home, sad you’re not still here. already missing you :(

alexi:

at the christmas party at aspen’s place, there’s always something going on, and usually that something is loud and obnoxious and drunk and amazing. which is why she’s surprised she manages to notice the quiet moment between alexi and charlotte under the mistletoe. she looks away, letting them have their moment, but she can tell that alexi’s finally relaxing again and it makes her happy. after the party, when everyone’s at their own places or tucked away safely in their own little corner of aspen’s apartment, she texts him. 

text: you seemed happy tonight. i’m glad we’ve finally got you back. 

jasper:

the semester is almost over, but her annoyances seem to just be beginning. it seems like her professors all got together to decide final projects and papers are due on the same two or three days. it’s exhausting. and she needs a change of scenery and maybe to bitch a little bit and also feel less alone in her misery. she pulls out her phone and sends the text before packing her bag to head over. 

text: i need a break. coffee shop for a bitch/study session in twenty? 

zach:

she knows it’s weird that they’re friends for leo and it’s probably weird that she’s dating leo for zach, but she figures the two of them will come to terms on their own time. it’s not like they’ve given her some ultimatum or anything and so she does her best to keep her socializing between the two separate. which is why when she sees a flyer about a new exhibit that might be interesting, she knows to only text zach a picture of the flyer. 

text: would you want to go to this? it seems fun and i miss your gorgeous face 

stevie:

she’s not used to vi being in a relationship, much less being this excited over someone, but it’s really sweet. and vi’s picked a great girl to give the honor to. she wants to make sure stevie feels included, that she knows she’s welcome and the group likes her, especially when she knows that a few them can come off a bit…standoffish at first. so she’s making an effort to befriend her. 

text: not sure if vi told you, but there’s gonna be a small party at aspen’s this weekend for my birthday and i hope you can come, i just wanted to make sure you knew you had your own invite :)

it’s not often she finds herself saying things like that, but every so often the impulse strikes. and alexi somehow always manages to say the perfect thing to make her feel full of love and just the slightest bit irritated about it. she leans in and presses a gentle kiss to his lips.

“i don’t think anyone else could either, not with the way you immediately disagreed with me,” she teases, running a hand through his hair. “at least we both agree on the soulmate bit. otherwise i might have to break out the knife you got me for christmas all those years ago to test your theory.”

“A pain in my ass, mostly.” She smiled, the words laced with affection. “We had an interesting first meeting and everything just kind of snowballed from there. Can’t say I ever imagined this is where we’d be now but I don’t regret it. I also didn’t think I’d ever trust him as much as I do, but again, here we fucking are, years and several kids later. I can’t imagine my life without Alexi in it.”
