I just had one of the best weekends ever. This year's Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival was a total blast. Money well spent! We had our tickets way back October and we only got it for like 3,600 pesos. The last phase of tickets released was already 6,400 pesos, good thing we got the early bird tickets! Ever since college, my friend, Clare has already been mentioning this festival and I've been seeing it on Facebook as well. But since we were still students at the time, we couldn't afford it. Thanks to my mom for lending me her credit card though and for letting me pay her on an installment basis. Hahaha.
It was a 3-day festival from March 10-12. We left Manila on Friday morning at around 7am and arrived Puerto Galera by 11am. We rode a bus from Kamias (JAM liner) going to Batangas Pier. And from there we took a boat going to Sabang Port. From the port we rode a tricycle going to the bayan and then the habal (motorbike) from bayan to the hostel. I already booked a hostel via airbnb 2 months ago and guess what? It only costed us 2,740 pesos for the whole stay. We were 4 and we only paid 685 each! It was my 2nd time to ride a habal and it was so much fun. It was the only transportation available from the bayan going to our hostel.
Day 1 was awesome. My top 3 favorite artists who played were Curtismith, Apartel, and Alfredo Rodriguez Trio. People were so friendly especially the foreigners. They were the life of that festival. They love small talks and starting conversations. They were also the ones who encourage and like invite people to come and dance with them. We actually met a few people. There was Raj who's from Europe and Jake from Miami. We danced and had a great time with people we don't really know. I just love how you can dance and look stupid and nobody will even care or judge you because they're too busy themselves having a great time. The first day finished early, we went home at around 1am. I just hated the fact that even though Malasimbo provided jeepneys, you still have to pay 150 and an extra 50 if you stay beyond 1am.
We woke up a little early the next day. Tella was not with us during the first day and so we had to fetch her at the bayan. We still went early to the festivaleven though the music starts at 4pm. We roamed around and took pictures. Like a lot. Hahaha. My day 2 favorites were Brass pas pas pas pas, Jeck Pilpil and Peacepipe, and Jordan Rakei. Even though it was cold because we were in a mountain and my feet were getting tired my friends and I still had a really really great time. Enjoying every bit of it and dancing to the beat. It was so nice to hear and discover new artists. Day 2 ended at 4:30am but we decided to go home around 3am. It was so tiring yet fun.
On the third day we already woke up at around 11am. My body was aching but I couldn't care less because I was having a really really great time with my friends. We wen't to the festival grounds around 5pm already. I was kinda sad because it was the last day already. I didn't wanna go back to Manila yet and face reality aka work. The artists on the last day was so phenomenal! Crwn, Asch, Skarm, RH Xanders, June Marieezy, Tennyson and Microphone Mechanics were awesome! I actually like all the artists that played that night. I also got to try silent disco where there's a dj and you all have individual headphones. It looks kind of weird and funny if you're not wearing one because you see this people dancing and yet you are hearing no music. But if you are wearing one you'll really want to dance and groove.
We wanted to go to the beach the next day before we head back to Manila so we decided to go home at around 1:30. During our last day at Puerto Galera we decided to go to white beach. We stayed their for only 4 hours. The sun was scorching. I really didn't swim much. We didn't really get to explore Puerto Galera that much but were planning to go back just to visit the falls and go swimming. This was the most social I have ever been. Even in our hostel we were able to talk to some of the guests and when they visit Manila we'll prolly catch up or something. We actually met another person at the festival. Mark went to the festival alone because his friends ditched him. We met him at Day 2 and he was with us until we left Puerto Galera. He was really nice to us.
This is why I love to travel and go to festivals. You get to meet new people, gain new friends and experiences. I have a lot of first experiences again. This is such a fun and memorable trip. Definitely one for the books! It's already Malasimbo's year 7 and I hope they will still have this event next year.

Taking a break and enjoying an eclectic mix of local and international music at the Malasimbo Festival this weekend with @seaprincess888 @jojoongsiako and Em. Last night's highlights include the silent disco featuring three DJs, live performances of local band Apartel of Ely Buendia and Jay Ortega and Afro-Cuban jazz pianist Alfredo Rodriguez (who is apparently Quincy Jones' protégé). Artworks by Leeroy New, Olivia d'Aboville, Agnes Arellano, Troy Silvestre are spread around the terraced amphitheater. All of the proceeds will go to the d'Aboville Foundation's mangrove seedling project and its community program with the Mangyans, the indigenous tribe of Mindoro. I ❤ Malasimbo! #malasimbo2017 #musicfestival #philippines🇵🇭 (at Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival)

Gotta feed your soul with some good music. Recently discovered new artist because of Malasimbo and Soundcloud. You guys should definitely listen to these artists and their songs because it is the bomb! Also, I'm starting to be a fan of electronic music.

Ain't Coming Back – No Rome
Soully, Yours – Curtismith
For Two – Asch
Date Night – Kidthrones

Most of the artists can be found on soundcloud. They do have a few songs on spotify though. You can check out my playlist on spotify entitled “Malasimbo 2017 artists”. Will still add more artists and music to it. Enjoy! :-)
