since i've been gone:
watched atla live action. hate the tell don't show writing style. got mad every time i saw ian ousley on screen. suki and jet ate that up tho i'm literally SO pan. zuko's flashbacks made me cry. him leading the division that he saved in finding the avatar is a nice touch. love how secret tunnel and two lovers/omashu is gay now
am starting a jade fire gold by june cl tan reread because holy fuck i'm in zutara feels rn
read if you could see the sun by ann liang. made me cry shake throw up. obsessed with her writing and need her book to hurry up and appear in aus
read the first shatter me book since i enjoyed the first 6 chapters on google. BIG mistake. how did simultaneously nothing happen in that book while everything happen at the same time?? why do people hate adam and love warner??? why is every man on the planet obsessed with juliette??? however the last two chapters gave xmen vibes so unfortunately i will be reading the rest of the series at some point in time
i became OBSESSED with the maleficent movies for an entire fortnight. so much so i thrifted a grunge fairycore skirt with NOTHING to style it with. can't wait for maleficent 3!!!!
follow up to maleficent, i ended up rewatching all of descendants. all i'm gonna say is mal did nothing wrong. ben is insanely mid. i think that evie's backstory is a lot darker than let on by the disney channel rating but i'll make a separate post about my headcanons for her. saw the teaser for the 4th movie. rip to cameron
i watched the marvels FINALLY. i ADORED kamala as always even with all the shitty writing changes to her backstory, iman slays as always. i screamed cried and threw up when i saw the og beast from xmen and professor x mention!!! seeing carol from the kree's perspective was also actually REALLY interesting. the family angst between monica and carol also made me emotional. seeing kamala become disillusioned with her hero was also very civil war 2 coded and i'd LOVE to see that fleshed out more. i'm interested to see whether kamala is trying to form the young avengers (which she was never a member of and predates her by 10 years), champions or secret warriors (both of which kate was never a member of if i remember correctly)
because of xmen crumbs i unfortunately rewatched about half of the gifted s1 for those feels
i now know 4 programming languages and am living out my own little cress darnel life
watched a few episodes of love between fairy and demon, thought i didn't like cdramas, gave an episode of who rules the world and actually?? i might be into it. i'll see in a few episodes time (IF i have time)

It's that time again! Tell me about some of your favorite blogs, why they are your favorite, and tag them to fill the dashboard with positivity and love!
a selection of some of my faves in no particular order, of course šŸ’Œ
@heroesbyler ā€” my wife, my dearest, and my mike. one of my first friends in this fandom and someone that i trust so much i'd give her my social security number if she asked. stav is super intelligent (in so many ways), kind, funny, thoughtful, brave, and observant. her analyses punch me in the tit and kill me dead. she speaks clearly and with conviction. she stays true to her beliefs and doesn't say or do things just to appease the masses, which is, for whatever reason, a rarity in this fandom. a lovely person inside and out, really and trulyā€”her kindness and empathy blows me away, and makes my heart feel all fuzzy. my mom's a big fan based on what i've told her dfjdshb. a great blog to follow if you want to take a deeper look at the characters on our screens, not just will and mike, and how all of the themes, messages, and journeys in this show reinforce each other. also if you like to laugh. :')
@miwism ā€” mal is the most creative person i've had the honor of meeting in this fandom. super kind, super funny, and super inventive. one of the very few people that have managed to make me laugh out loudā€”and not just once, but repeatedly. so many posts that i'll randomly remember months later and bust out into giggles over. best fics, best art, best posts, best ideas, and best additions to your posts, too. seriously, mal, i've secretly wondered if you've ever done improv before because your ability to take an idea and expand on it is just that great. i love them, i want to hug them, and if they asked me to drop everything on a thursday to go to publix with them, i would. idec if it'd take me hours to get there, i Would and it'd be worth it. šŸ’š
@wiseatom ā€” just thinking about her fics makes me tear up on the spot. i've cried after reading her work multiple times, even on rereads, because a) they were so good that i felt devastated that it was over, and b) i would never experience that magical First Time Reading feeling again. thea's just overall talented out the fucking wazooā€”like, it's actually insane. she's a talented writer, a talented artist, a true creative, so eloquent, so charming, and such a delight. i could never meet her irl and keep my composure because i would just be on my fan behavior without a way to turn it off. she'd try to talk to me and i'd just be staring at her dreamily like this: šŸ˜šŸ„¹šŸ˜ŠšŸ„°šŸ’•.
@sayyourprayers ā€” if nobody got me, i know they got me. šŸ«‚ even when i think i'm being sneaky, they still know exactly what i'm talking about, which i am choosing to believe is a part of our superior warriors bond as well as them being very smart, and not just me being as easy to read as a toddler book. they're very funny and very straightforward. no bullshit whatsoever. i always read their tags and replies, and find them to be really insightful and witty. they're another individual that has their own beliefs and interpretations and doesn't change them based on what's currently popular or not. i like that, because i personally hate when shit starts sounding like an echo chamber. overall, i just really love their blog! i always, always tune in to see what they have to say and i find myself smiling whenever i see them in my notes.
@googoogagaeyes ā€” doozy's another real one. she describes herself in her intro post as a lover and a hater and i couldn't agree more (in the best way possible, of course). i think she has a very text-focused and holistic way of tackling the show: she talks about the good, the bad, and the neutral, which i find to be refreshing and desperately needed. i always read everything she writes, whether it's in the tags or in the post itself, and either learn something, laugh, or, as is usually the case, do both. speaking of which, her analyses are always to the point and written in such a way that the reader feels respected. she doesn't drone on or fluff it up, which i appreciate. super eloquent, intelligent, and funny. very much a necessary follow if you enjoy this show and excellent commentary tbh.
@alastyearonearth ā€” alfreddddd āœ‹šŸ„ŗ (<- me putting my hand on the screen like the wives of soldiers at war do in dramatic movies)....... oh, alfred. if there's anyone i'm normal about, it's him šŸ‘ (lies) (biggest lie i've ever told in my life actually) (my pants are currently on fire right now) (šŸš’šŸ§ÆšŸ‘Øā€šŸš’ <- they're here to put me out). i feel like my feelings for him and his blog can be summed up by the fact that when i realized we both went on vacation at around the same time, i was ecstatic because that meant i wouldn't miss his posts. bdfhjbsdkj. he's one of the biggest brains and most generally knowledgeable people here, and it rocks my world every time he says anything. he has an appreciation for canon and the real people whose stories are represented within it that this fandom sorely, and ironically, lacks. also, while i'm on my fan behavior right now, allow me to admit that i would go through his blog sometimes for months before i finally put on my big kid pants and followed him. i'm very much not beating the parasocial allegations and tbh i think it's understandable bc Hello !!!! look at him!!!! (gesticulates wildly in his and his posts' direction). 10/10 would ruin my sleep schedule for him, submit myself to the torture of a 24hr flight for him, go on a museum marathon together, and slather myself in superglue right before hugging him so that we're stuck together forever afterward. necessary follow for anyone that likes to not get pissed off when they log on and enjoys canon, esp will. alfred please can we hang out please alfred whenever you're free please if you'd like to hang out can we please hang out when you are free pleā€”
@motherthroat ā€” you know that andrew garfield "(you didn't know me at thirteen) i really wish i had" quote? it applies here, because i so wish i'd met him last summer. liking canon will, mike, and byler used to be so lonely and frustrating, but now it isn't anymore and that's largely because of him. if you haven't caught on by now, i like following people that are very frank, and mori's no different. he's not afraid to be bold either. i love his art, his AUs, and his takes. he's funny, treats you the way you treat him, and has a great eye for aesthetics. well. a great eye in general, i think. not to get #deep (or repetitive), but i think he sees more than he lets on, and it really comes out in his art, his headcanons, his interpretations, and the way that he speaks to people. he remembers things and really ponders them. there's a kind of carefulness there that i admire as someone with as much grace as a bull in a china shop. just a cool cat, really.
@cosmobrain00 ā€” MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAX! (screamed the same way that will screamed for mike on halloween night). they're literally so talented that it's not even funny anymore. like, their writing is next level and the fact that we can read it for free (wtf!!!!) feels like a crime. their art is so pleasing to look at and i love their style so much. their thoughts on this show and these characters are superb, too. so passionate, so kind, and so lovingā€”and it shows in everything they do. it's always a good time whenever they decide to share their two cents and spit some divine wisdom on us plebs, so i definitely recommend everyone check them and their content out!
@drangues ā€” arush is literally [starts snarling and hissing and snapping and howling at the moon and other cuteness aggression-related things]. sorry, i meant to say he's so bhjfbkdsjhfbdks grrrrrrrr bark bark bark awooooooooo. just unbelievable. unreal. the blueprint. he's my cousin and my friend and my son and my stinkie squishie and also my greatest enemy and bully (he's only consented to two of these, but they're still true). seriously... arush is SO funny. his headcanons are wonderful and #real, his artwork is insanely good and creative and colorful, he's so sweet and silly, and thoughtful and merciful, too. just !!!!!! squishing his face in all ways except physical right now. if you're not following arush drangues then you deserve to get sent straight to the scorpion pit, i feel.
@givehimthemedicine ā€” effortlessly hilarious, kind, bright, and oh so talented in a variety of ways, both creatively and intellectually. and they have the nerve to make it look easy!! like wtf!!! they're also the most likely to drop the most insane observations ever and act like they didn't just change the trajectory of your life forever. pure insanity, i say. they're my favorite blog outside of the byIer bubble and their el's first haunted house post is easily in my top three and i still giggle over it.
@mikeandwillel ā€” when sandy speaks, i listen and take notes. simple as that. a true mike understander and knower. she's posted wonderful analyses on many topics, all of which are super concise, text-based, and show a thorough understanding of storytelling. i love hearing her thoughts on this show and her interpretation of things. i'm especially excited to see what she thinks once we start getting s5 crumbs! oh, and she also posts great edits! :D
@aemiron-main ā€” if loving em is wrong, then i don't wanna be right. if it becomes illegal tomorrow, then call me el because my ass is going to jail asap. he's one of the kindest, funniest, most genuine people on this website. he's always open to discuss things, look at them from a different angle, and share his knowledge. i can't even say that he treats people the way they treat him, because he treats them a lot better. if anything, he's extremely merciful and forgiving lol. he has a wealth of knowledge on a multitude of subjects, an extremely keen eye, and seemingly endless creativity / an open mind. literally a modern day sherlock, but much cooler. also very resilient and tough. and an outstanding artist, too! (what can't he do, sheeeesh!). he's written analyses on what feels like everything about the show at this point, so i'd definitely recommend going through those if you haven't already.

What are your honest thoughts on Lonnie+Family?
Sorry for the wait, but I wanted to finish Lonnie's warrior sword so I will probably be focused on that
Anyways onto my answer...
I was liken 14-15 ish when I watched the first two films and I really liked her and I still do too but now I kinda grew up and had a chance to look into her character more and realised she wasn't really well written.
What is most upsetting for me is she could be a key point at any time in the movies but also in the books. But no piece of media in this franchise took that opportunity. Like she is there, yeah and she has some lines and stuff but nothing more. Shes in the back like literally any ak. Except for Ben and audrey. And we see audrey as a big character only in the last film.
I've seen people say that the movies especially are really mal centric and I agree, majority of the characters are just there.
Now I dont remember much about Lonnie in the books. It's been a while and I'm planning to reread them but I doubt she had any significant scenes for herself.
In Lonnie's warrior sword, which I literally just finished so it might be a bit too detailed,
First we had a memory with mulan, and I was so happy but that was the end of it. Now I think living up to the name of Mulan AND SHANG is a great plot point for her and her character but they couldn't do it well. Lost opportunity... but we have Mulan's name being mentioned at couple more places which all serve the 'living up to the name' and if the book was a bit longer they could explore it a bit better.
There is the matter of Li Shang. The matter is he is not there. Everyone ignored the man like they ignored Lonnie in the third movie. I would love to see some father-daughter bonding and we WERE ROBBED. so if anyone has any fic recommendations about Lonnie and Shang I would love that. Anyways, Shang in Lonnie's Warrior Sword was mentioned one (1) time.
"...sword fighting with her mother in the gardens, running laps around the palace with her father..."
That's it. And although I love the image of little Lonnie trying to keep up with her father while Shang purposely slows down for her is incredibly adorable, how would anyone think this would be enough to feed the fandom
Shang Jr is a whole other thing. Again I would love to see a relationship between Lonnie and Shang jr. And I also would like to see how filling up the name of Mulan AND SHANG would affect him. Because it would affect him as much as Lonnie.
Then there is the name situation. Firstly, I am not familiar with Chinese culture and I dont have anyone I can ask beside the internet so let me know if I need to include/exclude and/or change anything.
From what I've understood from the fandom, naming your child after yourself is very disrespectful so that is an issue. Honestly even if they were not gonna look into his name, all they needed to do was to search for some Chinese names and meanings. Like I could do that (and I am planning to cause there is no way I'm using Lil' Shang as a name in my version of descendants. Same goes with Lonnie. I did started to research about that but like Lonnie? Why? Naming with the same initials as your parent is a thing in the universe but by that logic they were supposed to do a name with m for mulan or s for shang, why did they go for L (I am assuming L is for Li but still) So they are nicknames given to them by Auradon and Sherwood Academy(was that where he was, I don't really remember)
For once I want Lonnie and Shang Jr (I am intentionally not calling him Lil' Shang cuz honestly between the two Shang Jr is not as disturbing to me as Lil' Shang) to be sassy. And that 100% came from grandma Fa. You know Mulan's grandmother. I want that woman to teach her great grand children things she wasn't supposed to. Like and she words and how to trick mushu or something.
Another point is (I've seen someone talk about it, I'll credit them if I can find it) the situation with Yi-Min. They grew up together with Lonnie and her cousins. Like Mulan saved China with these man of course their children are best friends. Also I love that she also competes in the Auradon warrior thing.
One more thing, I know it's already too long and I didnt have my fixation on Mulan and Mulan 2 yet so Lonnie and family are not people I've given much thought about but still....
We knew King beast had like all magical and non magical stuff collected in the museum but why? Like why would you disarm MULTIPLE KINGDOMS. I hate that man.
Also, in Lonnie's Warrior sword it says "... There it(Shan Yu's sword) could be watched over by the Imperial Council, who oversaw all official matters in the Imperial City, until Lonnie was old enough to inherit it." Why? Why does Lonnie inherit a council. Okay I know her parents saved China but why does Lonnie inherit a council. (Do I need to rewatch the mulan movies? probably)
Anyway... with the addition of the All-Knowing-One and her potential is also being lost... I will finish my rant here.
I hope I answered your question and I am sorry if it's too long

My thoughts on the s2 soundtrack
SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE GRISHAVERSE BOOKS BELOW!!
1. On the run: definitely alina mal in some dramatic chase scene in ep 1
2. Market chase: Mal (and possibly alina) running in the village in the sneak peak we got in september
3. Tolya and Tamar: Alina and Mal meet Tolya and Tamar
4. Wylan: No explanation needed but AHHHHHH. says a lot that heā€™s the only character with the track as simply their name. superior king
5. Come Sail Away: Dramatic moment on Nikolaiā€™s ship, where they first set sail or smth
6. Brother: Jordie flashback (SO SOON THO, assuming the soundtrack is in order).Ā
7. Arriving at the Island: Nikolaiā€™s ship docks at an island where they look for the sea whip, I havenā€™t read S&S in a hot minute so donā€™t count me on this one
8. Crows ambushed: :( Probably involves Pekka
9. Return of the Useless Grunt: No idea who this is... definitely something to do with Ketterdam and the Dregs tho
10. Iā€™m Here for the Killers: Kaz related Iā€™m guessing, perhaps him talking to the crows and reminding what theyā€™re here for, inducing a ruthless mindset
11. Matthias fights: Hellgate scene ay
12. The Night We Met: Christina Strain posted this on twitter with an explosion emoji so I think weā€™re safe to assume itā€™s for wesper!! so we ARE getting tannery scene?? Iā€™m so confused haha
13. Become the Blade: Itā€™s mal doofuses
14. Jesperā€™s Past: AHHHHHH
15. Hope is Dangerous: Inej, a darker moment for her character this season (perhaps the way she isĀ ā€˜testedā€™ that Amita referred to in an interview a long time ago?). Or maybe this is the scene in the trailer where she is fighting the Shu warrior?
16. Shu Han: Party arrives in Shu Han Iā€™m guessing, the crows are involved too I bet since they seem to be in Shu Han in the trailer
17. The Disciple: Something to do with s&b, possibly the apparat? I need to reread that series before s2
18. I Canā€™t Lose You: Malina (perhaps alludes to Darklingā€™s remarkĀ ā€œAre you prepared to sacrifice that which is most precious to you?ā€)
19. Deserve Her: Kanej or Malina, could be Helnik but I have no idea where theyā€™re going with Nina and Matthias and if they will even meet other than in Matthiasā€™s dreams
20. Chased: Not sure, either crows or Mal and Alina again
21. Battle at the Moat: Was this where Wylan was with Kaz and he was throwing a bomb at Tamar? I was never sure if Tamar was actually part of that scene or if they were different ones. Either of those shots are definitely involved her though
22. Stronger Than An Emerald: Iā€™m guessing this is related to Pekka (Emerald Palace), and definitely is true since Kaz ended up refurbishing the place and renaming it The Silver Six (adorable btw). But if so, does that mean the crows have now returned to Ketterdam? Or has Pekka Rollins joined them in Shu Han? Or did they never go to Shu Han in the first place?
23. We Can Do This: Perhaps the scene with Kaz, Jesper, Wylan, Tolya, Tamar, Nikolai, and Adrik where they are watching the nichevoya and about to attack?
24. Final Goodbye: Crows part with s&b crew, or maybe the darkling and alina. Or if they reach the end of r&r and mal is about to sacrifice himself for alina?
25. Let Me Be Your Monster: Darkling, move on
26. Loss ad Sacrifice: Never mind, THIS is probably where mal sacrifices himself?? Or maybe Genya and the nichevoya?
27. Hope for the Future: Ending theme, perhaps ties in with the Inej track
28. How Will You Have Me: this is going to be the best scene in the show.Ā
29: Rise And Fall: idk man probably s&b related
Notes:
- this season is going to be INSANE. iā€™m really excited and scared because Iā€™ve been waited for this for two years and... wow.Ā
- no Nikolai track? MaybeĀ ā€˜come sail awayā€™ is for him?
- hyped for march 10 when i will be able to listen to them and analyze all of these further!

The scout shook his head. "No one." Tyrande's expression was crushing, and he felt, more than guessed at, her heartache.
Malfurion turned to his wife. Her beautiful, nearly ageless face was stricken with worry, fear, and a trace of the immovable determination he had come to recognize over their long courtship.
"Tyrande..." Malfurion enclosed her hands in his comfortingly.
"I have to go to her, Mal. Shandris is like a daughter to me." She paused. "Perhaps the only daughter I will ever have."
Her words stung.
"You have had a vision, then?" Malfurion knew that the moon goddess, Elune, had granted Tyrande such insights in the past.
"No, not this time. Elune has been veiled of late. My feelings come from within.... A mother knows when her child is in peril." She paused as he looked at her skeptically. "Not all bonds are in blood, Mal."
"But ever since this tragedy struck, we have been telling our people to stay in Teldrassilā€”not to search for their relatives on the mainland lest they find nothing but their deaths."
"Do you believe that I go to my death, then?" Her eyes glinted like ice.
"No," he admitted. There was no denying that the high priestess was one of Elune's favored and also a formidable warrior in her own right. "But I would not leave Darnassus during such dire times. I know that I have been absent too often beforeā€”it troubles me. I wish I had been there when Teldrassil was formed, when my brother met his end in Outland...." He sighed. "Yet I cannot change the past. I can only be here now." And I would have you here by my side, he would have added, but her expression silenced him.
Dejahna had been right: faith was her only guide. Now it drove her through a relentless storm to rescue the most capable general she had ever known from a danger that was vague but unavoidable in her mind. And she was alone. None of her words had moved Malfurion, even though she was certain of them.... It seemed that faith was a rare gift indeed.Ā
I was rereading Seeds of Faith and like... this is the sort of thing that I dislike about Malfurion and Tyrandeā€™s relationship. You have several pieces of text where he clearly notices how distressed she is about Shandris, and she states plainly how important to her it is to do this because Shandris is like her daughter, only for Malfurion to be like yeah I know thatā€™s terrible and all but I have been absent for so long and I donā€™t want to leave our people now so you should stay here with meĀ when 1. first time he left to work as a druid Tyrande asked him to stay and he didnā€™t 2. itā€™s not like sheā€™s asking him to leave for ten thousand years 3. she thinks Shandris, who she considers to be her daughter, might be actually dead. Granted, he goes after her later but like... was it that hard to support his wife when she clearly needed it? If he planned to go even though he didnā€™t want to, wouldnā€™t it be better to let her know he would go, just not at that moment? Instead he lets Tyrande go alone, believing him not to have cared in spite of what she tried to say when the cataclysm is happening.Ā
I just feel like a lot of their relationship seems really one-sided at times ----- Iā€™m not saying that it is, Iā€™m saying that at times canon makes it look like Tyrande cares about him a lot more than Malfurion cares about her. If it was Malfurion asking her to go look for someone really important to him, Tyrande would go in a heartbeat, specially if she noticed he was being deeply affected by the fact this person would likely be dead. Yes, she chose the Temple of Elune and Ysera over saving him in Valā€™sharah (because sheā€™ll always choose her goddess before literally anything else), just as he chose his druid duties and to walk the Emerald Dream after the WotA; but other than when being forced to choose between her people/Elune and Malfurion, sheā€™s very likely to run to help him whenever he needs, and things like those excerpts above make it seem like the contrary isnā€™t always true.

Recent Reading: Last First Snow
So, if I havenā€™t been writing a lot this summer, what have I been doing? One thing Iā€™ve been doing is reading.
I read the first three books of Max Gladstoneā€™s Craft sequence relatively quickly (the first in publication order, at least -- Three Parts Dead, Two Serpents Rise, and Full Fathom Five), and then put off Last First Snow because I knew it was going to wreck me.
Last First Snow, though published fourth, is a prequel taking place 17-20 years before the other books, and featuring characters who, in the later books, are inscrutable mentors, employers, or antagonists, to the younger protagonists.
This book, however, gives full attention to that older generation of characters as they attempt to clean up the messes lingering from their own war-torn youth, so you get to see a lot of Temoc, a reformed warrior-priest; the King in Red, a lich-CEO with a grudge; and Elayne Kevarian, the necromancer-lawyer whoā€™s trying to mediate between them and other parties as they confront problems of gentrification, popular protest, and human sacrifice.
I highly recommend the series as a whole, and this would not be a bad entree to it, though there is more clear exposition of the world system in Three Parts Dead. I think you get enough here to understand whatā€™s going on, and of course youā€™ll be in more suspense regarding the outcome than if youā€™ve already read Two Serpents Rise. Well worth reading in either order, though.
Spoilers and further discussion after the cut, also spoilers for Two Serpents Rise.
If you have read Two Serpents Rise, of course, you read all of LFS with a lingering sense of dread and forboding, because you know that eventually things are going to shit, that Temoc is going to mark his son and abandon his family, and that things are going to burn. I still found the book very effective and explaining why those things happen -- in TSR, Caleb has his own explanations for what happened, and doesnā€™t much care what Temoc has to say; seeing Temocā€™s actual psychological struggle, and his efforts to make peace, is moving and painful. Elayne also comes more vividly to life, though Iā€™m fascinated by the intensity of her moral compass, given what weā€™re told of her actions during the God Wars. Iā€™m really curious what events in the intervening years made her who she is in this book.
Reading LFS gave me the urge to reread TSR, which was a bit of a trial; that book is my least favorite of the series, because while I enjoy Caleb and Teo, the whole femme fatale plotline makes Caleb look incredibly gullible and frankly kind of stupid, and also makes Mal pretty opaque. The desire to reread it in light of LFS was strong enough, though, that I did a fairly quick spin through that book.
The reread was worth it; with LFS fresh in my mind, itā€™s so clear that Caleb, Teo, and Mal are all the children of the Skittersill Rising, their lives bent and warped by that event in so many ways. Every interaction between Caleb and Temoc becomes more laden with feeling. The brief glimpses of what the Skittersill is like now raise questions about how effective the deal made in LFS truly is.
Even the King in Red gains new dimensions when the books are read back to back; the King in TSR is more reflective and less aggressive than in LFS, making one wonder if he has regrets about his actions at that time. You wouldnā€™t necessarily expect to see character development from an immortal skeleton necromancer, but itā€™s there.
