btw what i think is interesting in nahida and scara's dynamic is that they actually have a lot of unique similarities, specifically the inferiority complex at failing to live to expectations of being a god. like nahida spent 500 years blaming herself for not being able to live up to rukkadevata's wisdom and those justifying sages' mistreatment of herself, basically bc she's too weak for an archon. and scara obv, failing to replace makoto hold the gnosis and despising himself for it

or how they deal with consequences of their actions. in his quest scara was like "i will take accountability for my past crimes" and immediately tried to kill himself. and in her second story quest nahida kept repeating she'll take responsibility for hard decisions and in the end turned out her method of taking responsibility is also basically killing herself to fix the issue.

idk i think its interesting, nahida didn't just adopt a random feral wet cat with fleas that tried to scratch her face, i think she like, related to him. mb she was a lil like if even he can be fixed, then i'll be okay, u know what i mean

Modern!Ei is not a bad mom and here's why

Her relationship with Scaramouche is complicated and not necessarily black and white. While in Scara's POV, he thinks that she despises him and loves his sister (Raiden) more, it's just misunderstood

Parents will always have a high expectation for their children. I believe that it is in Ei's best interest that she has an good predecessor to her family name, which is why she pushes both her children to be better

As the story in my AU is told in Scara's POV, it seems like she hated him for having emotions like a normal child. However, in reality, Ei was not yet mature enough to raise a child - much less an emotional one - and rushed too hard to adopt one

After losing Makoto, Ei was worried that she would not be a good enough person to follow the family name, so that pressured her into adopting Scara when she was still young

Which is why she panicked, and thought that instead of disciplining Scara, she went the easy way out and had his sister who she thought was easier to raise

She had Raiden through in vitro fertilization and since Raiden was born with her genes, she thought that she would be an easier child to raise

In Ei's eyes, her neglect for Scara was her giving him "freedom" to raise himself and become who he wanted to be. She didn't know that a parents should be the one raising and taking care of the child throughout their adolescence, and thus, essentially abandoned him in her own household

This is essentially the plot of my AU (if I ever chose to continue it) but yeah, I'm scared of the Ei stans eating my colon so I wanted to discuss how parent-child relationships are, while not always justifiable, are complicated

Your Xiao/Scara parallel thing got me thinking ab when I realized that Sara is what Scara likely would have become if he had stayed by Ei's side

They both have this deep loneliness in them that stems from the belief that their lives are only worthwhile if they are of some use or service. But whereas Scara has turned his back on the gods, Sara continues to seek their favor and approval, even after being shown that Ei can make drastic mistakes because her service to the Shogun is all she's been taught to live for

Sara straight up says that you don't have to remember her name so long as you remember her purpose (defending Inazuma) and how she knows her dad doesn't see her as his adopted daughter, but a weapon.

Sara is the version of Scara that continued to seek Ei's approval and feels that his life is a gift that he must show gratitude for through service. Scara is the version of Sara whose faith in the gods shattered and caused her to want to challenge them herself

Tbh I don't know much about sara bc I don't like blind zealots who will hurt others just bc the order was given, but the scara part makes sense. like we know that after memory wipe, he imprinted like a duckling on the first guy who showed him a shred of kindness, followed him into the city and was ready to work non-stop for free. so yeah, he probs would be incredibly devoted to raiden if she didn't throw him into garbage, but it also 100% wouldn't be great for him overall, like. raiden treated her current raiden shogun puppet like a tool with strict programming and possesses her body at whim or takes away her functions when she wants to, so like imagine how she'd treat a "defective" puppet. at best he'd be given some perfunctionary role and then ignored for the next 500 years, he'd be trying to prove himself useful and she wouldn't even notice

tho even not knowing much of sara i don't think i can agree with "Scara is the version of Sara whose faith in the gods shattered and caused her to want to challenge them herself". Scara is a pretty specific case bc he was created specifically to hold makoto's gnosis, i.e. to be an avatar of a deity and he was dimmed unfit to do so and discarded. this is where his fixation on becoming a god and at the same time resentment of them is coming from, he thinks he can only be worthy if he can prove he can do what he was created for and he despises himself for failing to do so. Sara doesn't have garbage with godhood, her main problem is being an outsider due to being a yokai who are usually not accepted by humans. And she's dealing with it by dissipating her actual identity into nothing but service for ppl who adopted her and for their ideals, which happens to be raiden's ideals. So I don't think if Sara rejected raiden, she'd turn into scara at all.

Ei having partial custody but the other archons refuse to let it be unsupervised until they can trust her caretaking abilities. Mmm, would it realistically make sense for Nahida to adopt someone far older than she?

New thought unlocked: Diluc princess carrying an unconscious puppet reader in all their fancy and dignified Inazuman glory. Even funnier if he played a role in the Fontaine AU in beating up the other soldiers while reader electrocutes Dottore.

Nahida reviving their memories would be really cool. Uncertain of the consequences as all actions have a cause-effect thing to watch out for, but thrilling! Oh, there's definitely good contrast between how the archons have a hand in reader's and Scara's lives. Scara's only really interacted with two, betrayed by one and temporarily working for another. But then examine reader's connections (even with the memory loss) and they really are two sides of the same coin? Like Makoto and Ei, even after both lose their electro mother.

Happy to see more people infected by the joys of Kintsugi!!! Suffer with me.

Oh, manhwa recommendation for something similar! Song of the Doll by Lee Sun-young. I read it years ago and it finally came back into my head after working on a paper.

Actually yes, original custody but Scara and Reader are barely in Inazuma anyways - that and Ei has no household skills at all so usually it ends up with them taking care of Ei instead 🤧 And not sure about that since Nahida doesn't even remember the past - wait, don't forget the memory of Teyvat is altered to believe she was the original archon so no, to her she's still older haha

Diluc bridal/princess carry away from a burning ship both of them drenched from swimming *swoons* however it wouldn't make sense for him to be fighting close by because the thunder thing has friendly fire on haha probably after the failsafe dies down, he swoops in like the Darknight Hero to get them and jumps out of to safety

Probably not because of the literally blow your mind thingy, or thinking that the memories wouldn't do them any good, or maybe they themselves refuse to know and simply wants to move on-focus on the present and future just like Scara/Wanderer moving on! (I'm totally not too sleep deprived to think about the memory thing) And Nahida would simply smile and whisper to herself "like mother, like child then"

Actually yeah the compare and contrast is becoming more apparent now haha, puppet reader was probably close to Barbatos and Morax, and Scaramouche has more connection to the other two yeah~ I do try to make their fates parallel that with Ei and Makoto as much as I can hehe but yes I'm glad that we even got an anon for the Fontaine alternative too haha

It was an unfamiliar cafe, she and her family had just moved in after all, but the strange coincidences, and the strange familiarity Ei shared with the cafe’s interior felt too much to be just a coincidence. That’s when she saw it. A photo hanging at one of the walls, it was a photo of her sister, her son, and their new family here in Sumeru. The place where practically all MakoRukkha content on Tumblr started! (i checked the MakoRukkha tag, theres literally nothing there, we are literally the only ones writing for it goddamn—)

My friend and I literally came up with this crackship on Discord and, after large amounts of time going insane about it there, decided to go "fuck it, we ball" and made a Tumblr for it!

This is a place for the two of us to brainrot about the ship and hope that you come to enjoy and brainrot with us as well! We make content when we can, be it art or writing, and generally just do it for funsies. This is quite literally just a crackship that we made with no lore backing or evidence (unless were fucking delusional and the dendro + electro reaction DOES have lore backing because wtf thats so weird and sus, also khaenriah is possibly underneath sumeru so tHERES A CHANCE MAKO CAME TO SUMERU TO HELP RUKKHA—)

This is the main post containing all the main and relevant MakoRukkha content, and also just a summary and starting point on where to jump off about the AUs and the content we make about the ship and the world we made about it

Makoto adopts Scara / Modern AU Summary:

Set in present/modern times, we translated what happened in Genshin's actual story and lore about Ei's abuse and neglect of Scaramouche into a more parent/child dynamic. Unlike actual lore though, Makoto is very much alive and sees the abuse that Ei is putting Scaramouche through. After an argument that Makoto wins, she successfully adopts him and takes him away from her where the two begin a new life without Ei. In their new life and neighborhood, Makoto begins to catch up with old childhood friend Rukkhadevata which eventually blooms into a beautiful romance and a new family.

Makoto Lives AU Summary:

Instead of dying in the cataclysm / Khaenriah, Makoto instead returns alive but terribly weakened to the point of having a comatose. Distraught over her sister's condition and in lack of a Shogun to rule over Inazuma, Ei creates Scaramouche, who is at this point nameless, as both a replacement for Makoto as Shogun and as a helper/caretaker of the comatose Makoto. But due to her conflict with his role as both a replacement for Makoto and her caretaker, he was banished/hidden away along with her sister in Tatarasuna where Scaramouche, still nameless, cares for her for the many years she's comatose. After waking up and spending time with the people of Tatarasuna, Makoto discovers the horrible job Ei has done ruling over Inazuma, and resolves to do something about it.

SpiderMakoto AU Summary:

While the AU is named "SpiderMakoto", it would still make sense for it to be called the "Genshin X Marvel AU" but, we chose to call it the "SpiderMakoto AU" due to the fact that it started off as a Spidersona for Makoto. The beginning is similar to the Modern AU, the twins live together with Yae, Ei's partner, and Kabukimono, Ei's child. The inciting incident here is, instead of having an argument with Ei and winning, Makoto instead gets into an electrical accident with a spiderbite. She is then comatose for a number of years, wherein she slowly changes and mutates into having the signature abilities of the Spidermen along with her own electrical twist on it.

Yea like I was thinking about the voicelines since they change depending on character after completing archon quests right??? And then I realized that in the Liyue arc, it’s possible that Childe caught Zhongli’s interest by making small talk and mentioning puppet reader in an off hand manner. Honestly, it could even be a brief and vague description where he might be talking about Scara but Zhongli assumes it’s reader. Oh, and Albedo meeting reader early on is definitely cool lore-wise.

And then that led to thoughts about Zhongli taking in reader after Makoto’s death so Scara doesn’t meet them until later. Zhongli to Reader: “Call me fuqin, my new child 🥰” And it is an excellent point to be brought up in the custody war, yes? Why reader was left alone for so long until snarky cat boy came along? And depending on when Zhongli takes in reader, their memories may be different. I’m not too beholden to this au since it also spawned another variation.

Which THEN led to the idea of the Tsarista having battle maids in her palace and reader’s life in the Fatui. Scara keeps them well hidden and the Fatui under him know damn well that they are gonna die protecting reader or wish they did. Scara still gets as clingy as gorilla glue when he’s back from a mission, though.

I’m gonna have to speed through as many hangouts and side quests as possible to get more primos for Scara but I’m not too worried. I’m gonna stick him and Childe in the same room in my teapot eventually.

They dooo and that's why I can't say much after until the next archon quest because I'm not sure how well it would fit based on the suspected changes that happens! But that is such a cool thought, if this is prior to 3.0 of course, Zhongli suddenly realizing that there's a chance that they may be alive instead of MIA like his other yakshas

And then getting his hopes crushed when Childe clarifies it was Scaramouche he was talking about, and then bringing his hopes up again when he then talks about the "Other Lord" hahaha

I want Albedo to meet puppet reader after their kintsugi, something about ashes and dust, still the aura of divine despite everything

And that would be such a cute thought but in Kintsugi canon, they were forced to sleep in Inazuma during the Cataclysm so it would be near impossible for them to meet and get adopted like that sksksks and besides, Zhongli and Liyue has no interactions with Scaramouche afaik,, it would not make much sense for them to even meet

Ohhh Tsaritsa battle maids ohhh I like that idea - pretty spot on with Scaramouche wanting to make sure that reader is hidden as much as possible, and her majesty willing to not mess with that agreement to make sure that Scara doesn't betray. I don't have enough primogems for that gremlin for sure, so I am leaving it up to luck and fate for me

Surely my Sumeru luck would continue on right? 20 pity is enough right? I got Nahida in 30 pity come on;;;

Am most consumed with thoughts about Zhongli attempting to adopt puppet reader (by marrying Scara, did they marry into or out of the family? Sounds like they did both at the same time tbh). Poly thoughts. Poly thoughts are good thoughts. Thinking of Xiao and Albedo and interacting with Scara. At this point Teyvat is poly central. Scara smoochie thoughts are great thoughts.

Scara putting lipstick on puppet reader’s lips only to smudge it with a deep kiss. The image of their lips painted as red as their eyeliner and the marks on his skin when he leaves and they miss him, miss him so dearly, is too much for him. Their skin is soft under his touch and the kintsugi is striking ha against the red. He leans in again and again with an expression of longing and their kiss on his lips and their love in his mind. He feels them grasp at his clothes and they have no need for air but it feels as though he’s breathless and then he pulls them onto his lap and they still aren’t close enough. Never enough. He wonders if it would be enough if they were to meld together in the truest sense, into one soul or spirit. He wonders how hot they would feel, how he would feel, if they were both humans and not puppets in these moments. He wonders if love is the right word for two puppets, the word too little and too lacking but unable to find a word that fits. He stops wondering when they whisper to him. He whispers their words, his words, back to them.

Venti plays his lyre along with Nahida and puppet reader playing their instruments with the Aranara and it’s calm and peaceful as Scara, Zhongli, and Ei watch and listen. Picture of a fractured past attempting to repair itself into the present. The Traveler and Paimon watching these broken and healing immortals in a moment of rest. The Traveler wonders when they, too, can rest. They tie a slip of paper onto a branch of the Sakura tree.

Hm, I think stream of consciousness writing works for me.

The archons are in a custody war, like all of them have their own points and arguments (except for Venti who's only argument is that they're a child of Mondstadt for having a vacation home in his land) because technically Reader's mother is Makoto and she's gone gone so they're free real estate-

Poly thoughts <33 I'm not sure how well Xiao would go in that but poly thoughts <3 as a Scarabedo and Xiaobedo lover I am all for it

And oh my that middle part got a bit spicy 🫣 but goddamn if I don't love it because that's exactly how it would go with his thoughts about his own humanity and still griping with his human emotions and shit (while reader is pretty much better acquainted with mortals since the beginning)

And cutieee Traveler can play with them too of course, that's canon after all, just everyone having a wonderful time - if there's a test of courage then this one's a reprieve of relaxation, and I love the call back to the paper wishes on the branches wooh
