Stained glass window shows Jesus Christ with dark skin, stirring questions about race in New England
WARREN, R.I. (AP) — A nearly 150-year-old stained-glass church window that depicts a dark-skinned Jesus Christ interacting with women in New Testament scenes has stirred up questions about race, Rhode Island's role in the slave trade and the place of women in 19th century New England society. The window installed at the long-closed St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Warren in 1878 is the oldest known public example of stained glass on which Christ is depicted as a person of color that one expert has seen.“This window is unique and highly unusual,” said Virginia Raguin, a professor of humanities emerita at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, and an expert on the history of stained-glass art. “I have never seen this iconography for that time.”The 12-foot tall, 5-foot wide (3.7 meters by 1.5 meters) window depicts two biblical passages in which women, also painted with dark skin, appear as equals to Christ. One shows Christ in conversation with Martha and Mary, the sisters of Lazarus, from the Gospel of Luke. The other shows Christ speaking to the Samaritan woman at the well from the Gospel of John. The window made by the Henry E. Sharp studio in New York had largely been forgotten until a few years ago when Hadley Arnold and her family bought the 4,000-square-foot (371-square-meter) Greek Revival church building, which opened in 1830 and closed in 2010, to convert into their home. When four stained-glass windows were removed in 2020 to be replaced with clear glass, Arnold took a closer look. It was a cold winter's day with the sunlight shining at just the right angle and she was stunned by what she saw in one of them: The human figures had dark skin.“The skin tones were nothing like the white Christ you usually see,” said Arnold, who teaches architectural design in California after growing up in Rhode Island and earning an art history degree from Harvard University. The window has now been scrutinized by scholars, historians and experts trying to determine the motivations of the artist, the church and the woman who commissioned the window in memory of her two aunts, both of whom married into families that had been involved in the slave trade.Story continues“Is this repudiation? Is this congratulations? Is this a secret sign?” said Arnold.Raguin and other experts confirmed that the skin tones — in black and brown paint on milky white glass that was fired in an oven to set the image — were original and deliberate. The piece shows some signs of aging but remains in very good condition, she said. But does it depict a Black Jesus? Arnold doesn't feel comfortable using that term, preferring to say it depicts Christ as a person of color, probably Middle Eastern, which she says would make sense, given where the Galilean Jewish preacher was from.Others think it's open to interpretation.“To me, being of African American and Native American heritage, I think that it could represent both people," said Linda A’Vant-Deishinni, the former executive director of the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society. She now runs the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence’s St. Martin de Porres Center, which provides services to older residents.“The first time I saw it, it just kind of just blew me away,” A’Vant-Deishinni said.Victoria Johnson, a retired educator who was the first Black woman named principal of a Rhode Island high school, thinks the figures in the glass are most certainly Black.“When I see it, I see Black," she said. “It was created in an era when at a white church in the North, the only people of color they knew were Black.”Warren’s economy had been based on the building and outfitting of ships, some used in the slave trade, according to the town history. And although there are records of enslaved people in town before the Civil War, the racial makeup of St. Mark’s was likely mostly if not all white. The window was commissioned by a Mary P. Carr in honor of two women, apparently her late aunts, whose names appear on the glass, Arnold said. Mrs. H. Gibbs and Mrs. R. B. DeWolf were sisters, and both married into families involved in the slave trade. The DeWolf family made a fortune as one of the nation's leading slave-trading families; Gibbs married a sea captain who worked for the DeWolfs. Both women had been listed as donors to the American Colonization Society, founded to support the migration of freed slaves to Liberia in Africa. The controversial effort was overwhelmingly rejected by Black people in America, leading many former supporters to become abolitionists instead. DeWolf also left money in her will to found another church in accord with egalitarian principles, according to the research.Another clue is the timing, Arnold said. The window was commissioned at a critical juncture of U.S. history when supporters of Republican Rutherford B. Hayes and their Southern Democrat opponents agreed to settle the 1876 presidential election with what is known as the Compromise of 1877, which essentially ended Reconstruction-era efforts to grant and protect the legal rights of formerly enslaved Black people. What was Carr trying to say about Gibbs' and DeWolf's links to slavery?“We don’t know, but it would appear that she is honoring people of conscience however imperfect their actions or their effectiveness may have been,” Arnold said. “I don't think it would be there otherwise."The window also is remarkable because it shows Christ interacting with woman as equals, Raguin said: “Both stories were selected to profile equality."For now, the window remains propped upright in a wooden frame where pews once stood. College classes have come to see it, and on one recent spring afternoon there was a visit from a diverse group of eighth graders from The Nativity School in Worcester, a Jesuit boys' school. The boys learned about the window's history and significance from Raguin.“When I first brought this up to them in religion class, it was the first time the kids had ever heard of something like this and they were genuinely curious as to what that was all about, why it mattered, why it existed,” religion teacher Bryan Montenegro said. “I thought that it would be very valuable to come and see it, and be so close to it, and really feel the diversity and inclusion that was so different for that time.”Arnold hopes to find a museum, college or other institution that can preserve and display the window for academic study and public appreciation.“I think this belongs in the public trust," she said. "I don’t believe that it was ever intended to be a privately owned object.” Source link Read the full article

Evil City & Birchbrake ward horoscopes, for consolidation. I can post anything I want and nobody can stop me.
Ward horoscopes are like what if instead of when you were born, your horoscope was based on where you were born (it’s just stereotypes of different parts of the city). Spiff put me onto this by making incredibly good NYC boroughscopes on twitter. I’ve been assigned Brooklyn kin: “not dead just tired and ugly!!, found wet sweater under dumpster, bodega cat who files taxes under a stolen identity, would fuck Manhattan but doesn't want anyone to know it, rat clenched fist of rage, archenemy is them from five minutes ago, bootleg dollar store toys.” It’s like being assigned Orion kin. What an honor!
Okay here we go. For reference: a map showing the wards of Evil City. I’ve left in the lighthouses just for fun.
North Ward - Hot evil moustache-twirling industrialist with another house in the country. Goes jogging in artistically revealing workout clothes. Doesn't even SHOP at Bads Barge.
South Ward - Super rich but no country house. Thinks they're really genuine. “My family has lived in this tiny townhouse for 5 generations.” Bought out a family-owned bodega and only remodeled it a tiny bit, which basically makes them a hero. Really up in arms about Bads Barge.
Port Ward - Can give an impromptu history tour of the Port Ward. Gets overexcited about lighthouses. WILL see a half-eaten sandwich in a trash can and snatch it. Goes out to eat once a year and spends an entire week deciding what restaurant to go to.
West Ward - Really good cook and has to go to 5 different stores because This one has the really fresh mint but This one has the only labneh worth eating. Throws amazing parties but always gets into fights at them. Makeup immaculate at all times. Can win a staring contest with a seagull over a bag of chips.
River Ward - Never shuts up about how the island doesn't have subway service. Can recite their family tree for 8 generations and has a baseball signed by the entire membership of the Billies. Only owns t-shirts with holes in them. Goes out to eat three times a week.
Kill Neck Ward - Furious 24/7 and shouts everything they say. Speaks a secret language consisting mostly of memes from TV ads. All their clothing is 10 years out of style. Seems to hate all their family but will kill you if you say something rude.
Oxbow Ward - If you suffer from mesothelioma you are NOT entitled to compensation. Passed through tiredness and now lives where mortals cannot tread. Saves up a year’s worth of energy to have a riot at a folk concert because music is the only thing they come out of the grave for.
Hell’s Gate Ward - normally very quiet and polite and then you hear they committed a murder. Fashionable in a grunge sort of way. "What have amateur photographers ever done to you?” "I’m from Hell’s Gate." Will corner you and tell you about their asphalt special interest.
Ninth Ward - Will give rides to a complete stranger an hour out of their way. Attends ALL public transit committee meetings and hearings and would take a bullet for the 10th Crossing ferryman. Eats the BLANDEST fucking food. Plays heartbreaking folk guitar.
Longwood Ward - Insists that they are “upper middle class.” Exclusively eats at restaurants that used to be a mill. Very cool taste in fashion, patron of the local arts. Has never spoken to an artist. Keeps loose tacos in their pockets.
Ends Ward - Needs to take a walk in the nearest forest even if it’s three miles away. Goes out to eat every week but always at the same restaurant their brother-in-law runs. Nobody knows what their job is or how they get money. Gives exactly a quarter to every panhandler they pass.
And Birchbrake! I suspect there may actually be a sixth ward in southern Birchbrake but it isn’t on this map and so I do not know about it. I described Birchbrake as the Worcester to Evil City’s Boston but nobody on twitter got it because they’re all from the greater Newark metro area and know nothing about anywhere else.
Fisher’s Ward - Owns at least one boat. Cannot do anything with their hands if they're not also gossipping. Can yell a conversation over 4 lanes of traffic. Will invite someone over for dinner having known them for ten minutes. Sauce maniac.
Crucible Ward - SO fucking cool. Knows how to blow flawless distillation glassware and can jerryrig an invention for almost anything, but cannot read. Always has a helpful suggestion. Extremely tired.
Iron Ward - Eats like a horse. Has been in a restaurant twice in their life and feels weird about the concept of fast food. Will yell WHAT? three times and then answer while you’re repeating it. If you ask them to do something impossible they’ll just shrug and do it.
Far Hill Ward - Will walk out of a conversation halfway through. Very cool, but too annoying to actually be considered cool. Gets into contests all the time because they’ve got something to prove. Weirdly well-dressed.
Gateway Ward - Eternally and constantly irate about how overrated Evil City is. WILL riot over baseball. Plans receptions for 20 people that take up an entire room of a large restaurant, but won't call ahead. Does NOT know they have clinical depression.
#some day I'm going to make vera do horoscopes for the rest of the towns around#evil city#then watch out.

My Favourite Bridal Hair & Makeup (Part 4) ** Happy Anniversary **
HAPPY WEDNESDAY
My fourth blog in this series is Fi’s wedding, I thought it would be nice to share today as it is their third wedding anniversary. The wedding took place at The Cowshed at Woodhall Farm in Codsall Wood Wolverhampton.
THE LOVE STORY
“ Sam and I are Christians and met on the opening of a new church called freedom church Worcester 6 years ago.
Since the beginning of our relationship we’ve loved spontaneous adventurous walks. On one of our early dates, I packed a surprise picnic for Sam. He was enjoying the food and said’ if you’ve packed skips then il will marry you now” you’ve guessed it, I had! You should have seen his face and no we didn’t get married in that moment.....
We dated for 3 years before Sam went out to get an sandwich and came back with an engagement ring by him. He proposed on a wet and foggy day up in the Malvern hills with no one around, it was dreamy.
With our love of street food, vintage Hollywood glamour, Star Wars and the outdoors we decided that a DIY wedding was definitely for us. After months of searching, we finally found The cowshed in Codsall.
As you can tell, we don’t mind the rain, in fact we love the rain and I ended up walking down the aisle in the pouring rain where I met Sam holding a red umbrella, it was honestly so us and so perfect!”
THE INSPIRATION
Fi loves vintage glamour and wanted this styling for her own wedding, I was so excited to create this look, Fi has really thick hair which is perfect to create vintage waves, she also has amazing alabaster skin which is also ideal to create a flawless 40’s makeup look.
THE VENUES
Fi and her bridesmaids got ready over at the Roundhouse farm house in Boningale which was so pretty and quiet. Surrounded by sheep and chickens was the most idilic way to start the day.
Fi and Sam did the legal bit at the incredibly majestic Victorian Council House in Malvern, Worcestershire.
An outdoor ceremony and the party was held at the Cowshed at Woodhall Farm in Codsall, Wolverhampton.
The venue is an 18th century Cowshed, perfect for a DIY wedding as it is a blank canvas, built in 1700 it was a oat, corn and wheat store then through the 1800’s it was the home of 20 dairy cows. Then in 2014 the owner had the dream of having their own wedding in a candlelit old farm building so with the help from family and friends they converted it for their own wedding and now is shared with other lucky couples.
HAIR AND MAKEUP
I curled and pinned Fi’s thick hair and left it to set while I did the bridesmaids hair and makeup. I kept Fi’s eyes quite simple with just champagne gold and brown shades on the lids, (Urban Decay and MAC) with a winged liquid liner (Iglot gel liner and Kat Von D for even more definition) and lots of individual lashes, this makeup was all about the lip, a wonderful bright tomato red, (MAC: quite the standout retro matte) with a very light coverage foundation (The Ordinary serum foundation), a golden shimmery blusher (MAC Trace Gold) and very soft natural bronzer (Body shop Honey Bronze)
The Bridesmaids all had quite fresh natural makeup with a pastel pink lip and the hair was a combination of curls, plaits and unstructured buns. I then brushed out Fi’s curls with a paddle brush, added some Aveda anti humectant pomade to give the curls some shine and structure, then finished the look with a custom made birdcage veil made by Kate Brown- Bespoke Miliner .
Fi’s beautiful dress was from WED2BE by Anna Sorrano
THE REVIEW
I am so happy and relieved that I found Nicola to be our wedding make up and hair artist. I got married last September and from the moment I met Nicola in my trial, she was so professional, inspiring and so talented! I felt so relaxed on the morning of the wedding day because in the trial she created my dream look of 'vintage glamour' within no time. She made sure I was happy and comfortable throughout the morning which so lovely of her. She knows her stuff and was always so accommodating to make my bridal 'look' was perfect before I went down the aisle. My husband LOVED the look she created too ( there were a few tears teehee) If you want a very creative and lovely artist to help make your wedding hair and makeup complete, Nicola is your gal!

Event Report: Rock and Shock 2017
It's quite serendipitous for horror fans when a Friday the 13th lands in October; the only thing that could make it even better would be a horror convention on the same day. That's precisely what happened for the 14th annual Rock and Shock, which took place October 13-15 at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Although headliner James Remar was forced to cancel his appearance with little notice, the celebrity room was still packed, including many new faces to Rock and Shock. The Walking Dead's Tom Payne, Pollyanna McIntosh, and Kirk Acevedo were among the top names. Derek Mears (Friday the 13th) is one of the kindest people you'll ever meet in the industry or otherwise, while Amy Steel (Friday the 13th Part 2) was extremely sweet in her first Rock and Shock appearance - and she loved my friend’s Broke Horror Fan shirt! Japanese filmmaker Kurando Mitsutake (Gun Woman, Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf) was also very personable, and he sold everything - autographed Blu-rays, posters, 8x10s - for only $10 each.
Filmmaker Adam Green is always a big draw, but he continues to meet fans and give autographs free of charge. This year, he was matched with several actors from his Hatchet franchise - including the brand new fourth installment, Victor Crowley, which he screened the night before Rock and Shock in nearby Salem. The Hatchet alumni included Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th Parts VII-X), Mercedes McNab (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Laura Ortiz (The Hills Have Eyes), Tiffany Shepis (Sharknado 2), Zach Galligan (Gremlins), and John Carl Buechler (Friday the 13th Part VII).
Hodder appeared in his Friday the 13th Part VII makeup for a limited photo op on Friday, while Eugene Clark greeted fans in his Land of the Dead wardrobe all weekend. Other celebrity guests included special effects legend Tom Savini (Dawn of the Dead, Friday the 13th), Jonathan Breck (The Creeper from all three Jeepers Creepers films), Alex Vincent (Child's Play 1 and 2), Christine Elise (Child's Play 2), Linnea Quigley (The Return of the Living Dead), Tom Morga (Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning), Barbara Magnolfi (Suspiria), Kristina Klebe (Halloween), and Eileen Dietz (The Exorcist).
The movie nerd in me loves hearing filmmakers and actors discuss their work in commentaries, interviews, and Q&As. As such, I was honored to host two Rock and Shock panels this year. On Friday night, I chatted with actors Alex Vincent and Christine Elise about the Child's Play franchise, including the new Cult of Chucky. On Saturday evening, I had the honor of hosting the "Makeup Maestros" panel with special effects greats Tom Savini and John Carl Buechler. One of my favorite Q&As of the weekend, they discussed everything from their shared history with the Friday the 13th franchise to advice for budding effects artists.
Perhaps the most entertaining event was Adam Green and Derek Mears' "We'll Tell You When We Get There" panel. Both have extensive backgrounds in comedy, so they had the audience - and each other - rolling with laughter as they riffed and shared humorous stories from their experiences in the industry. Green also revealed that there will be an episode in Holliston's third season that follows Mears' and Colton Dunn's recurring police officer characters on Cops-style busts that occur simultaneously with previous episodes of the show. During the "Legendary Ladies" panel, Amy Steel detailed an interesting concept for the original Friday the 13th Part 3 script she was pitched that would have seen her reprise her role as Ginny; she admits that she regrets turning down such a great role now.
It's always impressive to see the talented cosplayers strut their stuff in Rock and Shock's costume contest. This year, Rock and Shock co-founder Kevin Barbare, who served as emcee, got in the spirit with his own Jack Sparrow costume. Participants included two different incarnations of Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th Part 2 and Freddy vs Jason), Alice Cooper, a guitar-playing Lucifer, Elvira, and a personification of the Necronomicon. As chosen by audience applause, The Babadook - in which the girl behind the makeup remained gleefully in character - took home the top prize, while a monstrous incarnation of Masters of the Universe's Skeletor - complete with the severed head of He-Man - was awarded second place.
The vendor room was filled with all kinds of great merchandise, ranging from officially licensed products to independent films to handmade crafts and everything in between. It was a good excuse to catch up with friends like Survival of the Film Freaks directors Kyle Kuchta and Bill Fulkerson, photographer Jeremy Saffer, authors Adam Cesare and Matt Serafini, and London 1888 artist Christopher Ott, along with the friendly folks at Source Point Press, Vinegar Syndrome, Troma, Fiona's Fright Shoppe, and more. Needless to say, there was no shortage of enticing booths at which to spend your time and money.
It wouldn't be Rock and Shock without concerts next door at The Palladium. This year featured Ministry, Death Grips, Harley Flanagan (ex-Cro-Mags) on Friday; Superjoint, Motionless in White, The Amity Affliction, DevilDriver, and Miss May I on Saturday; and Rock and Shock regulars Twiztid on Sunday, to name a few. Adam Green returned to his rock roots to perform with his recently-reunited band Haddonfield, which he fronted prior to moving to Los Angeles for his film career. Their first show back was on Saturday with a set that included "Love It Down Your Throat" from Holliston.
The Rocking Dead - a supergroup of metal and rock musicians that forms annually for Rock and Shock - once again gathered for a fun set of covers. Led by Ace Von Johnson (Faster Pussycat) on guitar, the main backing band also included Acey Slade (Joan Jett) on bass, Kriz DK (Genitorturers) on drums, and Wayne Lozinak (Hatebreed) on guitar, though they were joined by a revolving door of musicians - including Tim Cappello from The Lost Boys on saxophone for a couple of songs. Vocalists included Adam Green, former Headbangers Ball host Riki Rachtman, Wil Francis (William Control), and Bret Von Dehl (ex-The Relapse Symphony), belting out songs from the likes of the Misfits, Ramones, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Dead Kennedys, and Stone Temple Pilots.
After last year's absence, I was excited to see the return of Rock and Shock's screening room. Two shorts that I directed (Root of All Evil and Be Us) played as part of short film blocks alongside some other bite-sized horror, both local and national. Several guests visited the film room to introduce their work, including Mitsutake with two of his films: Monsters Don't Get to Cry and Karate Kill. A mystery screening advertised as "It Came from a DVDR" in the program turned out to be a VHS transfer of 1985's Hard Rock Zombies from the folks at VHSPS.
The weekend came to a close with a To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story. In addition to tell-all interviews with Hodder, the documentary features input from fellow genre icons like Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead), Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), and Cassandra Peterson (Elvira). But whether or not you have any interest in the actor/stuntman's extensive career, the film is a compelling tale of human triumph. Not only did he overcome a near-death experiencing involving a fire stunt gone wrong, he also opens up about the bullying he suffered as a child. Unfortunately, a scheduling snafu with the venue forced the screening to be cut short, but I'm very eager to see the rest.
While other horror conventions have resorted to expanding beyond the genre and into the "pop culture" realm in an effort to compete with the massive comic cons, it's refreshing how true Rock and Shock has remained to its roots. October is an impossibly busy month for any horror fan, but I always ensure Rock and Shock weekend is clear on my calendar, as I still find myself wanting more time even after attending all three days. I suggest any horror fan in the New England plan to do the same for the 15th anniversary in 2018.

For My bio on GiveawayFandoms on Twitter
Hi Everyone I'm making this to be a bio for my Twitter and to help you understand more about me and what my Twitter does and who I am.
About me- My name is Emily. My birthday is July 10th. Some artists that I Stan are Aaron Carter,Scott Isbell, BTS, EXO, Ateez, one Direction, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez etc.. If I were to say everyone I Stan this would be way too long. I am from Worcester Massachusetts. It is a city near Boston. I have always been a fan of helping others even when I've been broke I've always helped others in different ways such as advice, holding the door open for them etc.. I am physically and mentally disabled but I don't let my disabilities define me. I have "Moderate mental retardation" but I have a brain . I just don't fully understand what others do and it takes some time and explaining. For example money orders I thought u paid 60 cents or what ever for it and got 100$ I knew logically that made no sense so I sat there for a good 20 minutes asking my dad the same question "That sounds too good to be true what do u do with the other money? U pay cents and get dollars for cents? "He eventually understood and explained u pay the cents and the dollars so I now understand 😂🤷 I have anxiety and I am obese by genetics, It is really easy to gain weight but very difficult to lose weight even though I eat healthy and exercise.
My favorite color is Blue. My favorite food is Pizza . I also love chocolate these are the two food items that I could eat every day and never get sick of it. So yeah that's about it .😂🤷
Please know the following about my Twitter is kinda long and important so please find time to read it carefully and fully Especially the two Disclaimers.
My Twitter - I have made this Twitter into a Giveaway account . Before I turned it into a Giveaway account it was just a saved account that I never used. I have made this mainly for helping fandoms But if you're not in a fandom I do occasionally do Giveaways that aren't Fandom related for example Makeup. Opened giveaways, Proofs and other important things are in my likes. For those asking I do Retweet deals But not in the normal way others do. For example I don't say yes to a bunch of people at once and have multiple Retweet deals going at once. My retweet deals are limited to 4 people at a time and are more like Retweet races. Who ever gets the most Retweets out of the 4 get the prize. There's no set Number for RT's, likes or comments. I will announce when I am doing Retweet deals/Retweet races and post the image with more details. But Some people have gone and posted Before I even agreed to it so Here's how you know if I actually agreed to it, I WILL RETWEET THE RT deal and it is limited to USA only and 20$ (shipping+item) and from Amazon only because they make shipping to others easier with "Gift wrap available". I do it this way because I am not rich and I don't want to go promising everyone Merch for Retweets and not be able to Give you your merch. Please follow all rules stated in the picture and wait for me to reply. All other Giveaways are world wide as long as Amazon ships to your country. Please note I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER HOW LONG SHIPPING TAKES . Please also note that I don't ignore anyone there's sometimes where my Dms are full of people asking for RT deals and merch, winners claiming or people simply having conversations with me but I will get to your DM please allow 2hours- a week for a reply. I don't like to hit DM limit or have my account locked. If I DM too many people at once I get locked or I hit DM limit. I also don't want to get S worded. Lastly please note that an address or P.O box is required in order for me to send you your merch and PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ADDRESS IN A TWEET TO ME THIS IS UNSAFE FOR U BECAUSE ANYONE CAN SEE YOUR TWEETS ON TWITTER . Please also be 18 years of age or have parent's or guardian's (who ever u live with) permission and be honest about it. 💜
👉copywrite/Item Disclaimer👈:
All merch items are trademarks of their respective owners. I do not claim ownership of any items I did not create the merch. I Do giveaways for the merch which I purchase with my own money. All Copy write goes to the owners of the merch. If you would like any trademark or copywrite material removed Please tell me with the link to the one you would like me to remove and it will be promptly removed. I do not make any money from this. This is simply an account for helping others who want merchandise but can not afford it.
👉Disclaimer👈 For those who enter my Giveaways and winners:
Not all giveaways will have pictures of the merch due to copywrite. My account kept getting locked and I believe it is due to copywrite because I read all the rules and that's the only rule that was broken in a way🤷Please know that I try my best to get you your merch the quickest way possible But sometimes unexpected financial or weather issues come up and in this case I will tell you BUT REST ASSURED U WILL GET YOUR MERCH.Also know I order merch online or I ship it to me then to you which ever way is faster I don't want you waiting months for your merch. I use USPS All give aways are FREE FOR YOU all I ask is that you post proof when you receive the merch. If you don't post proof you won't be able to win anymore of my giveaways. This is so others know I'm legit and I know that your merch arrived. You can win up to three giveaways in a 4month period. This Is to make it fair for everyone else . The same person can't always win because that wouldn't be fair to others .Also Sometimes Some giveaways from my personal collection aren't able to be shipped by law.. example was my perfume giveaway where I live I'm not allowed to ship perfume it is out of my control. In the event that I can't ship u it I'll offer u another prize but ever since that giveaway I have asked my sister what I can and can't ship since she's an employee at the post office that I use to help avoid this. THE LAW IS THE LAW and I can't ship anything Domestic or Internationally that the post office says is not allowed so Please understand I try my best to always make giveaways for others possible but sometimes when I go to ship certain things and ask "Is this ok to ship?" Because my sister didn't have the answer They say no. I always ask because they know more about their rules, regulations and the law than I do.

Glenn O’Brien, New York Cultural Icon, Dead at 70—and the 9 Other Biggest News Stories This Week
Catch up on the latest art news with our rundown of the 10 stories you need to know this week.
01 Glenn O’Brien, the pioneering writer who captured the creativity of downtown New York, has died at 70.
(via Artforum)
Glenn O’Brien passed away on April 7th, after battling a long-term illness. A fixture in the 1980s downtown New York scene, O’Brien corralled its artistic energy into magazines like Andy Warhol’s Interview, serving as its first editor, and articles for Artforum, Rolling Stone, GQ, The New Yorker, and more. From 1978 to 1982, O’Brien also co-created and hosted an influential public-access television show, TV Party, in which he conducted humorous, deadpan interviews with downtown luminaries like Klaus Nomi, David Byrne, Debbie Harry, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. O’Brien collaborated with Basquiat on numerous projects before the painter’s untimely death in 1988; notably, he produced and wrote the screenplay for Downtown 81, a 1981 film that followed 19-year-old Basquiat around the city as he painted its surfaces. Along with extensive writings on art, O’Brien is remembered for his keen sense of style and pioneering men’s fashion journalism. In the 1990s, as contributing editor to Details magazine, he established the celebrated column “Style Guy,” which in 1999 he took to GQ; it ran until 2015.
02 The artist list for Documenta 14 was released on Thursday as previews of the quinquennial exhibition commenced.
(via ARTnews)
Opening to the public on Saturday, April 8, Documenta 14 is split equally across two cities—Athens, Greece and its traditional home of Kassel, Germany—for the first time in the exhibition’s 62-year history. Titled “Learning from Athens,” Polish curator Adam Szymczyk’s iteration of one of contemporary art’s most significant and defining exhibitions features some 150 living artists and collectives, including Nevin Aladağ, Alexandra Bachzetsis, Geta Brătescu, Maria Eichhorn, Douglas Gordon, Hans Haacke, Hiwa K, Daniel Knorr, Ibrahim Mahama, Jonas Mekas, Otobong Nkanga, Pope.L, Georgia Sagri, as well as over 50 artists who have passed away—another break with tradition. The Athens portion takes place across 47 venues in the city and runs through July 16th, while Kassel will take place from June 10th through September 17th at currently undisclosed locations. As is customary for the exhibition, details about either city were scarce until Thursday morning’s press conference in Athens, where the artists for that city’s portion of the show were unveiled in spectacular fashion: All of the participating artists and curators appeared on stage to sing a work by Greek composer Jani Christou.
03 A federal court has ruled that Germany can be sued in the United States over Nazi-looted art, paving the way for the nation to face a U.S. court for the first time in a Nazi restitution case.
(via Reuters)
In what lawyers for the heirs are calling a landmark decision, last Friday a Washington D.C. District Court ruled that Germany can be sued in U.S. court in the Guelph Treasure case. A collection of 11th to 15th century precious Prussian artifacts valued at over $250 million, the treasure was sold under duress by Jewish art dealers in 1935 to members of the Third Reich. The case had already been heard by a German commission, which found that, though the sales prices were low, the sum wasn’t a result of coercion but of an art market decline. Germany’s attorney, Jonathan Freiman, told Reuters in an email that “this is a dispute that was already resolved on the merits in Germany, and it doesn't belong in a U.S. court.” But the District Court disagreed, instead siding with the argument put forward by the heirs of the dealers: that such a taking constituted a violation of international law and as such, falls under U.S. jurisdiction as an exception to the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act. Nicholas M. O’Donnell, a partner at Sullivan & Worcester representing the plaintiffs, said in a statement, “We are pleased that the Court agreed that a forced sale for an inadequate sum to agents of Hermann Goering enjoys no immunity from justice.”
04 Renowned Pop artist James Rosenquist has died at age 83.
(via the New York Times)
James Rosenquist passed away in his New York City home on Friday, March 31st, after battling an ongoing illness, according to his wife, Mimi Thompson. Rosenquist is known for working at the vanguard of 1960s Pop Art alongside the likes of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. Both celebrated and criticized for his pointedly political approach, Rosenquist, a former billboard painter, frequently adapted commercial imagery to critique American consumerism and militarism. F-111 (1964–1965), one of his most iconic works, depicts a military jet stretched across an 86-foot expanse of more than 50 panels and punctured by the imagery of mid-century advertising. His idiosyncratic, large-scale paintings are in the collections of MoMA, the Guggenheim and the Whitney, among other institutions, and an exhibition of his work will go on view at Germany’s Museum Ludwig later this year.
05 An Andy Warhol “Mao” broke an auction record in China but still came in under its estimate, sparking a debate about the country’s market.
(via South China Morning Post)
Backed by an irrevocable bid, Warhol’s red silkscreen Mao (1973) sold for HK$ 86 million ($11.1 million) with fees—below the low estimate of HK$ 90 million ($11.6 million)—at a Sotheby’s auction in Hong Kong on Sunday, April 2nd. Last sold at auction in 2014 for $12.2 million, the Warhol went to an unnamed Asian collector bidding over the phone. Though the sale was trumpeted for breaking the record for Western contemporary art sold in China, the relatively tepid interest in the Warhol work and a piece by Keith Haring—especially compared to the strong interest in Asian and Japanese art at the auction—signaled to some that the region’s appetite for Western contemporary artists has softened. But there are other reasons the Warhol may have underperformed. Dealers at Art Basel in Hong Kong earlier this month reported that stereotypically “Chinese” material no longer plays well in the region due to collectors’ rapidly expanding education and sophistication—one even singled out red Maos as a fad of the past. Asian buyers, dealers also said, have been compelled to spend more when bidding against Western collectors at sales in New York and London.
06 Groundbreaking artist Lorna Simpson is now represented by Hauser & Wirth.
(via Hauser & Wirth)
The international gallery announced Tuesday that it will take on worldwide representation of Simpson. This news precedes Frieze New York in May, where the artist’s work will show at Hauser & Wirth’s booth. “We are honored and delighted to welcome Lorna Simpson into the gallery’s family,” said gallery vice president Marc Payot in a statement. “Her rigor, her passion, and her incredible sensitivity produce not only extraordinary art but also an invitation to engage in a dialogue about identity that we are eager to share.” Since rising to prominence in the late 1980s, Simpson’s mixed-media photographs have scrutinized visual and linguistic representations of race and gender. In 1990, she became the first African-American woman to show her work at the Venice Biennale. Other artists represented by Hauser & Wirth include Zoe Leonard, Roni Horn, and Rashid Johnson.
07 Several museums are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Marcel Duchamp’s seminal readymade Fountain by offering free admission on Sunday.
(via Hyperallergic)
Organized by Duchamp scholar Thomas Girst, several major museums across the globe—including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin, and the National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto—are participating in the initiative, which also has the approval of Association Marcel Duchamp. Visitors who utter the name “R. Mutt” or “Richard Mutt,” the pseudonym Duchamp used to sign Fountain (1917), will be let in free of charge from 3-4 p.m. on April 9th. The timing stems from Duchamp’s notable affinity for trios (he once remarked “three is everything” to a BBC reporter). Inspired by the urinal used for Fountain, some museums will also host Duchampian events in their bathrooms. In what the Philadelphia Museum of Art is calling a “special location,” the institution will host a local theater company’s reenactment of the scandal first caused by the artwork in 1917. “Instead of doing your usual symposium, where people put their heads together and say things that have been said so many times before—most of it self referential and sometimes boring—it’s great to honor the anniversary with somewhat of a Dada gesture,” Girst told Artsy. Visitors can tag their experiences or follow along with the festivities via the hashtag “#Fountain100”.
08 Russia has criminalized images that challenge Vladimir Putin’s masculinity.
(via New York Times)
The Russian Justice Ministry declared last month that images showing Russian President Vladimir Putin in an unmasculine light constitute “extremist materials.” The ruling stems from an edited image depicting Putin in heavy drag makeup posted last year to the social network VKontakte. Those who share or display such images can now face a fine of 3,000 rubles ($52) or a 15-day detention. Putin is known for his cultivation of a personal mythos of hypermasculinity, with widely publicized photos showing him riding horses shirtless or sporting weaponry. Putin is also notorious for enacting deeply homophobic legislation—including a ban on adoptions by LGBT couples, the legalized detention of suspected gay citizens and tourists, and the classification of potential “homosexual propaganda” as pornography. This has led to allegations about Putin’s sexuality to become a common protest tactic, a trend this legislation is designed to stifle.
09 The FBI has recovered a stolen Norman Rockwell painting, 40 years after its disappearance.
(via the New York Times)
The Rockwell work, which depicts a slumbering child and his dog, was stolen during a home burglary in 1976. Originally purchased for no more than $100, over the intervening years the piece’s value has reached an estimated $1 million. Decades after the theft—and a few years after the original owner, Robert Grant, passed away in 2004—Grant’s son, John, was inspired to rekindle the search. On the 40th anniversary of the work’s theft, the FBI issued a news release and several Philadelphia outlets ran the story. The renewed attention did the trick as the painting had ended up in the possession of an art dealer who was unaware of its provenance. The dealer turned it over to authorities and the FBI subsequently returned the painting to John Grant last week.
10 A court cleared the Polish government’s controversial takeover of the country’s Museum of the Second World War.
(via New York Times)
The institution will fall under control of the Polish government following Wednesday’s decision by the Polish Supreme Administrative Court. Opened in March in the city of Gdańsk, the museum was conceived to be Europe’s most exhaustive public exhibition on World War II. However, indication that Poland’s right-wing government will seek to alter the museum’s historical direction has ignited a protracted debate. Museum director Pawel Machcewicz curated a permanent exhibition that adopts an international perspective on the histories of Polish citizens, Eastern Europeans, and Nazi Germany’s persecution of Jews. The current Polish administration has long criticized Machcewicz—an appointee of the previous centrist government—placing his future with the museum into question. Poland’s culture ministry has expressed its vision for a more nationalist perspective, one more narrowly focused on Polish losses during the Battle of Westerplatte. Culture Minister Piotr Glinski had previously argued that such a change in conceptual direction would greatly benefit the museum. And on Wednesday, Machcewicz criticized the court’s ruling, expressing his uncertainty over the permanent exhibition’s future integrity.
