Every time I read a queer romance book that's ridiculous and cheesy and cliche and doesn't create conflict from coming outs or queerness in general and is just a bottled up queer joy fantasy I cry a little bit

Book Blurb:
‘Tis the season for holiday hijinks in the newest sapphic rom-com about a rising star and a small town girl going on twelve fake holidates from the New York Times bestselling authors of She Gets the Girl, Rachael Lippincott and Alyson Derrick!
Twelve days of fake dates. Two holidays. One chance to convince everyone they’re in love.
Arden James is Hollywood’s hottest teen actor. Infamously reckless, she’s a constant in the tabloids. But when her messy reputation costs her an audition for her dream role, Arden and her publicist make up a lie to flip the script. Only, for the lie to work, she’ll have to head home for the holidays for the first time in four years.
Caroline Beckett has spent those last four years shining up a stellar portfolio that will get her into a top journalism program and convincing herself she could not be less interested in what her former best friend and first crush has been up to since she left without a word. But when Arden suddenly shows up at her doorstep with the promise of a real byline in Cosmopolitan in exchange for a write up on their “secret romance” and twelve snow-covered holidates in their Christmas-obsessed hometown, Caroline can’t help but be tempted into playing along.
It should be easy enough to stand each other for twelve days to make their dreams come true, right? But when old feelings start to bubble up, so do new holiday wishes that might just have Arden and Caroline falling faster than that Christmas Eve snow…
Review:
A second chance sapphic romance between a rising star and a small town girl who have to go on twelve fake dates together to convince everyone they are in love despite their past. Arden James is Hollywood's rising teen actor and she is known for her reckless reputation and for partying hard... but her reputation might cost her her dream role. Her publicist tells her to make a lie to convince the director that she's the perfect small town girl that would be great for the role... but that means going back to her actual small town and facing her ex best friend and the one girl she's always had a crushed on and left behind. Caroline Beckett adores her small town life, she's working to get into her top journalism program and trying very hard to avoid all news about her former best friend/first crush, Arden. Yet when Arden suddenly shows up and asks Caroline to be her fake girlfriend for twelve holidates in their Christmas obsessed town and let Caroline write an article on Arden.... Caroline agrees. Yet this means that they'll both have to face their old feelings and hurts as well as the undeniable crushes on each other... but as the holidates begin to feel real, can they make a relationship work when they live two completely different lifestyles? This was a a very second chance best friends sapphic romance and I loved the Christmas vibes of this one. This was a cute read and one that would make a fun one for the holidays. I loved that no matter what Arden and Caroline did really love one another despite the years apart and it was sweet to see them finally get their happily ever after. This would make such a cute Christmas rom com! Highly recommend for your holiday TBR.

🎄 HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY 🎄
I’m so excited to read this one. Thank you Simon & Schuster Australia for sending me a copy!
[instagram]
SYNOPSIS:
Twelve days of fake dates. Two holidays. One chance to convince everyone they’re in love.
Hollywood teen actor Arden James’ messy reputation is interfering with her career when a notoriously picky director won’t give her a role based on her party-girl image. So she and her publicist make up a lie – not only is she from a small town (true) but her childhood best friend Caroline, is her long-term girlfriend (false) and she can prove it when she goes home for Christmas.
Caroline Beckett hasn’t thought about her ex-best friend Arden James for years, focusing instead on her dreams about becoming a journalist. When Arden turns up on her doorstep and promises her an article in Cosmopolitan magazine on their twelve snow-covered romantic days together, Caroline agrees to play along. But when old feelings start to bubble up, what will fall faster – Arden and Caroline or the Christmas Eve snow?

Starting off the TRCC Readathon strong by finishing an ARC of Make My Wish Come True by Rachael Lippincott & Alyson Derrick tonight! Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for providing me with an ARC of this fabulous book!
I adored this book! It was exactly the kind of cheesy, schmoopy, small town Christmas romance I love reading, but it came served with a healthy amount of angst and mutual pining, too! The main characters, Arden and Caroline, were super likable - and also super flawed. It made their romance that much more believable.
One thing I enjoyed about this story that while it definitely leaned on the standard holiday romance tropes, it didn't rely on them. Arden and Caroline get real development over the course of the story and it was easy to see why they'd never gotten together to begin with. There was miscommunication, yes, but the story didn't fall into the trap of miscommunication being the only thing keeping its heroines apart. These two had real issues they had to contend with before they could admit they loved each other.
The authors captured the small town vibes perfectly. Anyone who has ever lived in a small town will be able to picture their favourite spots when Arden and Caroline are visiting theirs. And I loved how the story embraced both Hanukkah and Christmas, including traditions from both - it was nice to see another holiday included in a holiday romance other than just Christmas!
Overall, this was an easy 5 star read from me. I will be purchasing a copy as soon as they're available here. I've already texted all my sapphic friends to tell them to, too.

And as she pauses in the doorframe to pull me into a kiss underneath the mistletoe, I can't help but wonder if my twelve days with Arden James can turn into a lifetime.

This book is like a cup of hot cocoa on a winter day. It’s warm, it’s cozy, and the characters, atmosphere, and growth are lovely. I only wish I had read this closer to Christmas, as it embodies everything you want to feel during this holiday.

Maaaaan... My roommates went to the countryside for the weekend and it's just ✨ heaven✨ on earth to live alone ʕ º ᴥ ºʔ
I never felt as relaxed and peaceful as I'm rn. Having the whole apartment as ur own personal space is like incredibly awesome!!! щ(゜ロ゜щ)
I can't afford the whole apartment for myself unless I win the lottery jackpot or find some random treasures/gold here, so I went and bought a lottery ticket 🎟️.

🎄 BOOK REVIEW 🎄
Make My Wish Come True by Rachael Lippincott and Alyson Derrick
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Thank you so much to Simon & Schuster Australia for sending me a copy of this book.
I absolutely loved every minute of this one. It was the perfect read to start December and the festive season with.
I LOVE a good fake dating plot and the estranged friends to lovers added a whole extra, wonderful layer to the story.
Both Caroline and Arden were such wonderful characters. So full of love and pain and ambition and fear, both expressing it in different ways.
I highly recommend if you’re looking for something to add to your holiday TBR.

Make my Wish Come True by Rachael Lippincott & Alyson Derrick
▪︎ holiday romance novel ▪︎
four years ago, caroline beckett's best friend (and first crush), arden james, up and left their small, christmas-driven town of barnwich for a career in hollywood. now, arden is hollywood's favorite infamously hot and reckless teen actress, and caroline has spent her high school years creating the perfect portfolio to help her become get into a top-notch journalism program. everything's going great for both of them—arden is landing role after role, constantly in the press (although not always for the best reasons), and caroline is living out a happy life in barnwich and ignoring every single piece of news about arden.
and then the unthinkable happens. arden auditions for her dream role, the one she's been striving for her entire career, does beautifully... and is told that she's too "artificial" for it. so she and her agent flip the story, spilling out arden's background as a girl from a small town with a small flourish: this whole time, she's been secretly pining away for her childhood crush, caroline herself. now, arden's heading home for the holidays for the first time in years. and even though convincing caroline to play along is easier than she expected, the two still have to somehow make it through their twelve days of (fake) holidates looking like they've been secretly in love with each other for four years without letting their real feelings spill over and making everything messy and complicated. easy, right?
▪︎
to me, this book will forever be proof that you should always listen to your hopeless romantic of a friend when it comes to holiday romance novels, because they know better. but anyway, all of that to say: i LOVED this book. for me, holiday romances tend come off as either far too cheesy, way too focused on the holiday and not so much on the romance, completely lacking in world-building beyond the stereotypical, or all of the above. but. this book falls into none of those three categories. the entire story is painfully realistic; even though arden's a hollywood star, her character never feels outlandish or overdramatic, and her feelings are just as messy as anyone else's. and even though we see plenty of barnwich's christmas-y side, the town still has so much life outside of that. edie's diner was my personal favorite, because there's so much life there, no matter what time of year it is. and finally, the romance itself. it's so frustrating to see how oblivious both caroline and arden are, and all their cute little moments together will leave you wanting to bang your head into a wall. but they're so perfect together, and it's impossible not to be rooting for them until the end.
