3. Favorite musical artist / group you started listening to this year?

To the surprise of absolutely no one, the answer is Slipknot :P Their music is just soooooo good, and for better or worse it speaks to me on a rather personal level. Also, intimidating masked men are always fun to look at (pls don’t judge me).

11. Something you want to do again next year?

Hmm…. I’m not sure I’ve really done anything this year. I’d like to be able to write again. That would be pretty damn nice lmao

14. Favorite book you read this year?

15. What’s a bad habit you picked up this year?

HAAAAAA. Uhhhhh. Oh man. There are a few to choose from. We’ll go with compulsive handwashing – it’s not a new bad habit, but it’s one I restarted this year, unfortunately.

22. Favorite place you visited this year?

Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for this one. I haven’t really been anywhere this year. Haven't had the time and/or emotional stability for it.

I do sort of wish western anime fans would analyze anime and manga from a framework of japanese historical and cultural context. Specifically a lot of works from the 90s being influenced by the general aimlessness and ennui that a lot of people were experiencing due to the burst in the bubble economy and the national trauma caused by the sarin terrorist attack. I think in interacting with media that’s not local to our sociocultural/sociopolitical sphere it’s easy to forget that it’s influenced and shaped by the same kinds of factors that influence media within our own cultural dome and there ends up being this baseline misalignment of perception between the causative elements of a narrative and viewer interpretation of those elements. It’s a form of death of the author that i think, in some measure, hinders our ability to fully understand/come to terms with creator intent and the full scope of a work’s merits

frankly, the people whose kneejerk reaction to bisan asking for a global strike form the 21st-28th is to say that it takes years to organize a general strike are really unhelpful! no one is saying otherwise, but palestine will be a smoking crater if we all wait for years to do anything - bisan is asking us to do something now. Like are we only supposed to do something if we can do it perfectly??? At some point it’s a valid critique about the work that goes into social movement, and at another point I feel like some people are just trying to absolve themselves from not putting any effort into observing a week of economic inaction.

like idk! I get it, okay! People have bills to pay that don’t magically go away for a strike, we don’t have nearly enough social infrastructure in place to support people to fully stop going to work for a week. But fuck, dude! Stop immediately responding in such a defeatist way! Cut out unnecessary purchases! Try to shop local! Put more effort into promoting Palestinian voices online! Attend a protest, call a local rep, do something!

every time i ask people if they do any new years resolutions its all ooooo i dont like making them bc i fail or ohhhhh no i couldnt keep up wiht that and then when they ask me and i tell them about Pasta Quest (i am eating as many different pasta shapes as possible in the space of a year) or when i did Fruit Adventures (every time i saw a fruit i had never eaten before id get one and eat it and read the wikipedia article about it) theyre like hang on i forgot you can make Fun Ones i want a fun one
