Thinking about his dark materials and the part where they find that one child who's lost his daemon and all he's got is a piece of dried fish he's clinging to and nobody really cares for him or remember him, and when they find him nobody even wants to touch him because he has no daemon but that's a child!! A child missing a part of his soul!!! A part of his soul was cut off and all he has is a piece of fish and nobody wants to touch him and then he dies!! And then they try to take the piece of fish away from him, the piece of fish he's holding onto as some resemblances of his soul!!!
10 year old me read that and something fundamentally changed within me I think about him all the time

Tragically misguided penitents...
Saint Assepsumas thought he could rid himself of sin through self-inflicted pain, and he wore so many chains that he had to crawl around on his hands and knees. Makarios the Younger sat naked in a swamp for six months, until mosquito bites made him look like a victim of leprosy. Saint Marin spent eleven years in a hollowed-out tree. Great contributions to society.
Agnes de Roucher was the only daughter of one of the wealthiest merchants in Paris, and all the neighborhood admired her beauty and virtue. Her father died, leaving her his entire estate. She determined to become a recluse and spend the remainder of her days in a narrow cell built within the wall of a church. The bishop of Paris, attended by his chaplains and the canons of Notre Dame, entered the cell and celebrated a pontifical mass. Then, after the poor thing had bidden adieu to her friends and relations, Agnes ordered the masons to fill up the opening except for a small hole so she could watch and hear the offices of the church. She was eighteen when she went in and died at age eighty, never having come out. In all that time, no one ever told her Jesus was the key to redemption. God help such mistaken piety.

Queen..... do you.... have more....... percy babies........ 🤤👹👹👹👹
I'M STILL WORKING ON IT!!!! i DO have plans to release a separate book about percy babies with the yans (like waaaaay into the future), but rn all i got are some names and pics 😂😂
so first off, the names are from the old ask i got, i'm just reusing them cuz i'm lazy LMAO (here) and obviously, i'm gonna use this beelcy baby cuz he's PERFECT for a beelcy child (here)
the issues of making future babies is that it's so hard for me to let go of the fact that human genetics DON'T exist for gods. i keep looking around for pics that are a perfect "blend" of percy + yan when it shouldn't even matter. they're GODS they don't need to have the same features as their parents, but i keep FORGETTING THAT 👹👹👹👹
like, poseidon's blonde and blue eyed, hades has purple eyes and silver hair, zeus is blonde, and then adamas has GREEN FUCKING SKIN and FIRETRUCK RED HAIR. they're brothers and they look NOTHING alike cuz again, genetics don't exist for them 😭😭😭😭
but anyway, the percy babies!
first up is the beelcy baby i showed you guys before. i'm naming him luke LMAO:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(from the manga "shinigami no hanayome". i still don't know this guy's name cuz the chapter he was introduced in has yet to be translated)
now here's the percades baby. i'm reusing the name "thalassus" from that one old post up above^:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(hades from orochi 4. i picked him solely cuz of the vine designs on his skin, just like his daddy!)
for perpollo, i managed to find 3 lol. makarios for the pink dude and no name yet for the girl and blonde guy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(the pink dude's chong ming and the blonde guy's ah-tai, both from legend of exorcism and the girl is qian renxue from soul land. the third guy's so flamboyant just like his daddy AND he plays an instrument LMAO 😭😭 he was perfect)
for posy...... idk i'm honestly thinking of MAYBE using aiden adams from rekkyo sensen. like... i literally started that manga solely because he reminded me so much of poseidon LMAO.
if i do choose him, i'd most likely make him the baby of the family since he looks pretty young. so his name won't be solon, i'm saving that name for the first born
Tumblr media Tumblr media
for anuby, i found a bunch 😂💖💖 no names yet tho, sorry!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(from left to right: centurion from reverse 1999, and then asentah, nicole, and ahmed from dislyte)
for loki, i got nothing but a name, "kyrr" (pronounced "shira") from the old post^ and for cú chulainn, pretty much nothing so far 😭😭😭
i'll reblog and add more to this whenever more comes up, so for now just bear with me! 🥺💖

“Nothing is more stable than instability”
Saint Makarios the Egyptian says that there is no stability in this life;' we should not even expect it. We rise and fall, we go up and down until we learn a great lesson: that salvation is not our achievement but the gift of God. ' Never-theless, we can acquire a relative stability in our instability on earth if we ask God every day to help us make a new beginning. He will unfailingly hearken to such a prayer, for it is God's nature to be ever new. Although He is called ‘the Ancient of days' and remains the same from the beginning to the end of time, He is always new and makes all things new: Thy mercies and Thy compassions are new every morning, says the prophet.
We are not meant to be always in an unchangeable state, whether good or bad; we need instability in order to understand the truth of God, His goodness and mercy, and the truth or rather untruth of man. The lessons we learn from these 'fluctuating experiences' fortify our nature so that it can preserve the grace of God for ever. Therefore, we need to make a new beginning so that we may acquire knowledge of the ever-new mercies of God and sing unto Him a new song every day.
When we rise, we learn God's nature in its energetic form, His goodness. When we fall, we come to know our weakness and poverty. Therefore, these alternating states, the coming and going of grace, help us to acquire the twofold vision outlined by Saint Sophrony: when we are up, we receive knowledge of God, and when we are down, we receive knowledge of man; when we know our weakness, we become thirsty to be saved. Saint Sophrony assures us of the necessity of this instability:
When God forsakes us and we dwell in hell, this allows us to recognise more fully how weak we are, how desolate. Our loneliness in the face of the inevitable mystery of death is fearful... The pain is especially intense for those who have known in some measure the majesty of contact with the love of God in the heart and in the mind. But nonetheless, only with the alternation between being visited and being abandoned can we achieve the 'twofold movement': downwards, to the dark chasms of Godlessness and then upwards, to the luminous realms where God is 'all in all'.
When grace is with us, we give thanks in the power of the Spirit that possesses us; when we are bereft of grace, we give thanks in the power of living faith that God's goodness will save us.

Makarios Noumenia. The point of showing these altar pics is to encourage armchair ritualists to make a space for magic in your life. I had honey and cream on hand, the greenery is my overgrown tansy because I waited until the last minute and couldn’t find white lilies, the water is tap and the green plums were a lucky find at the local Arabic mart. Full disclosure; the madelines are from Kroger because it’s too hot for this ex-pastry chef to turn on her stove. I decided on my theme last night, scrounged through my linens for a decent unstained white tablecloth and rummaged through old white dishes to complete a white lunar setting. I think I spent $12 because wine. It’s Apothic btw, just a cheap drinkable bottle. But I didn’t need to spend a cent. Water and something green from my yard, and a stick of incense is enough. Nothing needs to be overthought or needs to feel extravagant; we’re paying homage and asking our deities to see us. We work from wherever we are and that’s exactly as good as we can offer. They understand.
If you’re a bit of an armchair ritualist or witch, I challenge you to do this thing that helps me stay in my magical groove: do 3 magical things everyday. Tiny things count so add cinnamon to your coffee for a little prosperity magic, clean a window or your workspace with Florida water, light a tea light candle as an offering. Keep doing little acts of magic and eventually it becomes second hand. Anything can be magic if you make it so.
Happy Noumenia, and I’ll be back tomorrow evening with my Agathos Daimon altar. ♥️🖤♥️

St Anthony the Great
Tumblr media
St. Anthony the Great, Troparion, Tone IV — Emulating the demeanor of the zealous Elijah, and following the Baptist with forthright steps, O father Anthony, thou wast a dweller in the desert, and hast made the whole world steadfast by thy supplications. Wherefore, entreat Christ God, that our souls be saved.
Kontakion, Tone II, "Seeking the highest" — Having cast off the tumults of life, thou didst live a life of stillness to the end, emulating the Baptist in every way, O all-venerable one. Wherefore, we honor thee with him, O Anthony, first among the father
THE HOLY EMPEROR THEODOSIUS THE GREAT (395)
Tumblr media
The Holy Emperor Theodosius the Great during his reign (379-395) delivered a decisive blow to paganism by issuing an edict, under which any sort of service to the pagan gods was considered a violation of the law. The zealous proponent of Orthodoxy promulgated many laws in defense of the Church and against heretics. He convened the Second Ecumenical Council (381).
He ended his life in Milan in 395 at the age of fifty. Saint Theodosius often said that he was more fortunate to be a member of Christ’s holy Church than an emperor.
St. MACARIUS KALOGERAS, HIERODEACON OF PATMOS (1737) (1737).
Tumblr media
He was born to a prosperous family on the island of Patmos. As soon as he was old enough to leave home, he attended the Patriarchal School in Constantinople, where he distinguished himself. He became a monk, then a deacon, but always refused to be ordained to the priesthood, though the Metropolitan of Nikomedia wished Makarios to be his successor. Instead, he returned to Patmos in 1713 and entered the Monastery of St John the Theologian, where he remained until his death.   Though he lived in great asceticism and constant prayer, Saint Makarios was moved by a concern for the salvation and education of the Orthodox people, who often lived in great ignorance, even of their own faith, under Ottoman rule. He established a school in a building adjacent to the monastery and offered courses free of charge to any who could come. Modeling the curriculum on that of the Patriarchal School, he served more as a spiritual father than a worldly professor. The school grew steadily, partly due to generous contributions from a few wealthy Greek families and trade guilds in Constantinople. However, many of the students were very poor and still had to pay for their own needs, and Saint Makarios used his own funds to aid the poorest of them. In addition, he secretly distributed any money that came to him personally to the poor on Patmos. The school at Patmos became famous throughout the Greek Church, and its head became a spiritual father to his students and the Greek nation. Bishops often asked him to write homilies; about sixty were published in book form as The Trumpet of the Gospel, which is still widely read today by the faithful. Having greatly edified thousands while laboring tirelessly for the salvation of his soul, Saint Makarios reposed in peace in 1737.

Hebrews 13:17-21
17 Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. 18 Pray for us; we are confident that we have a good conscience in all things, desiring to live honorably. 19 But I especially urge you to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner. 20 Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luke 6:17-23
17 And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases, 18 as well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed. 19 And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all. 20 Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples and said: Blessed are you poor, For yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are you who hunger now, For you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, For you shall laugh. 22 Blessed are you when men hate you, And when they exclude you, And revile you, and cast out your name as evil, For the Son of Man's sake. 23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.

Watching the BBC adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials Trilogy and realizing they’ve named Billy Costa’s dæmon Ratter…and that there is no Tony Makarios (whose dæmon is named Ratter in the book while Billy’s is unnamed) in this adaptation…and getting a sinking feeling that Billy is going to be the child who dies in this adaptation.
No shade on Tony at all. I just felt that the three boys were important (given the references to Christianity throughout the series). There’s the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; and there’s Tony Makarios (not to be confused with Billy’s elder brother Tony Costa), Billy Costa, and Roger Parslow. Tony is severed from his dæmon and dies for Mrs Coulter’s experiment, Billy is freed and returned to his family, and Roger is severed from his dæmon and dies for Lord Asriel to open a bridge between the worlds.
Each boy’s fate is ultimately decided by a member of Lyra’s family, but, while her parents choose to end Tony’s and Roger’s lives for their own gain, Lyra sets Billy free. It’s her first time fulfilling the prophecy of putting an end to destiny.
I ultimately understand the constraints of filmography, pacing, and feeling like perhaps that’s one too many Tonys to keep track of, but, damn, why you gotta do Ma Costa dirty like that?

Macarro is a surname I can’t find much on other than it’s most prevalent in Spain (considering Ana de Armas is Spanish I think)
According to this website, the first syllable “Mac” means son of, kind of like “Mc” or “O’”. Eve’s father dies/gets murdered and it’s like pretty silly that her last name means “child of” or atleast in the first part of it just characterizes her as a whole as someone’s child.
I don’t know Spain-Spanish (or just spanish general😭) but “Macarro” apparently means bread roll…. so yeah. But colloquially it also means to make fun of someone/tease someone. +there’s a children’s game called “Santo Macarro” (Saint Macarius I think??)
A variation I found is “Macario” which means forunate or supremely blessed which is dervied from the Greek “Makarios” and Latin “Macarius”

THE Kapothistrias has a living ancestor that is an actress??? Wow if it's true it's an interesting fact
Also Mitsotakis is really related to Venizelos?
Haha yeah
So I am gonna make this with pictures instead of the video because I think it's easier this way:
Actress Natalia Kapodistria is great (x4) grand niece (if that's a term) of Ioannis Kapodistrias (1776 - 1831), Governor of Greece, the first and quite probably the best political leader of the independent Hellenic Republic.
Tumblr media
The Notarás family (here, Ioannis and Panoutsos respectively) are descendants of Loukas Notaras (1402 - 1453), the last Great Duke of the Byzantine Empire, and Imperial Minister next to emperors John and Constantine IX Palaelogos. He was beheaded by the Ottoman Turks shortly after the fall of Constantinople. In modern times, the family was notable for fighting in the Greek War of Independence (fatefully, also against the Ottoman Turks). Ioannis died on the battlefield at only 22 years of age (1805 - 1827) whereas Panoutsos (1752 - 1849) survived and became a politician of the independent state. The Notaras family was special enough that it also gave birth to two saints of the Orthodox Church, Saint Yerasimos (1506 - 1579) and Saint Makarios (1731 - 1805), and two Patriarchs of Jerusalem, Dositheos Notaras (1641 - 1707) and Chrysanthos Notaras (1655 - 1731)...! Imagine the flex of being a member of this family huh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now for the jumpscare:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*sigh*
There is a connection through marriage to Venizelos' sister. Current Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis is great (x3) grandson of his sister. So, he's his great (x3) grand nephew. Eleftherios Venizelos (1864 - 1936) was Greece's only political leader who could match Kapodistrias in competence and he is essentially responsible for the quadrupling of Greece's borders.
This TikTok says "part 1" so there will be more but I can already tell you a well known one:
Actress Natalia (again!) Dragoumi is grand niece of Ion Dragoumis (1878 - 1920), important political rival of Eleftherios Venizelos and a revolutionary of the Macedonian Struggle. Dragoumis also had a very interesting personal life that I have made a post about.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I saved the "best" for last. I happen to know a descendant of a Greek Independence war hero. And not just any hero, THE HERO, if you know who I mean. I don't remember the exact relation but I wouldn't get too precise anyway. All I am saying is how you imagine and how the war hero was, the descedant is literally the exact opposite in everything, both in appearance and personality......
