carragher insinuating that afcon isn’t a major tournament and then scoffing when being corrected on sky sports who then removed the clip from youtube loooool the disrespect towards non european football is genuinely institutional. and people are jumping in to defend him as well saying that wasn’t his point and that afcon doesn’t have the same pedigree as the euros or the world cup ‘hence why no african country has won the world cup.’ be serious! african nations have produced so many top footballers with a mere fraction of the facilities (especially west) european countries have. legitimately have a day off man
#don’t think we need white people to determine whether afcon is a major tournament thanks very much#maybe all the top brexiters defending this guy should sit back and think about how england with all the money being pumped into#developing footballers at every level haven’t won the world cup in an embarrassing amount of decades and have never won the euros#england men’s that is i should clarify#edit to add that even if african countries weren’t producing fantastic footballers that would be no reason to disrespect african football#as football is the PEOPLE’S sport all over the world. it’s not always about the top 5 leagues and european countries for fuck’s sake.

"but hamas is getting funded by extremist islamic hate groups!" do you think the U.S. government and military giving funding for israeli's war efforts against palestinians is a morally neutral and inherently righteous body that had no influence in the politics of southwest asia as a global colonial superpower. do you really think anything you can say about the people resisting oppression can't be said about the oppressors.
#brieuc.txt#palestine#this isnt me justifying it but it is me pointing out the double standard how hamas' funding is antithetical to the freedom movement#but the u.s.' influence and financial support is completely fine and doesnt need to be brought up at all#''hamas doesnt have the best interests of palestinian people'' may be true but the alternative is not allowing an apartheid state to exist#also its a ridiculous thing to say because thats a common thing in most countries#neo-nazi groups r a major problem in the Ukraine military but nobody questions ukraine's right for freedom.#the double standards keep on piling up#im not saying you cant criticise these groups but is it criticism or is it propaganda#are you talking abt how war radicalises and changes n traumatises people or are you implying every palestinian is a dirty terrorist#etc#and do you understand that in an active war zone n worlds largest open air prison violence is guaranteed and is brutal.#or do you think that if the people with no electricity and water just Werent So Stubborn And Talked everything would be okay?#and do you consider white people fighting for freedom martyrs but brown people doing the same terrorists

Soooooo.... Natlan trailer huh This is just beyond me at this point. The fact that Iansan, the ONLY character with darker skin -- and even saying that is pushing it because she is quite literally GREY -- shows up for a lousy 3 seconds max? A pyro region based in Latin and African cultures. A pyro region with characters who represent many different beliefs embedded in Latin and African cultures. A pyro region with its Archon being straight up PALE. WHITE. Hoyo has always done this but this is genuinely so upsetting and I am speechless. Their colorism is astonishing.
And for the people that defend Hoyo and say some blatantly wrong shit, get ur head out of ur ass girl. Hoyo is not trying to sneak lgbt themes into their game by making everyone white (YES I DID SEE THIS AS AN ARGUMENT). Hoyo is not trying to specifically cater to their CN and JP audiences. Hoyo is, like I've mentioned before, a colorist company that simply REFUSES to make dark skinned characters BECAUSE of their colorism.
#genshin impact#genshin#natlan#and to mention i am latina. a white latina#however a majority of my family are very tanned dark skinned who live in latin countries#i dont want to even SEE “well not every hispanic/whatever is dark skinned!!!”#SHUT THE FUCK UP#THESE CHARACTERS/THIS REGION IS BASED ON PRE-COLONIZATION PEOPLES#THERE WERE NO WHITE PEOPLE IN THESE REGIONS#but whatever#fuck hoyo#djshjdhsjahdjdhs

something about the tiktok ban that i haven't really seen people here talking about is the experience of tiktok users not from the usa, which was, as far as i can tell, on the whole, very positive. it was actually really nice to, for a short period of time, be on a major social media network and able to interact with people across the world without usamericans constantly inserting themselves into every conversation.
usamericans kind of take over people's fyp regardless of where you're from. this is partly to do with the fact that the creators fund is only available to usamericans so most of the shitty content farms are from the us. then there's also the cultural aspect of the fact that being a citizen of the most powerful empire in the world is a significant privilege, and also a privilege that 99% of usamericans are seemingly unable to acknowledge, plus the us centrism and exceptionalism, plus the constant need to cast themselves as the underdog, and, well. it's annoying.
so, like. everything of what i've seen (which is not to say that other opinions don't exist, just that i haven't seen them) is that it was really nice when the usamericans were gone, and it kind of sucks that they're back.
#tiktok ban#<- for those who are (very justifiably) sick of hearing about this#anyway also important to note that 99% of what ive seen has been from europeans canadians and australians#and i can guess that for people from asian african and south american countries it was probably just their feed being taken over by#other annoying english speakers rather than usamericans#and the 'commonwealth tiktok' thing (especially the fact that its referring to specifically uk canada and australia#and NO OTHER COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES)#is uh. not great!#so im not saying like. magical utopia where everyone was equal#but im just saying that. idk there is no global major social media that isn't overrun with usamericans#and for about a day there was#anyway would be cool to hear from other non-usamericans!#especially if you're not european nor from from a european settler state#question is there a specific word/phrase that would include the citizens of countries like the usa/canada/australia/etc#but not the indigenous people of those places?#and no just saying white doesnt work because in those countries non-indigenous minority ethnic groups are still there under#the authority of a colonial government#and also im talking about privilege along the axis of nationality here as opposed to race/ethnicity#and the question of nationality gets complicated when we're talking about specifically the indigenous people of#an area currently controlled by a settled colonial state#ALSO also in regards to the fact that the whole thing was a trump propaganda stunt#and that there's now censorship of things trump doesnt like#its yet another example of how everyone else in the world gets directly affected by us politics#despite the fact that in this case the social media isnt even a us company#and not to say that it doesnt also suck for usamericans#many of whom voted for harris#but also. at least you got a vote.#the rest of us just have to live with the fact that whoever you guys elect will have a direct impact on our lives#and usamericans just don't experience this. like e.g. british elections have no impact on your lives#but your elections have a massive impact on our lives (and even worse for countries in the global south)

not to be obnoxious on main but classic literature is not global literature. it's western literature at best
#not to vague but like. name one book from my country i dare you guys.#sorry this set of posts just makes me so fucking mad. like i'm also guilty of this because my ass can't speak any other language but#books of importance from other countries outside of the western hemisphere. especially if theyre in a language which is not english#go largely ignored by the western world at large despite their importance to their countries of origin#and its a double standard to have to expect to know like. for the most part the literature of native english-speaking or european#countries. when i'm certain a lot of these people don't know any of our literature or their importance to us#its so fucking pretentious. like i wont say im not guilty of it as a monolingual english speaker so that list of classic literature#is whats most accessible to me but like christ. get your head out of your ass. they didnt even say something bad about the book. holy fuck#sorry im just so fucking pissed. and i know these people are white or some form of american canadian whatever#im not denying the importance of the book in question its just Your Experiences Are Not Universal. why dont you respect our literature#before demanding the same respect for 'yours'#'uhh but i didnt know about those bools and their history-' YEAH BECAUSE THEY DIDNT HAPPEN IN YOUR PART OF THE WORLD. ITS THE SAME OVER HERE#BUT IM NOT CALLING YOU OUT FOR IT AM I? EVEN THOUGH THOSE BOOKS ARE THE CENTER OF A MAJOR HISTORICAL EVENT IN MY COUNTRY#im so pissed.#woe be upon ye

this especially goes for americans but just bc back home you're a hyphenated american doesn't mean us who stayed where we are consider you american first and foremost, before whatever's before the hyphen
also when will ppl understand that diaspora identities r inherently different than. idk whats the opposite of diaspora is. local? identities. like obv a. idfk. 6th gen irish-american is gonna have a different ethnic n cultural identity n experiences w being irish than irish ppl in ireland lol
#esp the difference between an ethnic/racial identity that is a majority in the home country n a minority in the diaspora or vice versa#or like historically w irish americans specifically marginalized indigenous ppl in ireland but white settlers in america#(not that far back tho bc irish ppl werent considered white for a WHILE)#asks#anon

"i'm making a thread comparing daenerys targaryen and cleopatra to show how amazing dany is" well which is it, do you wanna show how amazing she is or compare her to cleopatra, because doing the latter is not the slay you think it is
#personal#'i am going to compare dany to someone who is best know exclusively for her relationship with men'#'and whose major contribution to history is being the last of her white colonizer dynasty who fucks up so bad'#'that not only is she the last of her line but the fuckup directly leads to her country not being able to be its own independent nation'#'until the 20th century even tho she died almost two thousand years ago'#like if you DO think dany's arc is gonna end like cleopatra sure i guess#but seems an odd choice for a 'dany on the iron throne' truther to take#(i know this seems mean about cleopatra but like......i am ambivalent at best towards the girlie you guys know that)#(there's like a hundred more interesting egyptian queens that i wanna talk about)#(rather than retreading the story of her lily white ass for the thousandth godforsaken time)#(and obviously when it comes to the conflict between her and octavian anyone who knows me knows who i'm picking)#also this is mostly just yet another vague about TB twitter not knowing shit and being dumb as hell#because this was obviously a TB account for some reason the algorithm seems determined to show me their nonsense#no matter how many times i mute and make it clear i barely wanna see ANY hotd/asoiaf takes#let alone something from 'team anti-feminism who can't read'

Mister Merchant, can I just say that from your post, I admire your choice of words to insult people (ik you're not really insulting, but... I'm just saying that I love the string of words that you use xD
Thanks haha 😅
I think some of it stems from the fact that the culture I belong to/was raised in is full of very... colorful language and ways to refer to/speak about others lol. In essence, I grew up in a society of wordsmiths (more talented than I, trust me I've heard way worse shit than anything I've said about anyone or anything on here), many of whom have extremely short tempers and are not afraid to insult you to your face
Also... idk, I think I just happen to know a lot of insults and turns of phrase and things like that due to being a lifelong bookworm. I've picked up the vast majority of my vocabulary from the books I've read throughout my life (and I've got a lot of very long and "difficult" books under my belt). Just a consequence of being a grumpy nerd lol
#I don't really want to say what I am exactly#my family and I are non-white minorities in a white majority country. our real homeland is not English-speaking. I'll leave it there haha#I'll admit it gets a little frustrating for me sometimes bc there are things I want to say that I can't/don't know how to say in English#some things just don't translate and it sucks. I love English but I love my mother tongue just as much#anyway. I'm glad my choice of words made you laugh haha#merchant asks

do you guys know about the brazilian woman who trafficked babies to be adopted by israelis in the 80's?
#like you cannot divorce this behavior from other western countries#the way the global south is exclusively places where they can plunder whatever they want from#and how majority of the babies were white and had white European features too

this is fucking insane??? how are you gonna mock people who recognize that Hamas is a fucking terrorist organization, then acknowledge that the hostages exist (a very low bar that so many ppl fail to meet) while also claiming that calling for the hostages to be returned is a bad thing???
#and the way i can't say anything when this person says things that are explicitly xenophobic and/or antisemitic#bc they're the server owner#and i don't wanna get kicked bc there's other ppl (not this person) who i legitimately enjoy interacting with?#also israel literally *is* the only full democracy in the middle east#(cyprus has a slightly higher freedom index score than israel but it's generally considered part of europe even though it's geographically#in the middle east)#the economist democracy index considers israel to be a “flawed democracy” rather than a “full democracy”#but it's only 0.2 pts away from being a “full democracy” based on the 2023 results#the vast majority of other MENA countries are rated as being “authoritarian”#the EDI doesn't have tunisia as a democracy but some other indices consider it to be one#although that's irrelevant if we're only talking about the ME since tunisia is in north africa#she also uses the term “iof” so i honestly don't give a shit about her opinions as a non-muslim or arab goyische white european @ this point

sorry still angry at the people clowning in the notes of the protest poll. 1) it is okay to talk about attending protests in a nonspecific way on tumblr dot com. you will not be arrested for this. in fact I would say it’s actively good to talk about to encourage others to get involved, which is clearly necessary! 2) if you don’t know about protests happening until after they’ve happened, maybe demonstrate some agency and find out how they get organized? a lot of protests are organized on social media if you know who to follow. if you go to one you can talk to people and find out about more. 3) going to rallies (as opposed to direct actions/sit ins etc) is not necessarily about enacting change in that very moment. it’s about demonstrating to the authorities that there is a groundswell of support for the cause in question, that there is a large number of people ready to mobilize if, say, the people doing the more risky actions get arrested. please learn to value expressions of solidarity over instant gratification.
#this isn’t directed at disabled people or people in countries where peaceful rallies are more dangerous than in the US#but we know the majority of tumblr users are white americans sooo#the first point is actually the most annoying to me like if your response to a vague discussion about attending protests#is “what are you a cop” I’m going to assume you haven’t actually been to any protests
