Jun Wu was so single mindedly focused, he manipulated so many people and brought so much death, destruction, and despair to ruin Xie Lian's life and to turn him into a Calamity like himself. It's the dedication to the bit for me, he wiped everything from his disastrous past and became emperor of heaven. Jun Wu had all of the heavenly court fooled and under his thumb for centuries and played the part of the caring mentor/father figure to Xie Lian all while gladly placing the cursed shackles on him.

Submissions: Character of all time. He's done a lot of crimes, but I'll just mention that one time he put a guy in a cage, poured boiling water on him, and sliced off his skin piece by piece while he was still alive.

It’s just. So much.

junlian batb au where prince xl stumbles upon a forgotten kingdom beneath the earth, all it's inhabitants cursed. He finds the castle only for the ruler to lock him away, forces him to be his guest.

The king wears a white mask and his body completely enshrouded in white robes.

He doesn't mistreat xl but he does grow enraged whenever he expresses a wish to leave. His rage is cold, quiet, voiced almost like chiding a child.

But xl knows it for what it is.

One day, xl investigates the west wing, wear he's forbidden to enter.

He peeks inside the king's chambers. A hand over his mouth silences the gasp that tries to leave him.

Before the king sits at a mirror, back to him, his body bare. Across his skin are dozens of little faces, their mouths moving ceaselessly, expressions in prolonged agony and despair.

In the scratched bronze mirror, xl can see even the king's face is not spared these horrors.

"Be silent!" the king hissed. Its only then xl realizes the little sounds he heard were not the wind whistling through the window but the faces wailing. They quiet.

"Because of you… Because of you I cannot show him my face." the king lifts his hand, removing the white gloves he always wore to reveal another face. He seethes at it.

"I cannot even touch him without a layer of cloth between us."

Unlike his cold anger he focused at xl, what he now knew was restraint, the king flies into a fury. He knocks the items off the desk, smashes the mirror on to the ground, rips the low stool he sat upon to splinters.

xl retreats a step on reflex and the many-faced man in the room locks eyes with him.

Horror passes over the main face, a heartbreaking horror. When xl leaves the door, the king follows, grabs him by the wrist. He moves so fast!

"You can't leave! You can't! This is your home, you belong to me!"

It's as much a demand as it is a plea.

xl struggles on instinct, his years of training kicking in. Then he takes a deep breath, calms himself. He relaxes in the king's hold.

A bit of pain matters not to him.

"How long have you been here, alone?" he asks, gazing far upwards into eyes silvery white and wide as the full moon. "You never answered that question."

"Too long, too long!" the king bellows. "That's why you will stay."

"I will."

The king startles, uncertain how to react to this. It's clear he expected revulsion, resistance. He loosens his grip on xl until the other slips free.

But xl doesn't retreat. He closes the distance between them, reaching up.

Inquisitively, he caresses the twisted faces, smiles as they calm under his touch.

The king kneels, bringing his massive body closer. He seems nearly docile as xl touches each face in turn.

Once he returns to face him, xl is smiling and the king has no words.

"So this is what you were hiding. Your majesty thinks very little of me if he feels these will frighten me away."

"You're a liar," the king hisses hoarsely.

"I am no liar," xl says in a frim tone. "The only thing I find repulsive is how you treat me like an object."

"You are mine. We were destined for each other--"

"Then why hold me so tightly? Why hide from me?"

the king rises to his full height, a shadow cast over xl.

"Why would a prince from afar stay in this rotten kingdom?" he demands, voice reverberating off the walls.

"Remove this shackle from my neck. Let me stay under my own violation."

"So you can return back from where you came? I am no fool!"

xl smiles sadly.

"I can return to the surface but I can never go home again. It's no longer there."

In the king's silence, xl asks him, softly, "Do you think a rotten kingdom is better than none at all?"

"You called yourself a prince."

xl bows his head, the smile deepening as does the wistful look in his eyes.

"I did. I cannot let it go just yet."

"Stay," the king hisses again, drawing close again.

His clawed fingers brush the black shackle on xl's neck, the markings glowing briefly before they fade.

"Stay."

And this time, it is consolation and plea both.

xl nods, taking hold of the large clawed hand with both of his own.

"I will."

I don't care that much about spoilers so sometimes I come across one by accident which would have been nice to not have been spoiled on but it's not that big of a deal and sometimes I spoil myself on purpose (there are faves of mine I wouldn't have started/continued if I hadn't gotten spoiled about something I thought would be interesting) and sometimes being spoiled on something gives me mildly to wildly wrong ideas about the story and how things get to that point and/or continue after it that it turns into a whole other experience.

And then wrote TGCF about it.

Au where wei wuxian post revival manages to slip away and start a new life, most likely a normal and easy one as a farmer, and lan wangji asks to stay the night at his place while out nighthunting completely unaware that it's wei wuxian yet. Everything's going fine but lan wangji can't help but feel a whole mix of emotions due to how similar this man is to wei wuxian and wei wuxian is busy freaking out because lan wangji is in his house. It all comes to a stop when, while doing some menial task, wei wuxian starts humming wangxian and lan wangji just looks at him like "....huh?" While wei wuxian is blissfully unaware. Cue wangxian hijinks where wei wuxian is thinking he's doing such a good job at hiding his identity (he's not) and lan wangji is eternally confused but completely dead set on staying with wei wuxian.
