Well the Acro Trip anime just solidifies how I felt about the manga, it's so goddamn flimsy. The series never manages to go beyond the superficial and that's a shame because if Sawata could have actually committed to having something slightly deeper behind the gags the whole thing might have landed very differently - for me, anyway.

At least this week I can also relive something good in the Magilumiere anime, I guess. Not sure how the actual animation will stack up, but the story at least has something of value to say about work in the 21st century even if the magical girl elements veer non-traditional.

Plus Kana-chi remains adorable in all formats.

Best of the Best: Severely Underappreciated Modern Magical Girl Anime and Manga/Asian Animation!

As a massive magical girl nerd who has high standards in media, I like to see shows where magical girls kick ass and learn something meaningful along the way. However, certain shows can be drowned out by other more far popular media on nowadays, a common sight to see when these projects explore the genre in very interesting directions and actually flesh out their cast while the top rated stuff remain stagnant in story without much real character development. That's why I want to shine a spotlight on the many forgotten and obscure titles that have popped up over the years (The ones I will be listing here are from the 2000s to present day). As per my standards, this list will not feature any works that have any of the following elements: Heavy amounts of gore and violence, age gap romances (implied and overt), incest, mass kill offs of both main and side cast members, unnecessary sexualization of minors and the plot taking a turn that wrecks both the characters and narrative in the end.

Ichi Kotoko has revealed the 5th (and final) Majo Kaitou LIP☆S volume cover here on Twitter. Unsurprisingly, the illustration features Star Scarlet in all her witchy glory. The book goes on sale in Japan on July 13th, 2021.
