The UN Truce Observers investigated [the Majd al-Krum] massacre half-heartedly. Their reports can be found in UN file 'Atrocities'. They ceased to do similar investigations as there were 'too many and they had no time to investigate'.

A Palestinian woman was arrested in Majd Al Krum, Israel on Wednesday for a social media post she made about Israel's actions in Gaza. Rasha Harami is an Israeli citizen who posted her "solidarity with Palestinians being bombed by Israel in Rafah," following the bombing and subsequent fire of a refugee settlement that killed almost 50 civilians. Her posts also criticized prime minister Netanyahu, saying he should resign.
In a video of her arrest taken by her friend and posted on X, Harami is shown being blindfolded and zip tied at the wrists by Israeli police before being taken into custody. While she has been released, Harami is reportedly still under house arrest. Even if this was a legitimate arrest, which it clearly is not, this treatment is inexcusable. Beyond being degrading, this type of behavior from the Israeli state is an intimidation tactic to suppress the speech and activism of those within the state sympathetic to Palestinian liberation, and is consistent with violence and repression of Palestinians in Israel and the West Bank since October 7.

Crime wave in Israel’s Arab towns exposes rift with police MAJD AL-KRUM, Israel (AP) — In the week since three men were killed in a midday shootout in an Arab town in northern Israel, the country has seen mass protests, complaints of police negligence and a public debate about violence in Arab communities that has veered into racist generalizations.

The Arab sector shot down on Thursday in lieu of a national strike. Thousands marched to protest violence in the Arab-Israeli communities. 68 Arab-Israelis have been murdered in 2019 alone. They marches in Majd el-Kurum, where two days earlier thousands had attended the funeral of two Arab-Israeli brothers who had died on the streets in a brawl. Arabs are blaming Netanyahu for the influx of weapons in the Arab communities although this has been rejected by authorities. It will be interesting to see how the Arabs play into the election and if they will be able to make any change with either Netanyahu or Gantz if Rivlin mandates them to start a government.

Israelis Split on Boycott of Umm el-Faham

Israelis Split on Boycott of Umm el-Faham
Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman. (Miriam Alster/Flash90)
Israelis are split over whether or not to lop Umm el-Faham off “Israel proper” and transfer it to the Palestinian Authority, according to a poll taken by Panorama Marketing on behalf of Yisrael Beytenu. According to the poll, 41.9 percent of Israelis are opposed to the idea of boycotting the Arabs of Wadi Ara, while 40.9 percent are in favor. The rest couldn’t decide.
In an interview earlier in December, Yisrael Beytenu head Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman urged Israelis to “boycott Umm el-Faham” and “make clear to residents of Wadi Ara that they are not wanted here.”
Liberman made the comments in the wake of weekend rioting in Wadi Ara, the largely Arab area in northern Israel where three people on a bus were injured by rock-throwing Arabs in demonstrations against the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump that he recognized Yerushalayim as Israel’s capital.
Hundreds of Arabs demonstrated on Road 65, which runs through Wadi Ara, throwing rocks and stones at vehicles. Rioters targeted a bus in a rock attack, injuring a driver and two passengers. Rioters also blocked the road for several minutes. Smaller demonstrations took place in the Israeli Arab communities of Majd al-Krum, Taibe, Kafr Kana, and in Haifa. United Arab List MKs participated in several of the demonstrations.
“I have seen many Palestinian flags there, but I never saw an Israeli flag,” Liberman said of Wadi Ara. “With that level of hate and incitement, they belong under the control of Ramallah. I call on all Israeli citizens to boycott them. Do not enter their stores, do not buy from them. We must make them feel unwanted.”
Liberman has long sought to separate Wadi Ara from Israel proper. Liberman’s Yisrael Beytenu has promoted a peace plan that would see Israel annex Jewish communities in Yehudah and Shomron, in exchange for a land swap – that would see Umm el-Faham and other Wadi Ara communities, which border Palestinian Authority controlled areas, be transferred to the PA. The plan would not entail removing anyone from their homes, but rather moving the security fence that runs east of Umm el-Faham and other communities to the west side of town.
The poll also asked voters how they would vote if elections were held now. The poll showed the Likud getting 24 seats in new elections, followed by Yesh Atid with 19, Zionist Camp with 17, the United Arab List with 13, Jewish Home with 10, Yisrael Beytenu with 9, United Torah Judaism with 8, Kulanu and Meretz with 7 each, and Shas with 6.

Palestinian Christian from Bethlehem wins wildly popular ‘Arab Idol’ song contest
By William Booth, Washington Post, February 26, 2017
BETHLEHEM, West Bank--Thousands gathered in the holy city’s Manger Square late Saturday night to watch one of their own win the “Arab Idol” song contest, the wildly popular ratings monster that brings the Middle East to a standstill as millions tune in.
The winner was Yacoub Shaheen, a Palestinian and member of Bethlehem’s small community of Christian Assyrians.
The glitzy talent show on Dubai’s MBC1 is based on the British show Pop Idol and its American cousin. Viewers use their mobile phones to vote via text message and winnow down the contestants, who began singing their hearts out in weekly installments, heavy on backstory, back in November.
The streets of Bethlehem were packed with cars brandishing flags supporting Shaheen and blasting his pop songs from stereo speakers. The coffee shops and shisha cafes were filled with cheering viewers. Local youths had tagged the sides of buildings with graffiti reading “Suryoyo,” for “Assyrian” in the ancient language of Aramaic.
At Manger Square, just steps from the Byzantine-era Church of the Nativity, built above a cave where the faithful believe Jesus was born, crowds filled the plaza to watch the fourth season’s climax on a jumbo screen.
Saturday night’s finale featured a three-way showdown between Shaheen and the Yemeni crooner Ammar Mohammed and Ameer Dandan, a Palestinian from the Arab village of Majd al-Krum in Israel’s Galilee.
After winning, Shaheen came on stage at the studio theater in Beirut, wearing the Palestinian flag around his shoulders. He sang a patriotic anthem with the lyrics: “My pledge and my oath, my blood is Palestinian,” Reuters reported.
Shaheen follows in the footsteps of the 2013 “Arab Idol” winner, Mohammed Assaf, from a Palestinian refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, who is now one of the biggest stars in the Arab World.
