I find it so funny that Zutaras, for generations, wrote entire think pieces about how Mai is:

1. Too Apolitical and apathetic to be a Firelady

2. Completely selfish and always acting in her own best interest

3. Would only hinder Zuko’s progress as a Firelord

All in attempt to diminish her character and try and prove Katara of all people would be a better Firelady.

Now we have CANON to confirm that Mai is fearless and a staunch advocate for undoing years of fire nation propaganda. And that she’s willing to drop everything to help Zuko in a noble cause - including teaching a new generation of kids the truth about the hundred year war.

I know this is probably an authors note but I find this panel of Ursa talking about "Back in smoke and shadow" like she read the book

I wonder though if it was another character that said "She's my sister-- I have to be nice to her" would Zuko still pull the Azula example??

I hate this argument because it reminds of how some radfems argue that oppressed women should be in solidarity with their oppressors solely because they are female. It blatantly ignores how oppression works and white women historically excluding women of color from their feminism even though women of color face as much, if not more, misogyny as them. Not to mention how white women were often the main perpetrators of racism.

I don't understand the hate for the upcoming comic.

I thought we wanted mai to get more agency outside of her and zukos' relationship.

We always talk about zukos' growth from his wrongdoings and how he acknowledged the fire nation imperialism, and now they're exploring that through mai but it's somehow wrong?

"Oh but in the previous comics..." was written by a man with heavy influence of bryke and now we have a woman writer that's more open to writing her own things. I thought this is what we wanted? We all know the older comics were horribly written and the new comics, which may not be perfect, are significantly better.
