Sangheili Bracket Round 3 Match 7
More info below:
Mahkee 'Chava:
Debuted in Halo 5: Guardians (voice only)
A Sangheili shipmistress within the Swords of Sanghelios, she was present during the final battles of the Blooding Years civil war during Oct. 2553. She would be the one to pick up and drop off Fireteam Osiris when they first arrived at Sanghelios, continuing to give them support and information as they battled Covenant forces on their way to meet with the Arbiter Thel 'Vadam. Once they finally met up with the Arbiter, she would pick them up and take them to a nearby SOS military base. Later, she took part in the Battle of Sunaion, once again offering Osiris support via deploying forces that aided them. However, she could not ferry them to their target of the Guardian, but instead informed them of a passage they could take to reach it.
Additional commentary: Her relationship to Oebrin and Silset 'Chava - the weaponsmith brothers mentioned in lore - is unknown, but some people believe they're her sons. Also, thanks to doing this tourney, I realized the similarities between the 'Chava name and Arbiter Fal 'Chavamee's name. Either a separate 'Chavam name exists, or Fal might be a distant ancestor to Mahkee. Surprised I haven't seen it brought up before.
Henry:
Debuted in Halo: Evolutions ("The Mona Lisa")
Real name unknown, he was one of the Sangheili captured and brought on board the Mona Lisa for study purposes. When attempts to study the Flood on the ship went wrong and caused an outbreak, he would break free from captivity and save fellow prisoner Patrick Rimmer, who would stay by his side and nickname him "Henry". For days the duo survived by holing up in a maintenance room, with Henry's main weapon being a cricket bat. When the Red Horse arrived to investigate, some marines would find and team up with the duo, which included Ngoc Benti. Henry would save Benti from the Flood on two occasions, causing her to trust the Sangheili enough to allow him access to an assault rifle. A bit later, she would be injured, causing Henry to carry her the rest of the way to the ship's escape pods. Once there, however, a secret ONI operative would kill Rimmer, enraging Henry. Some conflict would cut the remaining numbers of people wishing to escape Mona Lisa to Henry and Sergeant Lopez. With room for only one of them on the last escape pod and thirty seconds until the entire ship would be destroyed by Red Horse, Henry and Lopez would begin a duel with no known outcome. Despite the unknown, though, Henry is likely to have perished - either by the explosion or by the nearby UNSC refusing to aid him.

That’s not too far from the idea I had.
Funny you should mention female warriors being a Very New Thing, because that’s why the Arbiter thinks Chyler would be an excellent candidate for this brainchild of his. He taps her to do a stint under Mahkee Chava, the female Sangheili from Halo 5. Lasky is not exactly enthusiastic about sending his bride to a Sangheili cruiser alone for however long and, in a great illustration of why spouses would never be allowed in the same chain of command, he and Chyler get into a minor spat about it. He ultimately relents because Chyler IS the best choice and Tom did not survive the last 25+ years by ignoring the “happy wife, happy life” maxim. I haven’t had time to go much into the meat of it, and Mr this is what I’d need you for. However, I do have ideas about Chyler and Mahkee bonding over men being the same no matter the species. And everything on the ship is built for 8’ tall Sangheili so some of the crew take to giving Chyler piggyback rides anytime she needs to reach something.
Oh. Lasky calls up Chyler to see how she’s doing a week or so in and Chyler comments they don’t have coffee on the ship. Lasky says “Well, that explains why they lost the war.” 🤣
Headcanon away everyone.
Thinking about appropriating the Federation/Klingon officer exchange program in TNG for Halo and making it the humans and Sangheili.
It’s at once a smashing success and unmitigated disaster, a thread that seems to run through many of my plot bunnies.

A new Halo audio drama! This one focusing on the Swords of Sanghelios (and some Spartans) fighting the Banished on Suban, the Blood-Moon of Sanghelios! And we get more of Mahkee 'Chava, which is awesome!
THIS is what I want out of Halo, 343! More of this! I demand more!

I finally got through Saturn Devouring His Son by listening to it while getting my clock cleaned by the Anjanath in the Ancient Forest yesterday. (It was okay, I thought. Me vs the Anjanath was not.)
I will probably do the same thing with Battle for the Blood Moon.
(I sometimes get this sticking point with reading where I am just not in the headspace to want to get to know New Guys and I gotta unstick myself by force. It does help that I am already very motivated to know anything about Mahkee Chava.)

Conversation
"Who broke it?" but it's the Swords of Sanghelios
Thel: So. Who broke it? I'm not mad, I just wanna know.
Rhu: ...I did. I broke it.
Thel: No. No you didn't. Vari?
Vari: Don't look at me. Look at Cham.
Cham: What?! I didn't break it.
Vari: Huh, that's weird. How'd you even know it was broken?
Cham: Because it's sitting right in front of us and it's broken.
Vari: Suspicious.
Cham: No it's not!
Dimkee: If it matters, probably not, but Mahkee was the last one to use it.
Mahkee: Liar! I don't even drink that crap!
Dimkee: Oh really? Then what were you doing by the coffee cart earlier?
Mahkee: I use the wooden stirrers to push back my cuticles. Everyone knows that, Dimkee!
Rhu: Okay let's not fight. I broke it. Let me pay for it, Thel.
Thel: No! Who broke it!?
Cham: Thel...Rtas has been awfully quiet.
Rtas: REALLY?!
Everyone but Thel: *arguing*
Thel: *turning to Osiris* I broke it. It burned my hand so I punched it. I predict 10 minutes from now they'll be at each other's throats with warpaint on their faces and a colo head on a stick.
Thel: Good. It was getting a little chummy around here.

Red’s voice is extremely deep. Not nearly as deep as Yellow’s or Black’s, but she’s definitely got some boom in her. Madge Sinclair (Sarabi from the lion king) only a few octaves deeper. This voice is typically only heard by her paladins, as she isn’t as keen on sharing it with those outside of the circle. Those outside of her pride are treated to the chopped and screwed ‘glitch voice’ that sounds like it’s straight out of a horror movie. She knows the voice is scary, she likes it. It’s empowering.

by BadriyahBlackfire
"Much of what I see from my past is the violent mood swings of my mother. She was abusive in a verbal sense. My father never let her touch us. She was ashamed of her children and being with my father. We grew up underground, away from the bustling streets of Oslo. My father is Sangheili. He has trained us in the ways of his people and has trained us in the human ways as well. We are dangerous, but we wish for peace. My name is Eira Manefjell, daughter of Xavu 'Nrarom and Lycoris Manefjell. I am an assassin employed by the Oslo Assassination Association, and I will hunt down my mother. I will make her pay for killing my son." Eira to Rtas 'Vadum

Halo 6: Retconions
Hobo Chief fights the writing team, wins, and resurrects the Didact to return to the original plot.
Cortana gets to rest in peace, rather than pieces. They have a nice funeral (Buck cries) and the Guardians go back to bed.
Locke and Hobo Chief bro-hug it out.
Team mechanics return with Blue Team and Osiris, but now theres also an all-sanghieli team with Arbiter, Usze ‘Taham, N’tho ‘Sraom and Mahkee ‘Chava and another team with the members of Red Team (wait theres only 3 of them,,,uh shoot put Jun in there too. Or Palmer. Or Romeo. Or Thorne). Everyone gets some nice characterization and plenty of lines.
The Banished are there to be a fresh take on the “obligatory covenant faction”
Jul ‘Mdama is there, has a cutscene mourning his deceased body double, and then gets a proper boss battle.
They all have a sick party to celebrate the fixing of the canon. Roland breakdances and everyone claps, even newly resurrected Didact. Tanaka spikes the punch bowl. Exuberant Witness is there and has a fun time partying with everyone. Everyone has a good time and all is well.

You know the fact Sanghelios and Hoshido are both based on feudal Japan has made me legit think of Sangheili Hoshido Royal AU before.
Like Ryoma as a young fresh Kaidon everyone underestimates, who is a master swordsman and probably still has some ridiculous helmet
Hinoka being like Mahkee Chava and being a SoS pilot wanting to prove that women can fight and being a bit too eager about it.
Takumi as one of the best damn snipers in the SoS but constantly underappreciated and treated like crap and has a complex of being less of a warrior then his brother, because his skills are less “honorable”
And Sakura as the baby who was kind of young when the Covenant dissolved, and grew up with the changing social climate on Sanghelios and who has A LOT of interest in taking an apprenticeship as a doctor, but is really afraid her family will dissaprove.
And Corrin is like...some egg that got stolen IDK.

Mahkee v Crei ficlet
"Did you think a rat could so easily get into Vadam state unnoticed?"
At the sound of the feminine voice, Crei turned and watched a figure emerge from the darkness. It was an armored Sangheili woman, bearing the colors of the Swords of Sanghelios. But he had been so sure to keep an eye out for any guards, and this didn't seem like the Varo Rangers he'd previously seen in action. Upon catching a scent in the air, however, he soon realized how he had been caught off guard.
"So you have a knack for stealth craft, pilot?" he mused, fully facing her. "To whom do I owe the pleasure?"
Her mandibles tightened, containing a growl. "An Oath Warden with your talents can easily deduce my identity, after you have left."
"And for what reason do I have, to enter Vadam state? Perhaps I am merely walking by?"
"Do not bother. The Arbiter has already briefed us enough regarding you, 'Ayomuu. You would be wise to never show your face around here again."
Truthfully, Mahkee 'Chava had been told to add: "Unless you have some pressing information to pass on, like before." But in her opinion, the Oath Warden had already been useful once due to extremely unique circumstances. Even then, it was a taxing, arduous "aid" he had given. There was no value in getting tangled up with him again. This, she was certain of. The Arbiter was only extending a minuscule olive branch on the off-chance any more extremely unique circumstances reared its ugly head; but even that seemed to be out of reluctance.
Crei, intuiting some of this on his own, feigned insult. "So the humble Arbiter would give me the cold shoulder? After all I did for him, and for the galaxy, back at N'ba?"
"The Arbiter treats his allies well. To this I can personally attest, and I am sure you are well aware even without hearing testimony. So you know very well how appreciative he is about your conduct at N'ba." With a harsh snort, she added, "And I can still smell the Banished stench on you."
"They offered me a safe ride. Of course I would take it. And someone had to make the harsh decisions, in the tough situation we were in. On reflection, he surely should have realized I meant no actual harm - and that I was right."
"If rubbing your stinking ideology into the Arbiter's vicinity is your business, then you might as well go." Her arm darted to point in the direction away from Vadam's borders. "Even if it was not, you might as well go."
"As I have said, I merely was walking by." Still, he twisted on his feet towards the same direction she was pointing, keeping an eye on Mahkee the entire time. "But I see how it is. I shall keep a wide berth from now on."
"I expect you to keep that oath, Warden."

Sangheili Bracket Round 2 Match 13

Voro Nar 'Mantakree:
Debuted in Halo: Ghosts of Onyx
Born June 9th, 2487, he would rise to the rank of Major and be assigned to the Incorruptible. During the Flood outbreak on High Charity, the Incorruptible's shipmaster - Tano 'Inanraree - would delusionally believe that the Flood were masterpieces of gods and attempted to get everyone on the ship infected. Before he could, however, Voro would kill him with a Needler - something which should have had him killed as heresy, but instead the entire crew agreed it had to be done and held him up as the new shipmaster. Meanwhile, Incorruptible would be attacked by the Jiralhanae-commanded Tenebrous and Twilight Compunction, causing Voro to use Lawgiver as a shield in the ensuing space battle. Tenebrous would be destroyed whilst Twilight Compunction made a temporary retreat, allowing Voro to continue attempted to eliminate any Flood-controlled ships whilst briefly creating a short truce between the Sangheili and Jiralhanae to deal with the parasite. Once the Jiralhanae attacked again, Voro ordered Incorruptible to make a slipspace jump to escape the "madness". They would arrive at the world Joyous Exultation, intercepting a wayward transmission regarding Spartans taking control of Jiralhanae ship Bloodied Spirit. Then, Voro would take part in a meeting organized by Imperial Admiral Xytan 'Jar Wattinree, expressing the opinion that the Flood were the most dire threat and the parasite could not be allowed to escape Halo. His dissent should have had him killed, but Xytan instead acknowledged the Flood threat. Next in the meeting, an intercepted transmission would be played, revealing that Spartans had been responsible for the destruction of the first discovered Halo Ring. Gaining the addition of "Nar" to his name, Voro was appointed Fleet Master of the Second Fleet of Homogenous Clarity and instructed to go to Onyx to protect the relics there and kill the Spartans present. His fleet left just in time to escape a sudden detonation of a NOVA bomb, destroying a majority of the ships above Joyous Exultation and killing Xytan in the process. Arriving at Onyx, they would make contact with the Forerunner Sentinels there, who then denied them access to the shield world and destroyed one of the fleet's ships - Far Sight Lost. Battle between the fleet and the Sentinels would commence, while Absolution was ordered to make a slipspace jump to Onyx's northern pole only to be destroyed by a suddenly appearing wave of Sentinels. Voro would try and figure out how the Sentinels could travel so suddenly and so fast, while the rest of the Sentinels would finally be destroyed. Yet once in atmosphere, they strangely came across more Sentinels that no longer harbored hostilities towards them. Upon the sighting of familiar Forerunner scriptures, Voro ordered a pulse of the Greeting of the Ancients on the off-chance that any living Forerunners were around - and instead picked up the signal from Bloodied Spirit, tracking it in order to lead an assault against the Spartans that made it onto Onyx. In the meantime, he discovered the core room antechamber. Then, the assault would begin, with Voro given the unorthodox order for troops to carry Kig-Yar point defense gauntlets. He would directly led the second wave into battle, reaching the center of the core room antechamber. There, he came across the mortally wounded Kurt Ambrose - Spartan-051. As he prepared to give the Spartan an honorable death, everyone would be killed by FENRIS nuclear warheads that Kurt had triggered remotely - allowing the other Spartans to escape with their lives. Whilst Voro died Nov. 3rd, 2552, he is survived by two brothers - Y'zaht and Delo - who currently serve as trusted lieutenants to Sali 'Nyon in his Covenant faction.

Sangheili Bracket Round 1 Match 25
More info below:

Crei 'Ayomuu:
Debuted in Halo: Outcasts
An Oath Warden - skilled investigator and a relentless stalker, master at tactics most Sangheili would never dare to think up. In 2559, he was hired to track down human xenoarchaeologist Keely Iyuska after she failed to appear for a meeting; his client, Studymaster Eto 'Saljhoo, was promised first pick of any artifacts she recovered on Netherop in exchange for funding said expedition. Tracking her to kreche warrens of a tenement island near Kolaar Manufactorum in Vadam, his deployment of spy drones called Eyes would unintentionally cause a skirmish amongst the Sangheili residents. He would lose his target in the confusion and be forced to retreat following the arrival of Created armigers also pursuing Iyuska. Following the failure, he would meet with Arbiter Thel 'Vadam to request assistance, piquing the Arbiter's interest with the knowledge that her research could lead him to a weapon capable of ending the Created's tyranny, as well as her connections to Spartan Olympia Vale and the likelihood that she would be going after the weapon for humanity. Crei would join the Arbiter in arriving at Netherop; nine days later, they landed on the planet, being accosted by UNSC castaways unaware that the Human-Covenant war had ended. While the Arbiter attempted to negotiate with Lieutenant Commander Amalea Petrov, Crei would spray blue aerosol in her face to make her more cooperative, to the Arbiter's ire. As they continued to talk following a devastating attack from the very weapon they were seeking, Crei would attempt to steer the Arbiter to make less honest decisions, but the Arbiter would stubbornly refuse and successfully earn some trust from Petrov. After the group met up with Spartan Vale and the forces she brought, Crei would continue to express doubt and insist the Arbiter should fight them for the weapon, "advice" that would continue to be ignored and rebuked. Later, in the temporary underground tunnels, Crei would butt into the conversation between the Arbiter and "Worldmaster" Nizat 'Kvarosee in an attempt to help the former in talking down the latter from his Covenant zealotry, but talks would still turn sour. Following this, he would reveal he had discreetly put a tracker on their human captive, helping lead the charge in pursuing whilst putting his intellect to good use in figuring out oddities with the tunnels and their targets' movements before anyone else. Once caught up with Nizat, Crei would unleash poison gas, only giving the Arbiter a heads up to seal his armor before doing so. He would kill one of Nizat's men in the ensuing combat, while the Arbiter dueled with Silent Shadow Meduz 'Ra'ashai before a breach in his armor made him pass out from further gas Crei unleashed on the battlefield without warning Thel; prior to that, though, an explosion would signal that Vale had used them as a diversion while she went on ahead in breaching and infiltrating the stranded Covenant's base. Once the Arbiter awakened, the survivors in the tunnel loyal to him finally reached the Inner Sanctum, where Crei once again attempted to turn the Arbiter against Spartan Vale. It once again failed and Crei reluctantly agreed to not kill Nizat and Tam 'Lakosee, given they were the only ones who could recognize the Divine Hand the group was after. Then, inside the Inner Sanctum, the group would discover the Banished attacking their ships above the planet - and they would realize that Crei's client 'Saljhoo was a front for the Banished, to Crei's shock. However, that would not stop him from later handing over part of the Divine Hand to Atriox himself when he and the Arbiter conducted a peaceful parley. Unknowingly, the Arbiter had expected and hoped Crei to do this, as he and Vale decided it was better for the Banished to take the destructive weapon and potentially destroy themselves alongside Cortana. With his contract fulfilled, he took up the offer to leave with the Banished, suspecting the others on Netherop would no longer be so "friendly" with him.
Additional commentary: I had to skim through parts of Outcasts to finish this description (since Halopedia is still incomplete on that front) and aaaahhhh I fell even more in love with his character and his dynamic with Thel. I really hope we see him again! I really hope him and Thel cross paths again! I'm kinda sad he's up against Mahkee since I love them both, but only one can reach round 2...

Found this thing in my WIP folder. It’s the first part of the idea I had based on the TNG episode where Riker goes on an exchange to a Klingon ship.
Don’t have a whole lot of meat on these bones, but here’s how it would start.
“No way.”
Chyler crossed her arms. “Tom.”
“Let me rephrase.” Tom sat forward in his chair. “No way in hell.”
“We have a contingent from the Swords of Sanghelios stationed here,” Chyler argued. “It only makes sense we’d loan out an officer to one of their ships.”
“We can loan out someone else. There are plenty of other first officers in this fleet.”
“None who have my experience with the Sangheili,” Chyler pointed out.
“Spartan Vale,” Tom said.
“Spartan Vale is not your first officer.”
“She’s also not my wife,” Tom snapped. “And I am not sending my wife to a Sangheili cruiser, alone, for [however long]!”
Chyler set her elbows on the desk. “Tom. It’s not exactly a secret that I’m here because you shanghaied Admiral Hood into signing off on it.”
“I did not shanghai Admiral Hood,” Tom said.
“A good chunk of the Navy thinks you did.”
“A good chunk of the Navy can kiss my—"
“And if you stop me from taking this assignment,” Chyler tapped the tablet in front of her “a good chunk of the Navy is going to think you held me back because I’m your wife.”
“I’m not stopping you,” Tom said. “You’re just declining.”
“I am doing no such thing,” Chyler fired back. “Even if I were, scuttlebutt would have it that the captain of the UNSC’s flagship didn’t want his wife participating in the officer exchange program. That could be all the push they need to reinstate the rules about spouses not being in the same chain of command.”
Tom rubbed his forehead.
“If I were any other first officer, you’d have no reservations about this,” Chyler said.
“Actually, I would,” Tom said. “There are a lot of safety considerations here.”
“Safety?”
“Sangheili ships aren’t built for humans.” Tom looked uncomfortable. “Especially not…human females.”
Chyler gave her husband a withering look. “What do you think is going to happen? A bunch of Sangheili are going to corner me and attack me?”
“Thought crossed my mind,” Tom said tersely.
“None of the Swords here have ever caused problems.”
“They’re on our turf,” Tom said. “And they chose to be here. The rank and file on a Sangheili vessel might be less amenable.”
“I will remind you, only one person in this room has an Expert Marksman’s badge.”
“Right. Gunning down Sangheili on their own ship would look great for our side.”
Chyler scowled.
“And before that look freezes to your face,” Tom said, “yes, I would say this to anyone else.”
“To a man?” Chyler challenged.
“You’re not a man!”
“That’s the point!” Chyler exclaimed.
Tom looked puzzled. “What?”
“Tom, did you see the ship I’d be assigned to?”
“Yeah. [insert ship name here].”
“And whose ship is that?”
Tom stared blankly at her.
Chyler sighed internally. How Tom could hold a thousand contingency plans in his head yet gloss right over a familiar name would never cease to amaze her. “Read.” She slid the tablet across the desk.
Tom began reading. “Mahkee ‘Chava?”
“That’s right.”
“The only female shipmaster in their fleet,” Tom said slowly.
“Yes.”
Tom set the tablet down. “Maybe that’s why the Arbiter thought you’d be a good choice for this.”
“Maybe,” Chyler agreed.
“And you do have more face time with Sangheili than any other XO.” Tom tapped the tablet’s edge thoughtfully.
“But you aren’t any other XO,” Chyler could hear him thinking. She reached across the desk and took his hand. “Tom, look at me.”
He looked up.
“This is a command decision,” Chyler said, “and you need to make it as my commanding officer. Not as my husband.”
Tom chewed his lip. “I really hate it when you’re right.”
“I’m sorry it has to happen so often,” Chyler quipped.
Tom scrunched up his face at her. “Is it too much to say I’ll miss you?”
“I’ll miss you, too,” Chyler said. “It’s only [how long?]. We’ve been apart a lot longer than that.” She rested her chin on her free hand. “You know what I think the real issue is here?”
“Do tell.”
Chyler gave him a sly smile. “I think you’re afraid you can’t run this outfit without me.”
Tom harrumphed. “Sarah’s the one who needs to worry. She’ll have to keep her Spartans in line solo. They’re all scared to death of you.”
“I guess someone else will have to collect Majestic’s contraband.”
The last line is an explanation for my headcanon about how little Chyler has Infinity’s entire Spartan complement running scared. It really deserves its own fic at some point.
