Nippon Paint Lanka Sponsors Painting of Sri Lanka’s Tallest Buddha Statue
Nippon Paint has donated the paint required to paint the tallest Buddha statue in Sri Lanka. Built by the Methsaviya Sansadaya, it is located at the Mahiyangana Purana Rajamaha Viharaya. “History records Mahiyanganaya as the first place visited by the Lord Buddha nine months after receiving enlightenment,” said Vidyakeerthi Prof. Chandana Jayaratne, President of the Meth Saviya Sansadaya. “It is…

History, origin and proof of the Naga part 4
With the journey of studying more about these Nagas as we were 1st focussing on Buddhism, we can also understand a few mainly important places in Sri Lanka,
In The book Deepavamsa we found out the buddha visited the island of Ceylon and preached damma settling the dispute between Chulodra Naga and Mahaudara Naga, that with proof was mentioned before another interesting fact is that in the same book, it refers to a place as Nagadeepa
This location is found as an island in the north of Sri Lanka and is still an existing site this place is also said to be the place where the Buddha solved the dispute mentioned above,
The importance is that its location dates to the clans of the Nagas and still exists
Further doing research on the place I was also able to understand that another Nagadepa existed in the Mahiyanganaya central part of the country and also poses historic archaeological sittings
the chief monk of both these temples claims that Cobras visit this temple more often
Tumblr media
Nagadeepa temple in Jaffna peninsula
Tumblr media
Nagadeepa in Mahiynganaya
This location truly dates back more than the Jaffna nagadeepa and also claims to be the real Nagadeepaya
youtube
This vedio is in Sinhala but it contains both information on both Nagadeepas
Further another important location is the Kalaniya temple in here we can also encounter few important information regarding the Nagas
Kalayniya relates in many ways the 1st is that as mentioned in Deepavamasa it is the place where a king named MANIYAKKITHA a naga king invited the budhha to preach a sermon further
Buddhists believe the temple to have been hallowed during the third and final visit of the Buddha to Sri Lanka, eight years after gaining enlightenment.[3] Its history would thus go back to before 500 BCE. The Mahawansa records that the original Stupa at Kelaniya enshrined a gem-studded throne on which the Buddha sat and preached. The temple flourished during the Kotte era but much of its land was confiscated during the Portuguese empire. Under the Dutch empire, however, there were new gifts of land and under the patronage of King Kirthi Sri Rajasingha the temple was rebuilt. It was refurbished in the first half of the 20th century with the help of Helena Wijewardene.
The Kelaniya Stupa enshrined a gem-studded throne on which the Buddha sat and preached. Buddha's second visit to Nagadeepaya, Sri Lanka was in the fifth year of enlightenment to settle a dispute between two Naga Kings, Chulodara and Mahodara over the possession of a Gem Studded throne. After having listened to the Dhamma sermons by Buddha the Naga kings paid homage to Buddha with overwhelming faith and the throne was offered to Buddha by two Naga kings.
The Naga King Maniakkika- Ruler of Kelaniya who also listened to Buddha's Dharma sermons pleaded for a souvenir to worship. So the throne was gifted to him by Buddha. King Maniakkika in turn constructed a Cetiya (Stupa) covering the Gem studded Throne in Kelaniya for thousands of devotees to worship and invited Buddha to visit the holy site.
Buddha together with 500 Arahats (Supremely enlightened beings) visited Kelaniya and preached Dhamma, on Wesak Poya Day, after eighth year of enlightenment as Buddha (in 580 BC which is approx. 2600 years back). It was Buddha's third and final visit to Sri Lanka.
The temple is also famous for its image of the reclining Gautama Buddha and paintings by the native artist Solias Mendis which depict important events in the life of the Buddha, in the history of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, also incidents from the Jataka tales. It is the venue for the Duruthu Maha Perahera procession each January.[4] An 5.5 m (18 ft) stone statue of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara has been erected at the temple. wiki

Kehelpothdoruwegala - Ududumbara SriLanka
The mountain range is known as “Kehelpathdoruwa” because it takes the shape of a branch of a banana tree. It is a long hike which involves a lot of walking. It can take approximately 2 hours to reach the top of Kehelpathdoruwa. The view at the summit is stunning. Yahangala, Randenigala Dam, Rantambe Dam and the village of Mahiyanganaya are visible from the top of Kehelpathdoruwa. It is also very misty at the top, but the hike is worth it because of the amazing vistas.

Ella Trip
It was a trip we friends planned for going to Ella. My friends were Mashan, Rajja, Laiya, Dilky, Natasha, Ruwini Akka and Pakshi Bro. It was a three-day trip. (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
Day - 01
We started the day with 5 of my friends joining me in Kandy to get the train to Ella (we decided to get down in Bandarawella as we had a friend there so we could stay there). So we were waiting for the morning 8.30 train to arrive, but it was delayed for half an hour. Anyways we got into the train. It was very crowded and we had bought 2nd class tickets. So some of my friends got into the 3rd class area and it was a little less crowded and as we all were 6 people it had face to face seats which can seat 6 occupants so it was ideal. In the first few hours, we didn’t have a seat and we were standing and we got to know one group of people are getting down at a particular station so we stayed until then and we got that seat. We then continued our journey all seated and well. We chatted and had a good time in the rest of the journey. Going through some beautiful scenery. That’s Sri Lankan Railway experience for ya!. Finally, we reached Bandarawella station. We got down at the station and started heading to the town to get some food and something to give when we reach our friends home. We headed to a hotel in a shopping complex and we had some tea as it was around 4 o’clock in the evening. Rajja and I went to a nearby supermarket to buy something for them and came back. Then we got a call from our friend that she is coming in her car to take us to her home (she’s Ruwini Akka by the way). So we reached her home, it was a big 3 story house. Guys were meant to stay on the ground floor and girls in the first and the family were to stay on the 2nd floor. We made our selves comfortable there and they made us dinner and we chatted a bit and we slept the night. The room was one big room with 4 beds in it so it was cool that all the guys were in one room.
Tumblr media
Day - 02
We started the day early morning as we had planned a lot of activities. Ruwini Akka has called and booked a safari jeep for the tour (it was so cool). We got ready and made our bags and breakfast, packed all of it and loaded it to the jeep. We all got in the jeep and started the safari. First, we had planned to visit a waterfall known as Pahanthuduwa waterfall. It was a sight to see. It was so beautiful we took a couple of photos as Pakshi bro had brought his camera so we had some quality photos taken. Then we had planned a jungle trekking so we went to the jungle to begin the trekking. On the way, we stopped near a dam to have our breakfast. It was a 4 km trek within the jungle. When we began the trek it was easy as hell just a footpath leading to the jungle. Then it was just the jungle all the way around it was really a tough trek from then on. We had to cross rivers and go through dense forests. Finally, we reached the end of the river for a waterfall known as Duwili Ella, which was a very relaxing sight to behold as we all were very tired of the trek. We stopped there for a nice bath in the river then had lunch over there and got ready to return. The safari cab we came in was parked on top of a mountain opposite the waterfall because there was a road uphill for the vehicle to get up there and close to us but it still was a long climb up to that area. We started and there was a hell of a lot of steps to go up and we finally made it to the top. Refilled our water bottles from a nearby water tap and continued to another place. This place was an archaeological site. But we weren’t there for sightseeing but for a rock climb. It was a short climb and when we reached the top of the rock it was really windy and when we went to the edge of the rock it was a sight to behold.
Tumblr media
We hang out there for a while and took a lot of photos and then we started our descent. That was it for the day and we started heading home to get dinner and get good sleep and continue our trip tomorrow. I was so damn tired and my legs were trembling.
Day - 03
We started the day with a good bath early in the morning. Had a small breakfast and started our journey as it was our last day we packed our bags and were scheduled to get the bus home after the day was done. First, we headed to Ella rock for sightseeing. The view was magnificent. It was two rocks that had an almost 180-degree view. It was soo damn magnificent. After that, we headed for the usual Ella destination, the Nine Arch Bridge. We spent some time over there took some good photos and continued our journey. We stopped by a shop to have lunch, rested there for a while and then we headed straight to the Demodara Railway Station. It was a unique railway station. As it was situated on top of a hill after the train took off from the station it was the steep downhill slope. Going down that slope in a train is impossible so they had to improvise. Then they decided to build it in the way the local farmers would tie there headwear. It was a circular track that circled around the hill going down the slope gently and going under the station to leave the slope and get to the next station. The railway station had some cool locations and bridges for us to take some more pictures and self-portraits. Then it was time for us to leave. The cab guy dropped us in the town as only the boys were leaving today and the girls were leaving the next day as it will get late when we arrive at Kandy in the bus. So from the town, we had to take the bus to Badulla town. We were 4 guys so we took the bus to Badulla and from there we took the Kandy bus. It was almost fully crowded and I somehow managed to get a seat. I didn’t think the journey home would be a good one because I don’t like bus travel to and from hilly areas because the roads would have a lot of bends and stuff. Anyway, the bus started its journey, I put on my headphones and had good sleep and to be honest the journey was not bad at all. As the bus was going through Haragama to Kandy I could get down at Tennakubura and take a bus home. It was around 8 o’clock at night when we reached Tennakubura and I got down there. Then I waited for a bus to go home. A Mahiyanganaya bus arrived and I got in and it headed home in like 15 minutes so I was home at approximately 8:15. Then had a little chat with mom about the trip and then had dinner. Then went on to have a good sleep.
