i dont know if there's even a ppop presence on tumblr but i do also want to promote ALAMAT, a 6-member idol boy group from the Philippines. Its members comprise of Taneo, Mo, Jao, Tomas, R-ji, and Alas. They debuted in 2021, and their creative direction centers on championing the Filipino identity and culture through their music.
sorry that ^ was a copypaste but it's a very useful and concise copypaste LOL but onto my own promo:
(note: also most of these videos have english subs!!)
(extra note bc this issue always pops up whenever locals encounter alamat: mo is always wearing black hairstyes bc he is blasian and not bc he is appropriating from black culture hdfjhdf)
youtube
KASMALA, the inverted Tagalog word for "strong" (malakas), is the MV that really did numbers on social media iirc. The video direction focused on the "human zoo" in the St. Louis' World Fair of 1904 (which included Filipinos specifically Igorots), and a general theme of anti-Filipino racism by white people (who are represented as ominous figures literally dressed in all white)
personal opinion: the music video is great but i personally think they have better songs, music-wise. and i'm going to give you an example of that by introducing you to my ALL-TIME FAVORITE ALAMAT SONG!!!
youtube
ILY ILY, a transliteration of "Ili-Ili Tulog Anay", incorporates the melody and lyrics of the Ilonggo lullaby it derives its title from. The MV and lyrics both work together to portray the experience of being an OFW/having an OFW parent. OFWs, or overseas Filipino workers, refer to Filipinos who go abroad in search of jobs that have better pay, so that they can remit money back to their families in the Philippines.
personal opinion: this is their best song THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG EVER OF ALL TIME and lyca gairanod is such a perfect singer for this. her ethereal crooning really gave me chills the first time i heard it UGH
youtube
DAYANG, the term for the wife of a Datu, is one of their most earworming songs ever. It's a gorgeous love song and what I would recommend to newbies if they want to get into alamat <3
personal opinion: The MV is kinda ass because it's just a super long extended ad for DITO PH (in terms of story and also bc they really missed out on doing a vid that drew more on culture esp bc dayang is a historical noble title and they used tausug words and designs for the graphics an the dance itself already incorporated pangasik dance which is also from the tausug people LIKEEE?? they've always promoted other cultures of the philippines i know they can do it but because of CAPITALISM--). But the song bangs so severely, as a pop enjoyer this is peak pop for me.
OH I ALMOST FORGOT DAGUNDONG
youtube
DAGUNDONG, a song basically recounting the colonial history of the Philippines from Spain to America, is just so fucking good you should watch/listen to it rn. There's EN subs don't worry you won't miss out on the context. This is colonial rage it's so satisfying I still remember where I was when they dropped this.
personal opinion: FOREVER OBSESSED WITH HOW THEY SAY "dahil puso mandirigma di papakutsa di papapugon" you guys have no idea how much i sing that line to myself sooo satisfying. Instant earworm this song i swear.
OK ONE LAST one last and i'm done. okay.
youtube
MAHARANI, a Sanskrit term for the wife of a Maharaja (translated as "great queen"), heavily features singkil, a Maranao dance which uses bamboo poles like tinikling does. The song also uses SEAsian instruments like kanun, gamelan, and gangsa. Also BINI's Jhoanna plays one of the main characters here!!!
personal opinion: this is their most pop-sounding song, which i think is slightly carried by the video i'm sorryyy. it's catchy though!! and i looove the part somewhere halfway where alas starts his verse, singing it in a more spoken-word way
___
okay 5 songs is. probably enough. this post is already kinda long shdfjskdff but yeah. pls check them out if you can hehe <3
also ppop idols are just really funny. there's no concept of an idol image so they just tweet shit. alamat jao gave out his genshin UID after a fan tweeted about having co-oped with him in genshin, and then after that he started answering questions with the hashtag "#canceljao" making a lot of magiliws (alamat fans) confused, and then he posted a classic iphone notes apology like this 😭
Tumblr media
i'll do a bini version after this my girls deserve more international hype. they occupy a more girlcrush pop genre but they're just as chaotic as alamat if not even more 😭 there are entire THREADS on twitter of them just being hilarious jdhfkshgf i love them so much
thanks for reading <3

Chapter Six
Also on Wattpad
Read from the beginning
Chapter Five > < Chapter Seven
The guards parted for Chandragupta as he walked down the long drawn corridor of Maharaj’s chamber and out into the open courtyard.
An eyebrow rose in amusement as he caught sight of the Rajkumari holding hands with Arnav.
What surprised him was the look of anguish on her face. He had been used to seeing chirpy, cherub Khushi, who wouldn’t think twice before playing a prank on him or the other ministers. He looked towards Arnav to gain a clue, when he noticed the marked impatience in him, etched in his actions.
“ Rajkumari! Has Manorama ji spared you today? Or has Arnav dared to deem her classes too dangerous and earned her ire?” Chandragupta ended with a chuckle.
“ Chandragupta ji, may I request an audience with the Maharaj?”
Khushi was shaken out of her senses at this. Arnav, who was ever conscious of the hierarchy, was addressing the head minister of her father’s durbar with a simple “ji”? She turned to Chandragupta ji, who seemed to be blissfully unaware of this stumble by Arnav.
Understanding dawned on him, and he was quick to signal a wave to the messenger who stood nearby at Arnav's request.
He looked at Arnav once more and smiled wistfully of an era gone by. He placed a heavy hand for a brief moment on Arnav’s head, as if in a blessing. And with that he left.
Khushi didn’t have much time to dwell on that moment, as the guards came calling.
The Maharaj was ready to see Arnav .
————————-
Shashidhar looked at his daughter and the young man beside her keenly. He could sense the confusion, the anticipation and the discomfort engulfing the two.
He halted himself before he could draw conclusions.
“ Arnav. Since it was you who asked for my audience , I want you to speak first “
Arnav drew in a sharp breath.
“ Maharaj, I am unfit to guard the Rajkumari “
Khushi’s head shot sharply up at Arnav.
“ Why Arnav?”
“ Because she knows.”
His voice rang loudly against the marble pillars.
Khushi blinked. Her ears were ringing. Herpalms were sweaty. She was finally going mad.
“ Khushi “, her father’s gentle voice broke through her turmoil. She looked up at the two men and was vaguely aware of Arnav drawing up a seat for her as she settled down on her wobbly knees.
—————
The leaves rustled against the half open window, and the wind chimes tingled along. Shashi mused with amazement of how before marrying Garima he had lived without that beautiful sound. She had placed it there lovingly and another one in the chamber where he conducted his administrative work.
Looking at the woman sleeping in his arms, a smile stole up his lips. He had never imagined he would fall head first in love with the beautiful princess of Mewar. When his father had first discussed his impending betrothal, he had simply treated it as something to be done with so that both the dynasties could be strengthened.
How was he to know that he was going to be blessed with this angel? From the day they had been engaged, he had been lost in her laughter, the teasing lilt in her voice and her compassion, which couldn’t be hidden even when tried.
He knew he was a goner when he decided to retire from shooting, his favourite pastime .A flinch on Garima’s face, when he shot down a pigeon was enough for him to give up the sport altogether.
He carcassed the bump that had brought so much joy into their lives.Garima had glowed and bloomed with pregnancy. The Maharaj and Maharani had been busy devoting their time to ensure Garima ate on time, had what she craved for and simply spoiled her to their heart's content. The palace was in upheaval as they prepared for the arrival of their unborn child.
How did he get so lucky?
--------
Chandragupta barged in, and Aravind looked up from polishing his gun.
“ They have launched a war. Didn’t you hear? Those heathens are here. The Mewars have already sent a section of their army. The Mewar Maharajah has asked our king for his aid”
He paused for he knew what it meant.
The war was being fought at the border. The soldiers sent would face difficulty to return, if left alive. They would have to send someone who could establish not only a morale for the army but a life there.
“ So much urgency Chandra to send me away? “ Aravind winked.
Two men stood facing each other. Two men who had experienced boyhood and grown up together to be the golden men of their kingdom.
Shashi walked into the room and could sense the tension with the fear of the news he was about to bring.
“ Aravind..”
“ Come on Shashi! Not you too! I didn’t become the chief of defence because I wanted to sit in my chambers afraid for my life. I am made for this”
“ You may be . But what about Ratna?! You’ll leave her here? I don’t know when this war will end but I know that it will be decades before I see you again”
“ I don’t have a say in this Shashi. You know that Ratna will never stay behind. And yes Chandra before you begin, I have exhausted all my tricks to convince her”
A pitter patter of tiny feet broke the agitation, as a three year old boy with the most adorable smile came running towards them.
“ Da-da ! Da-da!” his eyes,an exact replica of his father's, filled with joy as he giggled and jumped towards his father, knowing that he would be there to catch him.
Aravind spun around his son and his laughter filled the room, easing the tension in the room.
“ What about Arnav, Aravind?”Chadragupta asked, his voice breaking.
“ Aravind, yo-“ Shashi began.
“ I’ll shoot you both down if you think Ratna and I will leave him here. He is my son and I know what I have to do. They’ll be safe there. If it is indeed to be the last few days of my life, would it be too selfish if I want my family near me?”
For the first time in years, the two friends saw a glimpse of vulnerability in Aravind’s eyes. If this is what love does to a man, they were no one to ask him to give it up.
Shashi took the ruby ring off his finger and presented it to Arnav, who looked at it with great interest, before trying to taste it.
“ What happens if you are not there to love them anymore?” Shashi asked gently.
Aravind replied with a calm that belied his eyes.
“ You remember my guru? From my years in the far land. He will take them in. I have sent him a letter and Ratna….she knows what to do”
------------
Present
“ He defeated the Tughlaqs. But was fatally wounded”
Shashi spoke as his eyes stared unseeingly towards the window.
“ I was frantic with worry. Chandragupta went along with a set of soldiers to bring those who were stranded back. But Ratna and Arnav were nowhere to be found “
He shut his eyes as he relieved the pain from decades ago.
“ I was about to go to China, when Garima….she died in childbirth…I was lost in grief and had to care for my daughter . I received a letter from Ratna six months later.”
He turned towards Arnav.
“ You won’t believe Arnav, the relief we all felt. We couldn’t come to get you because the Yuan dynasty declared the communications between our land closed due to their ongoing war. “
“ We…I never knew that the war would go on for two decades . I apologise for-”
“ Please Maharaj, I don’t hold you guilty of anything. Not even ma. We were happy there. My teacher told me so many tales of my father that I never felt that I lost him. I just…just wished I had more time with him”
Smiling sadly, Shashi sighed. “ Death of a loved one is something you never get past“
“Is that why Ratna chose to stay back? “ he asked.
“ No, no. She said she couldn’t handle coming back now when I …”
“Khushi” Shashi interrupted Arnav’s trailing voice as he addressed his daughter.
“ Arnav….He is a spy for us against the rebels. He is not really your guard. Just a role he had to play to convince the rioters who were doubting his ability to get their job done. And yes don’t get me started on how furious I am that you followed him in the middle of the night! And to expect Hari Prakash to stay quiet after you put yourself in the path of danger!”
“ But-but- Baba I-“
“No buts! You have proved that you really do need guards.”
Turning towards Arnav he said,“ I think it is time to end this. They have gone far too long without facing our kingdom’s wrath”
Arnav stood straight on his feet “ Yes, it’s time”
“You both may leave. And yes, Khushi you can’t meet Arnav till the issue is resolved. That will be your punishment “ his eyes rounded in mock anger as Khushi blushed a faint red.
The sky was painted pink as Arnav and Khushi stepped out. Two hearts finally beating without the chains of secrets and doubts holding them back.

Maharani Jaiwanta Baiji Songara took the flower from the copper plate nearby and pushed it on the needle, making it roll down in the white string of the Garland she was making. The Maharani of Mewar was as generous as the flow of the River, always giving and never asking. But there was one thing Jaiwanta Baiji was picky about.
The Pooja of Her Krishna.
And thus, the Queen of Mewar was stringing garlands of white Jasmine flowers along with her sister-wives, the other wives of her Husband Maharana Uday Singh, namely Sajja Baiji Solankini and Karamati Baiji of Marwar, Maharana Uday Singh's second and third wife respectively, his fourth wife Veer Bai Jhala having gone to the temple of Eklingji to pray for the beloved son of Mewar, Kunwar Pratap Singh Sisodiya who was stationed at Kelwara.
"Jija! Here." Sajja Baiji said and gave the newly strung garland to Jaiwanta Baiji, the dusky skinned beauty of Jalore taking it and admiring it. "Jija, I see you thinking about something a lot nowadays. What happened? You look worried." Karamati Baiji asked.
It was a known fact to both that why Jaiwanta Baiji thought a lot. The Songara Chauhan Princess was worried about the ammunition help that would be needed for future help. Maharana Udai Singh remained firm on his resolve to surrender to the Mughals, but some other Rajput kings did not consider it appropriate to fight against the Mughals. This was the reason that Mewar had less military force, due to which the Mewari Rajputs had to pay a heavy price in the future.
"I'm just worried about ammunition, Karamati Behna. We know that some of our family are openly with us, and some are against it. How will we fight the Mughals until we get enough military forces?" Jaiwanta Baiji placed forth her worry.
"Jija, why do you worry about this? Ranaji will find a good solution. And about ammunition, I'm here right? My Father Rao Prithvi Singh Solanki won't stay behind in helping Ranaji." Sajja Baiji said in a soothing tone, which eased the worry in Jaiwanta's heart. Just as she could string another flower, her maid walked in.
"Khamma Rani sa Hukum!" She bowed. "Rana sa Hukum as for you three's presence in his Private Chambers main room. He awaits you with Rawat Chundawat ji." She told them and the three Queens of Mewar looked at each other with furrowed eyebrows, wondering why he would need all of their presence at once.
They all looked at each other, as Amar came in running exactly then for Jaivanta Bai. She laughed softly and scooped the three year old into her arms and took him with them, knowing that seeing Amar will calm Ranaji down too.
Rana Uday Singh meanwhile was agitated, worrying his lower lip between his teeth as he paced around the map of Rajputana. "We need ammunition, Ranaji. Kunwar Pratap is in Kelwara with our Army, and Bhils of Van Rajya are with us all thanks to him. But we still need an entire army at our dispatch for our war against the Mughals." Rawatji said.
Rawat Sai Das Chundawat was a great and able commander for Mewar, who also worked as a Strategy Planner and a Advisor to Maharana Uday Singh. The History of Mewar said that originally, the Chundawats were the sub-caste od Sisodiyas. Their progenitor Chunda Singh was the original heir of his Father Maharana Lakha, but gave away the Throne to his younger step brother Mokal Singh Sisodia.
"I know, I know Rawatji. But you know what happened to the letters we sent. Some replied in agreement, some in disagreement and some weren't replied." Maharana Uday Singh said in a frustrated tone, just as the two heard the sound of anklets.
"Dadajiraj!” came the cheery voice of Amar, who ran straight to his grandfather’s arms, as the latter’s three wives entered, looking at their husband and understanding the tense situation.
"Bhanwarji!" Uday Singh smiled automatically as he picked up his grandson and kissed his head. "You were with your Dadisa?" He asked.
"I just went to her, Dadajiraj," said the three year old, his smile the same as his mother's, though everything else was a copy of Pratap.
"Bhanwarji, as much as I wish to talk to you and spend some time with you, I have something very important to discuss with your Dadisas. Why don't you go to your Maa sa Hukum?" Uday Singh said gently.
"Hukum Dadajiraj" Amar Singh slipped out of his hold and joined his palms in a greeting to everybody and left in search of his Mother.
"Ranaji, what happened?" Jaiwanta Baiji asked once she was sure Amar Singh had gone. "Jaiwanta Baiji, I need to talk to you about something important. I have discussed this new Battle plan with Rawatji for the war against Mughals but.." Rana Uday Singh trailed off looking away with a sigh.
"But?" Jaiwanta Baiji asked as Sajja Baiji and Karamati Baiji exchanged glances.
"But we are short of ammunition Jaiwanta Baiji.." He sighed, finally telling her his worries.
"Do you have any Kingdom in mind to form an alliance with?"
At this question of Jaiwanta Baiji, everyone looked at her. When the Queen shared a glance with other spouses of Kings, the other two knew what she was implying.
"Alliance?" Uday Singh furrowed his brows and looked at Jaiwanta Baiji. "I don't understand Jaiwanta Baiji." He said quietly. He did understand it very well, he just wanted her to say it clearly.
“To get a larger army and ammunition, we need to form an alliance,” Jaivanta said gently. “Shakta and Heer’s marriage strengthened the bond with Jalore, but what about Toda?”
“Toda?" Uday Singh blinked confused before looking at Sajja Baiji who stepped up. "Ranaji, my niece Pyaar Kanwar Solanki. She is the daughter of my younger brother and his first wife who died early, and my brother was martyred. She was mainly raised by my brother's second Wife Mumal Baiji and my Father Rao Prithvi Singh Solanki." Sajja Bai said. "She is around 2 or 3 years younger than Ajabde." She told him.
Rana Uday Singh nodded with a hum as he reminisced about the shy and timid Toda Princess whom he had seen ages ago when Sajja Baiji's brother was alive. "Will Kunwar Pratap agree? He's very protective of Ajabde Baisa." He asked.
"Why won't he when Ajabde Baisa convinces him?" Jaiwanta Baiji smiled innocently, making Rana Uday Singh look at her incredulously. "Jaiwanta Baiji, Ajabde Baisa is the eldest daughter in law of Mewar. She must understand that as the future Heir Kunwar Pratap has to marry multiple times, what is asking her then?" He asked.
"The same reason as you ask Dheer Behna before doing anything." Karamati Baiji piqued in with a sweet smile. Uday Singh froze, turning to look at Karamat Baiji and sighed. "Karamati Baiji, I ask you all too" He was cut off.
”Before you ask Dheer? I am your first wife!” Jaivanta Bai said with a frown.
"I am not saying that!!" Uday Singh said immediately, his eyes widening in the fear that Jaiwanta Baiji will get upset with him. Although she was never one to get upset, he had his own experience with her. But wait, WHY was he being reminded of those experiences now? They had a Son who had his own Son! Uday Singh mentally shook his head. Calm Jaiwanta Baiji first.
"Jaiwanta Baiji, I mean to say that I take your Paramarsh- I mean you fours too before asking her!" He tried to calm her down.
”You do? Then why are you questioning why Ajabde’s permission is needed?” Jaivanta fought back with her husband, glaring at him. Rawatji looked at the scene unfolding in front of him incredulously, standing quietly with an amused smile. The only person who can win against a stubborn Maharana Uday Singh was his first wife— Maharani Jaiwanta Baiji Songara of Jalore.
Uday Singh saw through it and sighed. Putting his hands on hips, he shook his head exasperated. "Jaiwanta Baiji, I can never win against you. Okay, you go and ask Ajabde, and I will write to Pratap only after getting her agreement." Uday Singh said.
Jaiwanta Baiji smiled victoriously, looking at her Sisters. "Then Ranaji, we must go back to our work." She said and took her leave, her feet turning towards Ajabde's room.

Virah—Chapter 1
“Karim!” the woman yelled. “Does the girl look good? Does she need a bindi?”
Beside her, her daughter sighed. “It doesn’t matter how I look, Ma. Baba is shaving, leave him be.”
Ruma sniffled. “That’s the only thing your Baba does all day,” she said, quickly pressing a bindi between her daughter’s eyebrows. She pulled back, holding up her chin with her thumb. “Haan, you look theekthaak, don’t you think?”
Qameer mumbled something her mother couldn’t hear.
“What was that, girl?” Ruma snapped, hurrying from this room to that as she searched for her comb. “Speak up!”
“I said your comb is with Baba!”
Ruma paused, crinkling her nose. “Now what does that man have to do with my comb?” she feigned a look of great distaste. “Surely he isn’t shaving with it?” Before Qameer could reply, she had trotted off to find Baba and quite possibly leave him and his beard disgruntled for the rest of the day.
Qameer stood up, brushing invisible specks of dust off her kurta. She fiddled with the pearl necklace resting between her collarbones. A lame effort to make a good impression on the Queen.
She adjusted the mirror to give herself a full view of her face. Today was her big day. Nothing should have the chance to go awry. “Om namah Shivay, om namah Shivay, om namah Shivay,” she muttered under her breath. A much more pleasant way to threaten the god. Nothing should go wrong, you hear me? would perhaps be a more accurate representation.
With one last look at herself, Qameer walked towards the door. Ruma was already standing there, a plate, diya and batasha in hand. “Uffo, look at her going to get a new job without my blessings,” she scolded, placing a batasha in her daughter’s hand. “Eat this on the way, theek hai? You get hungry when you’re stressed.”
Qameer fought the urge to smile. She kneeled and touched her mother’s feet thrice. “Hey bhagwaan, please let this go well,” she murmured, almost to Ruma’s feet.
“Durga, durga,” Ruma whispered, waving the diya around Qameer’s face. “If you get the position, know that you deserve it. Okay, beta?”
Qameer nodded, forcing a smile. “Thank you, Ma.” Her grip on the scroll in her fist tightened with every word she churned out. Thank you, Ma. And for what? What if she returned empty-handed?
Her hand wrapped around the doorknob. She felt Ma’s eyes on her, watching her intently. No, she decided. This daughter would do what generations of them had only dreamed of.
It is a simple truth learned by every girl before they are of marriageable age. There is no place for fear in a girl’s mind.
At least, not when the girl in question is armed with a scroll of her poetry and a single batasha.

“Maharani, someone is here to see you.”
“Tell him I do not entertain suitors.”
The guard fiddled with the ribbon tied to his spear. “Maharani, it is a woman.”
A slight pause. “A woman?”
“Ji, Padshah Begum-ji. A woman. Looking for a position as a court poet.”
“Court poet? A woman?”
“Ji, Padshah Begum-ji.”
Another pause. The guard succeeded in his heroic effort to not scratch the nape of his neck. The pause stretched on, and the urge to scratch grew.
“Send her in.”
The guard bowed. “Ji, Padshah Begum-ji.”
