Getting older means realizing that if you see the people you love once a year, if you're lucky, you might get to see them 20 or 30 more times in your life. Time is the only currency we have that we can never get back or make more of, so we spend it wisely. On our way across the United States we decided to spend a lot of time with our loved ones. This is a wild decision after spending a year outside of the country as we returned completely different people with wildly altered world views. Crashing back into old familiar guest rooms and sitting at well-known dinner tables helped us to see just how far our wings have spread. It also helped us to see with a startling clarity just how much we have changed.
After adventuring north with Sara and Aaron, Krystal’s mom picked us up at the Dollar General in St. Germain. We spent the afternoon in beach chairs soaking up the lake for a few more minutes before heading to the Upper Peninsula.

As we all grow older and wiser we have started a tradition of heading to a small cabin on the shores of Lake Superior in the old copper mining port town of Ontonagon. If you have never been to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan we recommend heading that way after the snow melts and after the black flies die off. The rivers casually flow through ancient carved beds, with water stained by the tannins of tree leaves. Lake Superior is the deepest of the Great Lakes and her shores are studded with agates, driftwood, and the crisp air from far northern lands. The western shores of the Upper Peninsula are also home to volcanic rocks named Yooper lights. The presence of sodalite, a fluorescent mineral in the rocks, shines brightly under UV light. We shared the magic lore of the rocks with dear little ones in Hawaiʻi and spent our days on a mission to find some to share. Armed with rudimentary tools and unshakable spirits we totally found a few!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There isn’t a ton to do in Ontonagon, so it is best to space things out. This visit we made a stop at the preserved Old Victoria mining village. A hardy woman of Finnish descent guided us through the straw beds, working phonograph, a wood-fired sauna, and stories of lives lived in the cold and relentless work of copper mining. We missed fresh-baked cinnamon buns in the wood hearth by a week!
Tumblr media
The rest of our days were spent reading on the beach, meandering through the forest, and eating great food. We had a grill and were gifted three giant porterhouse steaks. Wow! We also picked up a $1 puzzle at the thrift store and it proved to be really hard. After three weeks of working on it every morning we were able to finish it and it was only missing one piece, which we are sure is on the floor at the cabin. We also did an enormous amount of mushroom hunting and collected chanterelles, hedgehogs, and an abundance of lobster mushrooms. If ever in Iron Mountain we recommend finding Mushroom Matt for a download of epic mycelial knowledge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From the Upper Peninsula we headed to the booming metropolis of Wausau to spend a few days with Krystal’s aunt Angie, Mark, and their dog who we like to call Muffuletta. Sharing stories of family memories and spending time poolside with cousins made the time speed right past. Aunty Angie was able to share pictures of Krystal’s dad when he was little and added more details to the tapestry of the family history.

We headed farther down state to spend some time with Krystal’s dad. Serendipitously, Aunty Lee was also in town from Oklahoma. Mary suggested photos and everyone agreed!
Tumblr media
Our days in the forest of Montello were punctuated with grilled turkey, millions of hummingbirds, and really epic Amish produce. We squared away the guest room, so if anyone is headed to stay things should be a little more cozy. Krystal was able to go with her Aunt Joyce to the Red Granite Correctional facility to spend some time with her older brother. Mary also interviewed Krystal’s dad! We thought the second edition of the family video was ready to roll out, and now we have so much more to add! Dennis and Sandy drove us to Madison for the next leg of the adventure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Madison we spent the night at the Governor’s Mansion Inn which was a total score and highly recommended for your midwest lodging needs. We needed a few beers and, we didn’t know it, also some poutine! The capital is gorgeous and easy to navigate on foot thanks to the University.
Tumblr media
The next morning found Krystal digging through the Wisconsin Historical Society Archives. She unearthed old records for the orphanage where her father was raised that looked eerily similar to the records we found in Palermo for the institute her great grandmother was abandoned at. At the end of the day we are all connected in patterns and ways that are super haunting and logical if we are brave enough to look.
Tumblr media
We took the Badger Bus from Madison to Milwaukee and it totally rocked. The agenda in Milwaukee quickly filled up with really wonderful adventures that included visiting the grave sites of Krystal’s Sicilian family; a lovely lunch with Ginger, a second cousin; and meeting up with Aunty Teddy, Krystal’s grand aunt. While in Milwaukee we rented a car from the Enterprise on Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Milwaukee and it was the absolute BEST rental car agency either of us has ever had the fortune of engaging with. We actually look forward to returning and doing business with them again in the future. No joke.
Tumblr media
In the middle of it all was our one year wedding anniversary! To celebrate we headed to a free kayak rental stand on the shores of the Horicon Marsh just after sunrise. We were pleasantly surprised to find a seaworthy tandem kayak, life vests, paddles, and an accessible boat launch. The boat launch was epic! Seriously. We set the boat down, sat in, and rolled it off into the marsh. We had a blast spending some time on the water celebrating a whirlwind of a year.
Tumblr media
We made our way to the Intermodal Station and secured two $25 tickets on the Amtrak from Milwaukee to Chicago. We are grateful for the train, but wow does the US have a long way to go in upgrading infrastructure! A clunky bump down the tracks at sunset put us back at Sara and Aaron’s house just in time for some homemade Panang curry. They are seriously the absolute best friends in the whole world. The next morning found us trundling through O’Hare at the crack of dawn for a direct flight to SFO. Next stop: California!

A startup pharmaceutical company has announced plans for a clinical trial to see if a psychedelic compound may be useful in treating fibromyalgia.
California-based Tryp Therapeutics is partnering with scientists at the Chronic Pain & Fatigue Research Center at University of Michigan Medical School for the Phase 2a study, which would be the first to evaluate the efficacy of psilocybin – the psychoactive compound in “magic mushrooms” -- to treat fibromyalgia.
"We are thrilled to collaborate with such forward-looking clinicians and scientists to develop additional treatment options for fibromyalgia," Jim Gilligan, PhD, Tryp’s President and Chief Science Officer said in a statement.
"The Chronic Pain & Fatigue Research Center at the University of Michigan brings incomparable experience with evaluating treatments for fibromyalgia and other chronic pain indications, and there is nothing more important to our collective team than creating therapies that will address the daily distress of these patients."
The study will evaluate the safety and efficacy of TRYP-8802, an oral formulation of synthetic psilocybin developed by Tryp. The treatment, which will also include psychotherapy, is designed to target pain originating in the central nervous system through neuroplasticity, which alters and reorganizes neural networks in the brain.
Fibromyalgia is a poorly understood disorder characterized by widespread body pain, fatigue, poor sleep, anxiety and depression. Standard treatments for fibromyalgia such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and gabapentinoids (Lyrica, Neurontin) often prove to be ineffective or have unwelcome side effects. I was tagged by @athousand-mornings for this! Thanks!!
rules: get to know your mutuals! list 5 things about yourself you want your followers to know. they can be as simple as your age or as complex as your deepest fear. when you’re done, send this to 10 people you want to get to know better!
1. I'm a certified scuba diver and very proud of this because I had to get over a lot of fears to get my certification!! I've been diving in the Caribbean and in Lake Michigan :)
2. I love Magic the Gathering and am dying to find a group to play with. My old MTG group in college all went our separate ways when we graduated.
3. I work for the EPA in the Great Lakes National Program Office as a research participant - I do a lot of writing and help with the activities involved in researching and restoring the lakes.
4. I'm getting my first tattoo on Halloween! It will be a curled up fox that is decomposing, with mushrooms and ferns growing from its ribcage.
5. I played the clarinet for many years! I'm very out of practice but can still read music and want to learn another instrument, I was thinking of taking guitar lessons :)
I'll tag 10 folks to participate if they want to! And anyone else can participate too.

Just two weeks into his new role as a local prosecutor in Michigan, Eli Savit has already accomplished two of his many priorities: His office won’t pursue charges for consensual sex work among adults, nor cases involving the use, growth, or sale of “magic mushrooms.”
“Criminalization can lead to violence. Criminalization can lead to murder,” Savit, the prosecutor for Washtenaw County, told VICE News on Thursday about his office’s new policy regarding sex work. “And these are lessons that we’ve learned over and over again from, for example, the prohibition of alcohol and the war on drugs. Whenever you criminalize something, it takes place in the shadows. People are less likely to come forward to report adjacent harm. And people end up losing their lives.”
Savit took office January 1 and unveiled both policies relating to sex work and entheogenic plants—a category that can include psilocybin mushrooms and ayahuasca—this week. The drug reform was a relatively straightforward decision, since the Ann Arbor City Council effectively decriminalized the plants in September. But Thursday’s announcement that his office won’t pursue cases regarding consensual sex work sets his jurisdiction apart, even as progressive prosecutors like him gain prominence nationwide.
“We looked at the research, and we looked at the data, and we looked at what subject matter experts—and those who work directly with sex workers and with trafficked people—were telling us, which is that criminalization harms sex workers,” Savit said.
Tumblr media
Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit. (Photo courtesy of his office)
Savit’s office emphasized in its announcement Thursday that prosecutors will still pursue cases in which violence or sexual assault follows “a planned exchange of sex for money,” in addition to cases involving human trafficking, minors, and “other charges not covered by this policy.”
But allegations of consenting adults exchanging sex for money won’t be part of that. And if those previously prosecuted under such circumstances apply for expungement, the prosecutor’s office won’t contest it, either. That could be immensely meaningful for the populations often punished for engaging in sex work, including transgender people of color.
Savit noted that by avoiding charges over consensual sex work, his also office will be able to give vulnerable people the assurance that they can come forward with reports of sexual assault, physical assault, or trafficking, all without fear of prosecution.
It’s unclear if Savit’s wide-ranging sex work policy is the first of its kind, since other reform prosecutors have made efforts to avoid charging sex workers in recent years, too. But it’s certainly rare. David Alan Sklansky, a Stanford Law School professor who studies prosecutors, said in an email to VICE News that he couldn’t think of an announcement similar to Savit’s, though he acknowledged that doesn’t mean it’s never happened.
“I think the policy Savit has announced is another sign that the prosecutor movement is widening its ambitions: what it means to be a progressive prosecutor is changing; the bar is moving upwards,” Sklansky said.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner also asked prosecutors in his office to not charge sex workers with prostitution if they have fewer than two convictions, according to the public radio station WHYY. Chesa Boudin, a similarly progressive prosecutor leading San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, had said before he was elected in November 2019 that he would not prosecute people for offering or soliciting sex. And George Gascón, the new district attorney for Los Angeles, said he would not prosecute sex workers if elected in an interview with the Appeal, adding that San Francisco actually stopped charging sex workers around 2012, when he was in charge.
Savit, a former public school teacher and civil rights attorney, was elected on a progressive platform to serve a county of nearly 368,000 people that includes Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan. He also quickly eliminated cash bail—making his county the first jurisdiction in the state to do so, according to WDIV-TV, a Detroit NBC affiliate.
Savit said he ran for office in the first place because he had witnessed the “cascading adverse consequences of the criminal legal system on other parts of society, on education, housing, workforce development, and the like.” He wanted to build a justice system that prioritizes public safety in a “rehabilitative and restorative way,” he said.
To that end, his office has also partnered with the American Civil of Liberties Union of Michigan and the University of Michigan Law School to do a deep dive into his office’s files to uncover racial inequities in prosecutorial decisions.
“Eli Savit didn’t waste any time getting to work fulfilling promises made in his successful campaign to become Washtenaw County’s prosecutor,” Shelli Weisberg, legislative director at Michigan’s ACLU, wrote in a news release January 10. “In the process, despite just taking office January 1, he’s already begun setting a standard that local prosecutors across the state should follow.”

Qualified and certified professional doctors will set an appointment with you and make a medical examination to see if you really need to be treated with marijuana. This is done in proper medical marijuana clinic.
Do not be deceived by some companies that provide counterfeit recommendations. You should be able to delineate if you are dealing with the rightful authorities to avoid having problems with the law. If the law finds your card to be not genuine, you are subject for imprisonment or payment of penalties. Therefore, you must not trust any issuing company that transact and gives recommendation only through phone. Be cautious of some companies that issues counterfeit cards. Getting a medical marijuana card involves various steps and quite a long process before you can get an approval. Several forms are to be correctly filled-up and processed before you will be approved to have a medical marijuana card.
Patients with cancer, glaucoma, HIV or AIDS, cachexia, multiple sclerosis and those who suffer from severe pain, nausea resulting from chemotherapy for cancer treatment, seizures, and persistent muscle spasm can be legally treated with medical marijuana. It could also be used to treat arthritis, brain injury due to stroke, migraines and eating disorders. When one of these conditions is present, the patient will be issued a medical marijuana license.
You can now legally buy medical marijuana medicines when you already have the card. In Colorado, a law called Amendment 20 was approved that allows a patient to have in his possession up to 2 ounces of medical cannabis and grow up to six plants. Medical cannabis is another term for medical marijuana. There are already 13 states in the United States of America that have already enacted laws to make the use of marijuana legal. In addition to Colorado, the other states are Alaska, California, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington. Also, there are now other countries that have also legalized the use of marijuana to treat patients with debilitating conditions. These countries include Canada, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Spain, Finland and Israel.
The laws relating to the legal use of marijuana are subject to certain conditions and limitations so as not to abuse the use of this plant that is recognized to be prohibited in the earlier days. Although many countries have now seen its medicinal effects to persons in very weak conditions

, there are still considerable arguments regarding its effectiveness. Some physicians are concern of its possible side effects.

COVID-19 LIFE
18 May 2020
How can it be 12 days since I last posted?  It must be the distraction of improving weather, the amount of time I am spending on the garden, and getting ready to enjoy the outdoor season: bringing all the outdoor furniture up from the basement, cleaning the porch, patio and deck, putting covers back on all the cushions, moving all the plants that have been hibernating in the sun room out of doors; ferns for the urns on the front steps, and hanging from hooks above the balustrades on the porch, potted palms next to the wooden furniture facing Pearl street.  There are the big self-watering planters filled with semi-tropicals on the deck off the sun room and the giant urns on the blue-stone patio.  New plantings in the bare spots in the flowers beds, potting a new lime tree, an on-going losing battle with crabgrass and other unworthy competitors to my lawn.  I could have a booth selling dandelion leaves for salad at the Wall Street farmer’s market on Saturday morning if I had the time.  Re-seeding bare patches under the copper beech tree and the corner near the vegetable patch, seeding herbs and greens in tiny compostable pots that have to be misted twice a day.  Cutting away dead leaves and growth from everything and moving the potted plants from beneath the living room windows to their appointed positions out of doors.  Ahh....
Tumblr media
The weather had been so cool, damp and dreary, that I had to take matters into my own hands and say enough is enough, that it was about time we moved from bare hints of spring to full on spring mode on May 14th, mainly to keep Marco from packing his bags and moving back to Tuscany, where temperatures are already well into the high seventies and eighties.  Temperatures here rose as ordered.  We hit 80 a couple of days ago which has delayed Marco’s imminent migration.  I even enjoyed a pitcher of iced tea!
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, in the wider world, 90,000 Americans are dead, and there have been 1,400,000 confirmed cases of the virus. 36,000,000 Americans have filed unemployment claims (Marco and I are not eligible) and armed civilian militia have overrun the Michigan state  legislature and shut down Oregon’s demanding that the governments re-open the economies. Who are these people?  They are clearly a small but vocal minority of the disparate groups of supremacists, right wing Christians, and hard line second amendment defenders who are being encouraged by the man in the white house (note to my great-grandchildren: many people in these times refuse to even speak the name of the current resident of the White House.  Something we borrowed as a form of protest from the Harry Potter novel series where people were afraid to even mention the name of the antagonist -- Voldemort.)  We’re not ‘afraid’ to mention his name, we just feel that he shouldn’t be given any form of legitimacy, not as a man, and certainly not at as a president.
Tumblr media
Closer to home, here in Kingston, NY, a barber in a hipster-retro shop on John Street, has been cutting hair on the sly, in defiance of the shutdown, and has been diagnosed with the virus.  Officials are searching for anyone who might have had their haircut by him (eye roll). On the brighter side, Liberato (Marco’s niece's fiance was finally able to legally open his brand spanking new barber shop in San Querico (Tuscany) this week and is booked solid for two weeks -- 97 appointments.  It’s curious that the Kingston barber made international headlines.  We heard about it from as far afield as Siena (IT) and Geneva (CH, not NY!)  Most people are taking the shutdown seriously, but many are not, and it’s a very divisive topic.  One security guard was shot, in Michigan, for telling a customer to put on a mask or leave the store.  Another liquor store owner in Flint (Michigan clearly has anger management issues) was shot in the ankle for the same reason.  Many people feel that the lock down is a useless exercise, that we should just open up and get it over with.  It’s not killing as many as we thought it might, and cases have started to fall off in the worst hit places.  But the whole point was to ‘flatten the curve’ to prevent the health care system from getting overwhelmed and to protect the vulnerable.  That part has worked.  So where do you begin, and how much is enough, to get the economy started again without creating new spikes and hot-spots of the disease and risk overwhelming the hospitals?  The scientists argue that it can’t be done safely until we have tested most of the population to get a handle on how many people have already had it.  Supposedly, 60% is a magic number for ‘herd immunity,’ above which the virus will slowly die out because it can’t sustain itself in a smaller pool, but that assumes that once you’ve had it, you are immune.  The jury is still out on that.  So much information, so little reliability.  Example: Marco read in the Italian press today that the US had come up with a vaccine and was testing it.  Here, however, the medical professionals are saying we are at least a year, maybe two, away from a vaccine.  It’s no wonder people are acting crazy.  Anyone can  pretty much find someone out there who is saying exactly the thing that appeals to their fears and some of us act on those fears, with the encouragement of the 12-year old in chief, who says he is now taking hydroychloroquine, the efficacy of which is questionable and is said to have potentially harmful side effects.  A couple of months ago, a couple in Arizona took it after he touted it.  The husband died and the wife was hospitalized in serious condition.  Well, let’s hope he manages to kill or incapacitate himself soon.
That’s plenty on that topic.  I don’t know if it is because we are safely ensconced in Kingston in a big house surrounded by lawns and stone walls and flowers that I don’t feel particularly under threat by the virus.  But at the same time, I don’t feel the loss of human contact (other than with Cole, Ashe and Carter and the hugs). My time is my own, and I’m enjoying finding ways to fill it -- cooking, reading, planning for reopening my hospitality locations, gardening, studying, watching movies....  My biggest fears, really, are economic.  When this is over, what will my investments be worth, what will the townhouse in Brooklyn be worth, how will I support myself, help Marco, and leave something to my son and grand kids when I go?  Up until now those were not serious issues for me.
Tumblr media
I do miss eating out in places where I know people or places where the food is particularly transcendent, but cooking at home and really investing in keeping food interesting, has been a pleasant challenge.  And as I settle in to lock down -- it’s been two months now -- I find I am seeking less amusement in martinis, mushrooms, and space cookies, and more in reading, writing, studying and cooking and actually having a schedule for those activities.  I also love the efficiency of online visual visits, both personal and for study and business.  I’m staying in closer contact with so many of my friends than I did before lockdown.  We have a call tonight at 7 p.m. with Joe and Vicki in LA which I am looking forward to, and we are doing a weekly family call on Sundays with the kids, Roy and CT in Hawaii, Maud in Brooklyn, Hedy and Firth and M and me here in Kingston.
Tumblr media
Hawaii, by the way, is pretty safe.  And here, in Ulster County, we’ve had fewer than 40 deaths and 1500 cases.  And considering how many people like me have fled from the city to Kingston, I’m surprised it’s not higher.  East Hampton, for example, was a hot spot because of all the rich NYC types that have homes there and left the city.  Sorry, sorry.  I promised to stop.  Times article says that wealthier neighborhoods in NYC have lost 40% of their population!  I’m so glad the kids are at our place to keep an eye on things.  And Marco’s finding a rhythm, too.  Check it out.
Tumblr media
I finally plodded though to the end of Thomas Campanella’s book, “Brooklyn: The Once and Future City”.  It was very, very informative, even if many parts of it would be far more interesting to civic planners and architects than to casual readers, but it really did put a lot in perspective on Brooklyn’s economic and social trajectory through nearly 300 years with some interesting segues into geological formations that impact the place still today.  Sadly, as interesting and appealing a place as Brooklyn is, very little scholarly work has been done on it’s history.  Until very recently, the focus has always been on Manhattan.  It did correct a number of my own misconceptions.  Importantly, despite the fact that Robert Moses was not thrilled at the design for the proposed Dodger Stadium at the intersection of Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues, it doesn’t appear that he, on his own, could have stopped it.  Research suggests that it was the disappearing fan base (fleeing the crime-ridden city in the 50s and 60s) that made the move to LA more an economic decision than has otherwise been speculated.  And I’m no fan of Robert Moses. The study group, in the end, actually wanted to put the stadium complex in Park Slope, bordered by Sterling, Bergen, Vanderbilt and Boerum Place.  What a disaster that would have been on so many levels!!  Not the least of which would have been the United Jet that crashed in that spot in 1960. And the Weisberg’s wouldn’t have been my neighbors for 34 years because their house would have been razed.
Other non-essential slightly amusing details. Deer ‘resistant’ plants are not deer ‘proof’.  And our herd doesn’t seem to be made up of fussy eaters. So, we are frustrated by the number of our plants that are being ravaged.  Apparently, based on an internet search, Marco has discovered that piss and cayenne pepper are good home garden deer deterrents!  Well...  I am putting it to the test with a mixture of BOTH.  I’ll keep you posted on results.  (I won’t go into detail on how the mixture is obtained/prepared, interesting as it may be.)  Hungry?  Peanut butter, honey and banana -- not since I was 10 years old.  Think I’ll write a kids’ Covid cookbook!

The Amazing Benefits of Psilocybin Mushrooms as Medicine
Psilocybin Mushrooms have traditionally been used medicinally dating back thousands of years and mushrooms, in general, have been used to treat everything from colds to life-threatening cancer and have even been shown to help with memory loss caused by Alzheimer’s disease.
Tumblr media
However, you may be surprised to learn that Psilocybin mushrooms have many more benefits than people typically realize. In this blog post, we will explore the surprising benefits of Psilocybin mushrooms as medicine.
The State Of Psilocybin Research
Research shows that Psilocybin mushrooms may be vital in treating a wide range of psychiatric and emotional issues, though it’s yet to be approved by the FDA. However, in some areas, clinical trials may exist where one can take part in a psilocybin therapy session under the guidance of a professional.
Some potential symptom relief may include depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, quitting smoking, alcohol addiction, cocaine addiction, cancer-related anxiety, or other end-of-life psychological distress.
High-profile initiatives have also recently made the rounds in Colorado, California, and Oregon to legalize psilocybin mushrooms. There is a strengthening of the momentum to decriminalize psychedelic mushrooms and such states as Michigan and Oklahoma.
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, psilocybin mushrooms are a Schedule I drug due to their high potential for abuse and current lack of medical application. LSD, MDMA, and marijuana are also Schedule I drugs. In spite of social stigmas and legal obstacles, clinical trials are still proceeding and there are many positive applications for psilocybin therapy.
Many institutions exist, including the Heffter Research Institute, a non-profit research center specializing in psychedelics, specifically psilocybin, which was founded by Dr. George R. Greer as a non-profit initiative. “We have a two-fold mission: to do research to gain a deeper understanding of the mind and the brain, and to use psychedelics therapeutically to reduce suffering.”
Psilocybin therapy for cancer is one of the most promising areas of research at the institute currently.
It is important to keep in mind that due to the wide range of potential uses for psilocybin, the amount of clinical research varies dramatically, from single pilot studies to FDA phase II or III trials. There are hopeful trends that more psilocybin research will continue to be published.
Depression
Psilocybin Mushrooms have been found to be an effective treatment for symptoms of depression. Mushrooms contain the brain chemical serotonin, which is believed to be important in regulating mood and appetite. Mushrooms also contain the amino acid tryptophan, which effectively treats depression.
Consciousness research has shown that depression can be effectively treated with psilocybin therapy and the anti-depressant effect of hallucinogenic mushrooms is well-known in the scientific world.
One study showed that psilocybin, the main active ingredient in magic mushrooms, can relieve symptoms of depression in just six hours after ingestion. The researchers also found that psilocybin reduced anxiety and fear of death by about 50%.
A study has provided evidence that the use of Psilocybin treatment can have long-term effectiveness. Most patients experienced a clear improvement in their depression symptoms for almost a year after completing this course of therapy.
Johns Hopkin Medical researchers have led studies with psychedelic drugs, and treatment results show major depressive disorder symptoms being relieved for months. In a follow-up study, researchers have found that the anti-depressant effects of psilocybin-assisted therapy may last up to 1 year for some clients with psychotherapy.
Cancer-Related Psychological Distress
The effects of psilocybin on cancer patients have been studied for decades. The results have been positive, with most studies showing that the substance decreased depression and anxiety in cancer patients and improved their overall quality of life.
A recent study found that psilocybin can mitigate emotions and offer relief. A dose of a psilocybin drug can be enough for many months of relief.
Researchers recruited 11 patients receiving chemotherapy treatment at a hospice facility in Seattle. They randomly assigned half of these patients to receive either intravenous psilocybin or a placebo every two weeks for six months. The other half of the participants received an inactive substance — saline solution — administered by mouth instead of by injection.
After six months, both groups showed improvement on measures of depression and anxiety compared with baseline scores (on average). However, those who had taken mushrooms reported fewer depressive symptoms than those who took placebo pills.
Headaches
Psilocybin Mushrooms have been used for centuries as a natural remedy for headaches and migraines, and they are still considered one of the top choices by people who suffer from this common condition.
According to a 2017 study, the use of psychoactive substances like psilocybin might help treat cluster headaches and migraines.
Psilocybin Mushroom extracts can be used as an effective treatment for migraines and other headaches, including cluster and tension headaches because they are typically absorbed into your system faster than eating mushrooms. Psilocybin Mushrooms can be a great alternative to traditional medicine when it comes to headaches.

There is no longer question in my mind that Glacier National Park is the land of abundance. Especially not after the fishing backcountry trip I just emerged from this past weekend to Elizabeth Lake, in the Belly River Trail/ Region of this great National Park. The 11.1 mile hike to the head of the lake along the Belly River Trail was lined with a dense underbrush of thimbleberry bushes on which tall, well spaced (worth noticing ) pine and spruce nested. Seemingly brave Ptarmigan, crisscrossed the trail indifferent to our heavy feet as we rushed to set up camp and cast our lines before nightfall. Huckleberry-rich bear scat punctuated the trail every half mile or so as the river coursed, crossed and hugged the trail every mile or so. The vista’s abundance in sheer beauty could only be tainted by the lingering smoke that ghosted the entire valley as it did in most of the Montana. If your spirit is attuned to Nature’s gifts, there is so much for you in Glacier National Park.
It didn’t take much convincing when Steven called a few months back and asked whether I wanted to join him on a backcountry fishing trip to Glacier National Park. To be fair, he would actually have said, ‘put some hurting on a lake’. Steven and I met about five years ago slinging plates at a restaurant in Denver. Slinging plates eventually led to one of the most epic camping backcountry pilgrimages of my life which culminated in a bear incident in the Canadian rockies of Banff National Park.  Steven is a soft spoken, even toned, fearless, outdoors man. And he is damn good angler. It was on this said epic trip that I cast my very first line into the glacial waters of Berg Lake. That wasn’t great fishing, we could only come up with hand sized brook trout which we shamefully kept and cooked trader joe’s dehydrated curry food bags. It was messy, but it was memorable. Fast forward and Steven has since moved to Michigan but our brotherhood has prevailed against time and distance.
Perhaps this trip was a do over. If Berk Lake in Banff was bad fishing. Then there are no words for our fortune at Elizabeth lake. After 11.1 miles of arduous hiking , we dropped our bags, set up camp, hooked our lures and whipped our rods into the lake. Sure enough, within the first couple of casts, Adam, Sam, Steven and I,  attracted some aggressive nibbles. Within the first ten minutes we had caught a couple of pan sized rainbow trout. Exhaustion had gotten the better of us and all five of us retired into the night. Excited and spent!
The next morning was an Angler’s dream. We rose early with the sun. The eerily still water was blanketed with dense mist and fog. But you could still see your lure flatter through the water as you reeled it in from a distant cast. One after the other we pulled fish out. Mostly rainbow trout, but also arctic grayling in the ration of 5:1. Osprey and bald eagles that coasted the air above us were not left behind either. One after the other they dove into the water and emerged with talons full of fish. Abundance.
#gallery-0-8 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-8 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-8 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-8 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Hey Steven, how many bears are out here? ”
The awareness of the abundance of bears in Glacier hit home at snack time as Steven disemboweled a rainbow trout and we were faced with the conundrum of how we were to transport the bear bait back to the cooking station at camp. As the thought of bears sat with us, the more terrified we became, the more cognizant we were of the fact that were practically fish at that point. 100 fish and counting, the whole process of catching and releasing ensured that we were doused in all kinds fish juices. I thought of my hammock – ‘bear burrito’ – and let out a nervous laughter. Fuck!  Eventually we mustered some collective courage, chopped up the fish, buttered, salted and peppered the fish and cooked them with delicious precision. Nothing ever tasted better. Abundance.
Preparing rainbow trout on the shores of Lake Elizabeth
The night seemed to have countless hours. I cradled the bear spray and re-read the instructions over and over again for understanding. In my hammock, I peaked through my sleeping bag at the stars that filled the sky and tried my best to ignore the approaching shuffling and grunting in the woods coupled with howling from a distant. The only saving grace of being in that hammock was that I was perched right above the thickest thimbleberry bush that was fruity. The berries were so juicy they would crumble if not handled delicately. So in my terrified state,  I would ever so often reach out and gently retreat my fishy hand full of treats into my mouth.
The night eventually turned into day. It was abundant. Our intent to ‘put some hurting on the lake’ drove us back to the shoreline. We fished and recounted our individual terrors from the day before. We delighted in the fact that we all peaked from the Magic Mushrooms we had consumed the day before at the same time. We thought that was magical. We shared our perceptions of the majestic forest, mountains and lake  that were the canvases of our ‘trip’.
We were thankful for Glacier for providing abundantly.
Abundance in Glacier National Park There is no longer question in my mind that Glacier National Park is the land of abundance.

Hey babes!! We’re closing in!
I hope you’ve been well! I apologize it’s taken me awhile to respond, I’ve been busy at work on your gift!
Your animals are so cute!!! And I adore that they’re rescues 🥰 I don’t have any anymore. I had to re-home my kitty, Hazel, because I couldn’t take her when I moved but my fat mama is happily living with a really good friend of mine and I can visit her pretty much whenever I want. ❤️
I live in a valley on a river. There are two large bluffs on either side. One bluff was turned into a park and the other is sacred native land that is full of hiking trails and hidden caves. There’s a “restricted” trail that I like to hike barefoot in the spring and summer. It’s completely covered in leafy trees and the footpath is literally 18 inches wide and it’s just beaten dirt from other hikers. There’s a gigantic boulder about halfway through the hike that you can climb onto and see the river through a break in the trees. All along the trail you can find wild honeysuckle in abundance and have a sweet lil snack as you go. It’s also a great place to look for and identify a ton of different species of mushrooms!! When you get to the end, there’s a really tall hill you can climb up and over and if you’re feeling gutsy, you can work your way down the cliff side and sit on the side of the bluff and see the entire city splayed out below you. It’s absolutely beautiful.
I love the versatility of guitar, but bass is so much fun! It’s groovy and funky and sexy all at the same time.
I love earl grey tea too!!!! I make mine with a little sugar and cream. It’s a perfect pick me up. ❤️
My most treasured memory… it’s probably my most recent trip I took. I drove 10 hours straight to visit my best friend in Michigan. We drove another three hours to Frankenmuth where the guys are from and spent the entire weekend there. We went record hunting, ate good food, found a couple jewelry shops, bought matching rings, took a bunch of pictures and quite a few Polaroids, played guitar together, got drunk and partied with the locals, and got matching tattoos that say “hate bound by fear will unwind”. I’m convinced she’s my twin flame and I am so grateful to have her in my life. 82 days and I’ll be reunited with her again!! 🥰
Oh man, this is a tricky question. I absolutely love my life and I love where I’m at right now. I appreciate every experience I’ve had and every mistake I’ve learned from. I love my job and my friends and my family. I love my perspective and who I’ve grown to be in the last ten years. I really try to live without regret. I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason but I find myself longing to travel a lot more lately and that gets a bit tricky when you have young kids. I think the only thing I would change, as long as I’m guaranteed to have exactly what I have now, is I would have waited a few more years to have children. I love my boys more than anything and they bring a joy to my life I can’t even begin to explain. ❤️
This is probably my favorite piece of poetry and I think it says so much about how magical we are as people and most of us don’t even realize it.
“We have calcium in our bones, iron in our veins, carbon in our souls, and nitrogen in our brains.
93 percent stardust, with souls made of flames, we are all just stars that have people names.” -Nikita Gill
Unfortunately, I don’t have any questions this time around, but I am so excited for you to read this. It’s coming along beautifully and it’s honestly one of my best works yet.
I hope you’re doing well and staying safe and healthy this holiday season.
Stay awesome Jules!!
xx
-secret Santa 10
Hello my love!! I missed talking to you so much 💚 How are you doing?
Don't worry, I know life can be literal chaos sometimes so take your time
That's so cute that you can still visit her, i bet she lives like a royality and owns the house 😃
The place that you live in sounds like a scene straight up from a Tolkien novel, so majestic. It must be so inspiring to live in such a graceful place. My biggest dream is to live in a place when nature can inspire me to create more.
I bet it is!! I always dreamed of having a bass. I look at different and colorful guitars on Pinterest and if I could I'd have hundreds of them 😄
I'm so happy for you that you met people in your life that are your friendship soulmates. Keep them close to your heart for they will spend with you the best of times and help u with any struggles. I hope one day I'll find people like that. You guys must have the best time togheter, just don't break too much havoc 😝
I honestly think that you look at life the right way. You will find the time to travel I'm sure, just keep pursuing your dreams and never give up. Your kids sound the sweetest and I bet they love you endlessly. I think the beauty in life is to treasure even the smallest things, keep them close to heart and you will find all the happiness you need.
I adore Nikita Gill's poetry, it honestly so eye opening! You should check out Bell Hooks and Erin Hanson, I think you will like them
Here are some fun questions for you:
1. What tv show character would it be the most fun to change places with for a week?
2. If you would have an all-expenses paid trip to aby famous world monument, which monument would you pick and why?
3. What tips/ tricks have you picked up from your job/jobs?
4. What songs hit you with a wave of nostalgia every time you hear them?
I'm so excited to read the story that you wrote me!! And i'm even more excited to show you the gift that I'm making for you 💕. Honestly talking with you always makes me smile so thank you for that 💚
Lots of love,
xoxo Jules
