Marc’s POV

The woman who was holding his hand was as beautiful as the sun. Clad in a white and gold sundress, she was walking ahead of him in a golden field, her long hair billowing back at him with the delicious scent of jasmines. Marc caught a glimpse of the sun tattooed onto her wrist and his thumb swiped it, relishing the feel of her skin against his. Tall reeds surround the both of them and Marc felt so full of peace and calmness. 

She glowed almost ethereally and Marc thought she was too good to be true. Her laughter echoed in his ears and reverberated in his thoughts, clouding them and making him giddy with happiness. Her hand in his was soft, gentle, loving and she was loosely holding on, as if she weren’t afraid to lose Marc, knowing that he was hers forever. 

Marc tucked her hair behind her ear and pressed a soft kiss on her forehead, only for the scene around him to drastically change. 

He pulled back to see her beautiful brown eyes turn a murky white, her hair drenched with ice cold water, her sundress ripped at places. Her glow had diminished, drained from her body in an attempt to rid her beauty. 

“Go Marc, please, leave me here, go save yourself, my love.” She begged, her voice sounding like it was at a distance although she was right in front of him. 

Maec refused to go. He didn’t want to leave her. He stood there gripping her hand as fear coursed through his body, shaking his head. She wrenched her hand out of his and got to her knees in prayer as her begging continued.

Suddenly water began to fill the space that they were in and Marc felt his lungs fill with the liquid, pushing him into an abyss of pain and darkness. Her screams echoed in his head as he fell, falling far away from the one that he loved.

Marc woke up with a jolt and a frantic scream erupted from him. He clutched his pillow tightly to his chest and looked around his room, brown eyes wide with fear. He was only wearing boxers yet not even the cold London night could stop him from sweating. His curls were wild from his thrashing and he ran his hands through them as he reached for air to breathe. 

To those who knew Marc Spector from a professional standpoint, this instant would be a sight to behold. In fact he wore such a good mask, no one ever thought he could ever be fearful of anything, not even the ancient being that he was now in service of. For years, he had been trained to void all fear and be the soldier that he is, yet, his mind was clouded with the chilling fog that was that nightmare.

Leave me here, go save yourself, my love.

He took a few deep breaths in to steady himself but the room kept spinning. He laid back down for a while, but each time he closed his eyes, all he saw was her. This was not the first time Marc had been thrown into this same nightmare, but today had to be the worst episode to date. 

“WHY?! WHO ARE YOU?” he screamed, throwing his blanket and pillows off the bed frustratedly. 

Suddenly, he got up and stumbled into the bathroom as he felt his stomach turn. He knelt onto his knees in front of the toilet and spewed the contents of his stomach at the thought of her milky white eyes. Tears started to spill from his eyes as he pushed himself away from the toilet until his back was flush against the cold bathroom wall. 

He swore he had never seen that woman in his life yet she looked so familiar to him. His heart yearned and ached for her. She was his greatest grief despite him not knowing who she was. He's got no say in how much he is in love with her and how scared he is to see her die over and over. He felt his heart turn naive and poisonous whenever he would think of her and he could never seem to find the right medicine to correct it.  

He decided that it would pass with time. She was, after all, just a dream trapped in his nightmares.

You sigh, happy with how your new apartment looked. Most of your stuff was still in boxes but you were happy enough to make it a problem for another day. Your job as a marine biologist at the aquarium doesn't start for another two weeks and till then, you'll have time to make this place your home. A knock sounded at the door, startling you slightly. You ran up to it and flung it open, to see a dark-haired, olive-skinned man staring back at you, holding a plate of cookies. 

You briefly thought you had seen him somewhere before but shook the feeling off pretty quickly. His mouth was hanging open slightly as a look of panic settled into his face for a brief second. You stretched out your hand for a handshake and he blinked at you before snapping out of it and taking your hand, shaking it. 

“Hi! I’m Y/N/LN, I just moved in here.” you say, smiling. 

“I’m Marc, Marc Spector, I’m your next door neighbor.” he introduces himself before you let him in. “Nice tattoo, by the way.”

You smile at the sun tattooed on your wrist and laugh. “There’s actually a really funny reason why I got it.”

Marc watched intently as you talked away, his heart thudding in his chest as he eyed the puddle of water at your feet and the slow drip of water from your hair, his eyes refusing to meet yours. 

Drip.

Drip.

Drip.
