Japanese dancer Yoshie Karahashi, 31, dances on Mayor Square in Madrid. Yoshie has just completed a study of the history of flamenco and points to similarities with Japanese dance forms such as bon-odori and odorinenbutsu. She said that "Spanish culture is very different from that of Japan, but they are so far apart it adds to the mystery. And so, two hours a day, five days a week, this is my life."

The 2004 cast recording for the Warsaw non-replica of CATS. As with most cast recordings, this one is highlights of the show.
There are a few photos of the rehearsals for the production in the booklet, along with cast and creative team credits.
I admittedly have not given this a listen yet, but it is great that a production like Warsaw had the opportunity to release a cast recording, especially it being a non-replica.
Now if I could only find the Versione Italiana CD easily.

Ooh spotted me a bit of Tuggoffelees in Zurich 1991/92 👀
So I don't tend to watch Growltiger parts (I just skip over them except the very first little bit because Misto antics), as I'm not really into the whole racist thing, and want to skip it. Tonight, however, I watched several Growltiger versions (e.g. original Vienna, OBC, early '90s Mexico, 2004 Madrid) to see if others had a Tugger and Misto who literally did a little partner dance (with twirl!) outside of Zurich 1991-92, and well, let's just say I came up empty-handed, despite diving deep into those aforementioned bootlegs.
So here's some tasty Tuggoffelees morsels, courtesy of Zurich 1991-92, with Lindsay Chambers as Misto and Brian Carmack as Tugger.

There is no heterosexual explanation for this and I love it.
(Now all I can think of is that one photo of Tugger sitting in Mungojerrie's lap and how very gay that is too.)

how many versions of cats were released on cd? I have the obc and olc versions so I was wondering if you knew what other versions there were, and if possible where to find them :D many thanks!
Hello Anon,
There are eighteen cast recordings:
Original London 1981 (both 2CD full recording and 1CD highlights)
Original Broadway 1982 (both 2CD full recording and 1CD highlights)
Vienna 1983 (1CD highlights)
Budapest 1984 (1CD highlights)*
Australia (Sydney) 1985 (2CD full recording)
Japan (Osaka) 1985 (2CD full recording)
Hamburg 1986 (2CD full recording)
Amsterdam 1987 (1CD highlights)
Paris 1989 (2CD full recording)
Japan (Nagoya) 1989 (2CD full recording)
Mexico 1991 (1CD highlights)
Warsaw 2004 (1CD highlights)*
Prague 2004 (1CD highlights)*
Dutch Tour 2006 (1CD highlights)
Italian Tour 2009 (1CD highlights)*
Japan (Tokyo) 2019 (2CD full recording)
2019 Movie (1CD highlights)
Vienna Revival 2021 (2CD full recording)
*Non-replica production, if that matters
In addition, there are a number of promo CDs that include a handful of tracks from the casts at the time of release:
Hamburg 1996 (3 track promo, assuming audio taken from 1986 cast recording)
Japan (Tokyo) 1996 (3 track promo)
CATS 1998 Elaine Paige (3 track promo; 'Memory' included, and two other non-CATS songs)
Japan (Osaka) 2001 (4 track promo)
Madrid 2003 (1 track 'Memory' promo)
Moscow 2005 (8 track promo?, two versions; both have 4 instrumental tracks)
Dutch Tour 2006 (3 track promo, audio from 2006 cast recording)
German Tent Tour 2011 (3 track promo)
Of everything listed above, the only ones I do not own are the Madrid 2003 'Memory' promo, Prague 2004 cast recording (a very rare CD that was scrapped before moving to production, only test/promo copies exist), and Moscow 2005 (another very rare promo release, only found with the press packages). Who knows if I can ever get my hands on them.
In terms of where to find them, the OLC, OBC, and Vienna 1983 are still being produced today and can be easily found new online, through Amazon or eBay (or better yet, in-person at your local music store!), and so is the Budapest 1984 CD as well (at least from what I can tell, it is always readily available brand new from Hungary). The 1989 and 2019 Japanese cast recordings are also still readily available brand new from Japan through the Shiki webstore. The 2019 movie highlights is also very easy to find, considering it just was released. The Vienna 2021 recording is still available from the label's website (at 45% right now!), but they only ship within Europe.
All the others can be found second-hand to varying degrees of ease online (i.e., eBay). The 1980s cast recordings are not too difficult, with Hamburg being fairly easily found, but as you start moving into lesser known (and shorter running) productions, it becomes more difficult to find them. Some are extremely uncommon, and I purchased the only copy I have even seen go for sale throughout the years, and I am still waiting for the chance to get the few I do not have.
Happy hunting to you, Anon!

I love the music of the night, but I cannot stand the mannequin part towards the end. Which versions of MOTN do not have that part?
How about I just describe the scene for each production and you can decide if you like it or not!
Original and modified productions: There is a Mirror Bride. She is revealed by the Phantom and when Christine approaches her, she pops out / drops forward, frightening Christine and causing her to faint.
Budapest non-replica: There is not only a Mirror Bride but a Mirror Groom dressed as the Phantom! Mirror Bride and Groom are revealed and then kiss, causing Christine to faint for the second time in that scene (the first was after hitting the high note at the end of the title song - girl's having quite a night).
2004 movie: There is a Mirror Bride. Despite just standing there, Christine nevertheless faints and is carried off by the Phantom.
Warsaw/Bialystok non-replica: There is a Mirror Bride here. It does not move but just spins into view (and quite quickly too), at which Christine faints (very gracefully) and is lowered to the floor.
25th anniversary concert: No Mirror Bride, but Christine still faints when the pressure of the Phantom's hand on her arm cuts off the blood supply to her brain, apparently.
Restaged tours: No Mirror Bride, but there is a blindfold that fans take just as much umbrage with. Anyway, Christine does not even faint in this version, but is carried off to bed by the Phantom before quite trustingly going to sleep.
Prague non-replica: A Mirror Bride is revealed at the end of the song. It does the Robot which then causes Christine to faint.
Tartu/Tallin non-replica: No Mirror Bride here as far as I can see (despite being one of the few non-replicas to have an actual wedding dress for Christine), and from what I saw, Christine just waltzes off to the Phantom's bed for a nap on her own initiative.
Helsinki/Gothenburg non-replica: No Mirror Bride, the Phantom walks Christine over to his bed for a nap.
Original Bucharest/Oslo/Greece/Middle East and Eastern European tour non-replica: No Mirror Bride; instead the scene ends with Christine trying to unmask the Phantom and failing, then going to sleep on the hard rock floor.
Belgrade non-replica: No idea.
Sofia non-replica: No idea.
Kristianstad non-replica: The Mirror Bride not only moves, she has been fully upgraded to do a whole dance with Christine, after which Christine collapses, either from the shock or from sheer exertion.
Sydney Harbour non-replica: I wish I knew; Christine seems to get shocked by something in the mirror, but I couldn't see what.
Italian Tour/Madrid non-replica: No Mirror Bride, Christine just faints in the Phantom's arms.
Bucharest revival non-replica: No idea.
Love Never Dies: Not present in the Australian version that has become the basis for most other productions. However, the original London production did feature a Christine doll in the opening scene. I can only presume it is an upgrade of the original Mirror Bride, hauled all the way from Paris to Coney Island so that the Phantom can play with her before locking her in his penis cage so that he can plot how to woo Christine atop a vagina balcony after she disembarks from Pier 69.
