This is a commission for Gigawolf a while back he asked me to draw his Kobold Madorin, and this time around he asked me to draw Madorin's sister, Madora. This was a very fun piece to draw, because I was told she was a warlock and I wanted to incorporate it in the piece. It was very fun to do the magic effect, and I am quite happy with how it came out! Do you say "bi people exist, but remus isn't one of them" only because you hate remadora or do you really think he wouldn't fit with any female character at all? And if, why is that?

So @lizlemonbennet had a really good explanation of this that I need her to dig up for you (a quick search of her blog didn't turn up what I wanted), but essentially if you were someone reading the books in the '90s/'00s as they were coming out, Remus was heavily coded as a gay man. And then to have HBP/DH give us whiplash where he all of a sudden was heterosexual (because we know that JKR doesn't know bi people exist and never intended for anyone to read him as anyone but heterosexual, lol joke's on her)....nah. Sorry, JKR. I'm not buying your sudden bullshit that he's interested in women.

However, sometimes I'll post about him and an older woman for the bit, like Madam Rosmerta being the one to take his virginity or Poppy giving him a handjob after a full moon while his hands are all bandaged, lol. The more taboo, the better! Besides, he might have experimented a bit before realizing his sexuality.

But yes I loathe particular ship so much it literally makes me see red, haha. I can't say that about too many ships, tbh! It's quite an accomplishment JKR pulled off.

Listen, I really love Tonks, she has all of my respect but THE JOY I get from fics where Wolfstar is raising teddy (or teddy and harry together) I just MELT. I love them so so so much, they are just... so perfect. Really one of my favorite things to read.

It's ridiculus how much I love Teddy considering I really don't like remadora as a couple lol but I do love all the characters involved individualy 😌

if theres one thing that bonus pottermore r*madora scene did to r's character it's that it proves that r is a jealous btch. sure joan may have put it like he was jealous of s in a toxic masculinity 'he always gets the women' way (let's not get into the fact that he's portrayed to be jealous over tonks potentially liking her literal cousin). but r canonically being a jealous person unlocks so much potential for me as a jealousy trope enjoyer

there’s stuff i sorta wanna explore for mei’s backstory but idk if i’ll ever be comfortable sharing it on here bc 1. it’s dead dove do not eat content, 2. Mei was originally created for lewding and nothing more so it feels a bit bad i guess, and 3. i have this weird............. thing????? about giving characters like backstory trauma (i say this as Aias grew up Fucked Up and Cessair ate his beloved)

but like even with Aias I was hesitant to say anything about his background and I always make sure to like tie his whole Cup business in with conceptual themes rather than his backstory because I don’t want it to be like............ oh he has a fear of being too much stemming from a fear of rejection because the people he wanted to accept him tried to kill him and even the people he was raised by considered him “outcast” because like. yeah those are tangible reasons for why he might be the way he is but also. it kinda sucks and i think he’d be the way he is even without that. and like it’s easy to extrapolate “he wants to grant peoples’ wishes so they don’t toss him aside, so he can be useful” but it’s not. that. and even if he was tossed aside, he’d shrug and move on and not cling or be sad because that’s the nature of a grail.

in any case that’s all to say sometimes i like when characters are just Fucked Up. and would be Fucked Up with or without trauma. but sometimes I also wanna give them more fleshed out backstories but i also groan thinking “oh people are gonna think that theyre like this because of [backstory event]” and it’s like while that did probably contribute. idk man it’s not that deep i just wanted a fucked up dude

In honor of @arliedraws getting on the Starking train, I need to make sure everyone has read @greyeyedmonster-18 's wonderful fic: postcard from paris. Yes, it's about Remus/James getting together, but Sirius/Kingsley absolutely steals the whole damn show. They're wonderful.

I also want to highlight this fic where Kingsley raises Harry: Don't Forget the Dog.

Also, holy shit, this incredible Sirius/Kingsley fic from 2011 lives rent-free in my brain: To Thine Own Self Be True.

I'm also throwing out a free prompt to the masses: I have long wanted to read a fic where Sirius and Kingsley were together during the First War, and then obviously Sirius going to prison separated them, and then Kingsley is tasked with being in charge of the hunt for his ex-fiancé when Sirius breaks out of prison. The DELICIOUSNESS of that angst, omg. Especially if Kingsley doesn't find out Sirius is actually innocent until OOTP, and they have their reunion at Grimmauld. I need someone (not me) to write it.

thoughts on the pottermore remus lupin write up?

As a rule, I consider Pottermore to be a sort of grey area of "sub"-canon. I see it as being on par with headcanon, so I take it all with a grain of salt. I pick and choose bits of Pottermore to incorporate into my own HCs.

I do appreciate the way pottermore expanded on Remus' family life, and I especially love the background that includes Lyall being prepared to fend off Albus Dumbledore to protect his son. I'm a sucker for the HC that Remus had good, loving parents. The rest of his life is so rife with suffering and pain, so it's just nice to give Remus something happy to hold onto. I don't mind when Remus doesn't always have great parents in fics, though, because it's not something that was ever explicitly stated in canon. I just hate when folks in this fandom go around repeating the mainstream fanon "Remus was an orphan" or "Remus had shitty parents" as if it is undisputed canon.

I also really like the background on how Lyall and Hope met and the way it ties the whole Lupin family together with Boggarts being the common thread. Lyall saved Hope from a Boggart, and they had a Boggart wedding cake topper! What a cute and quirky family! And then Remus goes on to teach DADA and his first lesson is, you guessed it, BOGGARTS! And then he taught James Potter's son how to defend against Boggarts! I love it so much, the link between Boggarts and fear and Remus' Lycanthropy and the fear/cowardice that burdens Remus as a character and—

I'm going to write a detailed analysis on this someday because I just find it so fascinating.

I'm less fond of the way pottermore retconned R*madora, and the comment that Remus made about how "Sirius got all the women", not simply because I'm not a fan of that ship but also because it willfully goes against the already-established canon trait that Sirius was not interested in girls/dating and paid them little attention. I prefer to read it as Remus feeling jealous/envious of Sirius, of the way he never even had to make an effort because he was just so effortlessly handsome and charming, while Remus felt this immense pressure to be good enough and had to work twice as just to be liked and respected (while also feeling unworthy of these things due to his Lycanthropy).

So yeah, all in all, I consider Pottermore to be above fanon, but not necessarily above well-thought-out and nuanced headcanon.
