What are some stereotypes (of any kind) or sexist tropes HotD perpetuated?

Ahm well I think this whole "women against men" was supposed to be subversive but failed in the execution? The wicked stepmother dynamic can be a sexist trope but so is the whole "level-headed calm peaceful agreeable women trying to keep irrational and violent men in check" lmao. It's bordering on biological essentialism and I don't think that was the intention here? Sadly Tumblr dot com university really likes that narrative because the standard is way too low. What they don't get is that if you force a subversive, "progressive" narrative that is antithetical to the premise of the source material you're adapting, you basically always end up with some kind of reverse stereotype. And that is because you prioritise subversion instead of treating your characters as individuals with feelings and motivations that have an internal logic that makes sense. A stereotype is simply some kind of principle that an author/creator wants to fit all their characters into. Well, subversion operates in the same way, it is basically an antithetical principle, but a principle nonetheless. The whole point of fiction however is to see living breathing individuals act in a way that makes sense, and that should be the priority. Yes in theory it would be cool to show two main female rivals in love with each other, that's sth we rarely see in fiction. That doesn't mean that in the story that you have, these two particular characters with their particular arcs and their particular motivations can plausibly be motivated by their love for each other in a way that feels organic and that makes sense, which is what fiction is all about. Having a good, entertaining story should be the endgoal of storytelling, not subversion. If not, you have comedy gold moments like Rhaenyra telling Alicent "there has been a mistake" as if the waiter messed up her order.

So yeah the writers in their effort to subvert a perceived "misogynistic" narrative ended up with the reverse stereotype of two madonnas against mean testosterone packed boyz. Not Great imo.

Well I’ve been roasted for this before but my controversial crush is Madonna circa the “4 minutes” music video. I know she’s insane etc but like the sheer force of personality, her athleticism, her insane psychosexual relationship with fame culture…. And to be clear I very much mean Madonna specifically after the age of forty five.

idk something about a woman being tough and fighting her clone and dancing around in a wet tank top while sweaty... as for young madonna, this music video is so raunchy but the women cross dressing in it are hot. im just sad they didnt let them partake in lesbiainism and instead had those cross dressing women kiss cross dressing men -_-

anyways i wouldn't roast you. madonna is hot esp in her older age. her muscles and the dances she does... i remember hung up being exciting to me as a child... shes just got sth about her thats hot so i cannot judge. also i would never pass on madonna even tho shes not rly my type bc again. hot older woman

music thoughts kinda night i guess, but my 2 madonna songs i like are like a prayer and love profusion. and really like a prayer is more about the idea of it then the song itself, and maybe like a niche reading of it (i don't rly know madonna lore, but i kinda got stuck w a very sexual interpretation of like a prayer)

love profusion though is so odd and i like it a lot. a sinister and unhappy love song, but not in the sense of romantic pain. the production is cold and melancholy, the lyrics are kinda disjointed and weird, when she says "only you make me feel good" it doesn't feel true to me lol. the "i got you under my skin" part doesn't make it sound like a good thing. i feel like if i didn't like the song so much i'd just say that the lyrics are bad, they sound bad and make no sense. love saying that kinda thing abt lyrics. but in the context of the song it feels like just saying words bc you're groping for sth inexpressible, maybe so painful you're afraid to acknowledge let alone say it ("the world is bad.. and this relationship might be as well, what if there can be nothing good at all?"). in the even wider context ofc of this (just looked it up) being a sincere love song for her husband on her embarrassing earnest social critique album it becomes very goofy again. but it just sounds so good to me.

just now i'm listening to it for the maybe 8th time in a row (and i'm not an on repeat listener) and i passed from feeling sad through a big cry to being mostly ok, i'd really like one of those infinitely looping 10h edits

Personally, my take on Sonic-verse vessels for the duo would be Sonic (for Bonnie) and Madonna (Sonic's human girlfriend from the original concept of the first game) for Giles

Madonna is the owner of the Sundown, the hottest place in Sunset City for live music and other performances. She also frequently sings there, and is very popular with the crowds. She’s known as the city’s “Dusk Treasure”, since she only performs at night.

Madonna scouts out smaller artists just getting started and helps them get an audience. She’s helped many well-known stars get to where they are now, but she never asks for any credit. 

Madonna met Sonic when he was much younger. Robotnik had attacked Sunset City, and he ran into her after saving the town. Madonna offered him a free ticket to that night’s show to express her gratitude for his work. He tried to turn her down but she insisted.

Sonic was amazed by Madonna’s performance and kept coming back to see her shows every time he could. That night he also met the Sunset City Sweethearts. (x)

Madonna is a lesbian and donates a percentage of the money she makes from the Sundown to charities helping LGBT youth. Madonna is one of the few adult gay people that Sonic knows, and he often comes to her for help and/or advice. 

Madonna frequently collaborates with another popular artist in Sunset City, Blush the Fennec Fox. (x)
