the language of the heart
a speculative analysis of fontaine's possible foreshadowing
Tumblr media
the story of madam ping and guizhong is inspired on a story about a culturally significant figure in china: Bo Ya, a musician whose compositions still hold importance to this day, who established a friendship (or so will say the historians) with a wood cutter called Zhong Ziqi based on their shared enjoyment of Bo Ya's music.
when Zhong Ziqi dies, Bo Ya plays a last song at his grave and destroys his instrument, as he considered there was no point in continuing to play if there was no one left to understand it.
the importance of the story relies on the following:
Bo Ya was a guqin player, this instrument is very important in ancient chinese society (and modern i suppose) and confucian philosophy, as it is considered a means to understand the self. the guqin player's audience is nobody but the player themselves, since it aims to be a reflection of their soul/mind. guqin players only compose to express their inner world and philosophy
therefore, the fact Zhong Ziqi (who didnt even have musical formation) was able to understand what the songs Bo Ya played were about meant he naturally understood Bo Ya's soul/mind, they shared a language that only their hearts knew
Bo Ya was inspired by the sounds of nature, so this connection felt all the more meaningful
authenticity, language, and the understanding of the self might be the next step in genshin's narrative that we will explore in fontaine

To those who need to hear it
ZHONGLI AND GUIZHONG WERE NEVER A THING, JESUS CHRIST ON A STICK.
Sure, they formed the Guili Assembly together...with a third god, actually. Guizhong was kind and highly intelligent. Morax was extremely powerful and basically a war god. Morax was also not fuckin' smart. Morax leading a nation on his own? Uh-uh, not gonna happen. Remember, like, ~2000 years after Guizhong died, Venti basically said Morax was a, "brutish, blundering bafoon." And that's millennia after she died. That's like asking a stereotypical jock from a 90's TV show to run student counsel. Shit's gonna crash and burn almost immediately.
Guizhong, like I said, was extremely intelligent. But she was not much of a fighter. Alone, she probably wouldn't have stood a chance against the monsters, demons and other gods of the time that would try to take her land. Forming an alliance with Morax was a big brain play. The brawn to her brains. If anything, she was out of his league lmao And then she died in a battle... 3700 years ago. She's been dead almost longer than Xiao has been alive, I believe. It will always hurt to lose a friend, especially when you live as long as Zhongli and remember practically everything that has happened in your extremely long life.
People seem to forget that men and women can be really close,,,,and just be,,,,,friends. Foreign concept, I know
I'm not saying to not ship them, obviously no one has the right to say that and everyone should have their fun. Just,,,remember it's not canon. No need to hate on Guizhong lmfao Besides, she's dead. Dead as hell. What shoes she got on in her coffin?
If anything, it was Guizhong and Madam Ping ffs

This year's lantern rite talks about family. Ga Ming and his father has settled their differences through communication, somehow I also understand and see myself in Ga Ming when I was in his age, every time I'm having a dispute with my parents about plans and goals in life, I often walk away feeling mad and doesn't listen to what they say, to me its all the same, they don't understand and feel like they are always right. Somehow, as I grew older I often listen to their thoughts and understand what they mean, after all most of the parents wants what is best for their child, and so parents has also to listen to their children, it is always a two way communication to understand each other's perspective. In Ga Ming's quest, it shows that his father learn a thing or two from talking to someone , its better to have a second opinion and learn from the conversation, this way, it broadens the mind and be more open minded and understanding.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His talk with Zhongli opens his mind in understanding his child, being protective of your child and look out for their future is natural for a parent, however that doesn't mean you hold them from their passion and dream just because you feel and think that it is not something that can provide them with their basic needs, such as Ga Ming's passion of wushu dance, Yip Tak thought that dancing will never earn huge some of mora and Ga Ming might find hard to survive a day. In which case, Zhongli explains to him about kites and about someone's dream and goals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A good example, is Miss Xianyun's parenting, she is giving her disciples to choose the path they want to go and guide them if they lost , protect them and understand them. On her story quest, you can see how cloud retainer takes care of her disciple giving them the freedom to make decision and understand them, even though there are some decisions from her disciples she does not agree but she supports them. In this way, it helps the child grow, know which path to choose and more importantly, they feel valued and respect their master in return, for Xianyun respects their decision all the time.
I think many players resonate about GaMing's journey and his passion, most of the asian households usually influence their child with the career path to choose , its because most parents thought that a career that is in demand, good pay and with achievement, can give their child a sense of security and income, will help them sufficiently provide their needs and wants. Because parents always look out for their child's future, to have a stable job and can provide themselves, to them, when they no longer in this world, it is a great relief for a parent to see their children that has a job that can provide any needs/wants, because they are having a stable job.

I saw the Genshin/Naruto crossover and I'm losing it over the shenanigans because okay, picture the adepti are there too. I could picture Xianyun and Ping just freakin' stealing kids left and right. They're both acting like the other one is having a problem with their hoard of feral ninja children and then Moon Carver and Mountain Shaper are having like a gay old time having a vacation but their peaceful times keep being interrupted by Ping and Cloud Retainer (and they only act grumpy but it is heartening seeing their old friends so happy even if it does mean their mountains will likely be bustling with children once they get home.) Zhongli is like vaguely aware but he's got his hands full with his own business so he's just like "it's fine :)"
Crying actually I think this is my first fic related ask ever I'm putting it up on my wall to frame
NO BUT I LOVE THAT?? They're both creating their own little found family armies of deadly children. They mean well 100% but to outsiders looking in (aka village officials) it kind of looks like they're starting some sort of army.
Xiao pops in with Gaara and Shukaku like "look what I found" and both Ping and Cloud Retainer are making grabby hands at them like "ohoho hand them to me I will make sure they are well taken care of :)" But Xiao goes "fuck off this one is mine" and teleports away, deciding to ask someone else for parenting advice
In his travels for whatever reason he had run into Kakashi, one of possibly the worst possibly people he could ask for parenting advice for several reasons. But for whatever idea he's under the impression he makes for a ""good father"" for team 7 (much to Kakashi's distress) so he's just appearing in Kakashi's appartment out of nowhere to demand parenting advice.
And Kakashi is like: ok, the strange rogue ninja I ran into months ago on a mission broke into my home. But he's not . . . Hostile?
And so he plays along
The conversation finally ends with Xiao nodding and thanking him for his advice, maybe saying something vague about coming back later if he needs more to which Kakashi just goes "Please don't."
Then he drops Gaara's name (Gaara, who's kidnapping and status of jinchuriki and very messy kidnapping a week ago now has already leaked to the public) and Kakashi record scratches but Xiao is already gone and FUCK did he just help the guy who kidnapped suna'a tailed beast oh god
Xiao, Madam Ping and Cloud Retainer end up in a little race to see who can collect the most jinchuriki and their bijuu the fastest. They are all child shaped to them, even the adults. No one is safe (tho ofc they only take those willing to go with them, this is still an adoption game even if it's. Very enthusiastic.)
Xiao doesn't want any other jinchuriki kids tho, Gaara and Shukaku are his favorite the others can fight over whoever else there is. He'll still find them and bring them over to the others but he's not really a family man and 2 are more than enough
Zhongli is watching all of this just "I'm glad they're all having fun :)" before turning back around and tricking more people into signing magically soul binding contracts they intend to betray but will never be able to

I’m sorry, “the one attuned to my soul”??
There’s being gay, and then there’s whatever Guizhong and Madam Ping have got going on.
…actually, after further consideration, Guizhong may have just had an adepti harem.
