Hablar de Phil Tippett es hablar de una leyenda de la historia del cine; el famoso animador, de stop-motion, ha trabajado en películas como “Empire strikes back”, “Robocop” o “Starship Troopers” y tiempo después nos trajo la que podría ser su obra maestra: “Mad God”, una verdadera locura audiovisual cuya realización tomó treinta años y todo el esfuerzo de su creador para darle vida a un mundo roto y desangelado donde nosotros como espectadores seremos testigos de una odisea/viaje lisérgico pocas veces visto en una pantalla de cine.

Sin revelar nada importante, la trama de “Mad God” sigue a un personaje conocido como The Assassin por un mundo tecno-orgánico habitado por criaturas extrañas, bizarras, atemorizantes y sombrías con un propósito desconocido. En ese sentido la película se convierte en una experiencia enteramente visual debido a la carencia de diálogos en la cual somos unos observadores en este viaje a través de paisajes terroríficos, mecánicos y surreales donde las pesadillas más profundas de los seres humanos se vuelven realidad, teniendo un control total sobre la tierra.

El stop-motion de la cinta (combinado con personajes reales y otras técnicas animadas) es extraordinario: es difícil ver algo a esta escala, con ese nivel de detalle y pasión, en la industria que domina el cine hoy en día. Cada marioneta, decorado y entorno muestra una complejidad inmensa y un cuidado minucioso en su elaboración, lo cual hace más disfrutable el verlas en movimiento a lo largo de los ochenta y tres minutos de duración de la película.

Por otro lado, “Mad God” es un milagro cinematográfico y podríamos hablar de una de esas poquísimas producciones allá afuera a las que podemos catalogar cien por ciento cine de autor: Phil Tippett escribió la historia, creó con sus propias marionetas y animo cada fotograma.

I watched Mad God yesterday. It's a mixed media stop motion horror movie. It is WET. Mud, cum, blood, shit, filth. Disgusting. If you stop paying attention for two seconds you will lose the plot. Because there is a plot. I think watching this movie high would kill you

im watching Mad God [2021] and holy SHIT. this movie is visually S T U N N I N G. i can't believe its taken me this long to watch it. i absolutely looooove stop-motion animation, AND silent films. it's both and its absolutely brutal so far. so much work and set dressing must have gone into this movie.. it took them 30 years to release it, and i totally understand why. its a post-apocalyptic film with some insane ideas. the fact that they can create a film like this that tells a story with only gibberish as dialogue gives me hope for the film industry. its got a lot of commentary about human cruelty. i love it so far and i'm only 1/3 of the way through. god fuckin DAMN the sound design is INCREDIBLE.
