Yesterday I continued to finalise the set up for the exhibition of my current work. These photos show my piece Shadow of Covid. Which is a latticework of Covid 19 cells, made from household packaging used while in lockdown and machine stitched together, against different backgrounds to check and test its effectiveness. After deliberation , using a maquette to mock up the exhibition layout and discussion with people who have seen it in person or in photos I have decided that this would hang on one side of my piece - Looking Out. This allows the visitors to the exhibition to view the eyes of Looking Out to be viewed through the lattice work while simultaneously feeling that they are being viewed. Took a break from sewing plushies and finished sewing a skirt for Valentine's Day! I'm so excited to wear it!!! 😁 At first I went with the skirt B pattern but changed it to skirt A. It turned out much cuter! ❤ Kitty Snail kept me company and my sanity through this process. 😆😅 . The ruffles were a challenge for me and takes time and patience to line the bottom tier to the top tier. A part of workshop focused on the comparisons of the mechanisms and aesthetics of #machinestitching and #handstitching. All of our works are 100% #handstitched as we do not compromise quality for anything. And we take pride in being he only brand at the ultra luxury level in the entire country to 100% handstitch all of our products. This set of photos features the comparisons of the aesthetics only and not yet the mechanisms. With machine stitching, leathers are left with markings from the machine after stitching especially more heavily on the 100% natural Italian vegetable-tanned cowhide. These markings may not be as obvious on less natural leathers like embossed leathers with less natural elasticity. But this marking is never present on handstitched pieces. Also, the alignment of the threads are more refined, especially on the back side, on the handstitched pieces than those stitched with machine. Make sure you scroll to see all photos in this post. Met explained the main difference in the mechanisms of #handstitch and #machinestitch. The coiling of the top and bottom threads in machine stitching will unwind if there is a breakage in a thread. This is not true for handstitching; top and bottom threads pass each other in every hole therefore causing a strong hold and doesn’t unwind if there is a breakage in thread. We demonstrated the unwinding of the threads by cutting a thread on the both samples. The machine-stitched sample ripped apart right away due to the unwinding of the top and bottom threads. The sample stitched by hand never ripped apart. Hence, all #METTIQUE products, which are 100% handstitched are much more durable than other machine-stitched products.
